Do-it-yourself installation of blinds on plastic windows. How to quickly and correctly hang vertical blinds - instructions How best to hang blinds

  • 27.06.2020

Interior design often involves the choice of decor on the windows. Today, horizontal blinds are increasingly used for such purposes. Designs of this type are characterized by ease of operation and a long service life. Installation of blinds requires special skills, so not always a beginner can solve this problem. If you do not know how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows be sure to consult with a specialist.

Advantages

Horizontal blinds are several thin plates that are interconnected by a thread. This allows you to control their location in different planes. Similar designs are of several types, each of which differs in the material of the lamellas.

The most common modifications are considered blinds made of aluminum plates. This product has many benefits:

  1. The metal perfectly withstands temperature extremes, and is also indestructible under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
  2. The lamellas are light in weight, but at the same time quite a large margin of safety. They resist bending well.
  3. They don't burn.
  4. The material does not accumulate dust, grease and odors. Perfect for both modern office and home kitchen.
  5. The service life can reach 20-30 years (with proper care).
  6. Relatively simple and quick installation.
  7. Ease of maintenance. To clean the surface, simply periodically wipe the surface with a damp sponge.
  8. The design takes up little space, which allows you to install them in almost any interior.

Another popular type of horizontal blinds are wooden products. This product has the following advantages:

  1. The material protects the room very well from the penetration of light.
  2. The wood does not heat up.
  3. Products are environmentally friendly. They do not accumulate dust, which allows them to be used in the bedroom or nursery.
  4. Unique design. The slats are made from various wood species. This allows you to choose the pattern of your choice.

It should be understood that the tree is afraid of moisture, so it is not recommended to use such blinds in the kitchen or in other wet areas.

Lamels today are also made of polymeric materials. Plastic blinds are distinguished by such features:

  1. The quality of light protection is the best among all the considered models.
  2. Plastic is pretty easy to clean. In this case, you can use almost all household detergents.
  3. The material is well tolerated by moisture.
  4. Service life is practically unlimited.
  5. The plastic construction is lightweight and small.
  6. Plastic is heat resistant. This allows you to install blinds even in swimming pools and bathrooms.
  7. Ease of operation.
  8. Relatively low price.

But plastic is not a universal material. Blinds must not be installed near any heat sources. This can lead to deformation of the plates. Also, the polymer quickly fades in the sun and gradually turns yellow.

Mounting methods

Horizontal blinds are available in various sizes and modifications that can be adapted to specific window characteristics. Such systems can be mounted in various places:

  1. To the ceiling. This type of placement is possible only for solid foundations.
  2. on the sash. Fixation takes place directly on the window frame itself. Often, these options are found when blinds are used. small size for each individual glass.
  3. To the wall. One of the most popular installation methods. It is used for structures that completely cover the entire surface of the window.
  4. In the window opening. Here, installation can be carried out directly on the base of the frame or on the ceiling of the slopes.

Choosing the location of the blinds, you should take into account their functionality and design features. All these characteristics must be qualitatively combined with each other.

Preparation for installation and measurements

Installation of horizontal blinds is technically possible without a certain experience. The procedure for marking fasteners begins. To do this, the structure is applied to the place of the future location and the locations of the brackets are marked. It is important that the system is located strictly horizontally.

If the products were sold unassembled, then the blinds should be assembled before marking. All such operations must be performed only on the basis of the manufacturer's instructions. This will avoid distortion and possible damage to the elements during operation.

When marking, it is important to consider the location of the product. The mechanism should not prevent the opening of the sashes, unless, of course, it is mounted directly on top of it.

Mounting methods

without drilling

Many manufacturers have simplified the installation of horizontal blinds as much as possible. You can attach this design yourself using the following fasteners:

  • Double sided tape. Fastening can be carried out either directly using adhesive tape or using special brackets. Last option involves fixing fasteners with this adhesive tape. Please note that this installation option is only possible on the window sash itself. To obtain a reliable fixation, it is important to first degrease its surface. After that, marking is done. It is necessary that the canvas is located strictly parallel to the plumb line. If there is a misalignment, then this will lead to rapid wear of the control mechanism. When the entire system is aligned, you can fix the structure on the window.
  • Clamps. This option can only be used for opening doors. The installation process involves fixing the clamps directly on the eaves. To do this, you just need to put them on. After that, the sash opens and these fasteners are hung on it. This is quite simple to do, as you need to press the mechanism a little, and it will snap into place.

with drilling

A more versatile way to install blinds is to use special metal brackets. With their help, you can mount products both on a wall or ceiling, and directly on a plastic window sash.

This operation consists of the following consecutive steps:

  1. Initially, the location of the cornice is selected and marking is made.
  2. Hole formation. Please note that if you mark the places under them incorrectly, this will lead to the formation of a skew. Since extra holes in the wall are useless, everything should be done in a balanced way.
  3. Bracket attachment. To do this, use special screws or anchors, which are often included.
  4. Installing a cornice. This element is fixed on special latches. This operation does not require much effort.
  5. Canvas installation.

It should be noted that this method of fastening does not depend on the location of the eaves. Here, only the type of bracket and the location of the latches on the surface of the blind frame can differ.

How to hang on a window opening?

The algorithm for mounting blinds on a wall consists of several successive steps:

  1. First of all, you need to decide whether all the components are available. If the blinds have a width of more than 2 m, then they must be supplemented with an intermediate fastener. This prevents sagging of the eaves.
  2. The next step is markup. To do this, the blinds are located above the window in the right place. Then they retreat from the ends by about 3 cm and mark the location of the brackets.
  3. When all marks are made, use a drill to drill holes for the dowels. It is important to choose the right hole diameter in order to form strong connection fasteners with the wall. If the structure is wide, then you need to drill a hole in the middle for an additional dowel in a similar way. Please note that for heavy aluminum or wooden blinds, the distance of the end screws must be at least 10 cm from the edge of the eaves.
  4. When the brackets are screwed on, a cornice is hung on them. It can be fixed in several ways. The most convenient is the mechanism on self-latching locks. More simple products need to be screwed to the frame using self-tapping screws or screws.

The process of installing blinds in the opening itself can be described by the following sequential actions:

  1. Initially, the technical equipment of the product is checked. Pay attention to the size of the cornice. It depends on how it is attached.
  2. Blind assembly. The process is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Markup. To do this, the cornice is installed on the plastic window sash. Sometimes installation is possible on the ceiling of the opening or on the wall that forms above the frame frame. It is important, when taking measurements, to check whether the blinds prevent the movement of the opening sashes. On the basis, the places of fastening of the brackets are also marked.
  4. After that, holes are drilled and fasteners are attached. You should not drill deep, as you can do through hole. If fixing occurs directly on the plastic, special self-tapping screws should be used.
  5. The process is completed by hanging the cornice and canvas. This process is similar to that described in the previous section.

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to independently hang blinds on plastic windows. You will be able to find out what types of window multi-leaf curtains are and how to properly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Kinds

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, arranged parallel to each other and adjustable plates, made of various materials- fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light
  • decorate the window
  • regulate air flow.
There are several types of blinds. The most common of them are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was in this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of rigid curtains was carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds are thin plates (lamellas) that are arranged one above the other like a ladder. They are interconnected by a cord that allows you to open and close them, as well as adjust the height. The plates are controlled by a rotary rod. Lamels can be made of different materials - wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good sun protection
  • increased heat transfer;
  • the ability to control the intensity of lighting;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of maintenance and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • the ability to use for any premises, including kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are no downsides to horizontal blinds. They can be present only depending on the material from which they are made. We will discuss them in more detail in a separate section below.

vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. However, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used to decorate various rooms.

These are plastic, metal or fabric lamellas suspended on a cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a side mechanism that rotates the plates - with the help of a decorative cord (chain) they turn, with the help of a rope they move in one direction, fully or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the ability to install in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in skylights and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • effective regulation of the flow of sunlight;
  • good air access when dimming;
  • the possibility of combining with ordinary curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Among the shortcomings should be mentioned:
  • inconvenience when shifting to the side when opening the window;
  • the impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when fastened to the window opening.

Rolled

Roller blinds have recently entered the field of view modern design apartments. Preference is given to them by those who love coziness and comfort in the house. It is they who are able to create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. Besides appearance roller blinds more attractive than other types, while the functionality also remains on top.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft, on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially closing the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of operation;
  • ease of care - the fabric is impregnated with dust and water-repellent composition;
  • the possibility of implementing any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and overheating of the room;
  • the ability to create any degree of illumination of the room;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • possibility of installation on skylights;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with opening windows and decorating the window sill;
  • the possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than the more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

Cassette blinds are one of the types of roller blinds. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or a fabric roll are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash when closing.

This design allows you to save space, free the window and window sill, additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, and deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, angled and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated blinds. As the name already implies, these are fabric curtains assembled in a small fold. Their choice is huge and is represented by various colors, density of fabric material, shapes. Some of them are sewn according to a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original atmosphere. This option is a piece of fabric, which is attached to a special profile and is controlled by a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated blinds:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the possibility of designing a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated solutions in the interior are not complete without the use of multiimpressive blinds, i.е. those in which the lamellas are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Varieties of material

As already mentioned, in different time blinds were made from various textures. Today, the most common materials for window hard curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, less often wood. Each of them has both pluses and minuses.

fabric

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the room from sunlight in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are drawn to the look and color options of fabric blinds, but are put off by the notion that they require the same maintenance as regular curtains. However, it is not.

Textiles for blinds are impregnated with special impregnations that prevent dirt, dust and moisture from being absorbed. Care will consist only in periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wooden structures have a shorter lifespan. Textile patterns - not the best way for the kitchen or catering establishments, as they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden plates. They were replaced by metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window guards.

Plastic

One of the most purchased species, due to its low price and the possibility of application in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, with high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be with varying degrees of light transmission, various colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at the best price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft, with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow under prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to poor resistance to fire;
  • release of toxic substances in case of fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, ability to withstand different temperatures, moisture. They are often used to protect windows in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Among the shortcomings - a heavier weight, the creation of a noise effect in a draft.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are used in certain types of interiors, they go well with fabric curtains and natural wood furniture. They allow you to create a warm homely atmosphere. They are reliable, durable, durable, environmentally friendly, protect well from the sun. However, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

Blinds can be installed without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical hard curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fixed in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in the window opening;
  • to window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening is measured with a tape measure. On a sheet of paper, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the window, on which measurements will be taken in the future.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height, 2 cm from the width.

When installed above a window opening the size of the blinds is calculated based on the addition of 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to its width.

When attached to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the glazing bead with the window with right side by adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blind window 3 cm is added to the distance from the glazing bead to the glazing bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • top part - rotary axis, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord holder, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • the middle part - lamellas and a plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
The following tools are required for installation:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for mounting finished aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove control knob.
  3. Attach fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the places for attaching the brackets. The distance between them must be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach the brackets to the wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the places for attaching the lower clamps.
  8. Attach bottom fasteners.
  9. Insert adjusting knob.

Important!Care must be taken to ensure that the brackets do not get into the control mechanism, cord retainer or caliper..

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, remove the side and remove the lower latches from the bottom bar. Then pull out the knots of the cord from the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Re-insert the cords into the holes of the bottom bar and tie knots. Return the lower and side clamps.

You can also shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult to do. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact the master. For trimming, you need a hacksaw with fine teeth. The slats should be folded into one strip and sawn off to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file, if necessary - tint.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need drilling and a drill or punch, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. to plastic or wooden windows roller blinds are attached with double-sided adhesive tape and PVC staples without drilling.

If the blinds are attached to the sash, then to calculate their dimensions, you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of system will depend on the latter size. With a bead depth of more than 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Mini.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be cut.

Important! The length of the roller blinds is calculated based on the fact that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for mounting roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a cap on one end of the roll, and a swivel mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the latch into the bracket and fasten it to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets on the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the attachment point.
  5. Mark the mounting points for the brackets.
  6. Make sure that nothing prevents the opening of the curtains.
  7. Degrease the place of attachment of the brackets.
  8. Stick adhesive tape on the sash at the place where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease brackets.
  10. Peel off the protective tape of the tape.
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the adhesive tape at the attachment point.

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, web and bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with ordinary scissors under the ruler, and then the bottom rail is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with adhesive tape. In order to install them, you need:

  1. Print product.
  2. Degrease the attachment point to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the lower position.
  4. Mark the location of the cassette attachment with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape attached to the back of the cassette.
  6. Attach the cassette to the frame, press and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully remove the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the cassette of the shade body and press down.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of adhesive tape, press the guides parallel to the frame glazing bead.
  10. Do the same on the other side.
  11. Install a limiter.

vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in the window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can have left-hand, right-hand and central control. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains on your own.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that after installing the blinds the sash will open, you need to measure the distance from the top edge of the sash to the upper slope of the eaves installation point. The distance must be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure in the overlay. Because the window may be uneven, the width and height must be measured at three points.

Attach vertical blinds in the window opening, you can do this:

  1. Mark the mounting points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the cornice into the special grooves on the holders and snap the locks.
  5. Install fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Fasten the bottom chain.

Above the windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm to the width of the window opening on each side. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. At least 10 cm should be retreated from the upper slope angle. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance "ceiling - window sill", "ceiling - floor" - 4-7 cm.

Installing blinds solves many window decor problems. Curtains, curtains, tulles, no matter what fabric they are made from, require frequent washing, as dust and dirt accumulate on them. The density of the curtains determines how well they let in or block light.

Blinds are much more convenient than curtains in many ways.

Depending on the angle at which the lamellas are located, they completely open the access of natural light to the room, partially block it, gently diffuse or completely isolate the room not only from light, but also from thermal radiation. They do not require special care, and installing blinds on your own is not difficult.

Varieties

Horizontal

A light-shielding design with a horizontal arrangement of slats that has become familiar, almost classic for window decoration.

Advantages:

  • Compactness. Are established directly on a window, leaving a window sill free. This saves space and allows you to place greenery on the window in favorable conditions for it;
  • light weight constructions;
  • Strength and rigidity of the lamellas, preventing deformation;
  • fire safety;
  • Simple control mechanism;
  • Special coating or impregnation against dust, dirt, odors and grease;
  • Resistant to humidity and temperature extremes;
  • Miscellaneous materials for the manufacture of lamellas: wood, plastic, aluminum, less often fabrics;
  • Easy installation;
  • Affordable price.

It is worth mentioning some of the disadvantages:

  • When mounted on a frame, the angle of inclination of the window sashes when opening is limited;
  • The slats emit a characteristic knock or ringing in the wind. To avoid this, it is necessary to purchase lower fasteners, which are not included in the kit and quickly become unusable;
  • The design is subject to repair in case of severe deformation of several slats, but it will cost like new blinds;
  • Not suitable for balconies and loggias with sliding windows.

vertical

Distinguishes them from horizontal ones:

  • More aesthetic appearance. Horizontal blinds are more functional while vertical ones are decorative;
  • The ability to cover a large area with one cornice. Horizontal blinds, as a rule, consist of narrow slats and are designed for minimalistic decoration of small windows. Vertical models have different widths and easily cover the area of large windows, arches and doorways.
  • Variety of materials. Can be wood fiber, wooden, aluminum, bamboo, plastic, woven and nonwoven fabric, mirror, blackout, thread. The abundance of materials provides another advantage - the variability of colors and textures;
  • Modern and original design windows that open up more design possibilities;
  • Simplicity of control mechanisms. Both mechanical and electrical are possible;
  • The ability to place photo printing on the "curtains" due to the larger surface and better characteristics of the material;
  • Practicality. Larger lamellas are easier to clean if necessary, which does not occur often. If, in case of severe contamination, for example, in a children's room, the slats still need to be subjected to hygienic procedures, it will not take much time - they can be washed by hand and in a washing machine;
  • Possibility of installation on non-standard windows (triangle, trapezoid, arch, bay window);
  • The structure is in need of repair. To replace a particular part, you do not need to call the master, it is simple enough to do it yourself. You can replace the slats one at a time without having to dismantle the entire structure.

Vertical blinds, as the name implies, are a simple and convenient light-shielding structure, consisting of longitudinal vertical plates.

Rolled

Roller blinds, roller blinds are solid canvases, often made of textiles, but other materials are also possible, which, like horizontal blinds, roll up. The height can be adjusted by fixing the curtain with a weighting agent on the bottom bar of the canvas.

There are different types of roller shutters: with an open drum (for mounting directly on the window) and with a decorative cornice; "mini" for installation on each frame separately and "roll-cassette" for curtaining the entire window as a whole.

There is an opinion that roller blinds are the most budgetary and practical option for window decoration, but this is not entirely true. Of course roller shutters have their advantages: variety of natural and synthetic fabrics, colors and patterns, ease of care (allowed wet cleaning) and operation, the ability to fix the curtain at the desired height, special impregnations from dust, moisture, high temperatures and glare, compatibility with other types of curtains. It is convenient if necessary to hide the room from the sun, decorate the window with beautiful tulle so that it is not visible from the street what is happening inside.

But with so many advantages, they also have significant disadvantages.:

  • budget price- it's a delusion. Yes, by itself, a medium-sized curtain made of a common material will be inexpensive, but it will look boring. In order for the window design to be complete, it is necessary to think over additional decor, and this increases the cost at times;
  • Roller blinds in the bedroom, study and rooms with high windows need electrical control. Electric drive designs are expensive, and some manufacturers also produce noise;
  • Impossible make a custom-made curtain from a certain textile. You can choose only specific products of a specific brand, since the set of fabrics for the production of roller blinds is very limited: translucent, textured, reflective, perforated, blackout, and that’s all, perhaps;
  • Maximum Width roller blinds - 280-300 cm, that is, it will not work to cover a large area with one cornice, for example, a panoramic window or a balcony;
  • Can there will be problems with installation not on the wall, but in the window opening, since the bobbin is wider in width than the curtain itself. There will inevitably be gaps on the sides of the window openings. Ceiling or wall mount preferred.

Pleated

This type of blinds is similar to both horizontal and roller blinds. The design consists of a control mechanism (chain or electric drive), weights, pleated fabric, which resembles accordion furs.

The range of materials, colors and textures is very diverse.

Peculiarities:

  • They close from top to bottom, like classic canvases, from bottom to top or from both sides at the same time. At the same time, the degree of density of the "accordion" can be adjusted, thus closing either the upper, or lower, or central part of the window;
  • Suitable for curtaining irregularly shaped windows;
  • The optimal solution for dormers, attics, skylights and slanted windows;
  • “Opening”, the canvas is compactly folded and hidden inside the eaves;
  • Suitable for installation on all types of windows;
  • Various ways fastenings and control mechanisms (manual and electric);
  • The woven fabric is washable;
  • The curtain fabric can be made of two types of fabric at the same time, which makes it possible to adjust the degree of transparency, darkening, sun protection;
  • Easy installation can be done by hand.

Pleated types:

  • Classic. In appearance, they are most similar to horizontal blinds, but they can also be vertical. Made from fabric, paper or plastic. Designed for darkening the room, protection from heating by sunlight, zoning the interior space of the room.

  • Corrugated. This type is a vertical and horizontal double pleat. As a result, the folds look more even, neat and dense. Corrugated plastic and paper in this design absorbs a significant part of the heat and protects from bright light.

  • Inclined. A kind of pleated window, especially for windows that are located at an angle in the attic or ceiling. Their feature is in a specific assembly system, which does not allow the web of any material to sag when at an angle. Mostly inclined models are produced with electronic control.

  • Arched. The most flexible canvases that take any shape, like a paper fan. A good solution for rooms with non-standard window shapes (arches, trapeziums, triangles, beveled windows).

  • "Day Night". The canvas of such blinds consists of two layers of fabric: a light fabric that transmits a large amount of light for daytime use and a dense, dark fabric for protection from the bright sun during the day and prying eyes in the evening.

Cassette

Such systems involve either the use of horizontal slats or a solid web, but are not horizontal blinds or roller blinds. They differ in the types of cassettes (angular, round, flat), controls ( different kinds mechanical and remote), the materials used (plastic, textiles, bamboo, aluminum).

Their main feature consists in a design, the special structure of which makes it possible to fix the blinds at a minimum distance from the window glass. This prevents deformation, sagging, the appearance of wrinkles and irregularities, and completely opens the window sill.

Advantages:

  • Compactness. Cassette blinds occupy a minimum of space, leaving the owners the opportunity to show imagination and organize additional window decor or leave the window sill as a functional surface;
  • Simple and clear type of control;
  • Long service life. Special impregnation protects the fabric from dust, grease, dirt, moisture, abrasion;
  • Ease of hygiene procedures. Cassette systems do not require special care. It is enough to wipe their small surface area with a damp sponge with soapy water every few months;
  • A variety of designs for the interior in any style;
  • The tight fit of the canvas to the glass surface protects equally well from heat and cold;
  • The ability to mount the system yourself;
  • A variety of materials - from light window decoration to total blackout protection;
  • The ability to combine blinds with curtains, tulle, lambrequin.

Mounting methods

There are three types of blinds fastening: to the wall, ceiling, directly on the frame, and two ways - with and without drilling.

The universal basis of any fastening is a cornice, which different ways mounts to a wall, frame or ceiling.

with drilling

It is carried out with the help of self-tapping screws, brackets on which the cornice is installed, fishing line. Additionally, you will need a pencil, ruler, drill, screwdriver.

First you need to make a markup in those places where the brackets will be located.

For reliability and accuracy in the marked places, it is necessary to drill holes for the clamps. Then, applying the brackets in turn to the PVC frame, fix them to the markup with a screwdriver. Next, a cornice is installed and the whole structure is assembled as a whole.

without drilling

If in the future it is planned to replace blinds or other window decoration options, it is not recommended to damage plastic windows. Holes from self-tapping screws will remain in the frame forever and significantly spoil the appearance of windows. In this case, it is easier to turn to a method that does not require drilling.

Brackets in this case are attached in two ways:

  • for the upper part of the PVC profile on the opening doors (you can just hang it like a hook);
  • on double-sided tape, which can be glued without fear of leaving marks.

A special approach requires fastening the blinds on the balcony. The balcony structure plays an important role here. The choice of these or those blinds and the method of their fastening depends on the type of glazing. In general, almost all options are available for balconies. Particular attention should be paid to the type of blinds, since not all of them are universal for different types windows. For example, horizontal blinds are not suitable for a balcony with sliding windows, as they can be deformed during operation or from strong winds.

Measurements and markings

The final result depends on how correctly the measurements are taken.

Even expensive beautiful models will not look good on the window if there are gaps in the opening or the edges of the lamellas constantly lift up against the wall.

It is important to pay attention to the following points:

  • For the most accurate indicators, a steel tape measure is used;
  • It is impossible to round the received figures, the accuracy must be observed to millimeters;
  • When ordering blinds, the width parameter is indicated first, the length - the second;
  • Not a single window opening has absolutely ideal geometric shapes, therefore, measurements up and down must be made at least at two points.

Horizontal

If you plan to mount blinds on the movable half of the window, you will need to measure the gap between the glazing beads and add from 30 mm, which will prevent gaps in the structure. The height of the blinds is equal to the height of the window sash.

To install a window inside the opening, measurements are required at three points in height and width, since the openings are not always absolutely proportional.

The width is identical to the wide side of the glass plus the thickness of the rubber seal. The length is identical to the height of the window (including elastic bands) and a margin of 1cm. To install the eaves, you will need an additional 30-40 cm to the slopes and loops. The chain of command is 2/3 of the height of the window.

When choosing to fix the cornice to the wall, the width parameter increases by 10 cm, the height is measured from the point of attachment of the brackets to the floor arbitrarily.

vertical

When installing in the armhole of the window, you need to determine the width at the top of the arch and subtract 20 mm. To determine the height, compare the height of the left and right sides of the arch, subtract 1 cm from the smaller value.

For wall mounting, at least 10 cm must be added to the wide side of the slope. The length of the slats can be any, but it is recommended to retreat 2 cm from the edge of the blinds to the floor.

Ceiling installation involves determining the height (to the floor or window sill) minus 2 cm, it is recommended to increase the width of the arch by 100+ mm.

Rolled

For mounting the canvases to the wall, only one measurement is required - from the edge of the window sill to the markings for the brackets, and the width can be up to 300 cm.

In the window arch, roller blinds are mounted after measuring the width, from which 4 centimeters must be subtracted, and the length of the canvas is equal to the height of the window minus 15 mm.

Pleated blinds similarly do not require a professional approach in taking measurements and installation.

Installation of vertical models

Vertical blinds are the most convenient way to decorate a window for self-fulfillment. They are attached in three ways: to the ceiling, to the frame with drilling, to the frame without drilling.

In all cases, the fastener is a cornice with or without a decorative facade.

The brackets on which the structure rests are fastened with self-tapping screws, hung or glued on double-sided tape. Special adhesive tape, despite the seeming impracticality, is fixed very firmly, so it is important to correctly mark the brackets for installation. Once they are glued, moving them will be very problematic.

How to install vertical blinds:

  1. Preparing tools. You will need a stepladder, a set of self-tapping screws from the kit, building level and drawing accessories, drill, screwdriver.
  2. Applying pencil markings for installing brackets. To securely fix the fasteners, it is recommended to drill holes for self-tapping screws at the same stage.
  3. Mounting brackets in a suitable way (with or without drilling).
  4. Cornice installation.
  5. Lamella installation. To do this, you need to pull the control cord, on which the fasteners for the slats are located, so that they stand in the desired position. Then fix all the slats on the fastening hooks.

Installation of horizontal

For installation, you will need a set of tools: a drill, a cross-section screwdriver, a screwdriver, drawing accessories.

The instruction for installing horizontal blinds on windows contains a list of items, which is performed step by step:

  1. Draw a marking line for the installation of brackets. It should take into account the distance between the latches and the control mechanism, between the brackets (from 60 cm) and to the extreme sections on the blinds bar (25 cm). With a large width of the blinds and significant weight, it is recommended to use intermediate fasteners.
  2. Drill on the surface to which it is planned to mount the brackets holes for installing dowels. On plastic windows it is possible to apply blinds without drilling.
  3. Profile mounting.
  4. Fixing the upper rod of the blinds on the brackets. It is important to remember that the blinds at this stage are already assembled.

Working with horizontal models on sloping surfaces requires a little more effort and skill.

How to hang roller blinds?

Like other types, roller blinds or roller blinds are attached in several ways: they can be hung, glued, mounted on a frame.

First way- the easiest and most affordable for do-it-yourself installation is a fastening without drilling based on double-sided adhesive tape. Suitable for tilt-and-turn mechanisms on windows. It is carried out step by step:

  1. Degreasing the frame sections and fasteners that will be connected with adhesive tape.
  2. Roller shutter fixing.
  3. Roller blind installation. The chain mechanism can be installed from any convenient side.
  4. Bracket assembly.
  5. Bracket mounting markings. To do this, you need to install them on the assembled roller blind, install it on the window without fastening, mark the places for the adhesive tape with a pencil, remove the curtain.
  6. Application of adhesive tape on the back surface of the brackets, installation on the window.
  7. Setting the guide wire against sagging. It is attached to the “ear” of the upper bracket and curtain weighting agent, and is fixed at the bottom in the tensioner, which is installed on the frame.

The second method involves fastening to a stationary frame (not opening):

  • First of all you need to mount the roller blind, assemble the brackets and install them on the reel. Then this design must be fixed on the window in order to mark up for fastening.
  • Second step– fixing the brackets to the adhesive tape in the upper part of the frame and the string tensioner in the lower part. It is not necessary to pre-attach them with tape, but it is desirable to eliminate problems with subsequent drilling of holes for the screws. After installing the guide string, the curtain itself is mounted in the mechanisms.

How to fix cassette?

Cassette blinds can also be installed independently. Before installation, you must read the instructions, make sure that the complete set, prepare everything necessary tools: screwdriver, drawing tools, screwdriver, drill, cotton pads or a small piece of cloth, degreaser.

When everything you need is collected, you can proceed to the first stage - degreasing the glazing beads. Then you need to remove the side covers of the box, raise it to the top of the frame, focusing on the guides, drill holes for the fasteners, fix with screws. You can use a screwdriver for this purpose, or you can perform the process manually with a Phillips screwdriver.

When the box is installed, you need to fix the covers on the sides. After that, you can glue the guide rails to the degreased frame. The guides should be below the corner of the glazing bead by a few centimeters.

Important nuances

Installation work on window decoration requires certain skills and experience, but if you want to try it yourself, you need to take into account some of the nuances and features in this work.

Installation of blinds begins long before the preparation of the work surface and a set of tools.

The first step of this process- a balanced decision about the type and variety of blinds, material, color and texture, depending on the functionality of the room. So, it is more expedient to choose vertical blinds for the living room that let in light, for the bedroom automatic roller blinds with electric blackout fabric, and for the kitchen, where the smells of cooking and combustion products of food are constantly hovering - plastic blinds that do not absorb grease and dirt.

The second important point is the correct markup. Much depends on it, including how easy the installation process will be. If all the features of the architecture of window openings are taken into account by specialists when ordering blinds from them, everything will go smoothly and easily without the help of professional installers.

It is also important to consider whether it will be possible to open the window after installation, how the light protection devices will work, and whether there is a risk of their deformation.

The installation of blinds must be carried out exactly with the markup and subsequent verification of the functionality of the structure. Here the most important point is the choice between fastening - with or without drilling.

It is also necessary to provide for the type of control. For low windows, one of the varieties of mechanical direction is an excellent solution. Roof windows, slanted windows, windows in the bedroom are suitable for magnetic, automatic (electrical) control with an electric drive.

Nowadays, blinds have gained considerable popularity - they are installed both in private homes and in offices. Most often, installation of systems is carried out by specialists, but installing blinds on a plastic window with your own hands is also quite possible and does not even require any special skills or tools. You can install these curtains in several ways, the choice of which depends on the interior and functionality.

Varieties

Today in the assortment of hardware stores there are several varieties of blinds. Depending on the specific type, the features of attaching curtains change.

On sale you can find several varieties of horizontal blinds at once. The lamellas in them are installed horizontally, which is the reason for the name of the design. The thickness, width and type of material can be arbitrary. The design can be mounted inside the frame, to the frame itself, to the slope or on top of the window block.

Horizontal blinds are most often mounted in institutions

Install similar blinds in offices, production facilities and other places. These designs are universal - if desired, you can find horizontal blinds of almost any color and shade.

Due to the design features, such blinds are most often mounted on top of windows.. The slats in this case are oriented vertically, made of plastic or fabric. There are varieties on the market that differ in the length of the lamellae.

Vertical blinds are mainly installed in residential areas.

Installation of this model is most often done in private homes, but they are also in demand in offices. Installation of vertical blinds is carried out on self-tapping screws. As an alternative, ceiling mounting is practiced.

Roller blinds are made of fabric, completely cover the glass, if desired, they can be raised by rolling into a roll. Installation is carried out using brackets, self-tapping screws or adhesive tape.

Roller blinds can be installed without drilling walls and shutters - on double-sided tape

The need for drilling varies depending on the type:

  1. Vertical structures are mounted on top of the window or under the ceiling. In both cases, you will have to drill the surface.
  2. Horizontal blinds can be attached to the top slope or window sashes. Without drilling, such structures can be mounted on the sashes of the window block.
  3. Interframe analog, as you might guess from the name, is designed to be installed inside the window itself. This option requires drilling most holes.

Preparation and measurements

To install the blinds, you will need the following tool:

  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • pencil or marker;
  • roulette.

So that all efforts are not in vain, it is important to correctly and accurately perform measurements - only then the design will work efficiently. In addition, it must be absolutely symmetrical to the double-glazed window. Blinds attached with adhesive tape are more tolerant of errors - if desired, they can be corrected. For analogs with fastening on self-tapping screws, it will be necessary to make additional holes, which is unlikely to benefit the beauty of the window, flaws are unacceptable here.

At the first stage of installation, blinds measure the width and height of the window.

For the correct location of the structure relative to the window and floor level, you will need to measure the following parameters:

  • window opening dimensions;
  • length to the bottom edge of the curtain;
  • distance between fasteners.

For horizontal blinds mounted on sashes, you will need to additionally measure the dimensions of each glass. To the results obtained, add 2 cm to the upper and lower edges and 0.5 cm to the sides.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installing vertical blinds is actually not as difficult a process as it might seem at first, and anyone can handle this task. If the length of the curtain is small, then the installation is carried out inside the window opening. Otherwise, the structure is installed under the ceiling or on the wall.

The algorithm of actions here is as follows:

Installation of chains and lamellas. After attaching the cornice, there will be very little left - hang the slats, start the runners, and also attach the control chain. Important point: the slats must be hung in the same order in which they are in the box. Otherwise, you can ruin the entire drawing (if any).

Installation of horizontal blinds

Mounting horizontal blinds on plastic windows is somewhat more complicated. The main thing is to clearly follow the instructions:

  1. The first step is to fix the upper fasteners. This is done with a screwdriver. First, holes are prepared, after which the bracket is attached with screws.
  2. We hang the cornice. It should be fastened until it clicks.
  3. The holes for the lower mounts are drilled by hand. When choosing a diameter, one should take into account the dimensions of the thread retainer connecting the lamellae. Most often, horizontal blinds require additional openings on the sides. This helps to insert the latch connected to the lamella web into the corners.

When installing horizontal blinds yourself, you must carefully follow the instructions

Important: self-assembly needs to be done with the utmost care. Very often, the slightest mistake turns into the fact that the whole structure functions incorrectly..

In the case of roller blinds, there are several mounting options at once, so before starting, you should choose the most convenient one. The first is mounting on self-tapping screws, which in essence is no different from the option described above, the second is on a special adhesive tape, which is used instead of self-tapping screws, and in the third, the roller blind is hung on the sash.

To fix roller blinds use brackets or adhesive tape

Important: do not forget about the degreasing of plastic - it will help to significantly improve the adhesion of materials.

Interframe curtains

Interframe curtains are used only for double frames. Installation of this type of blinds is somewhat more complicated than the previous ones, and the process itself will result in an inevitable violation of the integrity of the profile: you will have to drill at least two holes through which the handle and cord to control the system will be pulled out.

The curtains themselves are mounted in the inner sash, more precisely - in its upper part, and the bracket - directly to the upper profile. Installation of the structure is in many ways similar to working with horizontal blinds.

Interframe curtains are installed in double-glazed windows

Do-it-yourself installation of the system is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  1. The window frame is untwisted, and the blinds are applied to the inner sash. This is used to check if the dimensions match.
  2. Markings are made for fastening, as well as the points for the output of the cord and the control knob, after which holes with a diameter of about 5 mm are drilled.
  3. The brackets are inserted into the calipers, the cords and control knobs are brought out, and the cord is through the bottom hole.
  4. Interframe blinds are attached to the sash with special interframe brackets.
  5. An adapter is installed on the frame, and a control handle is connected to the flexible output.
  6. The lock of the control handle and cord is installed.
  7. The frame rolls back.
The blind control element is brought out through the frame

As you can see, the technology for installing blinds on plastic windows without drilling is completely inappropriate here. The principle itself resembles the installation of all other design options, with the only difference being that you have to disassemble the frame, screw the bracket into the space between the frames, and remove the controls through the drilled holes.

In order for the blinds to be able to serve for many years, some operating rules should be observed:

  1. When buying, you should carefully check the complete set and all equipment, especially fasteners. They must be of high quality.
  2. The adjustment mechanism should be chosen wisely - it should be on the side convenient for operation.
  3. Make sure that no one opens the windows when the blinds have not yet been fully folded.
  4. The rotary knob must not interfere with or touch other fittings.
  5. Do not forget about periodic maintenance.
  6. Installing blinds on windows is quite possible and do-it-yourself, but it is better to entrust its repair to a professional.
  7. Plastic structures are preferable: it is much easier to care for them.
  8. Do not clean the system too often, this will only lead to rapid wear of the protective layer.

Installing the device with your own hands, as you can see, is a very simple matter, whether it be metal, plastic or wooden blinds on plastic windows. The main thing is to have high-quality instructions at hand. Thanks to this material, you can hang the blinds as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Various designs of blinds - vertical, horizontal, roller blinds - are designed to protect against sunlight and fit perfectly into any interior style. Whichever of them you choose for your windows, it is important not just to hang the blinds, but to achieve their correct operation: raising and lowering, shifting and adjusting the position of the slats.

To properly hang the blinds, you first need to carefully measure everything (blinds are not curtains, if they don’t fit, you won’t be able to reduce or increase) and outline the attachment points

How to take measurements

If you decide to hang vertical blinds on a wall or ceiling, then first of all measure the width of the window opening or window sill. It is better that the cornice is longer and protrudes 10-20 cm on both sides of the window, so the room will seem more spacious.

Choose the length of the slats at your discretion: only to the height of the window (up to the window sill) or to the floor itself. Too long webs of fabric lamellas can be shortened by cutting and hemming on one side.

The system of vertical blinds on large windows provides sufficient natural light and protects the interior from prying eyes.

When installing horizontal or roller blinds, you need to proceed from where exactly you plan to place them - in front of the window opening or inside it. Placing on the wall or on the ceiling implies the possibility of tolerances in the width and length of the structure. If the installation will be carried out directly in the window opening or on its frame, then the blinds must exactly match the dimensions: width (of the entire window or sash) and height.

When planning to hang blinds on individual sashes of opening windows, it is recommended to measure the width and height of the glass. 2 cm are added to them from above and below and 1 cm to the side allowances (0.5 cm each) so that the blinds cover the glass completely, but do not cling to the existing window fittings.

The following video will show you how to measure a window for horizontal blinds:

Fastener without drilling

If you are going to hang blinds on a plastic window with your own hands and do without drilling, then the choice will have to be limited to small and fairly light models that can withstand the weight:

  • magnetic mounts;
  • mounting double-sided adhesive tape;
  • reliable double-sided tape (automobile);
  • Velcro Fasteners Command (or another company);
  • special brackets that have various options for fixing to the frame: they are fixed on adhesive tape, tape or on glued plates, screwed with self-tapping screws or cling to the top of the opening sash.

Cassette roller blinds or systemUni

They are attached directly to the sash of a plastic window with adhesive tape, tape or Velcro.

Roller blindsMini

For fastening, they also use double-sided tape (adhesive tape, Velcro), on which special areas are glued to the frame. The canvas is fixed on them with brackets. When placing rolled sheets on the opening sash, magnets are additionally installed that attract the blinds.

Screwing the bracket with self-tapping screws to the sash of a plastic window must be done carefully, as there is a risk of damaging the gasket

Roll curtains

Mounting on brackets, tape, tape or Velcro is possible.

Before gluing adhesive tape or adhesive tape, the frame must be thoroughly washed, wiped dry and degreased with an alcohol solution. If you use Velcro, follow the instructions on the package.

Horizontal systems with wooden (bamboo), aluminum or plastic slats (lamellas)

You can hang the blinds on the window using special clips that are attached to the upper and lower parts of the sash, and a cable is pulled between them.

Horizontal systems are hung over the entire width of the window or separately for each sash

For a complete picture of how to hang blinds without drilling using various mounts we suggest watching the following video:

All shutter systems are usually equipped with detailed instruction manufacturer, installation diagram and a set of necessary fasteners.

Drilled fasteners

This type of installation is much more reliable and durable, since the screws screwed into the window frame or wall better withstand the weight of the structure and the constant mechanical loads that fall on it.

Drilling requires precise measurements and perfect horizontal alignment using a spirit level.

Drilling the frame damages the window profile. Although they are insignificant (they do not violate sound and heat insulation), but if you decide to remove the blinds in the future, when removing the structure, there will be noticeable traces that will have to be masked, for example, with silicone or liquid plastic. Roll or horizontal systems are usually placed inside the window. To hang vertical blinds - drill the ceiling or wall above the window opening.

Installation with drilling can be carried out independently or entrusted to specialists

For installation you will need:

  • pencil;
  • building level;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill (with drills 3 and 6 mm);
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver (flat or Phillips).

First, we mark the places for mounting plates or brackets: we measure 6 cm from the glass on both sides and mark with a pencil the places for the upcoming drilling. The line between the marked holes must be checked with a level so that it is strictly horizontal. This is important for the correct and long-term operation of the blind system. A window profile (especially not a new one) may crack when screwing in screws, so it is recommended that you first use a thin drill in the marked fastening points, and then screw the screws into the prepared holes.

On opening windows, holes for mounting brackets are made in the upper part of the sash

Holes for screws for brackets are drilled in the upper part of the sash (on opening windows) or on the outside of the glazing bead (on blind windows). Then you need to hang the blinds, securing them in the brackets. When placing the blinds system inside the window opening, a fishing line (retainer) is pulled to hold the rolled canvas or lamellas near the glass when the sashes are opened. A hole for the fishing line is drilled in the lower glazing bead (below the main ones) or on the side of the sash, the latch is threaded into the plugs, achieving medium tension, and tied into a knot. On the mounted structure, all decorative and working parts are installed: platbands, latches, mounts for the lever and chain.

Fastening of blinds construction elements to window glazing beads can break the glass, so use the smallest screws.

When it is necessary to hang vertical blinds, the marking and subsequent drilling is performed on the vertical surface of the wall or on the ceiling. The remaining structural elements are screwed to the static brackets fixed with screws.

A cornice with a special fastening system (runners) for vertical slats is mounted on static brackets.

To securely fix the brackets, dowels are inserted into the drilled holes and screws or screws are screwed in. A cornice with a special fastening system (runners) for vertical slats is mounted on the brackets.

Each slat of vertical blinds is individually fixed to the cornice so that it can move and turn freely.

After hanging all the slats on the runners, attach the weights provided at the bottom and hang the chain connecting them. Then install the decorative panel into the mounting brackets, closing it on both sides with end corners and side panels. It remains only to check how the blinds system that you have hung works.

When choosing a system and materials, proceed from the conditions and purpose of the room in which you plan to hang the blinds, see the table.

Some types of lamellas have a protective impregnation (against fading), which can be erased or washed off with too frequent cleaning. Therefore, it is important not only to hang the blinds correctly, but also to provide them with proper care and careful operation.

The mechanisms for adjusting the blinds must be handled carefully: avoid sharp jerks and rotations in order to maintain their functionality for a long time.

We hope that our tips will be useful to you, and now you can hang your own blinds. Share your experience in the comments. Rating: 5.00 (5 votes)
