Frame from a profile for drywall: we sheathe walls, assemble partitions and structures. How to make a frame for drywall Mounting a frame from a metal profile on a wall

  • 27.06.2020

When working with drywall, you can follow two approaches. The first approach is associated with strict adherence to the professional technologies set out in the manufacturers' technological maps. The second approach is more “domestic” and is associated with the attitude to drywall constructions, as a designer “assembly as it will turn out”.

From the point of view of the finished product, both approaches have a right to exist. That is why there are a lot of pictures on the Internet with ridiculously assembled structures for plasterboard lining. In this article, let's see how to make a frame from metal profiles for drywall using professional manufacturers' technologies, in particular KNAUF.

Frame material made of metal profiles

What is the good of the manufactured material for drywall? Standard versatility. Whatever you plan to build, a partition, a ceiling, a niche, standard profiles are used everywhere (read about profiles and), standard drywall sheets, even standard self-tapping screws. The difference is only in size.

Therefore, for any drywall construction, the material from the following list is used (in parentheses, I showed the profile marking according to Euro standards).

Rack profile, marking PS (CW), an example in the photo.

Guide profile, marking PN (UW), an example in the photo.

Ceiling profile PP (CD), an example in the photo.

Profile guide ceiling PNP (UD), an example in the photo.

The frame itself is made according to the scheme indicated in the photo.

Option 3. Two-level frame on rods

A two-level frame on rods requires more profiles, but is more reliable. In this frame, the profiles are not cut, but mounted entirely one on top of the other, creating two levels of the frame. Profiles of two levels are fastened with a special fastening (two-level profile connector).

Frame for wall cladding

When sheathing the wall in a dry way, ceiling profiles PP 60x27 are used. They, with a step of 600 mm, are attached to the wall on direct suspensions. Step between hangers 1000 mm. Guide ceiling profiles PN 28x27 are attached along the perimeter of the facing frame.

Independent frame for closing walls

If, when sheathing a wall, it is not possible to fix the PP profiles to the wall, then a structure is made of guides and ceiling profiles not connected to the wall. However, it cannot be higher than 2600 mm.

Frame made of metal profiles for partition walls

A plasterboard partition is made on a frame of metal profiles or a wooden beam. In this article, we look at the frame on the profiles.

For the frame of a blank partition, rack profiles PS are used as vertical posts and guide profiles PN are used as a framing structure along the perimeter of the partition. Vertical racks are connected along the length with additional jumpers from PS profiles.

It is important to note . That all profiles in contact with walls and ceilings are glued with Dichtungsband type sealing tape.

Layout (scheme) of the partition frame

In the scheme of the frame of a blind partition, the most important parameter is the step between the vertical posts. It depends on the height of the room and the dimensions of the PS profiles used. For example, for single-layer (C111) and double-layer (C112) partitions, the following rules work:

1. The thickness of the partition is up to 75 mm. For vertical racks, PS 50 profiles are used. Guide profiles, respectively, PN 50.

  • At a height of 4 meters, step PS 50 - 400 mm;
  • At a height of 5 meters, the pitch of PS 50 is 300 mm.

2. The thickness of the partition is 100 mm. For vertical racks PS 75 profiles are used. Guide profiles, respectively, PN 75.

  • With a ceiling height of up to 3 meters, the step between the racks is 600 mm (along the axis of the rack);
  • At a height of 4 meters, step PS 75 - 400 mm;
  • At a height of 5 meters, the step of PS 75 is 300 mm.

3. The thickness of the partition is 125 mm. For vertical racks, PS 100 profiles are used. Guide profiles, respectively, PN 100.

  • With a ceiling height of up to 3 meters, the step between the racks is 600 mm (along the axis of the rack);
  • At a height of 4 meters, step PS 100 - 400 mm;
  • At a height of 5 meters, the pitch of PS 100 is 300 mm.

Important! According to technology, the height of metal rack profiles should be 10 mm less than the height of the room.

Option 2. Partition with a door

Door frames are placed together with the assembly of the partition frame. The place under the door is mounted like this.

Smooth walls and ceilings look good in any style of interior. best material sheets of pressed sawdust connected with gypsum are used for leveling. For convenient placement of lighting wires and other systems, a drywall frame is used. It allows you to mount a heater. A ventilated gap remains between the wall and the cladding, bringing dampness out.

What gives a frame from a metal profile when it is installed

It's time for internal works in my friend's house under construction. It all started with the question, why make a frame for drywall. Vadik and I walked around the future living room. The room is huge. The walls are uneven.

Requires installation of several various systems life support:

  • ceiling and spot light on the walls;
  • decorative lighting;
  • sockets and switches;
  • underfloor heating system;
  • fire alarm;
  • heating pipes;
  • ventilation.

Installation of support profiles

If necessary, a heater can be laid under the metal profile frame. I made a 3D layout of a room on a computer with pipes and wires placed. It turned out to be a daring modern loft with elements of brutal avant-garde. This definition was given by my friend, a supporter of strict hi-tech and a fan of the classical style.
The frame of the metal profile for drywall allows you to perfectly align the ceiling and walls. All corners are right angles. Installation of sheets and refinement to a state where you can paint or glue wallpaper is simple. All work is carried out quickly and easily done by hand. My friend, a scientist, far from building specialties, learned all the skills in the first room.

Varieties of profiles and purpose

Before buying a metal profile, it is necessary to calculate the required length of each standard size. To make it easier to understand the purpose and types, Vadik, after my explanations, made a table.

Profile for drywall

The frame for drywall is attached with self-tapping screws. TO concrete slabs dowels. The length of the guides is equal to the perimeter of the room. They hold the structure, serve as its basis. Rack metal profile is required the most. Its length is equal to the height of the walls. Installation is done every 60 centimeters. To this must be added corners, window and door openings, crossbars at the joints of the sheets. Do not forget about cutting.

Installation of a vertical frame, taking into account lamps, wiring and ventilation

The installation of the metal profile on the ceiling began with the determination of the gap between the ceiling and the drywall. It is necessary to take into account the space for wiring, ventilation and the type of fixtures. Horizontal lines were beaten off along the perimeter and a ceiling guide profile was attached to the walls. It will hold the frame of the future ceiling. The ends of the PP are inserted into it.
In a friend's living room, we made a multi-tiered ceiling. Therefore, everything was marked out and I began to mount the structure. For simple false ceiling parallel lines are marked at a distance of 60 centimeters. Markings are made on them and suspensions are attached in increments of 50 centimeters. The ends of the profile are inserted into the guides on the walls, and the drywall frame is mounted to the perforated strips of the planks. Each section is leveled. If there is no laser device, then the extreme rails are placed on the markings on the walls and the cords are pulled.
Having completed the installation of the profile, we made markings with Vadik for the location of lighting and other devices on the ceiling. Wired them up. We will navigate along them, sewing up the frame with drywall, and making holes in the right places. We installed the crossbars with the help of crabs in a checkerboard pattern.

Installation of a metal profile on the ceiling

We mount the metal profile on the walls

With the help of a level and a tape measure, we determined the size of the maximum protrusion and began to mark the perimeter for the wall sheathing. Immediately marked the location of sockets and switches. They beat off the lines on the floor with a cord and began to fasten the guide profile with self-tapping screws. The lower end of the metal beams will be inserted into it, it is the base for mounting the frame.
We marked the walls for the metal profile after 60 cm. The width of the drywall sheet is standard and is 120 cm. It should be attached at the edges and in the center. After that, with a step of half a meter, we installed the suspensions. Vadik got used to it and easily drove the self-tapping screws into brick walls. He confidently did the installation himself.

Frame made of metal profiles

Racks were screwed together. One checked the level, the second twisted. Then the cross bars were installed. The sheet of drywall has a length of 2.5 meters. The walls are higher. In places where the sheets are joined, they must be fixed. Otherwise, cracks will form soon. The same types of profile are used as on the racks.
Installation of drywall sheets on the frame is done with an offset. Therefore, one sheet is laid from the floor, the second from the ceiling. Then the remaining places are closed.

Laying drywall on metal profiles

How to finish openings and put racks

When installing drywall, cutouts are made in the sheets at the locations of windows and doors. The edges must be attached to the profile. Therefore, after marking the wall with vertical lines, a line was repulsed by level above the windows. This is the bottom end of the finish.

Windows and doors were made in the same way:

  1. On the sides, additional racks were mounted on the walls, leaving 5 centimeters for the slope.
  2. We measured and cut to size the rack metal profile, which will be located above and below the window.
  3. With the help of crabs, the crossbars were fixed. Vertical ones were attached to them above the opening. Put on the level and screwed to the suspensions.
  4. The lower part of the rack was fixed similarly in the cross member under the window sill.

The doorway at the bottom has a threshold, so the profile was fixed on the sides and top.

GKL like finishing material, is widely used not only for indoor, but also for outdoor work. But the technology of the frame device for drywall is somewhat different in different situations, the configuration of the profiles used in a particular case also differs.

Below we will look at the types of metal frames and battens, and also watch a video on the installation of some of them.

What and how are drywall frames made of

To begin with, let's see in what places the frame for drywall can be installed. The three main places where such a structure is installed are walls (battens), ceilings and partitions.

Each of these designs can be simple (classical) or have increased complexity, including niches, figures and arches, but this already refers more to the field of design, although, of course, it cannot do without the technical side of the issue.

What are drywall frames made of?

  • Mainly from CD profile a frame is made for plasterboard on the ceiling and on the walls (sheathing). The galvanized profile is 60 mm wide and 27 mm thick (edge height), and its length is either 3 or 4 meters. The edge of the side is profiled (this can be seen in the photo above), which gives the CD additional rigidity.

  • The UD profile is identical in length to the CD profile, but its width is 27 mm (CD is inserted in thickness), the height of the side is also 27 mm. It is used for edging around the perimeter, and also, if you are interested in how to assemble the frame for a wave, then the bend is done using such a profile or UW. The profile edge is not profiled.

  • CW profiles are used mainly for partitions and have different widths - it can be 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm. The thickness (edge height) is fixed at 50 mm for any width. The length can vary, for example the CW-50 from Knauf can be 2600mm, 2750mm, 3000mm and 4000mm.

  • UW profiles are designed to hold CW and are installed around the perimeter of the frame, which is most often used for partitions, and if you are interested in how to assemble a frame for drywall for an attic, then this is just what you need. The width UW, of course, corresponds to the width CW and comes in 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm, all other dimensions (thickness and length) are also identical to CW.

  • To assemble the frame with your own hands, when connecting the profiles to each other, use small self-tapping screws 11 mm long, which are designed for steel with a thickness up to 2 mm. Screws are screwed in using a screwdriver bit marked PH-2.
  • Also, third-party fittings are used for mounting frames, these are suspensions various types, self-tapping screws and dowels, as well as molly. When assembling structures, wooden blocks and boards can be used to tighten, as well as thick adhesive tape to dampen sound (for example, on UW or UD profile sole installed on a wooden floor, a strip is glued so that the frame does not ring).

Frame on the wall (sheathing)

  • Now let's figure out how to properly assemble a drywall frame to align the wall. First of all, you need to determine the most protruding point of this plane and, guided by it, beat off a line on the floor with a masking cord (chocline) - it will serve as a border for the inside of the UD profile. Now this line needs to be transferred to the ceiling - raise it along the walls with a level, and connect it on the ceiling with the same masking cord - you have a control marking for edging with a UD profile.
  • Now you need to screw the UD around the perimeter with dowels and self-tapping screws. If the rough surface is dense enough (brick, cement-sand plaster), then impact dowels can be used, but if you have to fix the guides to limestone, concrete floors or lime plaster, then use a dummy dowel with a screw 1-2 mm thinner than the outer diameter of the dowel. Even if the instruction (sometimes found complete with profiles) says to use impact dowels, still use the second option.

  • Now we mark the wall vertically after 30 cm - these lines should coincide with the central axis of the profile, so that there are 4 carriers for each whole GKL. On these vertical marks, screw the U-shaped hangers 50-70 cm apart to mount the CD.

  • Now we just have to cut the CD profiles to the desired length and insert them into the upper and lower UDs, and the side (vertical) UDs will serve as load-bearing profiles. To make the plane even, apply a rule or a long level across, taking the vertical UD as a guide (fix the profiles to the hangers and between themselves with small smores).

Advice. The frame can be insulated by laying between the profiles mineral wool or polystyrene - the price of the structure will increase, but the wall will not only become warmer, but will not buzz if it is accidentally hit.

Partition frame

  • Now it will be clearer to you how to correctly assemble the frame for plasterboard sheathing under the partition, because the principle remains the same. First of all, beat off the perimeter with a masking cord in the place where the partition will be located, and screw the UW profile of the width you need along this line - in the same way as you screwed the UD for the crate.

  • Now you just have to cut the CW to the desired length and insert them into the UW, screwing them with self-tapping screws, as shown in the photo above. If you are interested in how to install a drywall frame in a corner, then you can use the same partitions.

  • If a door is planned in the partition, then make a perimeter for doorway from UW, just insert wooden blocks of suitable width for rigidity inside. In the same way, you can strengthen the profiles for the hanger or wall cabinets, but still fixing thick boards between them.

Any room, whether private house or work office, eventually needs renovation. Particular attention should be paid to interior decoration. The comfort of staying in it and the well-being of a person depend on the design of the room. Before the beginning construction works it is necessary to determine the cost and quality of the necessary materials.

up-to-date, technological and available material drywall has been on the construction market for a long time. With its help level wall and ceiling surfaces. Used in the design of complex structural elements design:, and decorative partitions.

Metal profile frame

Drywall (GKL) is made in the form of sheet plates with a gypsum base, and the inner and outside surface- cardboard. GKL suitable for draft interior decoration different rooms With heating system. Further fine finishing is carried out on a flat plane, which significantly reduces consumption. building materials when puttying and.

When enough reliable fastening sheets laying of a tile and a tile is possible. There are two types of fastening - mounting plates on a special glue and erecting a structure from a crate. The installation of the crate is carried out, on which the plasterboard plates are sewn after.

This technology is more reliable and has several advantages:

  • the possibility of laying hidden communications: electrical wiring, heating pipes and sewerage;
  • ease of installation of insulation boards and - between the bearing wall and the sheathing;
  • long period of operation and strength of fastening of structural elements.

Step-by-step instruction

When carrying out a full cycle of work on leveling and decorating wall and ceiling surfaces, they always start from the ceiling. This approach is necessary to further maintain the same angle (90 degrees) over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe room. After leveling the ceiling plane, proceed to the installation of the wall structure. When constructing a frame from a metal profile, work begins with marking the surface.

It is necessary to take into account the curvature of the wall and the angles of joining of the planes along the perimeter to each other.

Next, work is carried out to assemble the frame of the wall structure, according to the previously made markings and the presence of communications. Decide in advance on the exit points of the electrical wiring for switches, lamps and sockets.

Advice. For ease of further installation, mark the wiring cables and make them with a margin of 10-15 cm in length.

When installing the GKL on the wall, where heavy hanging objects are provided (boiler, boiler, TV, etc.), marking and punching holes on the sheet are carried out in advance. Holes for anchoring on the load-bearing wall can be made in advance according to the technological drawing. With a loose wall surface, it is rational to use wooden beam along the conductive attachment points with secure fixation on the strong parts of the bearing support. Installation in progress wooden slats after fixing vertical metal profiles.

Mounting pads must be noted on the technical drawing to avoid confusion during further work.

The assembly of a metal frame from profiles is carried out taking into account the observance of right angles along the entire upper and lower perimeter. For this, marking is carried out using a paint thread and a vertical plumb line. Having determined the blockages of the bearing wall, they take the starting point with the smallest distance between the planes of the structure. After the vertical beating, they begin to fasten the guide profile. It is laid in such a way that its outer part is on the marked line for attaching drywall sheets.

Important. When marking the frame for walls and ceiling, observe the condition of joining sheets on one profile.

Next, vertical profiles are cut 1 cm less than the measured length, taking into account the irregularities of horizontal deviations in height. Vertical elements are installed in horizontal rails on the floor and ceiling according to the markup.

Installation of the crate taking into account the cell pitch

  1. On the finished guide perimeter, fixed in a vertical plane, we mount the supporting profiles. We cut them to the required length and put them into horizontal guides. The installation passes through the marked areas with the same distance between them. The standard frame has a strut spacing of 600 mm. The reinforced design provides for a reduction in the distance between the profiles up to 400 mm.

    Advice. It is structurally unacceptable to make the pitch of the racks less than 400 mm, since there will be difficulties with fastening the vertical elements to the suspensions due to the multiplicity of the width of the mounted drywall sheet.

  2. Fixing elements - “pawns” are attached to the wall along the vertical profile. Their first fastening is located at a distance of 500-600 mm from the ceiling and floor slabs, and the core of the profile is fixed in increments of 1000-1200 mm.

    Important! U-shaped elements are fastened in an even state with dowels, and then they are bent and connected with screws to a vertical guide.

  3. Having mounted the hangers, an approximate marking is carried out to determine the desired bend to the outer shelves of the vertical elements. According to the vertical marking, the bearing profiles are installed and fixed with screws to the bent "pawns".

    Advice. There is no need to cut the protruding parts of the U-shaped plates - they can be bent inside the frame to the load-bearing wall.

  4. The final stage of installation will be the installation and fixation of the transverse elements. Horizontal strips form cells, the spacing between which varies from 500 to 1000 mm, depending on the required reinforcement of the structure.
  5. Profile connection methods and fastener options

    To assemble the load-bearing frames of the gypsum board structure, manufacturers have provided a variety of types of connections.

  • U-shaped elements. They have a perforated surface. Vertical profiles are attached to the load-bearing wall by bending the suspension parts.
  • Crab- an element of fastening of intersecting profiles at connecting points.
  • Couplings- to connect the overall structure longer than four meters.
  • Anchor hangers- allow you to align the plane of the ceiling from the plasterboard in height.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to use additional elements. With the help of an extension, segments of load-bearing profiled elements are connected, and an angular and arched profile is necessary to close the junction of the corner contour and create arches.

The elements are connected and fixed using the following fasteners:

  • dowels;
  • self-tapping screws for metal;
  • aluminum rivets;
  • cutters.

The difference between self-tapping screws for metal is a frequent thread pitch. For fixing GKL profiles, self-tapping screws with a length of 9.5 to 11 mm and a cap base width of 3.5 mm are used. The head slot is cross-shaped, which allows you to connect with a screwdriver.

Perforated connection does not require additional Supplies. Fastening with a cutter occurs during breakdown sheet material at the attachment point, while the profiles must fit into each other.

Aluminum rivets are rarely used. Used to connect profiles with rivets in the construction of multi-level plasterboard ceilings when used a large number of arched elements.

Important. Load bearing capacity arched profiles is less pronounced in comparison with conventional racks. For the reliability and integrity of the structure, more fastening points will be needed.

Not so long ago, builders fastened drywall sheets to ordinary wooden bars, but as practice has shown, this installation method was not very reliable. In addition, it was problematic to assemble, connect and install such a structure.

Modern metal profile frames are much stronger and more reliable than their wooden predecessors, they are more durable and easier to assemble. In addition, special components are produced for them, which again facilitates the work.

Run self-assembly a frame on a wall, ceiling or making a structure for a roof is not as difficult as it seems at first glance and everyone can do it. To do this, carefully study the proposed materials and listen to the opinions of experts. Thus, you can renovate your home and save a specific amount of money.

Installation of drywall on wooden blocks

In order to make a strong and durable structure, they first study the metal frame assembly elements offered by the modern market. They consist of various kinds profiles and fasteners.

Table of elements required for the assembly and installation of a metal-type frame:

Notes:

The supporting and guiding profiles are made of galvanized steel and have the following dimensions: thickness 0.4 mm, length 3 m or 4 m, width varies from 50 mm to 100 mm. Such profile parameters are due to the quadrature of modern premises. Ceilings more than 3 or 4 meters high are now rare, the length of straight elements for the wall frame rarely exceeds four meters.

Fastening materials for frame assembly

Algorithm for mounting the frame on the wall

  1. Before going to the store for building products, they measure the surfaces on which the structures will be mounted. This will allow you to correctly calculate the required amount of materials needed.
  2. Before starting the installation of the frame from the profile, it is recommended to complete the entire range of electrical work.
  3. The metal structure is located at some distance from the base plane in order to use the resulting gap to insulate the wall and increase the sound insulation of the room. The distance from the wall to the profile is used to accommodate auxiliary communications. It is recommended to leave a gap of 100 millimeters.
  4. The distance from one ud profile to another is no more than 1 meter, the common fastening step is 0.6 meters. Each part of the metal frame is fixed at least at three points.
  5. The distance between cd-profiles is recommended to be kept no more than 0.6 meters, ideally 0.4 m.
  6. The joints of the profiles require additional processing with a sealant in order to avoid an unpleasant creak, which inevitably occurs at the slightest deformation of the wall due to the shrinkage of the building.
  7. The vertical profile is attached in the following order: first of all, it is attached to the floor, then to the walls and then mounted to the ceiling. On these walls hardware fixed with U-shaped brackets.

Mounting the frame on the wall

Design features of the ceiling frame

When making a frame product, do not forget to use the level.

A tensioned thread is used to align the carrier profile, and a hydraulic level is used for the guide.

In addition to the above list of materials used for installation, for ceiling structure you need a quick hanger. This element is a product of two components - a loop with a knitting needle and a spring, which is equipped with a special clip and easily slides over the knitting needle. With the help of quick suspension, the frame is leveled on a horizontal level.

  1. Before starting the installation of the ceiling structure, it is determined what kind of lighting will be in the room. If it is planned to use spotlights, then it is necessary to know their height, since this parameter directly determines how far the new ceiling will fall from the base plane.
  2. The frame mounted on the ceiling is a grid of load-bearing and guiding elements, in which jumpers are installed with a fastening step of 2.5 meters, and profile products at a distance of 0.4 meters. For jumpers, "crabs" are used. In this case, the cd-profile is attached to the wall using the ud-profile, and mounted on the ceiling using quick hangers.

Roof profile metal frame construction

If galvanized steel frames are already widely used in repair work in apartments, the use of this material in the construction of the roof has not yet received such widespread use.

To accomplish this task, the following materials will be required: profiles with a thickness of 0.7 millimeters to 2.0 millimeters with different sections (P, C, Ω and Z), roofing screws or rivets made of galvanized steel, level, tape measure, plumb line.
