How to install a sliding door with your own hands. Scheme for installing sliding interior doors Installing sliding interior doors with your own hands step by step

  • 27.06.2020

Anyone who sets out to assemble sliding doors with their own hands will need to study the technology of their manufacture. This design will make the interior more diverse and consider options for economical use of space.

Pros and cons of sliding systems

Ergonomically equipping the interior of the room with the help of sliding doors is not as difficult as it might seem. In the process of performing work, appropriate knowledge about the features of this design is needed. It should not only divide the space, but also visually preserve the integrity of the room.

Before mounting the structure, it is necessary to determine its strengths and weaknesses. This will help you make the final choice whether to install or not. If you pay attention to the advantages of the door, then it should perform the following functions:

  • save room space;
  • open with drafts, which distinguishes it from hinged products;
  • maintain simplicity and ease of opening the valves;
  • ensure the cleanliness of the roller profile;
  • make it possible to automate the action of the valves;
  • instead of thresholds, use lower guides built into the floor.

Among the disadvantages of the sliding design can be identified:

  • low level of sound and heat insulation;
  • high price of door fittings;
  • the inability to install large furniture or household appliances next to the product.

Seals are glued to the end of the canvas. Installation of a sliding glass structure can be carried out on the loggia, balcony, in country house, the walls of which are of sufficient length. Once you decide to install, there are some budgetary constraints to keep in mind.

Varieties of sliding devices

In general, the system includes the following elements:

  • roller mechanism;
  • top and bottom guides;
  • sash canvas.

After attaching the mechanism to the canvas, check that the rollers can move along the guides. The mechanism is set in motion with the help of decorative panels, fittings. The set includes platbands with extensions.

Products of the following types are produced:

  • "harmonic";
  • compartment doors;
  • cascading doors;
  • radius products.

Sliding systems require the use of special fittings. Before you make a sliding door with your own hands, you will need to purchase suitable locks and handles. They must differ from the standard elements mounted on hinged sashes.

If the handles of the structure are recessed into the canvas, this allows you to freely move the canvas moving to the side. Then it should return to the niche allotted for it. The design locks also differ from the constipation of conventional canvases, since the action of the mechanism is based on vertical snapping.

When purchasing a product with a roller mechanism, you should check the availability of accessories in the kit for the canvas. If you need to install a handle with a lock with your own hands, you should select them very carefully. You may need to consult with a specialist, as well as search for the desired items in the catalog.

Roller mechanism system

The name "sliding doors" is determined by the way they open, provided by the movement of the rollers along the guides. These elements should be selected based on the following parameters:

  • type of sliding product;
  • number of valves;
  • web material type.

Because the weight different systems different, it creates a certain degree of load. Therefore, the choice of a roller system for a single leaf type of sliding door should be limited to a light mechanism.

When installing the desired type of sliding door (cascade, accordion, coupe), it is important to consider how much the roller mechanism is used. When installing a cascade-type product, it is required to install 2 roller mechanisms for each individual blade. In this case, the installation of guides with 2 gutters is carried out. It is important to consider that the creation of sliding doors, including cascading ones, requires the presence of 1 chute in the guides for all canvases separately.

The strength of the leaves is determined by the roller mechanism for sliding doors and the guide. If we are talking about a glass structure, then it may be necessary to install 2 guides on the opening: at the top and at the bottom. Only this will ensure the reliability and stability of the door, which has a large mass of the leaf.

Ways to install sliding systems

Sliding systems are suitable for both small rooms, as well as for rooms with a large area. They allow you to zone the space, while maintaining its integrity. When the doors are closed, it turns into 2 rooms, and when open, it remains intact.

Another way to use the systems is the installation of sliding doors between the loggia and the living room, the terrace and the balcony of the cottage or country house. In this case, you can use sliding glass doors that let in a lot of light.

The most expensive are complex designs of radius doors. Often they are installed in showers or rooms that have rounded shapes. These designs on curvilinear guides have an original look.

Different types of sliding doors differ slightly from each other, but the rules for their installation remain common. Before installation, you will need to consider the following nuances:

  1. The evenness of the doorway, so that you do not have to take the canvas with a margin.
  2. high load bearing capacity sides of the opening and the wall above it.

Before installation, it is necessary to fully prepare the opening: paint, wallpaper or decorate with decorative panels. Since the sliding system has its drawbacks, it is better not to mount hinged doors between the bathroom, toilet, kitchen or living room. The development of technology is associated with the emergence of new opportunities, so the horizons of use in the future should expand.

Hardware set

Since sliding systems have a unique structure, then the fittings for them must be appropriate. Sliding door locks resemble a bolt made in the form of a hook. When the key is turned in the lock, the bolt should move forward. The set includes handles made in the form of "shells". They should make a recess in the door leaf.

The main difference between the handles is that they are hidden in the canvas. This is provided so that the doors move to the side without problems. If we compare the locks of sliding structures with standard elements, then their main difference lies in the vertical latching.

Choose special fittings occurs in cases where it is not included in a single set. The choice must be made carefully as door hardware is unique to each type of construction. For high-quality installation of locks and handles, it is best to contact a specialist.

If you pay attention to additional fittings, then here you can include fasteners of various types, equipped with a door leaf. Step-by-step instructions for installing doors will help you install all the elements. The presence of a brush seal in the kit allows you to provide protection and shielding.

Glass sliding doors

By choosing the type of sliding mechanism, you can purchase a kit, and then start installing the system. To install a door on rollers with your own hands, you can first familiarize yourself with the features of the device of the most common sliding single-leaf system. The description of the work execution technique should also include other main points characteristic of other types of such structures.

Installation of a glass sliding system is an original solution for interior design or zoning. Aluminum is used as the edging. Glasses can be opaque, transparent, color. This option is quite expensive, but the money spent is worth it.

You should not purchase expensive structures if the apartment small sizes. Installing a massive glass door for such a room will not right decision. When buying, it is important to take into account the quality of the design, its components in the set, including mechanisms and accessories.

Before you make glass sliding doors yourself, you will need to take into account the differences in the method of fixing this design. The set of fasteners consists of 2 metal paws needed to clamp the glass. As a result, it is pulled together by paws with screws. Since door glasses have a large mass, they are best installed with 2 guides:

  1. In the floor
  2. Above the doorway.

After mounting the rollers, the canvas can be put in place. To complete this stage of work, it is better to invite a partner. It will help to hold the product while tightening the bolts. The roller mechanism should be hidden behind a decorative strip, reinforced from above. In the process of performing work, it is important to ensure that the canvas is located strictly horizontally.

A more time-consuming task is the installation of sliding doors with glass sheets. In this case, it is necessary to make a partition from the GKL, where the door should enter. If you install canvases with a guide in the floor, you can hollow out a special groove with a perforator.

Fittings for glass sliding doors

Installation of sliding doors is completed with the installation of door fittings. There are 2 ways to strengthen it:

  1. The guides are fixed from below - on the floor, and also from above - on the ceiling or a wooden frame.
  2. The door glass leaf is suspended from above on guides.

The latter method is inexpensive, but it is less reliable. The presence of upper rollers on door fittings reduces the quality of the entire structure. If you purchase accessories of special quality, then it costs more than usual.

The glass of the structure is not only transparent, but also multi-colored. Transparent glasses that transmit rays are an additional light source. Glass thickness can be 8 mm or more. This increases strength and reliability.

Since glass is not fragile, it cannot be broken. This indicates the safety of the product, it cannot be injured. When opening, the glass sashes should move apart along each of the guides, and not turn like swing doors.

Interior design glass doors can be done in different styles. The elegant design is an original design idea and is suitable for open-plan apartments.

Glass structures allow you to effectively divide the room into separate zones. At the same time, all living space preserved, which distinguishes such products from swing doors. Glass sheets are ideal for bathrooms or kitchens, as they allow for airtight closing. This is achieved if the fittings for sliding doors are of high quality.

Installing an interior compartment door is a task that can be completely solved even for a non-specialist. This article will focus on the types of sliding doors, their advantages and disadvantages, and, of course, how to install an interior compartment door on your own.

Purchase interior doors a responsible matter, the market offers a huge selection of sliding structures that can fit into any interior.

According to the shape and method of fastening the guides, they are divided into the following types:

  • Straight and semicircular, which are used both for cabinets and for rooms. They can be quite original.
  • Compartment interior doors mounted in the upper part of the opening, on the ceiling, floor or wall. Such a variety of fixtures allows them to be used in almost any room.

You can buy any of the listed options. Installation without problems is done by hand, and the price will depend on the finishing materials and the complexity of the mobile mechanisms.

Attention: The use of compartment doors with lower guides is fraught with a violation of the aesthetics of the room and the occurrence of some inconvenience associated with the accumulation of dust and dirt in the rails. Because of this, after some time after the start of operation, the structure takes on an untidy appearance, to which the difficult movement of the rollers is added.

The use of compartment doors for arranging small apartments or studios, which require separation of zones, is difficult due to the violation of the integrity of the interior. In order to hide this shortcoming, it is recommended to mount the rail system flush with the floor.

To do this, you must first prepare a recess in it, into which the lower rails will be inserted.

To give the structure strength and stability, it is recommended to install a number of upper rails together with the lower guides. This requirement is mandatory if the owner decides to use not light chipboard sheets, but heavy doors made of wood and glass (see). The main load in this design is carried by the bottom row.

For mounting such heavy models, stronger and more durable rollers are provided. Often, for arranging the space, compartment doors with rollers are used only on the top panel.

Depending on the place of attachment, these partitions are divided into 2 categories:

  • Mounted, which are mounted along the ceiling or wall;
  • Suspended models, the panels of which are attached to the top of the doorway.

The first type of partitions is similar to curtains. The movement system of hinged compartment doors is hidden in decorative panels. Their flaw is the loose fit of the doors to the wall, which eliminates the soundproofing of the room.

Such a system of fastening partitions also does not allow furniture doors to be placed along the movement area, which reduces the possibility of interior arrangement.

Suspended compartment door models are more practical. Their use allows not only to divide the space into zones, but also to make a certain contribution to the decor of the room. Suspended structures fit snugly against the wall, and therefore have greater sound insulation.

Sliding models are a special kind of compartment doors. A distinctive feature of such structures is that they do not move along the walls, but slide into them.

This happens due to the installation of a special cassette inside the wall. Sliding models compare favorably with their counterparts due to the possibility of the best organization of space. Their disadvantage is the high complexity and cost of the installation process.

Interior doors coupe video will also help you choose the right design option. Pay special attention to the mounting base and the wall, because the choice of the mechanism itself will depend on this.

Necessary materials for self-production of the structure

For self-designing compartment doors, you will need to purchase a minimum amount of materials. When creating a simple model at home, no more than 3-4 components are used.

Laminated chipboard used as doors.

Attention: When choosing a particular canvas, it is important to pay attention not only to the quality of the material itself, but also to its thickness. When constructing compartment doors independently, experts recommend using chipboard with a thickness of at least 16 mm.

  • This is due to the need to keep presentable appearance structure during its continuous operation. Application thin sheets requires the installation of a fastening system similar to that used when modeling a glass door.
  • For this reason, experts recommend stopping at standard 16 mm thick chipboard sheets, which can be framed with aluminum profiles to protect against deformation when constantly colliding with an opening or another door.
Roller guide rail system

Their use makes it possible to design compartment doors that slide silently and easily along the walls. There are a huge number of roller systems on the market, designed for structures of any size and shape.

The use of this type of guide differs from similar systems in the principle of operation - the doors are fixed on a solid rail, and do not hang on it like standard models. The entire load in this case falls on the lower profile.

We select accessories

When designing compartment doors, mortise handles and, if necessary, a lock are used (see). In this case, fittings of non-standard shapes are used. So, the handles look like holders recessed into the surface of the door. At the same time, locks are equipped not with standard latches, but with hooks.
self-tapping screws

With the help of which guide systems are attached to the surface of the floor, walls or ceiling.

For the installation of compartment doors, in addition to the standard set of building materials and elements, tools are required, including: an electric jigsaw or a circular saw, a screwdriver, a milling cutter, a serviceable building level and a set of screwdrivers, pliers, screwdrivers and a hammer.

Materials and tools required for installation

Preliminary measurements

Before buying everything you need for installation, carefully measure the doorway with a regular tape measure:

  • The canvas should be 5-6 centimeters wider and higher than the opening, if it is one.
  • If interior compartment doors are planned - the installation of two or more canvases, their total width is calculated based on whether they will move apart or go behind each other.

So, we have decided on the sizes.

What else is required for their installation and decoration:

  1. Door fittings and fasteners.

When buying ready-made sliding doors, fasteners and sliding elements are usually included in the delivery. These are metal guides, rollers, self-tapping screws, etc. They can also be purchased separately at any major building and finishing materials store.

  1. Wooden beam with a section of 50x50 mm.

This structural element is necessary if you install the doors with your own hands with the rail fastened to the wall. Its length should be equal to twice the width of the door leaf. In the absence of a doorway and installation of doors up to the ceiling height, the rail can be attached directly to the ceiling.

  1. , dobory and platbands.

The box is a frame framing the doorway, to which the canvases will adjoin closed door. Dobors and platbands (see) are necessary for masking fasteners and decorative framing of the opening.

  1. Anchors for fastening the timber to the wall, as well as additional self-tapping screws, finishing nails.
  2. Tools: tape measure, level, plumb line, screwdriver, pencil, milling machine or a chisel.

Preparing to install compartment doors

About how to install compartment doors, a little later, but first you need to talk about the preparatory work. At the stage of rough finishing of the premises, only the sliding systems themselves can be mounted, if it is planned that the door will “leave” when opened into a niche in the wall.

In all other cases, installation is carried out at the stage of finishing work. Before installation, make sure that the contour of the opening is correct. Its walls must be strictly vertical and parallel to each other. If this is not the case, try to correct the opening.

Attention! If the compartment door will be installed on an opening in a plasterboard partition, it is necessary to install a mortgage from a bar above it during its construction.

The order and features of the work

Now consider, below is the instruction on this issue. A strict requirement for the installation of compartment doors is their installation on a perfectly flat surface.

Regardless of the place of attachment of the structure, be it an opening or a cabinet, the first thing to do is to check the floor or the bottom of the furniture with building level for violation of the common line.

So:

  • Small deviations are acceptable, which will not interfere with the installation of compartment doors. Normal is a violation of the horizontal surface up to 5 mm. It is impossible to install the structure with deviations greater value. Therefore, it is important to avoid the presence of depressions and bulges on the floor. If necessary, such shortcomings should be eliminated.
  • Experts recommend doing everything construction works before direct installation of the compartment. It is necessary to sheathe the opening with wood or drywall in advance, treat it with putty, apply paint or stick wallpaper. Following this recommendation eliminates the risk of spoilage already installed doors these finishing materials.

The process of designing and installing compartment doors is a sequential process that should be considered point by point.

Assembly of the rail system

It is the most important stage of work, which includes several nuances.

So:

  • Before installing the frame for the compartment doors, it is necessary to make a markup in advance, along which the strips will be attached. It is important to maintain an exact parallel between the floor and ceiling rails. For this purpose, using the building level, clear lines are drawn along the entire perimeter of the opening.
  • After that, following the markup, guides are attached. To achieve greater aesthetics and structural strength, it is necessary to use guides of the same length.

Attention: It is important to cut the upper and lower strips exactly to millimeters. At the same time, one should not forget about the reliability of the frame, carefully fixing it with self-tapping screws.

Door assembly

After installing the guide system, they begin to manufacture doors for the structure. At this stage of work, certain difficulties may arise due to the small size standard apartment. But you can organize the manufacture of doors in a small room.

  • Before starting work, you need to decide on the size of the future product. So, having an opening with a width of 1800 mm, it is necessary to make 2 doors with a width of 900 mm. To these values it is also necessary to add 50 mm for overlapping one panel on another.
  • Having decided on the dimensions of the doors, they begin to trim the chipboard sheets. Before that, with the help of a pencil and a long ruler, lines are drawn on the panels, outlining the products of the desired dimensions. After drawing the contours with a saw or a jigsaw, cut out the doors along the lines.
  • Despite the accuracy of the master, chips often occur along the edges of the plates. This disadvantage must be hidden with the help of aluminum profiles.
  • Door trim is the next step. Its features depend on the type of fastening of aluminum profiles. So, some are connected to the doors using self-tapping screws, others are glued into a groove cut in the chipboard panel. Having little experience with a router, it is recommended to stop at the first option. To hide the screws, caps are used to match chipboard.
  • You can not do without the use of a milling cutter at the next stage of work - the installation of rollers. It is necessary to attach the roller to the bottom area of the panel at a distance of 100 mm from the edge and outline its contours. After that, a groove for placing a roller in it is cut out according to the outlines, which is firmly fastened with a self-tapping screw. In a similar way, fittings crash into the compartment door. A pen is applied to the selected area on the door, the contours are outlined with a pencil, along which a through hole is cut. Halves of the holders are installed in the passages and fastened with a screw.

Door installation

This stage is not difficult and consists in installing the panels on the rail system.

So:

  • The mounted doors alternately lead up the structure, then, lifting them, place them on the bottom rail. The stage of installation of the panels can be facilitated by using special rollers with snaps, with which, if necessary, they can be lowered before installing the doors in the structure or raised to engage the panels with the bottom bar.
  • After installing the doors on the guide system, it is necessary to adjust the movement system. The adjustment is carried out by rotating the mechanism along the displaced center.
  • The process of designing and installing compartment doors is not difficult. But for a person who does not have the skill to work with building materials and tools, it may seem impossible. In the presence of such doubts, it is recommended not to even start independent work for the manufacture of doors, and entrust it to professionals.

Interior compartment doors will serve you faithfully for many years, the main thing is to choose the right installation mechanism in your version. Therefore, analyze everything before making a choice.

The peculiarity of sliding doors is that when they are opened, they do not take up useful space in the room and save space, and therefore more and more people give preference to them. Today, such doors can be made of glass or other materials, such as wood.

Hinged structures have a peculiarity in that they can have a different number of wings. This allows you to completely divide the room into two different rooms. You can also isolate the room from other rooms.

Kinds

Before you start choosing sliding doors, you must first understand their design. This will make it easier to mount such a door if it is installed on its own.

There is a difference between a sliding door and a regular one. It lies in the fact that for ordinary doors, the leaf is connected to the frame. With a sliding mechanism, there is no such connection. These are two separate parts that can perform different functions and are independent of each other.

In ordinary doors, the frame is the main supporting structure on which the leaf is hung. In hinged doors, these are separate elements, and the box plays a more decorative role, giving the opening a beautiful appearance.

The bearing role in single-leaf swing systems is played by another element, which is installed on the side of the door on the wall. On it passes the movement of the door leaf. This usually happens with the help of rollers and guides.

As you might guess guides and wheels - the main part of the swing structure. It is arranged quite simply: rollers move along an aluminum rail, which, in turn, are attached to the canvas. The latter simply hangs on such a profile and moves along it with the help of rollers.

Also in the profile there are special stops that are placed additionally. It is because of them that the canvas cannot move more than the prescribed distance to the side. Limiters do not allow the door to move further in both directions.

It is this simple design of swing doors that makes their installation quite simple and does not require special training. That is why such systems are installed today by many residents of both private houses and apartments.

Advantages and disadvantages

Initially, sliding systems were quite fragile and unreliable. Also, the doors did not move well along the rails, sometimes they got stuck, which caused a lot of unpleasant moments for the owners. Now everything has changed, as high-quality fittings and other elements of the system have appeared.

Advantages of modern mechanisms:

  1. Do not open in draft.
  2. Save space in the room.
  3. Possibility to choose different material doors.
  4. You can implement any design innovations.
  5. There are no elements that creak.
  6. Security.
  7. Harmonious combination.

There are also disadvantages in sliding systems:

  1. Cracks cannot be avoided.
  2. They are relatively expensive compared to conventional systems.
  3. Poor installation can lead to the fact that the sashes will not move well along the rails.
  4. There must be free space on the side where the sash will move.
  5. When the door is hidden in a niche, a lot of dust can collect there, which will be difficult to remove.

Based on the foregoing, it turns out that before making a decision on the installation of such systems, it is necessary to weigh everything well and think over, study examples. After that, it will become clear whether to install such a system or not.

Mounting Features

Usually such mechanisms are not as difficult to install as it might seem at first glance. Installation of interior doors will take 2-3 hours with minimal experience. In this way, you can also install furniture mechanisms in cabinets or on bedside tables. But usually this will need to be done in the apartment when the cabinets are built into the walls.

Allowed to use automatic parts, which makes the process of opening or closing doors even easier. But this requires additional elements for installation and cannot always be done on its own. Therefore, such structures will be discussed separately.

In order to install the system immediately and correctly, you first need to take measurements and make calculations. Initially, you need to understand that sliding systems can be of the following types:

  1. The canvas moves along the wall.
  2. The canvas moves in the wall.

In the first case, the entire structure will be held on a profile that is attached to the wall. In the second case, the canvas can also move on the lower suspension. But this method has one drawback, namely, that there will be a threshold in front of the doors. Also, sometimes two of these types of fasteners can be used at once. This ensures the reliability and durability of the system.

It is important to remember that in many cases the cost of the mechanism itself does not depend on the type of wood and the material of its manufacture, but also on the quality of the fittings. If you buy inexpensive platbands or pens, you can save a lot.

You need to know that when it is planned to make a door that will move inside the wall, then you can not knock out the opening, but simply make a false wall of drywall. This will reduce the time for work. It will also help to keep the wall structure the same and complete.

Mechanisms

Sliding structures can be equipped different types mechanisms. Among them are:

  1. Hidden. The canvas moves inside the wall. Everything for such a system should be prepared for initial stage. To do this, you need to knock out a hole inside the wall or put sheets of plasterboard on top of it. As a result of such actions, the thickness of the wall can be slightly increased, which will take up the useful area of the room. Also, debris and dust will accumulate in such niches, which will make cleaning difficult.
  2. open. Installation of such a mechanism can be carried out at any time. It is important here that there is an opening away from the doors and enough space for installing guides. There is no need to carry out any work to rebuild the wall. In this case, there are many options for installing guides, which makes it possible to choose the best option for a particular case.

Guides

The last thing you should pay attention to when deciding on the installation of sliding structures is the profiles along which the door will move. They can be placed at the bottom or at the top. It all depends on the design features. They can also be placed on both sides at the same time:

  • Upper. This profile installation option is the most popular. It turns out that the canvas will hang on the profile along which it moves. This can be done when the weight of the canvas itself is small. Such guides can last longer, dusting the rollers will be easier, and they will not jam.
  • Lower. Such guides are rarely used, as they are subject to deformation during use, and therefore may not last long. Such skids will require constant cleaning from dust and debris. The door will not slide smoothly unless it has a support at the top.
  • Combined. They are used in cases where the system is large and heavy. This ensures a smoother sliding through the openings.

Required Tools

To avoid any hitches in the work, before you start the installation, you should purchase all the materials and prepare the tools. They can be bought at any specialized store. Without them, this work would not be possible.

Need:

  • Case for a sliding door;
  • Fastening;
  • Pens;
  • Drill;
  • Correct guide;
  • Cassette in the wall;
  • Fasteners for a niche;
  • Liquid Nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Anker;
  • Racks;
  • Canvas;
  • Beam made of wood.

It is also worth purchasing a system along which the door will move. It can be a system made of plastic, metal or aluminum. It is also important to buy high-quality plastic alloy rollers so that they do not wedge and move smoothly along the guides.

Step-by-step instruction

If the design has a complex shape or heavy weight, then the presence of a specialist will be required to perform such work. Therefore, it is important not to start such an event on your own, as this can lead to disastrous results and affect costs. If there are no skills in such work, then only small systems can be installed independently.

When a ready-made set of doors was bought, such work can be done quite simply. It does not require a lot of effort and time. The system will have everything you need to carry out such work. It only takes everything is properly prepared and installed.

If you need to install the system according to your project, then such work will be quite difficult to perform. Here it will be necessary to individually select all fittings, guides, hinges and other elements for this or that case.

Usually, the installation of the mechanism begins with an opening. To do this, you need to dismantle the old canvas and put the opening in order. Can be used to level the walls of cement or hold plastering work. All irregularities and cracks must be removed from the wall surface. Drywall should be cut evenly along the edge, and excess cement and a layer of plaster should be removed.

In order for the guides to run parallel to the floor, it is necessary to knock out a straight line above the opening, on which the guide rail will be attached. If a decorative element is still attached to the wall, then it will also need to leave space for it and place it exactly above the door.

It is also worth checking the upper element of the opening relative to the floor. They must be parallel. Using a plumb line, you need to check the opening itself and its perpendicularity to the floor. A deviation of 5-10 millimeters is allowed. But at the same time, the smoother the wall, the denser the canvas will adhere to it.

Next, you need to put the box. It will be difficult to cope with such work on your own. You will need a partner. The box must be installed in the opening and leveled there with wedges. It should stand exactly relative to the floor and walls. After that, the box should be fixed with anchors or screws. It must be tightened carefully so as not to dislodge.

Next, you need to check the correctness and parallelism of the fastening line of the guide relative to the door opening. This must be done, as the floor may not be very even, especially in apartments. If the line is correct, then it should be the same distance from the opening at all corners.

A guide is attached along this line. In order for the canvas to lie tightly, the guide should be attached to the wall as rigidly as possible. For this, self-tapping screws and anchors are used.

Limiters

Each carriage after such work must be attached to the door and inserted into the guide. There are also limits placed. They should protrude a little in the rail so that the rollers do not jump over them. It is also worth making sure that the rollers move freely in the rail.

To ensure the long-term operation of the rollers and their free movement in the rail, you should not lubricate them with anything, as dust will accumulate there.

canvas

To correctly and quickly install the canvas with your own hands, you will need an assistant and a diagram. The canvas must be attached tightly to the guide and the rollers should be brought inside. Then they are attached to the canvas so that they sit there firmly. Wherein it is important that the gap between the door and the base does not exceed 5 millimeters. If this does not happen, then the canvas must be tightened with self-tapping screws.

There are few people who want to have an apartment or a house without interior doors. But, almost everyone thought about which doors between rooms are better to install. So that it is both beautiful and functional, and does not take up space.

This is exactly what sliding interior doors are - a slider (diverging, sliding, moving to the side (into a wall, opening, pencil case) in one plane, i.e. doors that ride on rollers, sleds on rails).

Sliding interior doors - pros and cons

From a constructive point of view, there are two types of interior doors:

In this case, the door leaf is hung on awnings. swing doors traditional and well established. They give the room a rich look, but take up a lot of space, which leads to inconvenience in the implementation of interior solutions.

2. Sliding interior doors.

A modern solution that allows you to more rationally use the space of the room.

Sliding doors are divided into two subspecies:

Embedded in the wall(in a pencil case) and working on the principle of a compartment.

Sliding doors hidden in the wall (sliding into the wall, recessed into the wall) have a mechanism that allows you to move the door parallel to the wall.

The principle of operation of sliding doors built into the wall is as follows: rollers are installed on the door leaf, and guides are installed on the doorway (the door will go into the wall) or above the doorway (the door will go behind the wall).

The rollers move along the guides, freeing the doorway for passage.

.

They consist of small lamellas (made of wood or plastic), which, when moved, can significantly save space.

The principle of the device is interesting, but cheap options are not practical. Instructions for assembly and installation of accordion doors are attached by the manufacturer.

Sliding door advantages:

  • unusual, non-standard solution;
  • the absence of blind areas and problems with the arrangement of furniture;
  • security. The owner of sliding doors is not in danger of knocking on the corner of the door in an unlit room (but, you need to be careful, children can stick their fingers between the wall and the door);
  • such a door will not open with a draft.

Disadvantages of sliding doors:

  • high installation cost. But, doing the work with your own hands, the costs are minimized and no higher than when installing swing doors;
  • bad insulation. The absence of an obstacle to the penetration of noise, light, odors can be eliminated by installing a felt gasket on the end of the door;
  • the complexity of caring for the pencil case, i.e. the place where the sliding door goes with a hidden structure. This problem is solved in two ways. With the help of a vacuum cleaner with the nozzle removed, debris is removed from the pencil case. The second option, more radical, involves removing drywall from one side of the wall. It should be noted that in a residential building, the vacuum cleaner does an excellent job;
  • the complexity of the repair. When installing the sliding door yourself, you can buy a few spare rollers to replace them if necessary.

Sliding door mechanism - sliding systems

As you can see, the main difference between sliding doors and swing doors is the mechanism of their functioning, which determines the options for door movement.

Thus, a sliding mechanism for interior doors can be:

1. Intrawall (hidden mechanism). As the name implies, such a mechanism involves the movement of the door inside the wall. The system of such doors should be implemented at the stage of wall construction, because free space is arranged in the wall - a case for a sliding door. Consequently, the wall becomes thicker by the width of the canister. This somewhat reduces the useful area, but the walls are freed up, near which you can install furniture, hang pictures or put flowers.

2. External (open mechanism). This sliding door system can be installed at any time, because does not require rebuilding the wall. In this case, the door moves along the guides along the wall. Therefore, you need to leave free space on one or two sides of the wall (depending on the number of doors and the direction of their movement).

It should be noted that there are a lot of options for door movement with an external mechanism (see diagram). That allows you to choose the best method for a particular room. Sliding doors, consisting of four leaves, deserve special attention. Here internal doors open towards the outside. What is especially important when you need to close a wide doorway or niche.

Guides for sliding doors

The last thing worth stopping at before starting the installation of sliding doors is the guide rails (profiles) along which the door moves during operation. They can be placed on top or bottom, or on both sides.

  • top guides. The most popular way. They should be used with a small weight of the door leaf. Guides located at the top function longer and are less at risk of breakage;
  • bottom guides. They are rarely used on their own, as they are easily deformed by simply stepping on them. In addition, the runners will need constant cleaning. And a door devoid of an upper support will not slide smoothly;
  • combined. Used for big weight doors or for smoother opening.

In this article, we will consider how to install sliding interior doors with an external sliding mechanism.

1. Material

Knowing everything related to the types and mechanisms of the functioning of the door, you can proceed to the purchase of material and the preparation of the tool.

We will need:

  1. the door itself (canvas, box, platbands);
  2. accessories (guide profiles (runners), rollers, handles, locks);
  3. timber 50x30 for fastening the guide.
  4. hardware for fastening;
  5. level;
  6. roulette;
  7. hacksaw with fine teeth;
  8. drill;
  9. chisel.

Advice. With a door weight of more than 27 kg. you need to use 4 rollers, for a lighter one, two are enough.

So that handles and locks do not deform the wall and do not spoil the wallpaper when moving apart, it is worth installing hidden options, i.e. the ones that hit the door.

2. Preparation

At this stage, it turns out exactly where the door will be installed, and in which direction it will open. If two sliding doors are installed side by side, then you need to consider the convenience of opening them.

Advice. Sliding doors can be hung on common long upper skids or hidden in one pencil case. In this case, the width of the pencil case should be sufficient.

Dismantled if necessary old door, and the doorway is brought to the desired state and the door frame is installed, taking into account the gap between the door and the finished floor.

Advice. For residential premises, the gap should be 10 mm. If the final floor has not yet been poured (laid), then you need to take into account the height of the screed, leveling and thickness floor covering.

3. Interior doorway

  • We determine the dimensions of the doorway - the height and width of the door are measured.

Advice. It is better to take measurements at several points (top, middle, bottom). The door height is interchangeable in the closed and open state. This is necessary to take into account possible irregularities on the floor.

  • The beam is installed. To do this, draw a straight line over the top edge of the box. The distance from the box to the line is equal to the width of the guide. A bar is attached exactly to the line. In this case, the middle of the beam should be located above the right side of the interior door frame if the door opens to the right.

Advice. The width of the beam must be sufficient so that after installing the platbands, the door can be freely closed.

  • Upper guide profiles for sliding doors are installed. The skids are mounted on a beam and fastened with hardware.

Advice. To check the correct installation of the skids, you need to run a roller over them. With unhindered sliding, you can proceed to further work. If problems arise, it is best to remove them immediately.

  • The lower skids (rails) are installed. To do this, you can choose one of several options:
  • a part of the subfloor (or parquet, laminate, tile) is selected, and the lower guide is inserted there. The lower rollers will move along it;
  • the guide is installed directly on the floor (parquet, laminate), and in order not to destroy it, a threshold is set;
  • installation of the guide knife. But, since the system of lower guides is rarely used, if necessary, the so-called package knife is installed more often. Its purpose is to hold the door and prevent it from deviating from the given direction of movement.

The non-threshold sliding door system makes it possible to realize the operation of the door without destroying the floor covering (no need to lay rails). The mechanism works thanks to carriages with rollers on ball bearings, which move along guides with shock absorbers and a lower connection. The upper guide is hidden behind a decorative trim, in the same color as the door.

4. Assembly of sliding doors

We hang rollers (roller mechanism) on the upper end of the door.

At the bottom end, at a distance of 15 mm. holes are drilled from both edges. A groove is selected between them along the entire length. Its width is 2 mm. exceeds the width of the knife. The depth is equal to the height of the knife and is usually 10-18 mm. Part of the butt without a groove will play the role of a natural door stop.

5. Installation of fittings for sliding doors

Installation includes the installation of handles and lock tie-in. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the appearance of the door. Often this procedure is entrusted to specialists.

6. Installation of a sliding interior door

The door is installed in the rails. After the door has been moved, limiters (rubber shock absorbers) are inserted into the skids, they will not allow the door to “fall out” of the guides when opening and soften the stop.

7. Sliding door decoration

To make the doorway look beautiful, you need to close all the structural elements. For this, platbands are used. They are mounted on the door frame and upper rails.

But, this is not a prerequisite, because often the structural elements are an integral part of the solution. For example, when using high-tech or modern style.

The installed door in the section will have the form shown in the diagram (drawing).

8. Care and maintenance of sliding doors

In order for the doors not to create problems during operation, you need to properly care for them. For this you need:

  • avoid getting water on the door so that it does not lead (if the canvas is made of wood);
  • keep the guides clean. Debris trapped inside the guides will cause the door to close with difficulty;
  • close the door gently. Do not close the door with force, this will accelerate the wear of the rollers. In the worst case, the limiter may fall out and the door will “fly out” of the guides;
  • check the condition of the hardware from time to time. It is easier to replace the rollers in time than to deform the guide profiles over time;

Conclusion

Proper installation of sliding doors between rooms and timely replacement of component parts is the key to the long-term functioning of any door.

The tightness of standard city apartments forces their owners to use a variety of devices and structures, the operation of which will help save precious living space. Having made sliding doors on rollers with their own hands and installing them instead of traditional swing doors, the owner will be able to free up space for installing furniture or simply increase the free space of the premises. In addition, sliding structures are often installed in large openings between rooms and become a kind of mobile, allowing, if necessary, to divide them into different rooms or combine them into one large hall.

Having understood the principles of installation of such a design, it is quite possible to assemble and install sliding doors on your own, saving on the involvement of craftsmen, if you have necessary tools, and the owner himself has stable carpentry and locksmith skills and due care.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding door structures

The choice of specific models of sliding doors depends on the layout of the apartment, as well as on the design of the rooms. But before you buy interior sliding systems, you need to learn not only about them positive qualities but also about their weaknesses.

So, sliding doors have the following positive qualities:

  • They provide significant space savings.
  • Unlike a hinged design, a sliding door will never randomly open and close from drafts.
  • Such doors even help to visually expand the small space of the apartment.
  • The advantage is the absence of thresholds in some types of such structures, which is extremely convenient if the apartment is inhabited by elderly or disabled people, as well as small children.
  • A sliding double door is able to divide the room into separate zones, which helps to optimally use the space of a one-room apartment.
  • With the right approach, the sliding door is not so difficult to install and easy to operate.
  • The sliding design is able to bring individuality into the standard layout of the apartment, to transform it aesthetically.
  • Thanks to modern technology, sliding doors are easy to automate, and this distinctive feature can be called one of the key advantages over hinged structures.

However, it is equally important to know the “cons” of such doors, since, having installed them, it will be necessary to observe some conditions for their operation:

  • The roller system and the guide rail along which the door leaf will move must always be maintained in good condition and clean, otherwise they may fail, and one day the door will jam in one position.
  • Usually, a standard sliding structure, unlike a hinged one, is unable to soundproof the divided rooms with high quality, since between door frame and the door leaf will remain, at least small gaps.
  • The door will not be able to contain the smells from cooking if it is planned to be installed at the entrance to the kitchen room.
  • All design parameters during its installation must be well measured, and its elements must be installed perfectly vertically and horizontally, otherwise the door may wedge. However, this requirement probably applies to any type of door structures.
  • Installing a double-leaf door is a more complicated process than one consisting of a single leaf, since the movable canvases will need to be very accurately adjusted not only to the doorway, but also to each other.
  • The high cost of sliding structures also cannot be attributed to the advantages.

Varieties of sliding doors

There are several types of sliding doors. They differ from each other in design, appearance and installation of the working mechanism.

All types of sliding doors have general principle work, which distinguishes them from swing structures - they move along a horizontal line, along the door and wall. However, these systems are subdivided into Various types and may be:

- traditional sliding;

- cascading;

- folding - "accordion";

- radial sliding.

Any of the existing structures can be single-leaf or multi-leaf. So, from two to four door panels can be included in a multi-leaf system.

If the door has not yet been selected, then it is worth considering the features of each type, and only after that decide on the design.

Traditional sliding doors

Traditional sliding doors are divided into suspended, cassette suspended, and having two guides - upper and lower.

  • Bottom and top rail design

This type of sliding doors is the most common, and most often chosen for installation in apartments, as it is considered the most reliable, of course, when the guides are correctly set and fixed. In this design, one or more leaves move along the upper and lower rails.

It should be noted right away that this type of sliding doors is quite complicated for self-assembly, as it is necessary to perfectly fit the upper and lower guides to each other.

Find out a completely doable task from a new article on our portal.

The disadvantage of this system is the fact that the lower rail is mounted on the floor surface, that is, either a threshold will be formed, or a recess will have to be cut. In the guide profile, which is installed in the floor, dust and small debris will definitely collect, which can impede, slow down, and sometimes even block the movement of the door leaf, so you will need to constantly monitor the cleanliness of this assembly very carefully.

  • Hanging sliding doors

Suspended structures are also quite popular, as they do not require the installation of a rail in the floor and do not have a threshold, but move only along the upper rail.

The rail is fixed to the wall above the doorway or to the ceiling, depending on the height of the selected door and room. The guide can be located openly or closed with a masking or decorative casing.

The door leaf in this design option will be in limbo, at a distance of 10 ÷ 15 mm from the wall, so you need to take into account the fact that it will not work to put one of the pieces of furniture against the wall towards which the door will open.

Depending on how the interior will be decorated, the false panel that will cover the upper rail can be fixed only on the segment of the door movement or from wall to wall, and sometimes a similar “border” is placed around the entire perimeter of the room. In the latter case, she will play the role decorative element interior and will serve, in addition, as a masking of the cornice for curtains. The option of fixing the border along all the walls of the room is possible if the door guide is high enough on the wall.

  • Hanging sliding cassette doors

This version of sliding doors can have a suspended structure or move along two rails. Its main difference from previous varieties is the location of the rails and canvas inside the doorway. That is, when moving the door along the guides, it will go into a niche arranged in a wall special for this purpose.

If a similar design is chosen in a private house, then it is usually provided in advance, when building walls or partitions. Well, in an apartment, such a niche is formed from a plasterboard structure, but in this case, you need to consider that the size of the room will decrease by about 100÷120 mm.

The advantage of this option can be called a tighter fit of the end side of the door when it is closed and the absence of an open gap between the wall and the canvas, which means that the sound insulation of the rooms will be an order of magnitude higher than in any other sliding structure.

In addition, by installing a similar kind of doors, you can free up the wall and the space in front of it, adding aesthetics and comfort to the interior.

However, considering all the alterations that will need to be made when installing cassette sliding doors, it is clear that the total cost of their installation will be quite high, even if all the work is done independently.

Cascade sliding structures

The cascading version of the sliding doors is arranged according to the same principle as the traditional one, with upper and lower guides, but differs in that it consists of several canvases, each of which moves along its own separate rail. Therefore, such a system can be moved apart in the form of a partition, dividing the room into two zones, or be assembled near one of the walls and cover the room only by the width of one sheet.

Such systems are usually used as partitions, but they may well become a wall with a door if only one of the panels is moved. Such sliding structures are most often made of natural or polymer glass of different shades, and have a height from ceiling to floor, so the lower guides are built into the floor, and the upper ones are fixed to the ceiling.

Very often, such systems are used to create glazed verandas or terraces - there is always the opportunity to turn the room into an open summer recreation area.

How can you rationally use the veranda or terrace

Modern window and door designs allow you to fully use the premises of the house or outbuildings in winter time, and in the summer, turn them into open cozy recreation areas. An example is, which are described in a special publication of our portal.

Sliding design - "accordion"

The sliding system "accordion" can act as a partition or door. It consists of several canvases interconnected by end loops.

Sliding folding door design - "accordion"

This is enough complex structure for self-manufacturing, and assembly is best done with the invitation of an experienced specialist.

The width of the door panels can be different - it depends on the size of the opening and the free space that can be allocated for the structure when folded.

The "accordion" system can be installed in a standard or wide doorway, as well as a partition that divides the room into zones. When installing it to act as a partition, the rails are mounted on the floor and ceiling.

The characteristic disadvantages of this design include the almost complete lack of sound and heat insulation.

Radius sliding structures

Sliding radius systems give the interior of any room a special charm, but to install them, you will have to create a semicircular plasterboard wall. This type of structure can be used for installation in a doorway or serve as a full-fledged room partition, installed from ceiling to floor.

The radius variant mounts on the top and bottom rails and can run on the outer or inside walls, as well as being built into it, that is, empty walls inside will become a cassette into which the door leafs will hide when they are opened.

A well-made and properly installed structure of this type is capable of creating a sufficiently high sound and heat insulation. However, if there is no experience in installing a radius system of sliding doors and plasterboard structures, but there is a great desire to have such a decorative and functional element in the interior of your apartment, then it is better to entrust its installation to an experienced master - self-installation will be extremely difficult.

Production and installation of a sliding door on rollers

Materials for assembling a suspended door structure

Suspended structure is the most simple option for self-assembly, and therefore it is worth considering how all work is carried out, and what materials will be needed for them.

  • Depending on the size of the doorway, one or two door leaves will be required. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the massiveness of the canvases, since according to this parameter the fittings elements that should keep them on weight will be selected.

For a suspended structure, the canvas should be larger than the doorway.

  • The upper guide is a rail along which the door leafs will move with the help of roller mechanisms fixed to them. The length of the guide should be equal to twice the width of one or two door leaves.

Top guide - metallic profile. It requires a beam of the same length
  • A wooden beam, equal in length to the rail, and having a cross-sectional size of at least 50 × 50 mm - a guide will be fixed to it.
  • A set of rollers and fasteners, selected according to the weight and thickness of one or two canvases.

  • Quality boards or panels for framing a doorway - making a box.
  • Three architraves - two vertical and one horizontal, for the doorway, and a false panel that will cover the timber and the guide, fixed above the doorway.
  • It can be built into the structure, if desired, it is installed for easier closing of the door leaf.
  • One or two sets of door handles.

  • Anchors for fixing the timber to the wall.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Fasteners for installing architraves and false panels.
  • Mounting polyurethane foam to fill the gaps between the door frame and the wall.

If there is no certainty that the door leaf will be made independently with the required quality, then it is better to purchase it ready-made, since the doors produced on professional equipment, will look much more impressive.

Tools for the job

Now about the tools, without which it will not be possible to make a door system and install it.

The list of the minimum required includes the following items:

  • Electric drill (perforator) with drills for wood and concrete.
  • Circular saw, electric jigsaw and hand saw.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Building level, plumb line, 1000 mm ruler, square, tape measure, folding rule.
  • Electric or conventional planer.
  • Manual milling machine with a set of necessary cutters.
  • Hammer, chisel, pliers.

Door leaf manufacturing

If the door will be made independently, then you need to know what it can be made of, and what models of canvases can be used in this design.

Suspended doors can be solid, paneled or with the use of artificial glass installed in a frame with a different number of lintels. A solid canvas can be made from solid boards, chipboard or well-finished wooden beam and plywood. It should be noted that all these materials have a sufficiently large massiveness, therefore ready-made options Hanging door leafs are often made using high quality plastic or metal, which is used as a frame for installing transparent synthetic glass inserts into it.

In any case, whether the doors are purchased ready-made or made independently, the parameters of the canvas should be selected depending on the size of the doorway. The exact ratios of these dimensions can be found in the tables above.

For example, for a doorway with one leaf measuring 865 × 2175 mm, with a box installed in it, a door with a size of 900 × 2200 mm is required, and when installing a double-leaf structure in an opening measuring 1765 × 2175 mm, the leaves should have a size of 900 + 900 ×2200 mm.

If a chipboard panel of the right size is purchased as a blank for the door, it can be made lighter by cutting out one or more windows in it, then milling their edges and installing thin plywood or glass in them.

The manufacturing process of a glazed or lightweight chipboard sheet is carried out as follows:

  • The panel is marked up to begin with. In this case, it is necessary to observe the condition that, in any case, at least 150 mm must be retreated from the edges. Thus, the framing of a door leaf made of chipboard should not be narrower than this size.
  • After marking, the inner parts of the panel are sawn out electric jigsaw. In order to carry out this process, a hole is drilled in one of the marking corners, then a jigsaw blade is inserted into it, and the marked parts of the panel are carefully cut out.
  • Next, you need to qualitatively process the inner edges resulting from cutting out the openings, otherwise they will look sloppy. This work can be done in two ways - to process the edges with a milling cutter or to ennoble with a relief glazing bead. The bead is cut to the size of the windows, then glued or nailed around the entire perimeter on one side of the panel.

  • Further, according to the size of the window, glass or an insert from plywood is cut out, and installed in it, pressing against the fixed glazing bead. After that, the inserts on the other side are fixed with a second glazing bead.
  • The end surfaces of the door leaf made of chipboard can be ennobled with a special decorative thermal tape, which is glued with a conventional iron.
  • If plywood inserts are installed in the cut-out windows, they can be adjusted to the overall color before installation by painting, staining or laminating. Glazing beads should also have a color close to all elements of the door structure.
  • Doors can also be made from timber different size in cross section, but the thickness of the frame frame should not be more than 30 mm.

The beam for the manufacture of such a door leaf must be of high quality and well processed.

The beam from which the internal lintels of the frame will be made must have a smaller or the same thickness as the frame. The size of the glazing bead and the thickness of the panels that will be installed in the formed windows must be thought out in advance, since the first should not protrude outward relative to the surface of the entire door leaf.

It should be noted that the manufacture frame door from a bar - a more complicated process, since all the elements of the frame are fastened together with the utmost accuracy and reliability, otherwise the finished canvas can "lead", that is, its frame is deformed.

  • There are several methods for joining timber, but the most popular are in the "half-tree" and "in the paw". They are quite simple to cut, keep the structure well from deformation and securely fasten the elements together.

It is better if the bars are fastened together not with metal screws, or even more so with nails, but with special wooden dowels, which are driven into holes drilled through, you need a diameter at the nodes of the adhesive joint of the bars. For each of these door frame nodes, it is necessary to use two dowels installed diagonally.

  • In the lower end part of the leaf, over its entire width, a groove is milled for the flag roller or, as it is called in another way, the lower door latch.

Hanging system installation

When the door leaf is ready, it is necessary to fix the fittings on it - these are roller mechanisms, special locks or handles that are different from those installed in the usual swing structures. In any sliding doors, the handles are recessed into the canvas, as they should not interfere with its movement.

  • The first step is to mark the location of the handle on both sides of the door leaf. It should be located at a distance of 35÷50 mm from the vertical edge of the panel.
  • After that, from the marked line, the width of the nest and its height are marked. Further, a distance equal to half the width of the future hole is measured from the upper marking point - this point will be the center of the circle, which is drilled with a crown drill of the desired diameter.

  • The same process is carried out on the underside of the marked socket for the pen. You should get two non-through recesses, having a depth to which the handle will be recessed into the canvas.
  • Then, the wood between the two marked crowns with round recesses is selected using a milling cutter or chisel and a hammer.
  • Handles in sliding structures are fixed in those cut out with glue, for example, “liquid nails”, or snapped into special fasteners, which are pre-screwed into the resulting opening.
  • The next step on the upper end side of the door leaf, you need to mark and fix the roller mechanisms with self-tapping screws. Under them, most likely, you will have to choose curly grooves with a milling cutter (chisel).
  • The rollers must be fixed at a certain distance from the edges of the door leaf. This parameter is indicated in the instructions attached to the set of metal fittings.
  • Now the finished door can be set aside for the time being, and you can start upgrading, of course, if the door frame is not already installed in it.
  • It is much easier to assemble and install a frame for sliding doors than for swing structures, since it consists of three absolutely even elements - two vertical and one horizontal boards (panels), fastened together with long self-tapping screws.

The box can be made from massive board or chipboard - this factor does not play in this case big role, since no load falls on the mounted structure. Its only purpose is to give the doorway a neat and aesthetic look.

  • The fastened frame is installed in the doorway and wedged with wooden spacers, which are driven between its panels and the wall to achieve perfect verticality and horizontality of the walls.

The position of the box panels is controlled using a building level and a plumb line. When the structure is installed perfectly accurately, it is fixed to the walls. This can be done by drilling into the boards of the box through holes or by screwing metal plates to the end sides of the boards and to the wall.

  • Further, on the prepared beam, equal in length to the double width of the door leaf, a metal guide for the rollers is fixed with the help of self-tapping screws.
  • Holes are pre-drilled in the beam through which it will be fixed on the wall.
  • After that, roller mechanisms mounted on the door are inserted into the guide rail.

  • The whole structure is attached to the doorway, leveled, if necessary, temporarily propped up with wooden wedges, and then the beam is “tightly” screwed to the wall.
  • Next, the door moves to one side and the other of the guide to determine the places at the beginning and end of the rail where travel stops or stoppers for the web will be fixed. Stoppers in different models of doors may have a different design.

  • The next step ahead open door, in its lower end part, in a cut-out groove, a flag roller is installed and screwed to the floor. It should be perfectly level under the top guide rail.

This lower stop does not allow the door leaf to go to the side, that is, it does not allow its transverse vibrations.

  • Next, the gaps between the wall and the boards of the door frame are filled mounting foam. After it dries, the protruding surplus is cut off.
  • Then the timber and the guide rail are decorated with a false panel, and the gaps between the door frame and the wall are trimmed.

In the considered case, the installation of the simplest sliding suspended structure, not complicated by unnecessary elements, was presented. Therefore, the installation of such a system seems to be quite affordable for independent implementation by any home master, of course, subject to taking into account all the nuances and following technological recommendations.
