What ceiling to make in the hall. How to make a ceiling beautiful: material selection, surface preparation and leveling

  • 20.06.2020

The design of the ceiling in the hall attracts increased attention (as, indeed, in any other room). At the same time, the hall is the main room of an apartment or a private house. In the case of a poorly repaired plasterboard ceiling surface in the hall, it will not work to hide its flaws, since the lighting will always show them to everyone. The times when Russians were content with just clean, neatly whitewashed ceilings have already passed. In everyday life, the concept of "ceiling design in the hall" appeared.

From what materials can the ceilings be created in the hall? This is the paint that has replaced chalk whitewash today, as well as polystyrene panels for ceiling coverings, which are cheap and practical, but have low aesthetic qualities. And to give the ceiling "expressiveness" drywall (hl) is used, stretch ceiling and suspended ceilings for the hall.

The design of the ceilings in the hall coincides in style with the design of the hall itself. It is important to consider that the hall is the main part of the interior of the room, and the ceiling is the part of the hall that is constantly in sight. With the help of the right design actions with the ceiling, the hall can be divided into zones with different functionality and visually enlarged.

Suspended plasterboard ceilings are extremely common in Russian apartments today.

Plasterboard ceilings in the hall have a number of important advantages:

But plasterboard suspended ceilings in the hall also have disadvantages:

  • The false ceiling in the hall design "eats" at least 4 cm in height. In rooms where the ceiling is low, the use of drywall construction is hardly justified.
  • Drywall does not have moisture resistance (even green drywall is intended for use in bathrooms, but without direct contact with water). Flooding from above with a probability of 100% renders the material unusable. However, a flood is still a rare emergency.
  • To install a suspended plasterboard ceiling in the hall, it will take much more time than to install a stretch ceiling. In addition, there will also be much more dust and dirt.

Types of plasterboard ceilings

By design, they are divided into even (with one level) and complex (have many levels).

Plasterboard multi-level ceilings can be installed in halls with a height of at least 2.5 m (taking into account the size occupied by the frame). In rooms with a lower height, it is better to refuse them and install single-level ceilings. Or create ceilings of such a configuration that does not lead to a significant visual reduction in the area of the room, for example, when the 2nd level goes only along the perimeter and is used for installation.

But Ecophon sound-absorbing panels allow you to give the structure almost any curved shape, thus creating an original interior design. These panels are made from mineral soft fiberglass and are environmentally friendly. The downside of Ecophon soundproofing panels is their high cost. In addition, they are designed for large and high rooms, so they are not widely used in ordinary apartments. But Ecophon panels sometimes create the most interesting designs.

Modern ceiling design in the living room. Design Ideas - Video

The design of a modern living room must be perfect, as this room is considered the "face" of the house. Therefore, when designing it, great attention is paid not only to the decoration of walls and floors, but also to the ceiling, which is the main detail of any decor. Its correctly selected shape and color will make the living room stylish and cozy, fill the space with homely warmth and emphasize the beauty of the rest of the interior elements. To date, there are many options for finishing the ceiling using various building materials and designs, thanks to this it is easy to choose the right theme and give the room a complete look.

Types and designs

Ceiling design in the living room can be done different ways. Depending on the size and height of the room, both the application of a decorating layer directly on the base itself is used, as well as the installation of suspended compositions using drywall and canvases. Simple finishes include:

  • Whitewash. This method, although considered “old” and gradually losing its relevance, remains in demand among owners of apartments and houses, because whitewashing does not require special financial costs and done quickly. To carry it out, it is enough to apply a solution of chalk or lime to the ceiling using a spray gun. In order for the surface to acquire the desired shade, special dyes are added to the composition of the solution. The main disadvantage of whitewashing is the need for time-consuming cleaning of the premises after work and the thorough elimination of surface defects before starting the work process.

  • Painting. It is most often preferred during normal repairs in the hall. As a coating, water-dispersion and water-based paints different colors. Painting can be done with both expensive and cheap dyes. To make the ceiling beautiful, it is necessary not only to carefully prepare its base, but also to apply paint in several layers.

  • Wallpapering. It is characterized by the cleanliness of the work, allows you to hide small seams and cracks on the surface of the ceiling. The aesthetic appearance of such a finish lasts up to 5 years, then it is necessary to carry out restoration. For wallpapering, canvases are purchased from high-quality paper, consisting of several layers. Usually, vinyl-based wallpapers with a relief structure are chosen for these purposes, they are durable and are not afraid of wet cleaning.

  • Tile pasting. The products are decorative material various colors and size, made of polystyrene foam in the form of squares or rectangles. On the surface of the plates, original drawings and patterns can be additionally applied. Today, smooth, rough surfaces of the material can be found on sale; tiles with imitation wood and stucco decorations are also very popular. Such inexpensive and easy-to-care products can be painted with water-based paint.

modern ceilings in the living room are also decorated in the form complex structures, which are:

  • Mounted. Well suited for surfaces in which you need to hide various defects and placed communications. Suspended composition panels can have any shape, texture and color. At the same time, they are necessarily complemented by beautiful lighting, which allows you to create an unusual design.

  • From drywall. Such a finish requires experience and skill in the performance of work. Two-level ceilings, which are often made curvilinear, look original in the living room. They have excellent sound and heat insulation, reliably serve for many years.

But it is worth noting that the two-level frame is suitable only for high rooms. It is better not to install it in a hall with a low ceiling, because the height of the space will decrease by 15-20 cm. The elasticity of drywall allows it to accept different shape. Designers recommend creating from it not only simple structures, but also multi-level decorations with domes and arches. Plasterboard and stretch ceilings are originally combined, representing unusual options for design.

  • Cassette. They are installed on a prefabricated frame. The material has the form of thin plates of zinc and aluminum, on the front side of which a powder layer of multi-colored paint is applied. Making ceilings in this way, you can choose plates with a rough or smooth surface. They are quickly installed, easy to clean, allow you to hide ventilation systems, but are characterized by low sound insulation.

  • Mirrored. They are a kind of cassette ceilings, but they use decorative mirrors instead of metal plates. Such decorations help to visually increase the height of the hall and give the room volume. In addition, they are absolutely environmentally friendly and safe to use.

  • Hemmed. They are curved surfaces of complex shapes, which are made of a metal frame, drywall sheets and decorative panels. They can be mounted on the ceiling, the irregularities of which do not exceed 1-2 cm. If you plan to install wiring for communications and built-in lights, this ceiling model will not work.

  • Rack. Original look like in design wooden houses and urban apartments. Due to the fact that the slats are made in various colors, they can be used to decorate any style in the living room. An unusual option is the material covered with gold or silver, chrome rails also look great. To finish the ceiling in this way, choose a lath material with a glossy or matte surface.

  • Stretch. They have the appearance of a solid web, which is made from durable vinyl polymers. First, a frame of rails is mounted around the perimeter of the hall, and then the material is stretched. On such a soaring ceiling, you can apply an original pattern or pattern. The composition, as a rule, is performed from different colors and textures.

Finishing materials

The design of the ceiling in the living room is made out by various materials, the choice of which depends on it. design features. It is important to consider the correct placement of light sources and hide electrical wiring. At the same time, any type of decoration should be carried out with ecological products that would not only harmoniously fit into the overall interior of the room, but also meet the conditions safe operation. So, choosing a “flat” version of the ceiling for design, you will need wood, plaster, paint or wallpaper. As for multi-level structures, they can have a mirror, glossy or matte look, which is usually created using drywall, PVC panels and plastic boards.

Recently, it has also become very popular combined option ceiling, in which a suspended structure is made and decorated with wooden beams and stretch fabrics. The finishing touch in this decor are moldings and stucco.

For many, single-level ceilings may seem unpresentable and simple, but if you choose the right finish, you get a completely original picture. For example, a ceiling covered with ordinary wallpaper will look faded, but if you apply beautiful canvases based on interlining or fabrics, then its appearance will change.

Regardless of what type of ceiling will be chosen for the interior of the hall, it is necessary to use quality materials, it is desirable to give preference to natural products. Great attention should also be paid to their texture and color.

Design styles

The living room is a continuation of the overall design of the house. Therefore, in order to highlight it in an original way against the background of other rooms and fill it with an unusual atmosphere, it is recommended to apply a certain stylistic direction in the decoration of the ceiling. To date, there are many styles for decorating ceiling coverings, but the most important of them are:

  • Rococo. It is characterized by a perfectly flat surface in beige, blue or white. At the same time, the ceiling should smoothly pass into the walls. Frescoes or molding are often used as decorations, and they also try in every possible way to fill the background with a bronze and gold tint. The chandelier is usually placed in the center of the ceiling and is a huge element decorated with crystal balls and pendants.

  • Egyptian notes. They are characterized by relief painting with antique themes. The ceiling is made simple, its only decoration can be a multi-figured bas-relief or cornice. It is allowed to paint the surface with floral ornaments. The color scheme, as a rule, is dominated by blue, yellow, crimson and green.

  • Gothic. The ceiling is made in the form of ceilings from wooden beams or vaults. To properly decorate the decor, it is recommended to use only natural wood species. A beautiful example is the white background of the walls in the hall, complemented by a black ceiling.

  • Country. As close to nature as possible and does not tolerate excesses. For it, ceilings made of wooden beams are also used, from which unusual shapes are laid out. The color scheme is chosen spatial, and it is dominated by yellow, beige, brown and light chocolate.

  • Classicism. The walls are separated from the ceiling by beautiful cornices or friezes. Often the surface is decorated with gilded ornaments and stucco. Colors are chosen light, bright colors are completely excluded.

  • Renaissance. His hallmark is clarity and simplicity, so contrasting compositions are not allowed. As lighting, you can use both spotlights and modest chandeliers. The ceiling is installed at different levels, but in each of them there must be straight lines. The color scheme is selected depending on the general background of the living room.

  • Kitsch. It is a bright and exotic option for the ceiling. Provides for the use of various colors which may not be compatible with each other. For example, the base is made bright blue and framed with cornices decorated with sparkles or stars. Kitsch is often chosen for living rooms decorated with bay windows.

  • Eclecticism. An interesting direction that combines both Western and Eastern motifs. Such ceilings look unusual, combining modern, baroque and high-tech at the same time. In this case, the ceiling can be either monophonic or include separate colored inserts. An original addition to the design in this case will be a forged chandelier and embossed baguettes.

  • Classic characterized by a finish in which the ceilings always look individual and unique. Classic decor tends to be dominated by light and pastel shades. Structures can be single-level and stepped. Beautiful chandeliers are used as lighting and complement them with illumination from spotlights. Such ceilings look great, decorated with stretch fabrics, pasted over with wallpaper or covered with decorative plaster.

  • Modern. Suitable for home owners who love everything new and modern. In this finish, contrasting compositions, inserts from mirror surfaces and a photo print are welcome. For a living room in this direction, 3D ceilings are well suited, creating an unusual feeling of lightness and weightlessness.

Lighting

Traditionally, a large chandelier is placed in the center of the ceiling in living rooms, but this option is usually suitable for simple decor. As for complex and multi-level structures, it is necessary to use other more stylish methods of organizing lighting to illuminate them. For instance, good choice there will be spotlights that can be complemented by a large ceiling with an original design. The area of the room also plays a huge role in the choice of light sources. Ordinary chandeliers are suitable for small rooms, and living rooms with a low ceiling are best decorated with several recessed lamps and a floor lamp placed in the room.

Recently, homeowners prefer to make ceilings consisting of many levels. Such an architectural composition looks presentable, but if you do not take care of its illumination, the decor will be spoiled, especially if brown is chosen for the ceiling. To avoid this, it is recommended to install several types of lighting in the living room.

A good idea would be to use a backlight that allows you to highlight unusual details on the ceiling. It will be complemented in an original way stylish lamp from glass, at the same time, it is best to choose spotlights for the decoration of such a ceiling, they will originally shimmer with various shades and create a romantic atmosphere in the room. Overhead devices are also very popular, they are presented in various saturation and colors.

Before you design the ceiling in the living room, it is recommended that you first do it in good repair and expand the space. If this private house with high ceilings, its interior can be diversified with multi-level structures. In the setting of "Khrushchev", where the room is small and its area does not exceed 18 square meters. m, you will need to apply various design ideas and visually raise the space.

To make the ceiling stylish and unique, you must adhere to the following tips:

  • Choose for finishing natural materials. They are not only considered environmentally friendly, but also look great against the general background of the interior. Both wooden structures and products imitating stone will become suitable.

In this article you will find many interesting ideas ceiling designs with photos and descriptions. You will find out why drywall cannot be used everywhere, and how stretch ceilings will help you avoid a flood from your neighbors!

Deciding to start a renovation, you will have to choose the color palette of the room, choose the way to finish the walls, ceiling and floor, find the optimal combination of practicality, aesthetics and, of course, price. If you explore the possibilities of modern finishes, you can save the lion's share family budget, because everyone knows how unplanned rework can lead to huge, wasteful waste.

Choosing a ceiling design

Any redecorating starts from the ceiling, its completeness, design and construction largely depends on the whole. To date, there are a lot of options for finishing the ceiling. They are selected based on the preferences of the owners, the purpose of the premises and, of course, the cost. When the issue of savings is acute, classic budget options for finishing are chosen - painting and whitewashing, or with expanded polystyrene plates. Relatively inexpensive, but also more practical and aesthetic are suspended ceilings. And, of course, when the question of the repair price is not so acute, the choice may fall on elite stretch ceilings.

We will try to describe in detail each type of finish to help you choose the best option.

One of the most ancient, time-consuming and dirty methods, requiring a perfectly flat ceiling surface with neat joints of ceiling tiles. Everyone remembers how much whitewash has to be washed off the floor and furniture after painting or whitewashing the ceiling. In addition, it is quite difficult to achieve a perfect monochromatic surface without streaks using chalk mortar or ceiling paint.

On the other hand, painting and whitewashing has been and remains the most budgetary repair option. And one cannot but admit that a qualitatively reconstructed painted ceiling looks quite neat and aesthetically pleasing. Plus, at your discretion, you can tint White color other shades.

This is a less “dirty” and labor-intensive method than whitewashing, but just as inexpensive, especially along with suspension and tension systems. There are a lot of design options, from combinations of wallpapers of different patterns to painting them in any color.

If you use special ones for the ceiling (ideally, liquid wallpaper), they will retain their original appearance for a long time. It is not recommended to use them in the bathroom or in the kitchen. In addition, ceiling tiles are unlikely to smooth out irregularities in the ceiling, so the surface to be glued should be as even as possible.

Styrofoam board cladding

This finishing option is very similar to wallpapering, so we will not dwell on it for a long time. The only thing, unlike wallpaper, expanded polystyrene ceiling tiles are able to withstand moisture and smooth out small flaws in the ceiling surface.

Finishing with plastic panels

A good option for finishing the ceiling are PVC panels. They are durable, strong, have good sound insulation and are resistant to moisture and high temperatures. The latter allows them to be used with LED and halogen spotlights. PVC panels perfectly mask the irregularities of the ceiling, pipes and wiring. In general, this is a budget alternative to more expensive shelving and suspended ceilings.

Plasterboard ceilings

It's versatile and inexpensive false ceiling, which allows you to bring all kinds of design ideas to life, hide any surface defects, irregularities, lighting, electrical wiring, etc.

Perhaps the only disadvantage of drywall is its fear of moisture, so it is not suitable for a bathroom. Otherwise, drywall is an almost perfect finishing material.

Advantages:

  • Sheathing any, even untreated surface;
  • The ability to hide wiring, pipes, ceiling seams and other irregularities;
  • Obtaining an absolutely flat and smooth surface;
  • Creation of a multi-level ceiling;
  • Carrying out the built-in lighting system;
  • Excellent thermal insulation and the ability to maintain a microclimate in the room;
  • Safety;
  • Heat resistance and incombustibility;
  • Low cost compared to stretch ceilings.

Unlike previous finishing methods, you will have to tinker with the installation of drywall panels - install the frame, mount the plates, carry out the subsequent decorative finish. Depending on the unevenness of the ceiling and the volume of hidden wires and communications, you can lose 5-10 cm in height. On the other hand, these are minor disadvantages, because as a result you get a beautiful, inexpensive, perfectly flat ceiling of the design you like.

In addition to the aforementioned drywall ceilings, hemmed ceilings can be made from fibreboard (Fibreboard) and MDF. These are durable, safe, moisture-resistant finishing coatings, a huge variety of colors and textures.

MDF and fiberboard can imitate wood, tiles, raw brickwork or a natural stone. The surface of the plates is easily painted with enamel and oil paints, pasted over with a film, decorated with slats and other elements, thereby creating an imitation of beams. Such a hemmed ceiling will allow you to create an “expensive ceiling effect” and embody many interesting design solutions.

Dropped ceilings

The most popular type of ceilings in the middle price category. Suspended ceiling is a design when on a wooden or metal carcass various finishing materials are fixed. With it, you can easily hide all the flaws and irregularities of the ceiling, wiring and communications, you can install a climate ventilation system, install built-in lights.

Distinguish:

  • Cassette ceilings - durable, durable, moisture-resistant and fireproof steel or aluminum plates (cassettes), more often used in public spaces - restaurants, hotels, offices, medical facilities, etc.,
  • Armstrong ceilings - a budget option finishing, which is widely used, both for administrative premises and home rooms. These are easy-to-install, inexpensive, aesthetic plates made of pressed mineral fiber, which have thermal insulation, fire resistance and increased light reflectivity, which allows you to save a lot on lighting.
  • Slatted ceilings are a very durable, impact-resistant, moisture-resistant and fireproof metal ceiling. It does not need scrupulous care, does not rot, does not accumulate dirt and dust.
  • Mirrored ceilings - allow you to create a rich, spacious and stylish design with lots of light and depth of space.

The last type of ceilings is elite modern fashionable stretch ceilings. In addition to the fact that this type of design looks very expensive and stylish, it is also a rather practical way to finish the ceiling.

  • Stretch ceilings create an absolutely perfect surface, hide the asymmetrical shapes of the room, close all the irregularities and communications;
  • Stretch ceilings hold a lot of weight, in case you decide to flood the neighbors;
  • The material does not allow moisture to pass through, which allows it to be used in all rooms without exception.
  • A very wide variety of designs - from the choice of color or texture (matte, glossy or satin) to the application of photo printing, sparkles, jewelry and more.

Unfortunately, the installation of stretch ceilings will not do without minuses:

  • This is the most expensive type of finish;
  • They can only be installed by professionals using special equipment (gas gun);
  • The canvas is afraid mechanical damage, sharp objects, easily pierced.

Stretch ceilings are not installed in cold rooms without heating or with temperatures below +5, they lose their technological properties.

Choosing a ceiling design depending on the room

Now you know the features of each type of finish and can make a choice.

But remember that the choice of material for finishing the ceiling is highly dependent on the place. You can’t wallpaper the ceiling in the bathroom, and hope that in a month appearance the ceiling will remain in its original form. Most likely, yours will go streaked, if not peeled off at all.

In the living room

On the kitchen

- this is a place with constant evaporation, temperature changes and special requirements for hygiene, so the kitchen ceiling must be moisture resistant, fireproof, environmentally friendly and easy to clean. Whitewashing and painting the ceiling in the kitchen, as well as wallpapering, are long gone, due to their fragility. Divorces, stains quickly appear on such ceilings, they crumble, peel off, and due to the large accumulation of steam, they become an excellent breeding ground for fungi.

If there is a question of price, then it is better to use laminated polystyrene tiles or relatively inexpensive PVC panels.

For large irregularities best solutions will be gypsum, suspended or stretch ceilings.

To the bathroom

The requirements are the same as for the kitchen. Because of a large number fumes, the risk of accumulation of fungi and pathogenic bacteria, the need for regular cleaning of surfaces, plasterboard ceilings, ceilings pasted over with wallpaper or finished with chipboard and fiberboard panels without special impregnation are absolutely not suitable for the bathroom.

Few people can boast of a large bathroom area, so hanging rack and mirrored ceilings, which will expand the space, add more light and shine.

Plus, they are quite easy to care for, they are perfectly cleaned from streaks and plaque.

A more expensive alternative can be a stretch ceiling, which is also ideal for a bathroom.

Choosing a ceiling for the house

For Khrushchev

The small height of the ceilings in Khrushchev, unfortunately, is not a myth, but a harsh reality. Their maximum height is 2.40 m or even less if the floor was replaced and screeded in the apartment. Naturally, in such conditions it is quite difficult to install a suspended or stretch ceiling, which will steal from an already small height of 5-10 cm. But it is still possible if the real surface of the ceiling does not have too large transitions, and the ceiling can be installed with minimal loss of space .

For a modern new building

Unlike Khrushchev, choosing a ceiling for a new building is much easier. Here, the height of the ceilings is greater, and the quality is newer, so you can choose almost any type of finish. It should only be taken into account that within 2-3 years, the new building will shrink a little, which may affect the geometry of the premises. Therefore, finishing materials, especially for the ceiling, should be installed with some margin. All types of suspension and tension systems are ideal for new buildings.

For a private house

In a private house, the issue of thermal insulation is acute, therefore, the material of the ceiling should retain heat well in the house. Since the outer covering of the ceiling must also take into account the layer of insulation (from expanded clay, mineral wool or foam), it is best to use frame structures - suspended and stretch ceilings.

For suspended ceilings, first a frame is assembled for attaching an external ceiling (cassettes, drywall, etc.), and then a layer of insulation is laid in the space between the profiles. For stretch ceilings, on the contrary, they first create a frame of bars for insulation, lay it, and only then stretch the outer fabric.

The choice of a light source and the correct arrangement of light determines what kind of room you end up with - small and dark, large, but cold or warm and cozy.

Chandeliers and lamps

The classic lighting option is a chandelier in the center of the ceiling. Gives a lot of warm light, perfect for almost any type of interior, gives the room an exquisite comfort.

Remember the mass of the lamp! heavy chandelier not safe to mount lightweight drywall, it is better to mount it to the concrete base of the ceiling.

Unfortunately, this type of lighting is not very suitable for modern suspended and stretch ceilings, so recessed lighting is gradually replacing it.

Spotlights

  • They allow you to create the necessary lighting around the perimeter of the entire ceiling and make a certain pattern out of it, if provided by the designer;
  • Ease of installation of fixtures and replacement of light bulbs;
  • Safety. Spotlights do not heat the ceiling;
  • Rotary models allow you to change the direction of lighting as needed;
  • This is a relatively inexpensive way of lighting.

LED strips

A very non-standard and non-trivial approach to lighting rooms are LED strips. You can not only choose an unusual lighting color, but even create a real light show at home, thanks to dynamic light effects - smoothly changing colors, light music, waves, etc.

Modern trends in the design of ceilings

  1. Light neutral tones make the room more spacious, lighter, higher. If you decide to use patterns or bright colors, accentuate them in one small place so that the room does not become gaudy.
  2. Perfectly divide the space into zones allow multi-level ceilings. For example, a protruding section of the ceiling will perfectly focus on the bed in the bedroom.
  3. Glossy, mirrored and lacquered surface diffuses light, creating the effect of a 3-dimensional space.
  4. For a low room, a plain light plasterboard ceiling with LED strips located at the edges is ideal. Such an illusion will visually raise the ceiling.
  5. The ceiling, sheathed in wood or wood-like clapboard, in combination with light-colored furniture, gives the interior naturalness, richness and comfort.
  6. The glossy finish of the bathroom walls goes well with the matte ceiling.
  7. The eternal question of repair is to do it yourself or leave the work to professionals. In fact, many of the above methods for decorating the ceiling are not particularly difficult and may well be done independently. You can easily whitewash or paint the ceiling yourself, paste over it with wallpaper or styrofoam boards. With a certain skill and study of video tutorials, you can put a plasterboard or MDF panel on the frame.

    The only type of ceiling, the installation of which is recommended to be entrusted to specialists, is a stretch ceiling. Firstly, because at least a little practice is required to install it. Secondly, because the canvas is stretched using a special expensive gas gun, which is not advisable for you to buy for one repair.

    We offer several video tutorials on self-decoration ceilings, and you already decide how much these methods are within your power.

Whatever apartment you buy, no matter what project you build your cottage on, the hall will still remain the main room of your house, the place where you receive guests, triple family councils and just relax in the evenings near the TV screen. And in many ways, the comfort of your stay there will depend on the quality and type of ceiling finishes. And therefore the question: “What kind of ceiling to make in the hall?” will always be up to date.

Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately, there is no ready-made answer, and it cannot exist, given the wealth of building materials and technologies that exist on the modern market. And yet, some recommendations can be given, but for this you need to decide what types of ceiling finishes are generally used in the halls.

The simplest, but also the most reliable appearance ceiling finishes. It is used in absolutely all rooms, and the hall in this list is by no means an exception to the rule.
This element is characterized by its enormous labor costs and long deadlines. But as a result, the owner can get a completely monolithic product, without any inter-ceiling space, spending a minimum on materials and not stealing a single “extra” centimeter of apartment space.

Unfortunately, such a ceiling can only be made if the interfloor overlap is relatively even, when the height difference does not exceed 5 cm. Although it is rational to use this type of finish with a plaster cake thickness of not more than 3 cm.

IMPORTANT

When planning a monolithic ceiling in the hall, one should not forget that this is just a rough finish, which will subsequently require intermediate and finishing processing.

Another type of rough coating for the central room is. Unlike monolithic, this type of finish is not so laborious to manufacture, and it takes much less time to complete it, but it “steals” the height. When planning even a single-level plasterboard arch, you need to keep in mind that at least 8 cm from the lowest overlap point will have to be sacrificed for finishing. That's just a single-tier GKL ceiling in the hall is rarely done. The beauty of the gypsum system is its artistic potential, which allows you to create intricate multi-level ceiling figures. However, when planning such a beautiful one, you must always remember that there is a comfortable height for the hall, which, depending on the area of the room, is from 2.8 to 3.2 m. And there is also a minimum allowable one, which is set at around 2.3– 2.4 m from the floor.

But the stretch ceiling is already a full-fledged coating ready for use. The minimum possible distance to the rough floor is only a couple of centimeters. Installation time is several hours. At the moment, this is perhaps the most popular type of ceiling in the hall.

But since this finish provides for a finished finish, you need to think about color and texture even before buying the canvas itself. So, warm tones will suit cold, poorly lit rooms, while cold ones can add freshness to stuffy rooms facing south.

Not so long ago, it became possible to create from stretch fabrics without the use of plasterboard frames. But here again it is necessary to recall the above minimum allowable and comfortable distances from the floor to the ceiling. After all, any multi-level design steals space. In the case of stretch ceilings, this is at least 5 cm for each tier.

IMPORTANT

The very transition system between tiers for a PVC ceiling is not too cheap, and therefore, in the old fashioned way, the owners prefer to mount a combined ceiling.

Also, a beautiful ceiling for the hall can be mounted from metal rails. This finishing material is finishing construction aluminum from the aircraft and rocket industry. This system combines most of the advantages characteristic of gypsum boards and tension vaults:

  • The rack ceiling consumes minimal space (about 5 cm).
  • Allows you to get a ready-made finish.
  • Allows you to design multi-tiered structures.
  • Provides a wide range of possible textures and colors, allowing you to create any color of the ceiling in the hall.

Moreover:

  • It can be used in summer cottages where there is no regular heating.
  • It can be completely or partially dismantled at any time without damage to the structure.
  • It makes it possible to get a non-glossy, namely, this significantly visually raise low ceilings.

Cassette ceiling in the hall

This previously considered an office ceiling system was practically not used in the halls, and the point here was not in the large consumption of space (at least 15 cm from the lowest ceiling point), but in the low quality of the cassettes and their limited design potential. But with the appearance on the market of products from:

  • aluminum,
  • glass,
  • mirrors,
  • plastics

such systems were in no way inferior to any others, which means that they began to be actively used in residential premises, including halls.

The Grilyato lattice cassette is now especially popular; this effect cannot be achieved by any other type of ceiling finish.

IMPORTANT

It is most rational to use a suspended cassette ceiling in rooms with high and very high ceilings. With this finishing option, it is easy to lower the vault to a comfortable allowable mark.

The living room is the heart of any home, be it an apartment or a luxury cottage. It is here that all relatives and friends gather for a noisy festive feast. This is where you can enjoy family watching a movie or just sit with a book and a cup of coffee. But comfort and harmony in the hall cannot be created without careful study of every detail of the interior. The ceiling in the hall is an important part of the design, which will help make the room “finished” and beautiful.

Styles

The fashion for certain styles in the interior changes almost the same way as the fashion for beautiful clothes. Perhaps not with such lightning speed, but still fast enough. And in order to create the room of your dreams, you should know the most popular design solutions that are used during renovation. It is good if you are familiar with the basic interior styles that are most often found in modern apartments and residential buildings.

Modern styles

classic styles

Not suitable for modern or classic styles, there is also the so-called ethnic style. This use is in the interior of decorative elements and design techniques characteristic of various peoples, nationalities, and nationalities. For example, there are Egyptian style, African and others.

African style is characterized by environmental friendliness, minimalism, exoticism. In a living room of this format there will be many natural materials and colors: for example, a “skin” of a zebra or a cheetah can settle on the floor. Ceilings, as a rule, are harmoniously combined with the decor, they can be matte, fabric, wooden, sometimes they have complex geometry. The color scheme is usually represented by warm tones.

The ceiling is covered with chalk or lime.The oldest and most affordable way to decorate the ceiling. Easy to do on your own, and if base ceiling perfectly aligned, it looks very impressive. In addition, such a ceiling is environmentally friendly. Disadvantages: requires careful preparation of the ceiling surface, quickly loses its appearance, easily gets dirty, will not save property during flooding.

The ceiling is covered with water-based paint.Also one of the easiest, cheapest, available finishing methods. However, it looks cheap, makes the room cold. All the imperfections of the ceiling surface will be very noticeable even under a thick layer of paint. We do not recommend using this option in the living room.

A frame is mounted on the base ceiling, and a plasterboard structure is mounted on it, which requires spring finishing (plastering, painting).Much more expensive than simple whitewashing and painting, but it allows you to create interesting multi-level structures, conduct communications under them, invent various options lighting, not limited to the chandelier. Disadvantages: it is difficult to mount without knowing the installation technology of such a design, as well as the need for external decoration. Will not save things in case of flooding.

Metal cassettes are laid on the mounted frame.Such a ceiling looks great only in a high-tech interior, in others it will look cold and uncomfortable. More suitable for the kitchen. Mounting, like a plasterboard ceiling, is quite difficult, but still easier. Also, PVC panels should not be used for the living room - they will rather look in the corridor, bathroom, kitchen, but not in the living room. But wooden cassettes will be in harmony with certain types of interior.

Suspended plasterboard ceilings

Drywall, as one of the easiest materials to process, has long entered our apartments. With its help, they level the walls, equip door slopes and of course create ceiling structures. Drywall is a fairly large sheet with a thickness of 9.5 mm, a length of 1500 to 2500 mm and a width of 600 to 1200 mm, which include a special gypsum dough, which is located between the layers of cardboard. Hence the decoding of the name, which is not difficult to guess.

Drywall is of several types, which differ from each other by the presence different properties, for example, fire resistance or moisture resistance. And depending on this, and the price. For the installation of ceilings, the simplest drywall is usually used - standard or plasterboard. Why is this material so popular?

It has a lot of positive qualities:

  • well hides all the flaws of the ceiling surface and does not require its careful preparation;
  • allows you to carry out various communications inside yourself, including wiring for lighting installation;
  • can be painted and painted for every taste and color;
  • has good sound insulation;
  • allows you to create interesting designs.

The plasterboard ceiling also has disadvantages - this is a difficult installation (it is practically impossible to cope without an assistant), the possibility of cracks at the joints, the need for external finishing after completion of work, a loss of about 10 cm in height of the room.

Attention! Also, drywall is a fairly heavy material. Please note that when installing the ceiling 1 square meter structures will have a weight of at least 13 kg.

In a spacious living room, a two-level one will look very good. One level, lower, can be equipped with additional lighting. And put a chandelier in the center. Also, a single-level plasterboard ceiling can be very interesting to beat, including decorating a ceiling plinth suitable for the style of the interior, a lighting system or painting pictures.

Stretch ceiling

A stretch ceiling is a structure that is created from a thin fabric stretched between special profiles fixed to the walls. Now this type of finish is the most popular and widespread, because, thanks to the variety of applications, it can be used everywhere, including in the hall.

Stretch ceiling is fabric and PVC film. The first is created from a thin polyester thread impregnated with special polymers. And the second option is a thin PVC film.

On a note! Since the fabric fabric for stretch ceilings is produced in rolls up to 5 m wide, such coatings are usually mounted without seams, which is why they are called "seamless". But PVC ceilings in spacious rooms, they are more likely to have welded seams, since the usual width of rolls of film is from 1.5 to 3 m.

Also stretch ceilings are glossy and matte. PVC film can have absolutely any color - from pure to saturated. The fabric canvas is not so diverse in texture and color, but it “breathes” due to micropores and makes it very interesting to beat the lighting.

The advantages of stretch ceilings are obvious:

  • they are very beautiful and allow you to choose the most suitable option or look for a particular interior style;
  • the fabric ceiling can be painted by hand, and, like on a PVC canvas, any pattern can be applied using photo printing;
  • they will keep the property in case of flooding of the apartment from above;
  • allow you to hide communications, including wires when installing lighting;
  • lighting on such ceilings can be anything: you can install a chandelier or spotlights, as well as make or;
  • installation of a stretch ceiling structure is simpler, faster, easier than a plasterboard ceiling;
  • they are durable.

Stretch ceilings can also be made in the form of multi-level structures. But it is precisely due to the ease of installation that they are far ahead of plasterboard ceilings.

Lighting

An important aspect of creating beautiful ceiling in the living room is taking care of proper lighting. Not only does it need to be bright enough and adjustable, but it also needs to be installed nicely and in line with the overall style of the interior of the living room.

Lighting in modern hall must meet several requirements:

  • the presence of central lighting (chandeliers);
  • the presence of lamps or lighting;
  • clear zoning of the living room with lighting fixtures.

For lighting equipment, chandeliers, sconces, spotlights, LEDs are used. The last two types are often used to organize lighting.

On a note! LED Strip Light can become the main lighting "device". The fact is that using it, you can create a luminous ceiling. The tape is laid along the draft ceiling in rows, and then covered with a translucent film or cloth. And it turns out a stretch luminous ceiling.

In the case of the correct location of spotlights, in some cases they allow you to completely get rid of the central lighting device. The amount of light in this case will be regulated by the number of lights on.

In the living room, spotlights can be placed in a circle in the center of the room and along the perimeter, in two circles in the center, in semicircles at the corners of the room, and so on. The most important thing is not to overdo it with their number and follow the basic rules of symmetry. Chaotically located lamps are unlikely to look harmonious in the hall.

How to install spotlights on the ceiling

Note that their installation is possible only on suspended or suspended ceiling structures. Since now the leaders among finishing materials are stretch ceilings, we will find out how to install such lamps on them.

Step 1. Before starting work on installing the ceiling, draw an exact diagram of the entire structure and mark the places where the fixtures will be installed.

Step 2 Transfer the diagram to the ceiling and get ready to install the required number of fixtures.

You will need to attach fixtures for lighting fixtures to the ceiling. To do this, attaching these fasteners in the marked places (where the lamps will be), mark with a pencil the points where you need to make holes for the dowels. Drill holes and use dowels to fasten the fasteners to the ceiling. Make sure that all the bases for the lamps are on the same level.

Step 3 Now mount all the electrical wiring by connecting it to the network and checking for operability.

Step 4 Stretch the ceiling covering and proceed with the further installation of fixtures. The installation process is described in more detail in the article about.

Step 5 Locate (carefully feel for) the exact location of the fasteners. Take reinforcing thermal rings (they protect the canvas from tearing) and glue with special glue just under the fasteners.

Step 6 Stationery knife exactly on inner diameter glued ring, cut a hole for the lamp.

Step 7 Pull out the connected wire and install the decorative edging of the lamp.

Step 8 Plug in the light. Everything, you can turn on the light and admire the beautiful backlight.
