How to make the Internet speed constant. Browser acceleration mode

  • 24.09.2019

In our today's article, we will talk about how to increase the speed of your Internet connection, for example, Rostelecom, Beeline, Tele2, Yota, ByFly, Megafon or even Megaline Kazakhtelecom. This will help make downloading files, watching videos or playing online games more comfortable. In order to solve the problem at home, there are many options, we will consider them all. Starting from the simplest and as needed, moving on to more effective ones. The instruction provides for increasing the speed with the Internet on a personal computer, laptop or phone.

Before answering the question: how to speed up the Internet, you need to make sure that it is really low. This is where we will begin our step-by-step instructions.

Let's check - is it really that bad?

Checking the network connection speed in Russia and other countries is very simple, for this you can use the well-established website Speedtest.net. We act according to this scheme:

  1. We go to the official page Speedtest.net and press the big yellow button with the inscription "START".

In order for the speed to be displayed as reliably as possible, we recommend that you change the server, indicating the point closest to you. For example, in our case it will be Nikopol.

  1. The analysis itself will begin, the test readings are displayed in real time by an analog arrow. In this case, it is the download speed that is being tested and it is approximately 65 Mbps.

Do not confuse megabits and megabytes - this is completely different indicators. A megabyte is 8 times larger than a megabit, so 100 Mbps is 12.5 Mbps.

  1. When the download performance test is completed, the measurement of the outgoing data upload speed to the network will begin. In our case, it is even higher and is 94 Mbps.

  1. As soon as the measurement is completed, you will see the final results.

In order to understand what Internet speed is considered normal and what it will be enough for, see this table:

Speed Opportunities
Less than 20 Mbps View FullHD video on one channel. Downloading 1 MP3 file - 20 sec. Downloading a movie in average quality is about 3 minutes. Downloading a 4k movie - over 1 hour. Downloading a game like GTA5 will take you over 2 hours.
20 to 40 Mbps View FullHD video on one channel. Downloading 1 MP3 file - 10 s. Downloading a movie in average quality is about 1 minute. Downloading a 4k movie - over 20 minutes. Downloading a game like GTA5 will take you over 1 hour.
40 - 80 Mbps View FullHD video on one channel. Downloading 1 MP3 file - 5 sec. Downloading a movie in average quality is about 1 minute. Downloading a 4k movie takes about half an hour. Downloading a game like GTA5 will take you over 40 minutes.
Over 80 Mbps View FullHD video on one channel. Downloading 1 MP3 file - 1 sec. Downloading a movie in average quality is about 1 minute. Downloading a 4k movie takes about 10 minutes. Downloading a game like GTA5 will take you over 20 minutes of hours.

Summing up, we can say that for comfortable surfing, watching YouTube and online games, 20 Mbps is enough for one person. But sometimes your speed is taken away from you by a hidden "enemy". Who is he and how to find him, we will tell further.

cable test

Before getting upset and running to buy a new router, let's start with the basic one and try to find out if the wired connection of our computer to the repeater or router is OK?

We do this:

  1. If you have a router and the network cable from the PC goes to it, make sure the wire is intact at both ends and try to pull it out and carefully reinsert it until it clicks.
  2. Also check for visual damage on the cable that comes from the street and is inserted into your router.

  1. When the cable is inserted into the network card of the computer, two green and red LEDs should light up or blink near its socket. This indicates the health of all cords.

So, the wires are all in place and connected securely. So, let's move on and start improving our connection.

Router setup

This section is suitable for those who use a router to connect to the network. If your PC is connected to the Internet through a cable that goes directly outside the window, skip this part of the instructions.

The easiest way is to reboot our router. There is a special button for this. But it does not just reboot, but returns the device to factory settings. It is worth using it when a simple on - off does not help. You can press the button, for example, with a needle.

Using the power button, you can turn off and then turn on our router without returning its settings to the original ones.

Sometimes there is no such button either, in which case you just need to unplug the device from the network, wait a couple of minutes and turn it on again.

If this did not solve the problem of low Internet access speed, proceed to the next method.

Reset to factory settings

You can also reset your router to factory settings through the control panel. To access it, you need to open a browser on a PC connected to this gadget and enter “192.168.0.0” or “192.168.0.1” in its address bar.

In some cases, the address may differ, you can find it on the official website of the device or on reverse side router case.

  1. Enter your username and password from your admin panel, then click the login button.

Attention: this instruction is shown on the example of a TP-Link router, in your case everything may look a little different.

  1. You can find out the login and password, as we have already said, on the back of the device case. However, if it was purchased from the hands and the owner changed the login data, you need to find out from him.

  1. When we find ourselves in the control panel of the router, go to the system settings section and select the button to restore the parameters to the original ones.

Signal conflict and channel change

Sometimes, another device may operate on the same frequency as your router. It can be a neighbor's router (or even several at once), your phone, a video camera, and anything else. In this case, a conflict arises, which we will now resolve.

Again we go to the control panel of our router (we wrote about how to do this in the previous section). Open network settings and select wireless networks. Here you can set the type of network, its range, channel number and its width. Experiment with the settings, saving them each time and checking the speed through Speedtest.net. It is important to remember how everything was originally here, so that in which case you can return everything back.

In new routers, conflict situations are not so common, but the problem described below is very common in almost every second home.

Correct Distance

The speed of connecting to the network is affected by 2 factors: the remoteness of devices and the presence of barriers between them. For example, a PC in the same room as a router can have perfect WAN connection and speed. But the laptop on the second floor is separated from the router by a wall, floor and is, moreover, at a considerable distance. To him cover wireless network may be missing altogether.

This issue can be resolved using one of the following methods:

  • Buying a new, more powerful router.
  • Using an intermediate access point (you also need to buy).
  • Move laptop/PC closer to wireless network source.
  • Transferring the router itself to the center of the living quarters.
  • Connecting a laptop / PC and a router with a cable.
  • Installation of a homemade antenna.

If all the methods described above are clear, then the last one, involving a home-made antenna, we will highlight below.

Flashing the router

There is another option that may seem complicated and dangerous. But this is far from the case, let's say more - in the process of writing this article for you, we independently reflashed our router, although there was no need for this. Updating the software (firmware) of any devices is always useful, this leads to the stability of their work, and in our case it can increase the speed of access to the Internet.

  1. We go to the official website of the manufacturer of our router. For example, if we have TP-Link, go to tp-link.com. Accordingly, for each model, the address will be different. We are interested in the support section.

  1. We go to the admin panel of our router and look at its model.

Attention: accurately copy the model of your device, making a mistake in at least one digit, you can ruin it by flashing it!

  1. In the model search field, enter our version and then press the button with the image of a magnifying glass.

  1. Our device will find, click on the picture that appears.

  1. Next, click on support.

  1. Specify the revision of the device.

  1. We choose the option we are interested in.

  1. We download software.

  1. In our case, the file was downloaded in a ZIP archive. If you have the same, unpack it, you need the binary for the firmware.

  1. Select the firmware file and click the update button.

  1. The update process itself will take about 5 seconds.

Ready. Our TP-Link software has been updated to latest version.

Additional antenna

You can strengthen the signal of our router and increase the speed of the Internet using a simple design in the form of a homemade external antenna. From the picture below, you can understand how to make it.

The frame itself must be made of a non-conductive material such as cardboard, plywood, or plastic. You can cut it out with scissors. Tubes should be cut from aluminum or copper wire.

The long end of the antenna is directed towards the remote PC.

Device replacement

And finally, if no manipulation of the router helps, you can simply go ahead and replace it with a new one. Today, such devices are quite inexpensive and for about 600 r you can buy a long-range three-antenna router in a new condition.

Tariff and traffic check

Sometimes operators simply limit the speed of connection to the network, as you either exhausted all packet traffic, or simply forgot to pay for it. Go to your provider's personal account and make sure that access is paid and the tariff is not limited.

Checking PC for viruses

Sometimes the quality of your internet can suffer greatly due to malware activity. Such programs are able to work for an attacker, constantly transmitting data to the network. It is this transfer that “steals” not only your data, but also part of the traffic.

Let's see how to deal with it:

The instructions that we offer you are shown using the standard Windows 10 antivirus as an example. Everything happens in a similar way with other programs.

  1. Open Windows Defender and click on the tile below.

  1. We start scanning the system.

  1. It is important to choose the full option and check the operating system completely.

  1. The process of scanning for viruses will begin, which can take quite a long time. We are waiting for its completion.

  1. Download the utility on its official website. Installation is not required here, so just run AdwCleaner as an administrator and accept its license agreement.

  1. Click the big button marked in the screenshot below.

  1. We are waiting for the completion of the analysis.

  1. As you can see, unwanted software has been found. It is the dubious uBar torrent client. It is he who most likely "steals" the speed of the network. Click the virus removal button.

  1. We save all the data, close the programs and click on the button to restart the PC.

  1. When your computer restarts, the program will prompt you to view a report on its work.

  1. It displays the full path to the remote threat and the further course of events.

So, we have cleaned the viruses, we also need to take care of the browser.

Browser cleaning

As you know, malicious software can "settle" in your browser. These are the so-called panels and searches with home pages, which not only make the browser "heavy", but also use part of the traffic, slowing down our access to the network.

Checking add-ons

First of all, you should look at the extensions available in the browser in order to determine if there is anything superfluous there and increase the speed of the Internet.

Let's see how this is done using Google Chrome as an example:

  1. We click on the menu icon (indicated by the number "1") and in the drop-down list select "Additional tools", and then "Extensions".

  1. In the menu that opens, we look at the available add-ons and, if necessary, delete everything that we do not know or do not need. Only plugins used for their intended purpose should remain here.

Analyzing installed software

You also need to “look” into the list of installed software. It happens that, imperceptibly for you, a small utility is installed in the OS, which just clogs the code of our browser.

We do the following:

  1. Using the search "Windows", open the control panel.

  1. Select the item below.

If your control panel looks different, then switch the display mode to "Category".

  1. View the list of installed software. If there is something unknown or suspicious here, right-click on the name of the program and delete it. You need to be guided by the following principle - everything that I do not use, I delete.

Let's consider one more variant of where malicious software can register itself.

Edit launch shortcut

We removed the program that attacked our browser, but sometimes it is able to modify the browser launch shortcut by inserting its own parameter into it.

You can remove it like this:

  1. Using the search bar, we find the browser (in our case, this is the same Google Chrome) and open the file location.

  1. Right click on the launcher shortcut and select "Properties".

  1. In the window that opens, look at the field marked with an arrow, and make sure that nothing superfluous is written after the browser name. If so, remove everything up to the quotes and click OK.

Working with hosts

Very often, viruses modify this system file and add their addresses to it, blocking the original ones. Let's see how to fix it:

  1. First you need to run notepad as administrator. The file that we will open is a system file, therefore, without superuser authority, access to it will not work. We press the search icon, write “Notepad” there and right-click on the desired result, selecting the item marked with the number “4”.

  1. When Notepad opens, click "File" - "Open ...".

  1. Go to the path shown below and switch the display mode for all files. By default, there is only a text document here.
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

  1. Select the hosts file and click the "Open" button.

  1. The original hosts should look like in the screenshot, all unnecessary must be removed.

  1. Don't forget to save changes.

Third party software

You can also use a handy tool called Malwarebytes to look for malware.

  1. First, go to the official website of the program and download it from there. Then install our antivirus and run it by clicking the "Run scan" button.

  1. We are waiting for the end of the PC scan.

  1. In our case, several threats were found at once. While the system was protected by regular antivirus. And all the problems were really relevant. Click the cleanup button.

Disk, cache and registry cleanup

Sometimes the computer just starts to “slow down” due to the huge number of unnecessary files. which have accumulated over a long period of time. From this, the speed of connecting to the network also sags. That is why, in order to speed up the Internet, we need to clean the PC from junk files.

We follow our instructions:

  1. We will use The best decision for complex cleaning of the computer from various kinds of temporary files and other objects that slow down its work. You can download on our website. When the download is complete, proceed with the installation. At the very beginning of the process, you should select the Russian language.

  1. When the installation is completed, run the program and go to the "Cleaning" tab. Here you should click the "Analyze" button.

  1. The process of searching for "junk" files will begin. We just need to wait for it to finish.

  1. To completely clean browsers when scanning, they must be closed. The “smart” utility will notify us of this.

  1. As soon as the check is completed, we proceed to the cleaning. To do this, simply click on the button marked with a red frame.

  1. The process of deleting unnecessary data will take only a few tens of seconds.

  1. The next step is to optimize the Windows registry. Here, too, errors can lurk that contribute to a decrease in the speed of access to the network. Therefore, we go to the "Registry" tab and start searching for its problems.

  1. We are waiting for the end of the scan.

  1. Click on the indicated button.

  1. Next, we will see a proposal to fix all the errors found at once. Click the "Fix Marked" button.

  1. CCleaner also allows you to clean startup. This moment is very important. After all, any third-party software, loaded with Windows, starts checking for new versions, downloading them, etc. This leads to a significant loss of speed and traffic. To fix the problem, go to the "Service" tab, select "Startup", select the program that you want to remove, then press the button marked with the number "4".

In order for the changes to take effect, you must restart your PC or laptop.

Website problems

Before repairing your computer and trying to speed up your slow ADSL network, make sure that the site you want to visit is not itself the culprit of this problem. To evaluate the loading of any resource, we can use a convenient and functional tool from Google. Just enter a link to the site in a single field and click the "Analyze" button.

Attention: the speed of the Internet may be less than declared and due to the fault of the providers themselves.

Accelerator programs

You can speed up access to the network in a fully automatic mode. Many applications have been created for this, the best of which we will briefly describe below.

Throttle

An application that practically does not require any participation from you. User actions are reduced only to installation, launch and pre-configuration. By choosing one of the profiles, the program independently selects the optimal settings for the operating system.

Some Windows registry keys are being adjusted to help better download data packages from the network. Almost all types of connection are supported and many different popular types of equipment (for example, a modem or wired Internet). Trial version This software can be downloaded for free on its official website.

Another useful tool which is best for inexperienced users. As in the previous case, all you need to do is choose one of the available profiles, which, by the way, is enough for any situation.

But there are also a number of additional settings that are suitable for people who are good friends with a PC. Thanks to these parameters, you can get much more benefit from the program than on standard profiles. You can download DSL Speed on its official website.

The application is very similar to the ones we described before, except that there is a functionality to show detailed information on the network used. You can also at any time roll back the settings that led to a decrease in the connection speed. Initially, you should test the profiles that are configured here by default. You can download the utility from its home page.

The program contains all the functions for automatic network configuration, its user settings or displaying information about the current connection. There is also one distinctive feature that was not in our previous applications. This is the ability to activate safe mode, which will not be easy to increase the speed of your network connection, but also to protect your surfing in a quality manner. You can always download the trial version on the official website of this product.

The last app on our list that can improve your internet speed. It features a convenient and practical user interface, displaying basic information about the network and recording all events in a special file, from which they can then be read. You can download the latest version of this tool from its home page.

You can increase the download speed in the torrent client or Steam by removing the restrictions on downloading data.

Browser acceleration mode

If you are using a slow Internet connection, the speed of which is limited by the provider itself, there is no way to increase it. But we can do otherwise - take advantage of the acceleration to the maximum provided by some browsers.

Since pictures and text in uncompressed form have a certain size, by passing the entire stream through a special server, they can be compressed almost several times. This is exactly what Yandex.Browser does by compressing all the traffic you need and delivering it in an already lightweight form. As a result, all web pages will load 2 or even more times faster. This will not affect the download speed of files.

In order to use the function, simply open the menu of this browser by pressing the button marked with the number "1" and select the activation of the special mode. It is disabled by default.

Traffic consumption tracking

If you have a more or less normal network access channel, but it is not enough, then some application is consuming our traffic. Therefore, you need to find out who is doing this and fix the problem.

We take the following steps:

  1. We launch the task manager by right-clicking on an empty spot on the taskbar and selecting the desired item from the context menu.

You can also launch the task manager using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Esc .

  1. Switch to the Processes tab and sort the content by network usage. As you can see, at the moment the qBittorrent application consumes about 60% of the total performance of our channel.

We showed the torrent client just for the sake of an example, in your case, the search should be limited to software that arbitrarily sends or receives data from the network.

  1. Next, you need to find out where this program is located. To do this, right-click on the desired entry and select the "Open file location" item from the context menu.

  1. We will get to the directory containing the executable file of the application that "steals" our traffic. It remains only to remove it.

Attention: if the file is not deleted, first complete its process and try again.

Upon completion of this procedure, it is advisable to restart the PC and check if the problem is gone.

Disabling automatic updates

Also, if the network connection is slow, you can use the shutdown procedure automatic updates Windows. We wrote in detail about how this is done in a separate article. Instructions for, method for and option for.

Change the value for the reserve bandwidth

There is another way to increase the speed of the Internet, we would say the most elegant way to speed up our access to the network. This is work with the local group policy editor. Do everything exactly as shown in step by step instructions below:

  1. First, using the "Run" utility, launch the editor itself. To do this, press Win + R and in the window that opens, enter the command "gpedit.msc". Then click "OK".

  1. Expand the computer configuration branch and select the "Administrative Templates" item in the tree that opens. In the right part of the window, double-left click on the "Network" directory.

  1. Go to the section labeled "1" and open a document called "Limit Reserved Bandwidth".

  1. The trigger, indicated by the number "1", is switched to the on position and the limit is set to zero. Confirm the changes by clicking on the "OK" button.

  1. In addition, we should also increase the port speed. Let's open the control panel. Since we are using Windows 10, we need to do this by entering the name of the program in the search bar.

  1. Once the Control Panel starts up, go to the System and Security menu. If everything looks different for you, change the view to "Category".

  1. Click on the link provided below.

  1. We launch the device manager.

  1. Expand the ports item, select the serial or other port through which your Internet is connected, then go to the "Port Settings" tab and set the desired value. Don't forget to confirm your changes by clicking OK.

After that, you should restart your computer and test the network again.

Computer improvement

Sometimes an image on YouTube or an online game can “slow down” and take a long time to load even with 100 Mbps internet. It's all about the lack of PC performance. And here a number of special tips will help you, although they may seem too radical to some, but there are simply no other options:

  • Choose another, less "heavy" online game or use the lightweight Palemoon browser.
  • Switch video display to lower quality. Some CPUs just aren't enough for smooth 1080i rendering.
  • Computer update. It can be partial, such as simply replacing the CPU, adding RAM, etc., or complete, such as buying a new PC.

We improve the Internet on the phone

But what about those who want to speed up the Internet on their smartphone? We'll give you a couple useful tips. We want to immediately please the owners of Android and slightly upset the admirers of Apple products - if the situation on the green robot can still be helped, then on the iPhone, due to the closed operating system from Apple, things are much more complicated.

Android

For this OS, there are immediately 2 options for optimizing the speed of access to the network. We will consider them below. There are also other ways, but they provide, so they were not included in our review.

Through developer mode

This algorithm does not work on all firmware, however, it is definitely worth a try.

Our further instructions are based on the example of a Xiaomi Redmi note 4x smartphone and an MTS 3G / 4G operator, so everything may be a little different on other models:

  1. We turn to the settings of the device, for example, by lowering the curtain and tapping on the gear icon.

  1. Click the "About phone" item.

  1. Since we have MIUI 9 firmware installed, to enter the developer mode, we need to tap on its version several times. In other Androids, we click on the build number.

  1. After a couple of seconds, you will receive a message that you have successfully obtained developer rights. In our case, they already were.

  1. Next, move on to advanced settings.

  1. And tap on the developer menu.

  1. We need to activate the mobile internet shutdown prohibition trigger. It is he who should speed up the exchange with the network. After all, it is the constant switching on and off, designed to save energy, that leads to an unstable connection.

Using browser compression

The Google Chrome mobile browser has a handy feature similar to the one we looked at on a PC in Yandex.Browser. It turns on like this:

  1. We launch the browser itself.

  1. Tap on the icon with the image of three dots (located in the upper right part of the window) and select the settings item from the menu that opens.

  1. Next, click on the item below.

  1. Activate the compression trigger. The percentage of savings will also be displayed here. Use your browser and visit this section again, you will see for yourself how much less data had to be downloaded.

There is a similar mode in some other mobile browsers. The instruction also works on any mobile operators, for example, Tattelecom, Bashinformsvyaz or Ufanet.

iOS

On this mobile operating system, we can also use the minimum savings mode in the browser. Of the other options, it should be noted: get closer to the router or drive closer to the base station. This is an iPhone or iPad, there is nothing superfluous (a smile in this place).

Video instruction

In order to deal with the issue in more detail, we recommend that you take a look at the video that we have prepared for you. In it, the author describes all available ways to increase internet speed.

Conclusion

This concludes our guide. We hope it turned out to be useful for you and the question: how to speed up the Internet is resolved at least to some extent. If you still have questions, ask them in the comments. And we will try to give a clear answer in any situation as soon as possible.

Are you satisfied with the speed of your Internet connection? Do you know that by changing just one parameter, you can speed up the Internet, that is, increase the connection bandwidth by 20 percent?

A long time ago, when the Windows XP operating system was installed on most users' computers, and only a small part of the lucky ones had high-speed Internet, this method allowed the user (for example, me personally), though not by much, but to increase.

Today, when in big cities you can’t surprise anyone with super speeds and basically the only question before the user is how much to pay for the Internet (the more expensive the faster), this method will not give a tangible acceleration. But in villages and small towns, where it is problematic to get high speed, even these cut 20% will come in handy.

By default, in Windows 7, the QoS packet scheduler limits the reservation to twenty percent of the bandwidth of an Internet connection. Therefore, if we change this parameter in the QoS settings, we can accordingly increase or decrease the bandwidth reserved by all programs that run on the computer.

On many sites there is information that changing this parameter does not affect the Internet connection in any way, but in my case, according to the tests, changing it still leads to an increase in speed. See for yourself (the difference is approximately 3 Mbps in receive and 0.15 Mbps in transmission).

Now let's proceed directly to setting up the package scheduler in the Windows 7 operating system. Open the browser, go to the site:

http://www.speedtest.net/ru

and measure the speed before changing the settings. After that, launch the Local Group Policy Editor. Using the keyboard shortcut Win + R, open the system utility "Run", where in the "Open" field we write "gpedit.msc" and click the "OK" button, thereby launching the "Local Group Policy Editor".

HOW TO SPEED UP THE INTERNET

Go to "Administrative Templates" - "Network" - "QoS Packet Scheduler" and double-click on "Limit Reserved Bandwidth".

We put a mark on the “Enable” position, in the “Parameters” window we replace the value of 20% with 0%, click the “Apply” and “OK” buttons.

Now you have learned how to speed up the Internet. Again, we measure and see what happens. How has your internet connection speed changed? Please share information in the comments.

The speed of the Internet almost never corresponds to the parameters stated in the provider's tariff. Many third-party factors affect the decrease in data transfer speed over the network, some of which can be neutralized on your own.

The speed of the Internet connection depends on the conditions of connection of the tariff plan, the operation of the equipment and receiver devices.

Why is the data transfer over the network lower than specified in the tariff plan.

Provider problems

When connecting an Internet cable directly to a device (computer/laptop/Smart TV), the connection speed is controlled directly by the provider's equipment. Therefore, the parameters specified in the tariff must completely match or slightly differ from the data (for example, if the declared speed is 100 Mb / s, the client receives 80-100 Mb / s).

If browser pages load slower than usual, the problem is directly with the communication company.

Connection via Wi-fi router

Unlike connecting a cable directly, a router acts as an intermediary in data transfer. When processing and transmitting data to them, the overall speed indicator is lost.

The more powerful the router, the faster it processes and relays the signal. But the speed in any case falls by half/third of the total flow.

Abnormal operation of receiver devices

Sometimes the speed of the Internet connection is not related to the operation of the provider or equipment. The reason is in slow work receiver device - computer, laptop, phone.

The problem lies in the overcrowded random access memory gadget, in large numbers open applications or programs that in the background receive information from the network.

How to check internet speed on a Windows 7 computer?

The specified method is suitable for monitoring the speed indicator on versions of Windows 7, 8 and 10:

A more popular verification method is the Internetometer service from Yandex with simple functionality:

Another well-known speed test service without leaving the browser is the international Speedtest resource. More details about working with it are shown in the video.

How to increase the speed of the Internet through a Wi-fi router?

Sometimes a reboot is required to restore normal operation of the router. To do this, turn off the electronic device from the network for a couple of minutes. When switching on again, you can press the "Reset" key (reset parameters).

If this does not help, try changing the range of the router. Sometimes it coincides with the frequency of other radio devices in the room - a wireless camera, telephone, etc. the standard value is 2.4 GHz. Some modern models can be switched to 5 GHz.

Check what percentage of the return power is set in the router settings - it may have been initially programmed for inferior work:

The setup data is based on the Asus RT-N12E router model. Depending on the manufacturer or model, the settings of other routers may vary.

How to increase the speed of the Internet on a computer or mobile device?

Later versions of the Windows operating system automatically set a speed limit. By removing it, you can achieve faster data transfer:

Save the new settings and reboot your device.

It would be useful to check the Task Manager for the presence of background applications. Some of them use networks to maintain their health, selecting the traffic they need elsewhere:

Important! In some types of operating network, you must additionally click "Processes" and then "Network" in the window that appears before the list appears.

Close those programs that usually use the Internet and do not need it at the moment. If you are in doubt about how closing a program will affect the operation of your computer or your further work behind the device, it is better to leave it on.

phone speed up

Cleaning up unnecessary files and clearing the cache will help speed up the work in Internet applications on your phone. To do this, you need to download the free application CC-Cleaner or CleanMaster - the programs are similar to each other.

Both applications have an intuitive interface, understandable from the first opening. With their help, you can perform the following actions:

  • scanning the device for garbage;
  • fast cleaning;
  • deep cleaning of the device;
  • cache cleaning.

In addition, to unload the work of a smartphone for accelerated processing of the worldwide network, closing background applications allows.

How to improve internet speed with software?

The Auslogics BoostSpeed computer extension further speeds up the throughput of the device on which it is installed. The free version can be downloaded from the Internet - installation is performed in the standard way.

After restarting Windows, the Internet on your device should start to work faster.

Periodic computer hygiene will allow you to constantly maintain the optimal bandwidth of the device and the normal speed of the Internet.

Checking Connected Devices

The Internet is slower if several devices are connected to it at once (laptops, tablets, smartphones).

Especially a lot of traffic is needed for those who constantly download media files (video, audio, images).

Regular antivirus check

The overall speed of the device directly affects its performance with Internet applications. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically (preferably once a week) check the system for malicious virus programs.

Remove extra toolbars

Often, browsers accumulate a lot of unnecessary functions, buttons, transitions that overload its work and affect the work of web pages.

Unnecessary hotkeys and browser extensions are recommended to be deleted.

Clearing browser cache

Cache is the conditional memory of the browser, which accumulates the remnants of downloaded pages, files, applications. Cache full gets in the way full-fledged work online, so don't forget to clean it.

Disabling background apps

Some extensions that are necessary to bypass various blockings (for example, VPN) are best disabled during off-hours. They take away the extra traffic.

Browser change

Some browser add-ons are difficult or impossible to uninstall, which is why it starts to slow down over time, regardless of clearing the cache and other actions.

Just remove it and replace it with a new one. Moreover, the diversity allows: Google Chrome, Yandex, Opera, Mozilla Firefox.

Video - How to increase Internet speed

The performance of a computer depends on its characteristics and the speed of the Internet. Its value affects the time of opening pages, downloading information from sites. To understand how to increase the speed of the Internet, you need to clearly understand the whole complex technical means and programs that affect the bandwidth of the signal receiving channel. The main influencing factors are the maximum speed provided by the provider, the length of the cables before and after the router, its bandwidth, the characteristics and programs of your computer.

Checking the connection speed and network status

Before starting connection speed tests, you need to find out the characteristics of receiving and transmitting information provided by your provider under the tariff plan. These values are indicated in the contract for the provision of information services, or are located on the provider's website on the page describing the characteristics of different tariffs. Please note that sending information to the network is faster than downloading. Provider companies in the tariff plans indicate the maximum value of these two data.

Internet connection speed testing

by the most in a simple way Checking the speed of the connection is the use of special programs and sites. One of the most common is the speed test site speedtest.net. When you open the page at this address, a window appears on the screen with the button "Begin test". After pressing this button, the site initiates sending a ping (ping signal) to the server closest to you and measures the speed of transmitting and receiving a signal from the server. By clicking on the picture in the form of a prism in the center of the screen, the test can be repeated with a change in the control server.

Rebooting the Router

A frequent violation of signal reception is a failure in the protocols of routers (or routers). Such an effect can appear in the event of a short-term disruption of contact or the influence of some external electromagnetic interference on the information transmission channel. To solve this problem, you need to briefly turn off the router. After turning it on and establishing a connection with the server, the connection can be restored.

Conflicting Signals

If you use Wi-Fi to receive the signal, be aware that you may be delayed in receiving information due to other wireless networks and routers nearby. Most older routers operate on the 2.4 GHz transmission frequency. More modern routers use the 5 GHz channel. At the same time, the channel for receiving and transmitting information on the air is used in turn by all routers whose coverage areas are near you. An increase in Internet speed in such a situation is possible only by purchasing a new router with a 5 GHz channel.

How to increase internet speed

There are several ways to add internet speed to your computer. If you try to load a site you frequently use in different browsers, you will notice differences in loading. The fastest by far are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Yandex.Browser. The last two have a turbo boost mode for loading sites on a slow connection. Network speed may vary depending on the traffic-consuming software that is installed on your computer.

Checking your computer for viruses

One of the most malicious programs are viruses. These are programs that are designed specifically to create problems, big and small, in the operation of personal computer software. Many of them have the ability to steal saved logins and passwords from websites and financial applications from the computer's memory. You can get virus programs when downloading information from the network, viewing photo and video content from unfamiliar sites, receiving and reading letters received from unreliable sources.

Removing malware or adware

Computer software is protected by anti-virus programs, whose task is to detect attempts to intrude into a computer, determine the type of virus, and create obstacles to infecting it. Companies producing anti-virus programs collect, study all viruses on the network, create ways to deal with them. The most famous are the antiviruses of Kaspersky Lab, Dr.Web, ESET NOD 32, 360 Total Security.

Browser update

Regularly updating all software can significantly affect the speed of your computer. This applies to the operating system, video plugins, browser updates. The performance of different versions of browsers is different for each operating system. It is worth trying and choosing a fast browser for your computer. While browsing the web, users find interesting web resources and save them as Bookmarks. When updating browsers, all basic user settings, saved logins, passwords, bookmarks are saved.

Hard drive cleaning

The speed of receiving and saving information from the network depends on the speed of writing and reading your hard drive- Winchester. Service files may remain on it, the removal of which requires optimization and disk cleanup. The system utilities have a defragmentation function, the regular execution of which can organize the location of files on the disk. This utility collects pieces of files all over the disk and makes whole fragments from them, then whole files are assembled from fragments.

Cache optimization

Modern operating systems to speed up the work of programs frequently used by the user load them into the cache. The browser cache is a reserved portion of RAM or hard drive memory. Browsers are recommended to use the average value, which is suitable for most running programs. It makes sense to reduce the cache size in the browser settings only when performing the same type of operations on the computer.

Disabling unnecessary programs that consume traffic

If you open the Settings->Network and Internet->Data usage->Usage details tab in Windows 10, the user will be able to assess which applications are actively consuming data. To speed up the work, these programs can be disabled, limit their automatic updates. If the Internet is slow, you can limit the download of updates and the consumption of traffic by the system itself by setting the limited connection type: Settings-> Network and Internet -> Wi-Fi-> Advanced settings-> set as a limited connection.

Changing the channel of the Wi-Fi router

Wireless connections on cheap routers for the mass consumer, they operate in the 2.4 GHz band at maximum frequencies up to 300 Mbps. At the same time, the nominal speed is reduced by 2-3 times due to settings and other factors. If there are conflicting WiFi signals, it is worth purchasing routers or repeaters that work with WiFi protocols: 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, which have speeds up to 1000 Mbps, automatic switching between 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz frequency bands. High-quality WiFi signal transmission equipment is produced by ASUS, Totolink, Netgear.

How to speed up the Internet in Windows 7, 8 and 10

To speed up work in Windows, the following manipulations with the operating system and additional programs can help:

  • removal of restrictions on the bandwidth of the network connection;
  • configuring reserved bandwidth;
  • optimization of equipment operation;
  • Internet acceleration by choosing a fast DNS server;
  • use of programs to speed up the connection;
  • installing the TCP Optimizer utility;
  • launching the Internet Speed Booster application;
  • using the Proximodo program.

Increasing network bandwidth

In order to improve the Internet connection due to the settings in the network connection bandwidth, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Open Computer Properties->Hardware Tab->Device Manager.
  2. Find the item Ports, press the down arrow.
  3. Select the item Serial port (COM1), open its properties.
  4. Select the port settings item and set the speed higher than the specified one.
  5. Press the OK button.

Configuring Reserved Bandwidth

The Windows operating system has a QoS Reserved Bandwidth Limit Internet bandwidth reservation system, which specifically limits your traffic for its service applications. The width of this channel is about 20 percent of the maximum speed. To reduce the ability of the QoS packet scheduler to limit the rate, it is necessary to reduce the reserved channel width in Windows to zero and receive all 100% of the traffic. It is worth doing the following:

  • Start->Run, type the word regedit, press the Enter key.
  • In the registry editor, go to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft.
  • Create a new key (Key) named Psched.
  • Create a new DWORD value and name it NonBestEffortLimit.
  • To disable channel reservation, set the NonBestEffortLimit key to 0.

How to increase the speed of home Internet by optimizing the operation of equipment

The speed of loading files and pages in the browser depends on many factors - the performance of the equipment and its settings. When checking the entire system for obtaining information, you should carefully consider the revision of all possible nodes that can affect the speed. When using satellite Internet, the connection is affected by wind, snow, rain, and other meteorological phenomena. In order to speed up the Internet on a computer, it is necessary to optimize the operation of the entire provider-browser system, check the quality and settings:

  • network cables;
  • router (router);
  • network cards;
  • Internet connection settings, DNS server selection;
  • install special programs to increase speed.

Network cables

Connection performance may be affected by network cables. For this purpose, twisted pair is used. Wiring home internet produced from the roof of a house or attic. Network cable length from junction box provider to your router should not exceed 50 m. mechanical damage cable and the presence of power wires and cables passing next to it, capable of inducing strong electromagnetic fields. When using wired Internet, the distance from the router to the computer should be no more than 10 m.

Router optimization

You should start configuring the router by determining its model and version number. On the manufacturer's website in the support section, select your model, download the router firmware update. You will need to find the router's default gateway or IP address in order to access the router's web interface:

  • From the Start menu, type cmd in the search box, at the command prompt, type ip/config/all.
  • Enter the default gateway or IP address in the address bar of your browser. Press Enter, the web interface will appear in the web browser window.
  • The option to update the router will be in the Administration section with the name Update or Upgrade firmware.
  • Locate the firmware update file you just downloaded.
  • Click Update, wait for the firmware update process to complete.

Most people surf the net in search of multimedia files. To speed up this process, an additional Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) standard has been developed. Users must check the box "WMM Enable" in the router settings. You should activate this function if you want to use the Internet without restrictions, and this is provided for by your tariff plan.

operating system Windows settings network interface for Internet access are automatically selected by default. A configuration with several network interfaces such as network cards is often used - several network cards are used simultaneously to connect to the Internet, to a local network, use WiFi. To tell the system which interface to use and for what purposes, you must turn off automatic route discovery. To do this, each protocol must specify its own interface:

  1. Open Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center.
  2. We find the Internet connection interface in the list, select Properties.
  3. Select the Properties of the Internet Protocol version 4 we need.
  4. On the "Advanced" tab, uncheck the Automatic metric assignment and set the serial number of the interface that will be selected for network requests, and more specifically for the Internet.
  5. We perform a similar operation for all interfaces in ascending order.

Internet acceleration when choosing a DNS server

The speed at which sites load and download files depends on the DNS server that your computer accesses first. By checking the speed on the site speedtest.net, it is possible to change the server and notice the difference in the speed of receiving information. Most ISPs recommend that you set the TCP protocol settings to automatic DNS detection. It is not always the fastest server. To select a fast DNS server, use the DNSBench program found at https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm.

After downloading and running the program, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Switch to the Nameservers tab, click the Add/Remove button.
  2. Press the bottom button Build custom Nameserver List.
  3. Switch to the Response Time tab, click the Run Benchmark button.
  4. A window with multiple servers will open. The fastest will be at the top of the list. Select it and prescribe IP in the TCP settings.
  5. Check your browser. If the download speed has not increased, you can roll back the changes.

Program to increase the speed of the Internet

To speed up the connection by optimizing system settings, use the AdvancedSystemCare program. To configure and redistribute traffic between protocols and applications, be sure to install FosSpeed. Combine different programs, methods, utilities. Most programs to improve computer performance, accelerator services for desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices are free, downloaded online from software developers' websites.

TCP Optimizer utility

The capabilities of the computer when using the standard settings of the operating system and browser are not fully used. The operating system reserves part of the capacity for its service applications, Windows updates, and other cases. The TCP Optimizer utility will enable automatic tuning best conditions connections through:

  • reset TCP / IP and Winsock;
  • choosing default network settings;
  • automatic calculation of optimal network parameters;
  • ping and trace route to nodes in the network;
  • calculation of the maximum transmitted packet (MTU);
  • calculation of RWIN/BDP parameters, packet delay time;
  • configuring network settings through the system registry.

Optimizing the connection is possible using the Internet Speed Booster application. These are three utilities that provide:

  • checking connection speed, ping, host;
  • optimization of Windows modem and network settings;
  • preventing file fragmentation;
  • scheduling automatic RAM optimization;
  • protection against threats on the Internet;
  • setting up the Windows Registry to increase the speed of information exchange on the network;
  • support for all types of connections: Dial-Up, LAN, ISDN, cable;
  • simple help files;
  • supported OS: Windows 8.1, 8, 10, Vista, 7, XP, bit depth: 64 bit, x86, 32 bit.

Proximodo Program

Loading a site is accompanied not only by pure html code, but also by hidden tags or javascript programs, URL masking, pop-up messages, etc. The Proximodo program is capable of acting as an intermediary between a website and your computer's browser. By adding exceptions in this program, you can change the settings, remove everything that slows down the site:

  • advertising banners;
  • delete cookies when closing the browser;
  • enable caching for fast page navigation.

What gets on your nerves more than? Perhaps only the "turtle" Internet! Tired of looking at the endless rotation of the cursor while waiting for the site to open? Or wait forever for the file to load? If so, it's time to act.

This article is for those who value their time and preserve their peace of mind. Read how to increase the speed of the Internet in all possible ways. Spend half an hour once and this problem will never bother you again. And if it happens again, you will know how to solve it.

How to increase internet speed

Is your plan right for you?

The first Internet bandwidth limiter is your ISP. It is he who sets the upper speed limit, which you cannot bypass. More precisely, you can, but for an additional amount.

To find out if the real Internet speed matches the one you pay for, go to any test site, for example, Speedtest.net or, and take measurements. To get the most reliable indicator, close VPN applications and browser proxy extensions (if you use them), and also disconnect other traffic consumers (computers, phones, TV, etc.) from the network.

If the result is not much different from the declared one, then the Internet is slowing down due to the fact that the line bandwidth is too small for your needs. The solution is to change the tariff to a faster one. Don't want to overpay? Take a look at offers from other providers.

If the speed is 30-50% lower than prescribed in the contract, then the reason is not in the tariff plan. Short-term delays during the daytime are the norm, and constant ones, especially at night when the line is not loaded, are a reason to call technical support.

In some cases, the speed decreases when a certain traffic threshold is reached (this should be mentioned in the description of the tariff plan), in others - due to problems (both from the provider and from yours) and other reasons.

If the provider's technical support did not help, move on.

We are looking for "devourers" of traffic

The slow operation of the Internet may be due to the fact that a "eater" of traffic has settled on the computer - a program that clogs a significant part of the Internet channel with its data. Such a "devourer" can be:

  • Torrent clients. Especially running on multiple computers at the same time.
  • Viruses - worms, spammers, etc.
  • Operating system and applications while downloading updates. Especially when there are many such applications, and the connection is not very fast.
  • Clients cloud services during data synchronization (Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Evernote, Yandex drive, Google drive, etc.).
  • A browser minimized to the taskbar with many open tabs.

To see which processes are actively using the network, run Task Manager, go to the tab " Performance' and click on the link ' Open Resource Monitor».

AT Resource Monitor open the tab " Network' and expand the list of processes. To see what share of traffic is consumed by any process, check its box.

The presence of unknown objects in this list, as well as the high network activity of operating system processes, is a reason to scan your computer for viruses.

Checking if there are "left" connections

If you use a wireless access point to access the Internet, .

After that, open the section " Traffic monitoring” (if any) and see how traffic is distributed between devices. If among them there is a clear leader in consumption, you need to look for the source of the problem first of all on it.

We identify and strengthen the "bottlenecks" of the equipment

Network cables

Let's start with a simple one - by checking the cables between computers and the router, as well as between the router and the provider's equipment. Bad contacts, creases, close proximity to sources of electromagnetic interference (for example, to power lines) significantly impair signal transmission. If you find a problem, fix it if possible.

Router (router)

The router is the second most common culprit in reducing the speed of the Internet. Common in the home segment budget models with low speed performance. A device bought for 2-3 thousand rubles is unlikely to give you the feeling of flying, especially if you connect more than 3-4 consumers to it. The maximum speeds, which are indicated in the characteristics of inexpensive devices, are almost never achieved in reality. At best, it will be half. If when using a router, the quality of the Internet connection decreases, and when you connect the cable directly to the PC, it increases, it is obvious that this is exactly your case.

To get the most out of a weak router, update its firmware to the latest version and place it in a place in the apartment where every connected device will catch a Wi-Fi signal well. Do not place the router close to heat sources, as overheating is another reason for its slowdown.

In the Wi-Fi hotspot settings, make the following settings:

  • Wireless network mode– 802.11n standard. If possible, disconnect all devices that work according to 802.11b / g standards from the access point so that the speed is not limited by the level of their capabilities (802.11b mode works at 11 Mbit / s, 802.11g - at 54 Mbit / s, 802.11n - at 600 Mbit /s). If you have such devices and they need the Internet, connect them via cable.
  • To maintain a speed of more than 54 Mbit / s, activate the " WiFi Multimedia» ( WMM).
  • Experiment with broadcast channel width. Choose between 40 MHz and 20 MHz. With low and unstable signal levels, a 20 MHz channel often provides better bandwidth than 40 MHz. Auto 20/40 also doesn't always work optimally.
  • Use authentication method"WPA2-PSK", encryption algorithm - "AES". Disabling encryption completely will increase the performance of the router even more, but it will make your network open to everyone, and this is not secure.
  • Find the optimal broadcasting channel using the enumeration method (option " Channel» in the wireless network settings).
  • Select the optimal power of the wireless signal transmitter (option " TX power"). Sometimes lowering it significantly improves the quality of the transmission.

LAN card

Outdated drivers and some network adapter settings can slow down communication performance. Start by updating your drivers to the latest version - download them from the website of your computer motherboard manufacturer or laptop manufacturer and install them like a regular application.

After that, launch the Windows Device Manager, open the list " Network adapters" and " Properties» of the one you are using.

If you are connecting via cable, go to the " Additionally" and set the value of the parameter " Speed & Duplex» to the maximum possible for the device. Choose from two options full duplex» (in this mode, the adapter receives and transmits information at the same time).

On a similar tab of the properties of the wireless adapter, set the priority for operation in 802.11n mode (the option may be called " 802.11nmode», « 802.11npreamble» « 802.11n direct connection mode", etc.) and just like on the router, enable support WMMWi-FImultimedia" or " Multimedia and gaming environment»).

Choosing the fastest DNS server

DNS servers - hosts that map the domain names of devices and websites to IP addresses - are essential components of any Internet connection and also affect its speed. Some of them are faster, others are slower, some are geographically closer to you, others are further away. Some are loaded heavily, others are lightly loaded.

To determine the fastest and closest DNS server to you, we will use the free Namebench utility from Google.

Namebench runs on Windows, OS X and Linux platforms and is available in graphical and console versions. You can choose any, and I will tell you how to use it, using the graphic as an example.

The search for the optimal Namebench DNS server will be based on the time of opening web pages in browsers, data from network traffic analyzer utilities (tcpdump and winpcap) and some other information.

Once launched, Namebench will automatically detect your location and current DNS addresses. You only need to choose from the list " Querydatasource» maximum points for calculation (number in brackets). Above the dotted line of this list is a sample of your browsers, below - the standard test suites of the program itself.

To start the check, click " Start Benchmark».

Upon completion of testing, the result in the form of a table will open in Internet Explorer. Top right shows the recommended DNS servers - the fastest and closest to you. On the left, where I have “Fastest” written - how many percent is the best DNS faster than the current one.

;
  • Go to the folder " Network connections" (via the context menu of the Start button or the "Network and Sharing Center").
  • Open the context menu of your connection and select " Properties».

  • In the list of components on the tab " Network» mark « IPv4". Press " Properties».
  • Set the switch to " Use the following addressesDNS servers” and indicate there what the program advised.

Also change the DNS in the router settings:

Choosing the best browser

Open the same site in multiple browsers and make sure they load at different speeds. According to the results of comparative tests, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Yandex.Browser show the maximum performance. In addition, the last two have the "Turbo mode" option, which speeds up the opening of pages with a slow connection.

Also, to improve browser performance, do not forget to close extra tabs and disable unused extensions.

Using TCP Optimizer to speed up the Internet

There are many programs that promise to speed up the Internet by 100-200-500%, but most of them are paid and far from being as omnipotent as they are written about. I will talk about one of the free ones that does not give out empty promises, but simply works - the TCP Optimizer utility. It is able to increase network bandwidth by about 15-20% while supporting all types of connections.

Despite the many options, using the program is easy. The choice of optimal parameters is made automatically. To do this, you need to perform only a few operations:

  • Run the utility with administrator rights (it does not require installation).
  • On the scale " connectionSpeed» Specify the maximum speed of your connection.
  • From the list " networkadapterselection» select the current network adapter.
  • In the list " Choose settings» mark « Optimal».
  • Click " applychanges” and restart your computer to apply the settings.

In automatic mode, TCP Optimizer itself sets the optimal parameters of the TCP window (the main network protocol) for a given connection speed. And if you want to understand the program in more detail, in order to change its settings manually, there is a .

That's all I wanted to say on today's topic. Of course, in the vastness of the global network you can find a lot of other tips on how to speed up the Internet by 1000%, but some of them are outdated for a long time, and some are frankly harmful (like suggestions to abandon the antivirus and disable windows updates). BUT main advice like this: speed up, but keep a reasonable balance between online comfort and data security on your PC. After all, the second, whatever one may say, is more important than the first.
