Greenhouse in the cottage. How to build a winter garden at home - the choice of design, heating and important supply systems

  • 03.03.2020

Modern projects residential buildings are of great variety. When planning the construction of their own home, many tend to choose an original, attractive project that will provide maximum comfort. One of these ideas is a house with a winter garden.

A residential building today should be distinguished not only by reliability, durability and external attractiveness, energy-saving technologies are also relevant. Projects of houses with a winter garden help to partially solve this problem by saving on heating, microclimate installations and lighting.

How exactly is this result achieved? Everything is very simple, a winter garden is a structure that is created using translucent structures, it protrudes from part of the facade or is an extension to the walls. The garden itself is one with the house, but transparent roofs and walls are used for it - this makes it possible to solve the problem of lighting a large area in daytime. Green spaces freshen the air, control humidity.

A winter garden is a building in the form of a part of a living room or a separate room of a house. There are a lot of projects that include a winter garden, but they are united by such features - the unity of design and style, the preservation of the rhythmic facade line.

When choosing a project, one must be very careful about where exactly the winter garden will be located, what layout it will have. The best option would be to allocate a zone of green spaces, a place for recreation and communication. The average area is 15-20 sq.m., while the most successful projects are when the garden smoothly turns into a living room.

Today you can choose any project with a winter garden of one of the following types:

  • unheated and non-residential gardens of the type of glazed loggias;
  • little landscaped, unheated seasonal residential type, such gardens are designed like verandas;
  • seasonal living quarters with poor landscaping, heated only when necessary;
  • winter residential gardens, heated constantly (except for the summer months), landscaping is plentiful;
  • non-residential premises with strong landscaping, little heated, usually these are greenhouses.

A project with a winter garden can also be distinguished by how integration with a residential building is carried out:

  • integrated gardens, that is, penetrating deep into (usually have a translucent facade on 2-3 sides, a glass roof);
  • attached winter garden, which is adjacent to the common building on one or two sides.

When choosing a project for a house with a winter garden, one should pay attention to the orientation to the cardinal points, which will allow creating an optimal microclimate in living rooms.

Winter garden, greenhouse and greenhouse - similarities and differences

Any host country house dreams that the summer will not end, and that his garden will look blooming and well-groomed all year round. When the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, you can continue the pleasant summer chores if you take care of organizing a winter garden. The green pavilion will become a reliable refuge for plants and a cozy resting place for the family for a long autumn-winter period.

Winter gardens in the modern sense appeared and entered the pier in the country estates of England and France in the middle of the 19th century - when, thanks to technological progress, modern heating and frame structures began to spread widely. Gradually, the buildings began to be divided according to the method of application, and today they are usually divided into three not entirely clear categories:

    Greenhouse. A room that can either adjoin the house or stand separately (and sometimes be located on the roof). The greenhouse, in most cases, focuses on the cultivation of exotic and local flowers, vegetables and fruits. Inside the greenhouse is created artificial ecosystem with specific conditions suitable for plants.

Greenhouse Source yandex.ru

    Greenhouse. A simplified version of the greenhouse. Most often, seedlings and vegetables are grown in the greenhouse, although there are also greenhouses with magnificent collections of orchids or alpine ornamental grasses. It also takes into account the needs of plants, not man; outwardly, the greenhouse looks like a utilitarian building, without a hint of decoration, inexpensive to manufacture and located far from home.

    Winter Garden. Although such a room is created for the maintenance of exotic and heat-loving plants, priority in its arrangement is given to the convenience of people. The winter garden is often (but not always) attached to the house, has an elegant look and is used for family recreation, and often for receiving guests. A well-designed and well-equipped winter garden is not the cheapest pleasure.

Design features

The winter garden is sometimes located separately from the house, but most often it is one with it; in the latter case, the premises make significant adjustments to the design and construction of the house. Buildings are conveniently divided into the following groups:

Buffer room (attachment)

The buffer winter garden is organized as a building adjacent to the house, most often rectangular or corner, although there are other options - square, triangular, semi-oval. Such a room serves as a link between housing and the street; this is the most common arrangement. You can also enter it from two sides and use it not only as a recreation area, but also as a hallway that helps keep the heat in the house.

buffer winter garden Source pinterest.com

A specially erected building, a glazed veranda or terrace can act as a buffer winter garden, if it is insulated and connected to home utility systems. Winter gardens attached to the house are relatively easy and quick to set up, since there is a ready-made wall, and it is not difficult to supply water and electricity from the housing, and arrange heating. Due to the relatively small dimensions, it is not difficult to maintain such a recreation area. The disadvantages are insufficient lighting and poor ventilation; temperature fluctuations will prevent some plants from growing.

Part of a residential building

Placing winter fat in the house can take place in two ways:

    Thinking at the design stage(the best option). This foresight allows minimal cost equip a room with large windows and a translucent roof; it will be comfortable for both the owners and the plants.

    Placed in finished living space. Even if a corner or spacious outer room is allocated for it, adjustments may be required (increase in window openings).

Separate building

This option is practical for large areas; modern technology will allow you to realize your imagination. An elegant transparent building will ennoble the landscape and fit perfectly into any style decision; a round winter garden will look especially good. A sunny place is chosen for construction, the building is reliably insulated, light and water are conducted.

To create a comfortable habitat for plants poorly adapted to the local climate, the room is additionally equipped with special fitolamps. The disadvantage of this design is the cost of its arrangement. The budget will include the supply of communications, the arrangement of the foundation, and in the future - the cost of heating, watering and lighting. It is convenient to connect the house and the winter garden with a path, the arrangement of which will also require investments.

Material selection

The classic winter garden, most in demand in private housing construction, is a glazed structure attached to the house. Most owners consider this option the most convenient for caring for green pets, relaxing and receiving guests. The device of the green pavilion is connected with the solution of several engineering and architectural problems. You will need to correctly attach the room to the wall of a residential building, organize heating and lighting, but you need to start with the choice of materials.

An extension to the house, a winter garden, is a fragile-looking structure, which, however, has many requirements. It must be reliable and stable, withstand gusts of wind and snow drifts, withstand summer overheating and winter hypothermia. frame structure The pavilion is made of the following materials:

    Aluminum profile. The most common frame, lightweight and durable, does not rust and has a long service life. Like all metals, it transmits heat, so it needs thermal protection inserts.

Base metal frame Source artofthehome.com

On our site you can find contacts of construction companies that offer extensions to existing houses. You can directly communicate with representatives by visiting the exhibition of houses "Low-Rise Country".

    Steel. The steel frame is ideal for high bearing loads, but itself has a significant weight, high cost and a tendency to corrosion.

    Wood. Timber is sometimes combined with aluminum or brick. Wood is considered a difficult material for such structures, as it is prone to decay and can change size with temperature and humidity changes. Quality protection and finishing the wooden surface increases the cost of construction.

    Polycarbonate. Usage plastic profile makes the extension lighter and cheaper, it becomes airtight thanks to rubber seals.

    metal-plastic. The frame made of metal-plastic is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, has good heat and sound insulation.

    Glass partitions. Modern solution giving the building a spectacular look. The glass system can be folding, sliding or hinged, in which case it becomes possible to connect the parts of the house into one whole.

The winter garden, the construction of which is glazed almost completely, is a rather complex engineering project. The glazing of the winter garden has many nuances; it is necessary to provide for the possibility of natural ventilation - transoms must be at least 30% of the glazing area. The frame of the winter garden is sheathed with the following materials:

    double glazing. The most practical choice for middle lane Russia, providing economy of heat consumption. Energy-saving double-glazed windows with low-emission glass have proven themselves especially well. The significant weight of PVC bags requires the arrangement of a strong frame.

    Glass(single or double). Standard material for the design of the winter garden, which can withstand significant loads. Cons of use - high price, complex installation and significant heat dissipation.

    Polycarbonate. Lightweight, relatively cheap and resistant to deformation material with high transparency and UV protection (with a special layer). The disadvantage is the high rate of thermal expansion, which is taken into account when drawing up the project.

Design features

Due to its features, the winter garden-extension is an intermediate space between living rooms and the external environment. It is successfully used as a dining room, a living room, a place of relaxation and a year-round source of vitamins. In order for all these functions to be properly performed, the following tasks are solved in the planning process:

    Heating. The premises of the winter garden, attached to a country cottage, can be practically combined with a brownie heating system. The choice of system is influenced by the size of the pavilion, the thermophilicity of plants and the frequency of use. If the garden is an extension of the house, heat must be provided in continuous mode. desired temperature support different ways: using air, water (steam) or furnace heating, floor heating devices. For periodic heating, electric heaters, UFOs and split systems are suitable.

    Electricity. Most green pavilions are connected to the house network; in this case, special attention should be paid to protecting the wiring from greenhouse moisture.

Electric lighting is an important part of comfort Source pinterest.com

    Lighting. Thanks to the transparent walls, the level of natural light is usually sufficient and controlled by awnings and blinds. When the daylight hours decrease and the plants stop getting enough sun, lamps are connected to the matter. Standard energy-saving lamps are not suitable for all plants, so it is better to install phytolamps with a special emission spectrum.

    Watering. If the room is small, you can do with manual watering (and this will give you pleasure). If there are many plants, and the area reaches 10-15 m 2, you will involuntarily think about the design of an irrigation system, possibly automatic. One of the most practical is the drip irrigation system. It uses resources economically, works according to the selected mode and maintains soil moisture at the required level.

    Ventilation. natural ventilation(through the vents) acts to a limited extent, in the presence of a temperature difference; in addition, mosquito nets will be needed to protect against insects. To ventilate the garden with high quality, create a combined supply and exhaust ventilation. Air enters naturally through the vents; for forced ventilation use fans and hoods. The combined system is effective where the natural one does not do well: when strong wind or its absence; cons - electricity consumption and noise during operation.

Design styles

The assortment presented in flower shops allows you to design a winter garden in any style you like, and the process of landscaping your own garden will give you a lot of positive emotions. Popular design options for a winter garden in a private house are as follows:

    Classic style. It is also called English. The design is aimed at creating an elegant and discreet environment in details. In the decoration of the wall common with the house, wooden panels, stucco bas-relief and plaster are used; a glass roof is highly desirable in the design of the pavilion. The atmosphere is complemented by high panoramic windows decorated with stained-glass windows, a bay window, classical statues and a fountain. Tapestry and comfortable furniture antique will complement the image. There are many exotic plants in the garden, palm trees in tubs; large bright flowers stand out against a general green background.

    Japanese style. This option is suitable for fans of eco-design. According to Eastern canons, the presence of stone (or wood), earth and water is mandatory in the decor. Despite the minimalism in details and strict geometric shapes, the pavilion looks picturesque and mysterious; it is decorated with fountains, waterfalls, coniferous and dwarf trees, wicker and lacquered furniture.

    High tech. Decorating in this modern, practical style seems somewhat unusual for a winter garden; nevertheless, it has already managed to win a lot of fans. The pavilion is carried out as functionally as possible; the main thing is space and an abundance of details made of chrome steel, plastic, glass, aluminum. Furniture and lighting fixtures are reminiscent of high technologies. A collection of cacti or other small plants will look especially impressive in such conditions.

About winter garden styles in the following video:

Of course, the winter garden will look the way its owners want. After the premises are ready and the engineering systems are connected, the flight of the owners' imagination comes into play (sometimes skillfully guided by the designer's experience). In order for the green pavilion to please you for many years, you must adhere to some general rules:

    Selection of compatible plants. The glazed pavilion is poorly suited for the simultaneous cultivation of plants from different climatic zones. For the successful growth of tropical, desert or subtropical plants, different temperature conditions and humidity. Reasonable combination is the basis of a beautiful and healthy garden.

    Selection of plants by location. If the winter garden is located on the sunny (south, southeast or southwest) side of the house, it is better to fill it with light-loving plants. It must be remembered that cacti withstand direct sunlight, other plants (palm trees, citrus fruits, hibiscus) should be shaded with blinds or awnings.

Roller blinds help protect flowers Source spb.elektro-karniz.ru

    Space Expansion. A mirror is the easiest and most effective way to visually increase the volume of a room and the number of plants.

    Shading. In hot summer days the temperature under the transparent hood can reach record highs of 80-90 °C. Organizing a winter garden, do not forget about protection from the sun.

    Convenience. The frame for climbing plants is made of wood (they do not like metal); it is most convenient to install it against a mirror wall.

    Zoning. When planning the space, do not forget about a small work table - it will be very useful when transplanting flowers. The table can be faced with natural or artificial stone, thereby organically fitting into the landscape.

    Add-ons. A full-fledged interior helps to create not only furniture, a fountain and various accessories. A fireplace will look especially impressive surrounded by greenery.

Conclusion

An exclusive novelty in suburban housing construction is the arrangement of a winter garden on the roof of a cottage. An unusual solution allows you to give the house an original and attractive look, along the way protecting the residential building from leaks, and you from unnecessary expenses for roof repairs. Work on the design and construction of such a structure should be based on calculations of the allowable loads of housing. They are worth trusting construction organization, whose specialists have specialized work experience and can demonstrate a portfolio with completed orders.

With gratitude to the whole team of the company "Architect"! Having decided to build a house, the construction company was not chosen for a long time, they immediately turned to the "Architect" (25 years on the market !!!). Andrey Salikov, the manager, helped us a lot in choosing a project. He patiently and scrupulously took into account all our wishes, competently explained the technical features of the construction, and offered additional services (taking into account our budget). He gave us hope that everything will be fine. (In the future, at all stages of construction, he kept a "hand on the pulse"). We signed Agreement No. P0104840-IK in November 2017. Construction is scheduled for the end of April. For half a year we were worried about what would happen and how. As it turned out, the unrest was in vain, construction began on the same day as according to the contract. They brought, in stages, the material (all of excellent quality!). I would like to note all the working teams for the efforts of professionalism and knowledge of their business. These are the foundation workers: foreman Alexey, foreman Artem. Carpenters: foreman Kustov Nikolay, foreman Skryabin Ivan (special gratitude for professional skill and organizational skills), Sergey Oleg, Alexey. The house was built a week ahead of schedule. Beautiful, big bright, warm, cozy. How dreamed! From the whole family with respect! Alexander, Ludmila.

We looked at the projects of houses for ourselves for a long time, and for a long time there was not much clarity. They rushed between the house of aerated concrete, frame and even brick. But last option we obviously wouldn’t pull it, and in general, everything is more difficult with money now. So we decided to stop at a frame cottage, especially since now, in my opinion, more and more of these are being built. Specifically, our house is called Karelia-2, and we immediately liked it with a good layout. Plus, there are bay windows, a balcony - and all this gives not only beauty, but also convenient in practice. In addition, if necessary, then it will not be difficult to attach something else to the house. The framework allows this with minimal effort. We immediately discussed the nuances of the order with the managers. For example, he advised to additionally strengthen the foundation due to difficult soils and additionally insulate the floors. So we actually did. The cost of course has grown, but we easily fit into the planned 2 million. But the construction itself went off without too much red tape. Periodically came to watch the work, but even without that everything went fine. They handed over the house to us on time, then they signed everything required documents

Good day! I would like to express my GREAT thanks to the team that built the Karelia-2BK cottage for us (laminated timber). - Sarenkov Ivan Alekseevich - Sarenkov Vasily Alekseevich - Losev Alexander Vladimirovich You can definitely say that you are a master of your craft! Firstly, all the work was done on time and, most importantly, QUALITATIVELY! Secondly, all issues that arose during the construction process were resolved and agreed competently and quickly! They built very carefully, there was no debris and clutter on the site. Thank you very much for your excellent explanations and recommendations during the construction process. And in general, the whole team is just very good, kind, conscientious and decent people! Even during construction it was a pleasure to come to the dacha! I wish everyone that your future home built by professionals! THANKS! Sincerely, Andrey Nikolaevich

The key point in creating a winter garden is, of course, glazing. Glass must be insulated. When designing a roof, its slope plays an important role. Calculate how the sun's rays fall in winter: the roof should be at right angles to them. Then in winter you will be able to collect all the sun's heat, and in summer you will be able to hide from the scorching sun. All year round, your garden will be maintained at an optimal, comfortable temperature.

Add a couple of fresh accents with furniture

Durability

Despite the fact that we are talking primarily about the southern regions with mild winters, still pay attention to the very important point: cheap materials are not even considered here! Glass and moving mechanisms must be of the highest quality if you want to spend time in your conservatory all year round. Why not celebrate the New Year in the winter garden?

Decoration of the winter garden

Of course, the winter garden can be used to store plants in the winter. You can also make a greenhouse out of it, where you can grow your own vegetables all year round. However, let's look at the option where the interior of the winter garden resembles a living room where you can gather with the whole family, enjoy nature and fresh air at any time of the year and in any weather. In the first place - comfort and coziness! Use a convenient upholstered furniture or beautiful garden furniture from rattan. Set up a comfortable table and don't forget the lamps. Thus, sockets will also come in handy for you.
Plants, without a doubt, make up the soul of the winter garden. Fill the room with greenery. The very embodiment of comfort, round full flowering plants, your winter garden will become an oasis where you can fill up with strength for new achievements!

Do you think that the vine is an exclusively summer plant? By no means!
