Indoor roses: photos and names of varieties for growing at home

Many hostesses are attracted to indoor roses, because amazing miniature views have appeared on sale that just ask for a windowsill. There are also many photos and names of varieties of these beauties in magazines, but not all of them are resistant to diseases. Let's go over the most successful varieties and get acquainted with the rules for caring for roses at home.

Indoor roses: types, photos and names of varieties for growing at home

We note right away that for growing in room conditions there are no special varieties of roses bred just for this. Although today the famous rose-growing companies of Meyyan, Meyland and others offer small and compact container hybrids that grow and develop well in small amounts of land.

Mostly for home cultivation, ordinary garden roses are used, which are small in size, since this crop needs a lot of light and enough space to feel good.

Best suited for growing indoors hybrid tea roses, low polyanthus, miniature and container hybrids, as well as Bengal from the group of old roses.

But from our point of view, it is Bengal roses that are best suited for growing at home, since they do not require pruning, they branch well and do not grow much in height. In addition, strong pruning is even contraindicated for them, as it can lead to the death of plants. The great advantages of this rose are the compact form of the bush and long flowering. Semi-double medium-sized roses of this species have almost no smell. Interestingly, they are often called Chinese or Indian, as in European countries they came from Bengal and China.

When choosing a variety for growing indoors, the presence and strength of the aroma must be taken into account. After all, not all people can withstand strong odors that can cause headache and even allergies. But if, nevertheless, the choice fell on a rose that has a pronounced aroma, then it is better not to put it next to a place to sleep.

Varieties of indoor roses (with a description and photos of the most successful miniatures)

  • The variety "Baby Masquerade" (Baby Masquerade) usually reaches a height of about 30 cm. On fairly strong, slightly branched shoots that form a narrow bush, there are almost no thorns. Small beautiful dark green leaves with a shiny surface perfectly set off spectacular chameleon flowers with a width of three to four centimeters. They bloom in inflorescences, consisting of 3-12 pieces. Their color changes several times during flowering. At first it is lemon yellow, then it turns into pink, and then into watercolor red. Delicate aroma of fruit persists throughout the flowering, which is practically uninterrupted. This rose resists various diseases well.
  • Sort "Angela Rippon" (Angela Rippon) refers to miniature roses. During flowering, it is covered with many small flowers with a width of three to four centimeters with a strong pleasant aroma. They are formed in inflorescences, consisting of 3-5 pieces. Low and compact bushes about 40 cm high are created by branched shoots with a large number of small dense leaves of a dark green hue. During cultivation, preventive treatments against powdery mildew and black spot are mandatory. Plants do not require pruning. This variety feels great in pots and other small containers. Top dressing of such plants is carried out in small doses, but often enough.
  • The variety "Easter Morning" (Easter Morning) attracts attention with a rather high resistance to fungal diseases. Thick and neat bushes consist of a large number upright shoots with harsh dark green leaves with a sheen. Hustomahrovye flowers of creamy white color, about 4 centimeters wide, have a faint aroma. They bloom in inflorescences, numbering up to 25 pieces. Lush bloom continues almost without interruption.
  • Compact bushes of the Fire Princess variety (Fire Princess) reach a height of 30 to 40 cm. They are formed from branched shoots looking upwards, which are covered with attractive shiny dark green leaves with small teeth along the edges. Terry flowers with a diameter of three to four centimeters are painted in a reddish-orange hue. They are formed on the tops of shoots in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces. This rose is affected by powdery mildew and black spot.
  • Under the name of the variety "Hummingbird" (Colibri), there are two roses that were bred by the well-known company of Meiland. The first appeared in 1958, and the second two decades later. Narrow and rather dense bushes about 35 centimeters high are formed by slightly deviated and slightly branched shoots with dense shiny leaves, painted in a dark green tint. Medium-sized (from 4 to 5 cm) double flowers consist of 25 petals and have a pleasant delicate tea aroma. Flower color can vary from yellowish orange to intense apricot with a yellow tinge. Roses are arranged in inflorescences, consisting of 3 to 5 pieces. Lush flowering is repeated several times.
  • Variety "Yellow Dol" (Yellow Doll) was obtained in 1962. Small and neat bushes about 30 cm in size during lush flowering are covered with a large number of large fragrant flowers, which are painted in a bright yellow-lemon shade. The number of petals on one flower can reach up to 50.
  • The Stars and Stripes variety was bred in 1975 in the USA by the famous breeder Ralph Moore. This is the first cultivar to have stripes on the petals and has gone on to become the parent of many striped roses. Spectacular narrow bushes with a height of 40 to 50 cm consist of branched straight shoots with almost no thorns. beautiful leaves painted in light green. Terry white flowers have a large number of crimson stripes of various widths. They are arranged in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces. Flowering lasts almost continuously.
  • Not very large, but wide bushes of the Green Ice variety, about 0.6 meters high and 0.8 meters wide, also belong to miniature roses. They attract attention with high resistance to such dangerous diseases as black spot and powdery mildew. This rose was created in 1971 in the USA. Terry roses three to four centimeters wide appear on the bushes in waves, but even in breaks there are always a few blooming roses. The original color of the flowers attracts attention. White roses bloom from pink buds green tint. There is a small green spot in the center of the rose. Attractive dark green leaves favorably emphasize inflorescences consisting of three to five roses.

How to choose plants in a store or garden center

When choosing a rose for a room, be sure to pay attention to appearance bush. It should look attractive and fresh. All branches and leaves should be green, juicy, without any spots and dried tips. It is worth making sure that the young shoots are not elongated. The determining factor when buying roses for home growing is health, not the number of buds on the plant.

You should also pay attention to the roots and stems of the bush. They should not have any dried areas and damage. If the plant is sold in a pot or some other container, then the soil in the container should be soft, breathable and free of insects on the surface, not to mention signs of decay.

Remember that in no case should you buy rose bushes with fallen leaves or with a whitish bloom on the leaves, since for beginners the chance of such plants coming out is very small. And, besides, money, time and a large amount of effort will be spent.

Room rose care (basic requirements)

Growing roses at home requires certain knowledge and heightened attention. But even with proper and careful care, rose bushes sometimes die. In this case, do not be discouraged - most likely, the immunity of the plant was greatly damaged by any chemistry. We will “wean” them from excess salts, and immediately after the purchase.

What to do immediately after purchase

For the first time (about a week), a newly bought rose is placed on a fairly light windowsill (preferably northern) without direct sunlight. At the end of this time, sanitize with soapy water. They need to wipe each leaf on both sides, as well as shoots. Then the plant is placed under the shower for a few seconds.

If drying buds and tips of leaves began to appear on the bush, then it is urgent to carry out a transplant with a complete replacement of the soil. And the thing is that the companies involved in the cultivation of container plants on an industrial scale, mainly think about making a good profit, and not about the long life of the flower after it is sold.

Actually, most of the flowering plants are sold as a "living bouquet", which is designed for one or two months of life in room conditions. Therefore, an excess amount of various fertilizers is often added to the soil, which rose bushes simply cannot withstand. In this regard, it is desirable to carry out a complete replacement of the soil in a container or pot. There are several points of view about the time of its holding.

Some flower lovers believe that such a transplant should be carried out only a couple of months after the purchase. Others suggest not to wait so long, but to replace the soil one to two weeks after the acquisition. So who is right?

It seems that you should not rush to transplant if you were bought. They are usually planted 3-4 pieces in one container and brought to flowering. Such young plants must be given time for good rooting and development. And after some time, the plants can be carefully divided and planted in separate small pots.

But if only one rose grows in a container, then it can immediately be transplanted into nutritious fresh soil that is suitable for the composition of this culture. At the bottom of the tank, it is imperative to pour a layer of drainage from 2 to 3 centimeters high. Medium-sized expanded clay is best suited for this.

During transplantation, it is advisable to remove from the roots (gently and carefully) as much old soil as possible (especially if it was peat). Since even a small amount of it left on the roots will quickly lead your rose bush to death.

Also, when changing the soil, it is imperative to inspect the root system. If some roots have a lifeless appearance and a dark brown color (and they should be light), then they are cut off. If the root system has been shortened sufficiently, then it should be treated with a special substance that stimulates the growth and development of roots (in the form of powder), and then the plant is planted. This may be heteroauxin, indolylbutyric acid and preparations containing them in their composition.

After a transplant with a complete replacement of the soil, the buds must be removed so that the plant spends its strength not on flowering, but on rooting, which lasts from two to three weeks.

How to water an indoor rose at home

When caring for a rose, it is worth remembering that in a hot summer time or during the operation of radiators on full power, it requires regular watering, which allows you to keep the soil in a moderately wet state. Here you need to adhere to the "golden mean". It is impossible to allow the earthen clod to dry completely, but it is also impossible to leave water after watering for longer than half an hour. The pallet must always be dry, stagnant water is sharply contraindicated. During the hot period, roses are watered every day, and sprayed weekly.

Top dressing of indoor roses

The lush flowering of indoor roses lasts almost continuously throughout the year, and for this they need a large amount of nutrients and strength. Therefore, both organic and mineral fertilizers are used for top dressing. Organo-mineral fertilizers, which contain organic matter, mineral components and micronutrient fertilizers, are best suited for this. They are available in small handy packs. Use any fertilizer according to the instructions.

A little about the dormant period

Indoor roses sometimes need to organize a rest and it is best that it falls between October and February, when the level of lighting is quite low. To do this, it is desirable to transfer the plant to a room with a temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. And before that, it is necessary to remove nitrogen from dressings in early September, so that new shoots with leaves no longer grow, and their full ripening has passed.

Watering during this period of time is minimized, but at the same time, a strong drying of the earthen coma is not allowed. With the onset of February, the rose bush is brought into a warm room, they begin to carry out regular feeding and watering. In just a few weeks, the plant will have new shoots and leaves, and in the spring flowering will begin, during which it is necessary to remove dried flowers.

What to pay special attention to

When growing roses at home, there are a few things that should not be done under any circumstances.

  • The first thing to know is that roses categorically do not like heat and overheating. Maximum temperature for it is considered 25 degrees Celsius. This culture tolerates low temperatures much more easily than high ones. In this regard, you can not place this plant on the southern windowsills in the summer, as this will lead to the death of the bushes due to intense sunlight and heat.
  • When growing, you need to pay attention to the moisture content of the earth clod, since the rose reacts sharply to excessive moisture, which leads to the appearance of fungal diseases and rotting of the roots.

In summer, all varieties of indoor roses can be put on a loggia or veranda. Accustom them to street conditions gradually, taking them out for several hours. And in the fall, before bringing the plants into the apartment, they must be thoroughly washed first with soapy water, and then under running water, so as not to bring spider mites from the street.

As you can see, these so-called “room” roses are not so capricious, and the listed species with photos and names of varieties will surely inspire you to give these miniature queens a place on the windowsill.

Varieties of miniature roses (Miniature Rose) are famous for their abundant, almost continuous flowering and beautiful bush, always densely covered with graceful foliage. They have, as well as garden roses, may be the most diverse shape and color of flowers.

Miniature roses are descended from the Chinese rose "Minima", which was first brought to Europe from China in 1810. They soon disappeared from sight. All attention was paid to the appearance of remontant roses, new for that time.

The revival of mini roses is associated with the appearance of two varieties: the dwarf small-flowered "Pompon de Paris" and that small rose "Rouletii", which ensured the existence of a miniature group in the future.

Dutch breeder Jean de Winck began using "Rouletii" in hybridization with the polyanthus "Gloria Mundi". Later, the variety he developed was commercially named "Tom Thumb" and in 1936 became the first patented miniature rose in the United States.

Among the varieties of miniature roses, there is even a blue rose "Lavander Jewel", a variety "Green Ice" with a greenish tint (see photo below), and another, no less original - "Stars & Stripes" ("Stars and Stripes"), with large white flowers, red stripes. Some varieties are distinguished by an unusually delicate, delicate aroma, for example: "Lavander Lace", "Sweet Fairy".

Bushes of miniature roses usually reach a height of 15-25 cm. True, sometimes old plants grow up to 40-45 cm. Flowers are 1.5-2 cm in diameter, densely double, collected in inflorescences, rarely solitary. One of the smallest varieties is the tussock-shaped yellow rose "Yellow Bantam".

Among the climbing "mini-roses" the "Hi-Ho" variety deserves attention, with the original coral-red color of the flowers, and "Red Cascade" are distinguished by unusually abundant flowering. They bloom on the shoots of both the previous and this year. The lashes of these miniature roses can reach a meter in length.

Mini rose variety "Green Ice"

The photo shows a variety of miniature roses with a greenish tint "Green Ice" (Green Ice). The flowers are densely double, in the old style. The buds and flower of this original mini rose have pinkish outer petals at the start of flowering. However, as it blooms, the flower turns white and acquires a greenish tint.

Bush rose "Green Ice" branched, sprawling, reaches 30-60 cm in height and width. The foliage is juicy, dark green, shiny. Blooms profusely in early summer followed by repeated waves in summer and autumn. Strong resistance to powdery mildew and black spot.

"Green Ice" looks great in a rose garden, rock garden, can grow in pots and serve as a color accent on a balcony, terrace or front garden.

Characteristics of miniature roses

bengal red rose(Rosa bengalensis) - the most common and perhaps the most adaptable variety of miniature house roses with small evergreen leaves. It is not particularly demanding in care, it is perfect for keeping in the house. It bushes well, grows low in room conditions, does not need pruning, only weak and dead shoots can be removed. If such a rose is cut short, it may die. This variety has a long flowering, until the New Year, however, it may be required artificial lighting. It does not shed its leaves for the winter. Flowers from bright red to dark red, medium-sized, semi-double, there are varieties with a pleasant fragrance.

Polyanthus roses (Rosa polyanta) have a pleasant aroma, are not capricious and do quite well in pots. The bushes are strongly branched, on average about 50 cm tall. The flowers are usually pink, red, sometimes white. Obtained as a result of crossing Chinese and multi-flowered roses. This group of roses contains the following varieties:

  • "Miniature" - the variety is a small miniature bush, blooms with double flowers of white or Pink colour. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that this rosette is absolutely ideal for rooms, it is easily propagated by cuttings, already on the 4-5th day, the cutting, which is in the water, sprouts roots, quickly takes root in the spring and summer. It tolerates winter well at room conditions, does not suffer from excessive humidity in the room.
  • "Triumph" - a more lush plant with large leaves of a rounded shape. It blooms from spring and almost until the very winter with double bright red flowers. The aroma of the flowers is slightly noticeable. In order for the flowering to be long, the plant needs to be fed. V winter period indoor rose feels fine on a cool windowsill.
  • "Gloria" - roses of this species are distinguished by a rare color of flowers similar to the color of embers. Bush small size with small leaves. The flowers are small, non-double, odorless, long lasting. This variety does not tolerate wintering in warm rooms. In winter, the rosette should be provided with long-term rest with coolness, t not higher than 10 degrees.
  • "Clotilde" - medium-sized bushes with small leaves, flowers are double and fragrant. The newly blossomed rose flower has a delicate light pink color with a bright center. A few days later, the rose flower seems to burn out, becoming white color. It tolerates winter well in a warm room near a cool window.

bourbon rose- you can’t call this variety at all - mini. Forms a fairly large bush with tender leaves and full large flowers. The buds last a long time, have different shades: cream, pale pink, rich red. It starts blooming late, somewhere in the middle of July, it stops too late, until the New Year holidays, your window sill will look like a fairy garden.

In March, varieties of Bourbon roses lose almost all of their foliage. They release new branches, quickly gain strength, overgrown with young greens. The only problem this plant can give you is difficult rooting. It is best to carry out cuttings in April, using a growth stimulator.

"Souvenir de la Malmaison"- a late flowering variety of Bourbon rose with fragrant leaves on several curved shoots, forms a fairly large bush. The flowers are large, from pale pink and cream to dark rich colors, and last quite a long time. Flowering from mid-June to January, then they arrange a short rest (January-February). This variety of roses winters well in rooms and does not require a cool room. In March, it sheds foliage, after which it forms many young shoots, which very quickly acquire new leaves.

It should be borne in mind that if you make a short (up to 5-7 eyes) pruning in the spring, then the flowers of the rose may form fewer, but larger in size. If the pruning is small (by 2-3 eyes), then the roses may have more flowers, but smaller. The cuttings of this variety take root rather poorly, even with a growth stimulator. It is better to transfer rooting to March-April, so that the roots of the Bourbon rose can develop well by the beginning of winter. Otherwise, the fragile rose will die. You will need top dressing once a week or two, from March to September. Resistant to powdery mildew.

tea roses(Rosa tea) form lush bushes up to 30 cm in height. Young shoots are brownish-red, leaves are large. Some species (Marshal Niel) are characterized by the presence of a large number of thorns, both on the stems and on reverse side sheet. They have a long flowering period. Terry flowers of various kinds color shades with an unusual "tea" aroma. Tea roses hibernate in coolness with t not higher than 8-10 degrees, do not tolerate dampness and cold.

Many varieties of tea roses are good for home cultivation, such as "Nifetos", "Marshal Niel", "Madame Falco", hybrid tea roses (fragrant "La France", "Ophelia", "Miss Rowena Tom", "Jules Boucher" , "Grousse en Teplitz")...

Chinese rose- This is the smallest variety of indoor roses. Her flowers are very small, about 2 cm in diameter, and the bush itself grows no more than 15 cm in height. There are many varieties of Chinese rose, differing in the color of the buds and the structure of the flower. Some of them smell strongly, while others have no smell at all. Red, yellow, orange, burgundy, even silvery shades of the Chinese mini-rose have won the hearts of many flower growers. Most varieties require a cold winter.

Irish rose- differs from many other varieties in the unusual structure of the flower, resembling a tulip flower in shape. The color of the flowers is also unusual and attractive - a pale apricot color, after a while it does not fade. Flowering from late April to September. The bush is not lush with thin shoots. The leaves are small and elongated with strongly serrated edges. The rose leaf is dark green above, green below with a lilac tint. To make the plant stronger and the flowers large, the thinnest shoots are cut off, leaving 3-4 large branches. For wintering, it is preferable to choose a cool room. Already in February, the rose begins a period of growth. The cuttings quickly sprout roots and take root in the soil.

Repair roses- large bushes are suitable for keeping at home. The flowers of this variety of roses are rare and large, white, pink or red. Prefers cool wintering at t not higher than 5-7 degrees Celsius. It is very difficult to propagate a remontant rose by cuttings, so experienced flower growers graft it onto a wild rose.

The variety of roses is so huge that it is difficult to decide at a glance which culture is right for you. Types of roses with photos, names and descriptions are a great opportunity to choose the right plants for your home and garden, because each variety of this flower has its own growing and care characteristics.

From this article you will learn what types of garden and indoor flowers are, what features of cultivation they are characterized by, and photos and videos will help you distinguish between different hybrids in appearance.

What types of roses are

The rose is one of the most ancient flowers. According to archaeologists, the first flowers appeared on Earth about 25 million years ago, and they have existed in culture for 5 thousand years. Even before our era, they were cultivated in India and China, and their image was used to decorate the walls of the tombs of the pharaohs.

Scientists believe that Persia is the birthplace of modern culture, but this flower was loved and revered in many countries of the world. For example, in Ancient Greece she was even worshiped, considering her not only a beautiful, but also a useful flower.

The Greek scientist Theophrastus made the first detailed description of the culture and the peculiarities of caring for it. But they became especially popular in ancient Rome, where they were considered a symbol of courage and used to decorate banquet halls. It was the Romans who began to use both fragrant water and oil for the preparation of cosmetics and medicines. In addition, the petals began to be used in cooking and winemaking.

Note: Since the Romans used the culture and its petals everywhere, it was they who first began to cultivate this flower, growing it not only in open ground, but also in greenhouses.

But the popularity of the plant was not stable. After huge popularity during the times of ancient Rome, the flower fell out of favor in new era, as it served as a living reminder of the depravity and vices of the Romans. A particularly strong negative attitude appeared during the formation of Christianity, since love for this flower was considered a sign of paganism. Later, it was dedicated to the Mother of God, and the whites - to Mary Magdalene.

New varieties (for example, musky, damask) appeared in southwestern Europe during the Arab conquests in the 8th-12th centuries. During this period, the flowers were dusted among themselves and cultivated by man, but still they differed in a single flowering, and only in the 18th century were brought to Europe perennial species, blooming repeatedly. It was they who became the main for modern hybrids (Figure 1).

Figure 1. Species diversity of roses

A special love for culture was experienced in France. Rose gardens were created here and new varieties were bred. In Russia, these flowers began to be actively cultivated in the 19th century, and the Nikitsky Botanical Garden became the first center for breeding new types (about 100 domestic hybrids were bred in it). At the moment, selection work continues, and the number of subspecies already exceeds 2.5 thousand.

Peculiarities

At the moment there are about 30 thousand types of culture. All of them are divided into wild (botanical) and garden varieties.

A flower is classified by origin, external features (flower shape, bush height, leaf structure) and biological characteristics (resistance to diseases and cold, flowering duration).

Note: Since the plant has been cultivated for a long time, its classification is considered conditional, since it is difficult to clearly determine the belonging of individual varieties to certain species. This is due to the fact that the most ancient of them went through a long period of formation and mixed with others for many centuries.

Figure 2. Popular varieties: 1 - park, 2 - Chinese, 3 - repair, 4 - hybrid tea

The most valuable and popular are the park, hybrid tea, miniature, climbing and ground cover groups:

  • Park(Figure 3) were cultivated in antiquity (French, Provencal and moss). They bloom once and have a strong aroma. This group also includes a hybrid - a wrinkled rose, on the basis of which many other species have been created, characterized by a wide color variety.
  • Chinese, multiflora and multiflora were brought to Europe from China. Chinese is also called Bengali (Figure 3). Their flowers have almost no fragrance, but appear almost all year round. It was the Bengali variety that became the basis for the creation of the tea type. It is distinguished by graceful flowers and a rich aroma. But they do not have resistance to disease and cold, and when grown in open ground, they require careful care.
  • Repair were created on the basis of the Portland variety (a hybrid of Damascus and Chinese). They are distinguished by repeated flowering, but, unlike tea leaves, they tolerate cold well.
  • Hybrid tea group appeared due to the crossing of tea and repair species. It is the species of this group that are widely used in modern world, since cultures are not only distinguished by long flowering, but also undemanding to the content.
  • polyanthus(Figure 3) were obtained by crossing multiflorous and Chinese varieties. The result is a hybrid that grows into a low compact shrub with branching branches and small flowers that retain their freshness and fragrance for a long time. They tolerate cold well and are easily propagated by cuttings or roots (for example, Dick Koster, Muttertag).
  • floribunda- a special group that was bred on the basis of dwarf and hybrid tea varieties (Figure 3). Their main feature is intense and long flowering, and the flowers are collected in fairly large inflorescences. It is floribundas that are used for landscaping, as they propagate easily, are highly resistant to cold and are undemanding to the conditions of detention.
  • miniature- plants obtained by crossing low polyanthus with other varieties. Such plants are distinguished by small flowers with a rich aroma that appear on the bushes almost continuously throughout the year if the crop is grown in an apartment.
  • In the middle of the last century, a separate group of grandiflora was bred (floribunda hybrids with hybrid tea). Representatives of this group bloom for a long time and profusely, differ in color and size, and the bushes grow quite large (up to one and a half meters).
  • Group of climbing crops(Figure 4) was obtained by crossing bred varieties with wild ones. The main feature is small flowers collected in small inflorescences and long weaving stems that need support (Dorothy Perkins, Excelsa). As a rule, climbing hybrids bloom once, but there are species with repeated flowering ("New Dawn").
  • ground cover group - varieties bred on the basis of Chinese and Vihura roses (Figure 4). They are creeping shrubs with dark green leaves and small flowers. They cover the ground with a dense carpet, and due to their resistance to disease and cold, they are easily cultivated ("Swany" and "Snow Ballet").

Figure 3. Types of roses: 1 - polyanthus, 2 - floribunda, 3 - miniature

Additionally, there is a group of semi-climbing crops, but they are conventionally distinguished, since this group includes flowers that are not included in other categories. The flowers of this group are distinguished by abundant, but uneven flowering, resistance to disease and cold. They are easily propagated by grafting or cuttings.

Recently, French breeders have bred completely new hybrids, which they combined into a group of landscape flowers. They have a high decorative value, and due to the abundant and long flowering, they are actively used for landscaping. From the video you will find out what hybrids of these colors exist.

Characteristic

According to the botanical classification, the flower belongs to the Rosaceae family. In the wild, there are about 400 varieties (they are called wild roses). Mostly wild flowers are found in temperate climates, but there are species growing in the subtropics and the Arctic.

Figure 4. Ornamental species: 1 - grandiflora, 2 - climbing, 3 - ground cover

Breeders regularly develop new flower hybrids, making them more adapted to various growing conditions. The variety of types is amazing:

  • Most species are multi-stemmed shrubs, deciduous and evergreen;
  • There are vine-like varieties that form garlands of flowers;
  • Cultures also differ in height: from dwarf bushes, up to 15 cm high, to huge shrubs that can grow up to 10 m.

As a rule, the stems are covered with thorns, but there are cultures without them. Flowers are bisexual, arranged singly or in small inflorescences.

Roses differ in the number of petals in the inflorescence(picture 5):

  • Simple (from 4 to 7 petals);
  • Semi-double (for 8-20 petals);
  • Moderately double (21-29 petals);
  • Medium terry (30-39);
  • Gustomahrovye (the number of petals exceeds 40).

The shapes of the petals are also varied. They can be flat, pointed or curved, forming inflorescences in the form of a bowl, a ball. Flowers can be goblet, have a square center, or resemble a camellia or carnation.

Thanks to breeding work, it was possible to bring out hybrids of a wide variety of shades, although pink, white and yellow tones are considered the most common. There are cultures that change the color of the petals as the flower ages, as well as flowers with striped or streaked colors.

Note: It is believed that all roses smell the same. But it is not so. Pink and dark red cultures have a typical smell, other varieties have a fruity aroma or no smell at all.

Depending on the variety, the crops are grown in bush and standard forms, using them to decorate borders and flower beds. Weaving is used to decorate walls and other vertical surfaces. Ground covers are used for landscaping slopes. Tea hybrids are grown for decorative purposes and for cutting in open ground and greenhouses.

The rose is valued not only for its decorative effect, but also for its healing properties. Roots and fruits are used in traditional medicine. In Japan, fruits are used for cooking, as they contain a lot of carotene and vitamins.

Indoor rose: types, photos and names

Types of room roses with photos and names are so diverse that even beginner flower growers will be able to choose a beautiful and unpretentious type for themselves.

If you are interested in what types of this culture are, we recommend that you read their detailed description with photos and names and (Figure 6):

  1. Bengal- a low-growing culture that forms a lush bush with flowers of a wide variety of shades, from white to bright red. This is one of the most unpretentious species that does not require shaping pruning. It is enough to periodically remove dry and damaged branches. The plant requires moderate watering, and the humidity level of an ordinary city apartment is great for this species.
  2. polyanthus were obtained by crossing different garden species. As a result, the height of an adult shrub rarely exceeds 50 cm, but at the same time the bush is quite lush, and the flowers can be double or collected in a brush.
  3. teahouses also suitable for growing indoors. However, bush varieties should be preferred, since if a whip-shaped variety was put at the basis of the species, the plant can grow up to two meters in height.

Figure 6. Varieties of indoor crops: 1 - Bengal, 2 - polyanthus, 3 - tea

When growing indoor culture, make sure that the plant has enough light. You can place a flower pot on any windowsill, except for the northern one. In winter, daylight hours are artificially extended using fluorescent lamps. Overheating of the plant should not be allowed, since under such conditions the root system may begin to rot, and the culture itself will be more susceptible to disease. Feeding should be carried out periodically, and watering should be moderate: it is made more intense only during the flowering period.

Types of musk roses

Musk roses are also called landscape roses, as they are great for decorating the site, but at the same time they are distinguished by unpretentious care and endurance.

Note: This group got its name due to its pronounced and rich aroma, which is a bit like the smell of musk.

There are several popular types of musk roses, photos and names of which are the same. e (Figure 7):

  1. Cornelia- a hybrid with a wide variety of shades of inflorescences, from white to bright pink;
  2. buff beauty differs in unusual apricot color of inflorescences;
  3. Felice- an unusual breeding hybrid, the petals of which are pink inside and apricot outside.
  4. pax also refers to the two-color types, since the buds are mostly white, but with a yellow center.

Figure 7. Popular varieties of musk roses: 1 - Cornelia, 2 - Buff Beauty, 3 - Pax

Despite the fact that musk species are considered hardy and unpretentious, they still require some care. For example, to make flowering more intense, you need to carry out spring pruning, and during the flowering period, add special dressings to the soil. In addition, some musk hybrids do not tolerate partial shade well, so they are best planted in well-lit areas with protection from drafts.

Types of Chinese roses with photos and names

The second name of the Chinese rose is hibiscus, and outwardly this flower does not look like ordinary inflorescences. This is a very popular plant among gardeners, not only because of the unpretentiousness of growing conditions, but also because of the wide variety of species.

Note: In total, there are about 300 varieties of this plant. All of them differ in the color of the buds, height and shape of the bush.

Types and varieties of Chinese roses suitable for Russian gardeners are such(picture 8):

  • Tree-like, for example, the Syrian rose, grows in the form of a small tree, and with regular formative pruning - in the form of a compact shrub.
  • Herbaceous include marsh hibiscus and hybrid. Unlike other types of Chinese rose, which are perennials, herbaceous varieties are annuals that die off completely in autumn.

Figure 8. Varieties of Chinese rose: 1 - Syrian, 2 - marsh hibiscus, 3 - ternary hibiscus

It is noteworthy that there are special frost-resistant varieties of hibiscus, specially adapted for growing in our climate. For example, the trifoliate (northern) hibiscus seems outwardly inconspicuous, but during flowering it can become a real decoration of the garden. In addition, it tolerates low temperatures well and does not have special care requirements. The only condition is that you need to plant such a Chinese rose on a site with good lighting and loose fertile soil.

Types of roses with photos and names: floribunda

Floribunda roses compared to hybrid tea varieties, practically odorless, and their flowers are not so large. But at the same time, they are considered quite popular due to several important advantages.

Firstly, their flowering period lasts all summer, and the number of inflorescences on one bush can be very large. Secondly, these varieties are resistant to most diseases and do not require as much care as other species. In addition, there are many varieties of this type, so you can choose several types for your garden that will differ in the shape, size and color of the buds.

Among the most popular varieties of floribunda roses, I highlight t (Figure 9):

  1. Raffles- a variety with unusually shaped flowers that resemble lace. Blooms from early summer to late autumn. It is unpretentious, but requires shelter for the winter.
  2. floribunda kimon o - a hybrid with delicate peach inflorescences. Looks great both in a single planting and in combination with other flower crops.
  3. floribunda nina weibull- a variety with bright red flowers that bloom until late autumn. Differs in resistance to diseases and low temperatures.

Figure 9. Varieties of floribunda roses: 1 - Raffles, 2 - Kimono, 3 - Nina Weibul

Most varieties of floribunda are used to decorate borders and create flower arrangements, but they will also look great in a single planting.

Types of climbing roses with photos and names

The main advantage of climbing types over other varieties is a flexible stem, which is tied to supports for decorating arbors, fences and building walls.

Kinds climbing roses very diverse, so we will give only the main ones, with photos and names(Figure 10):

  1. Golden Gate- a semi-climbing culture that throws out many shoots, the length of which can reach 4 meters. Yellow velvety flowers are collected in large inflorescences.
  2. Snow Goose- a variety of climbing culture with small flowers that abundantly cover the entire bush. If the growing conditions were met, up to 25 inflorescences can be on one brush. Feature varieties - the complete absence of thorns, but it can only be grown in a vertical plane, tying the stems to the supports.
  3. Santana- climbing variety with large bright red inflorescences. The height of the bush rarely exceeds 3 meters, but at the same time, the seedlings take root perfectly on any soil, are resistant to disease and cold.

Figure 10. Popular climbing varieties: 1 - Golden Gate, 2 - Snow Goose, 3 - Santana

It is important to consider that most climbing varieties they do not tolerate shade well, so sunny areas are used for their cultivation. In addition, a prerequisite for care is the installation of supports to which the flexible stems of the plant will be attached.

Types of garden roses: photos and names

It is difficult to briefly describe all types of garden types of culture, since they are presented in a very wide variety.

We will try to describe the most popular varieties of garden roses by type.(picture 11):

  • Miniature (Patio)- These are small bushes with a large number of small inflorescences. One of the most popular varieties is considered Laurence - a dwarf copy of the Bengal rose, which will look great in a small outdoor pot or on the border.
  • ground covers- plants with long creeping shoots and small inflorescences. They are frost-resistant and long flowering. Among the popular varieties are Nozomi, Snow Carpet and Candy Rose.
  • Park will be an excellent decoration of the garden, because they bloom profusely and do not require special care. The most valuable variety is rugosa, which is distinguished by large flowers with a strong aroma.

Figure 11. Popular species and varieties of garden types (from left to right): miniature, Nozomi variety, Snow Carpet variety, rose rugosa

In addition, there are curly, curb and standard hybrids, which are also represented by a wide variety of varieties. Thanks to this, this beautiful flower can be grown in any climate and on almost any soil.

Indoor plants rose is a favorite species bush flower, which decorates a wide variety of interiors of apartments, houses and offices. Quite whimsical to the conditions of its habitat and the rules of agricultural care. Often affected by spider mites. Therefore, we recommend that you read the description of the rose plant with a photo, study the recommendations for caring for it at home.

It is difficult to find a garden that does not have at least one rose bush. In the rooms, the "queen of flowers" is a rarer guest, but recently more and more dwarf varieties have appeared, blooming profusely throughout the year.

Description of the rose plant with a photo

The birthplace of cultivated roses is the subtropical regions of Southeast Asia. In a room culture, interspecific hybrids are grown, in the breeding of which a fragrant rose, or tea, and a Chinese rose were used. We offer a description of the rose plant.

Also you can look indoor plant rose in the photo:

Rose fragrant, or tea (Rosa odorata)- an evergreen shrub up to 1 m high with erect or branched shoots, dense dark green compound leaves, consisting of five leaflets, and single, or arranged in several pieces at the ends of the shoots, large flowers of various colors with a pleasant aroma of tea.

Look at the rose plants in the photo:

Chinese rose plant

Chinese rose plant (Rosa chinensis)- an evergreen shrub (15-30 cm high) with erect or drooping shoots, pinnate leaves consisting of five lanceolate leaves, and single double or simple flowers of white or pink color. The red young stems and leaves of this species turn green as they mature.

rose houseplant care

Next, we will tell you about how to care for a houseplant rose. The best location for the rose bush is a bright, sunny, well-ventilated, but draft-free place. In spring, the rose is taken out into the garden, where it is transplanted into open ground or to the balcony. In autumn and winter, plants are kept in a cool room with a temperature of +5 +8 ° C, starting from February, the temperature is raised to +18 ° C. In winter, artificial lighting is desirable. Roses can be watered only with settled water under the root or in a pan, plentifully from spring to autumn, moderately in winter.

When planting, be sure to fill in a good drainage layer so that the water in the pot does not stagnate.

During the active growing season, once every two weeks, the bushes are fed with mineral fertilizer. Withered flowers are removed immediately to ensure further flowering. Transplanted in the spring by transshipment with simultaneous formative pruning (leave 3-4 buds each).

Roses are propagated by cuttings. For better rooting, the cuttings are dipped into a solution of a growth stimulator (heteroauxin, etc.).

The rose is beautiful both in a group with other plants, and in splendid isolation. Best of all, its elegance and fragility are emphasized by various glass objects.

Exquisite and bright, a miniature decorative rose will decorate any interior. It belongs to the Rosaceae family and room version is a small neat bush from 35 to 45 cm. Proper Care will give a beautiful flowering from spring to autumn. To date, there are several hundred varieties of room roses. Some varieties exude a delicate aroma, others have no smell at all.

This is a temperate plant, so it does not require special conditions for breeding. Caring for her is not very difficult, but during the flowering period she will require attention. And, of course, thank you with luxurious flowers.

Features of growing home roses

indoor rose blooms in spring and summer, at this time it needs light and good watering. For abundant flowering, she definitely needs a dormant period, which is best organized in winter.

This houseplant tolerates low temperatures well, but is demanding on air and soil moisture. She is very photophilous, but direct sunlight can harm her. Rosa loves to "swim", so you should follow the regimen of water procedures. She needs fresh air all year round.

Important! After the purchase, do not rush to transplant it. It is better to do this in two weeks, then it will better adapt to new conditions.

Planting a room rose

Planting a room rose is not a troublesome business. It is important to know that the root system of the plant is very delicate, so it is better to transplant it by transshipment. Before planting a rose, you need to prepare a pot. A new pot needs to be soaked - pour water and leave for a day. The pot from under the old plant must be thoroughly cleaned with a brush without the use of detergents. If there is a drainage hole in the pot, then the expanded clay layer can be no more than 1 cm, if not, then 3 cm.

Landing methods

Planting a room rose is done by cuttings.

Optimal landing time

The best time to plant indoor roses is from May to September.

Soil for the plant (Soil composition)

A rose in a pot needs a nutritious, breathable soil. It is best to use ready-made soil by buying it in a store. The optimal composition of the soil for the plant is turf and humus soil, sand in proportions of 4: 4: 1, respectively. Loosening the soil is not recommended because of the danger of damaging the roots. Rose prefers neutral soil.

There are some features in the care that are specific to this houseplant.

Location and lighting for the plant

Rosa needs fresh air, so the ideal location for her is a balcony or garden bed in the summer (you can take her with you to the country house if you spend the whole summer there). However, it is not recommended to leave it unattended, because it needs frequent watering in the summer during the flowering period.

At home, the rose is best placed on the southeast or south side, because she loves a lot of light. In autumn, when daylight is short, she needs to turn on additional lighting from a fluorescent lamp. This is done to prolong the flowering period.

In winter during dormancy comfortable temperature for a rose - +10 - +12 degrees. If it is possible to put her on a glazed loggia or balcony, she will have a good rest. Room winter temperature is not very suitable for her. If it is not possible to keep the flower at a low temperature, it should be protected as much as possible from the heat of the batteries and dry air.

It is advisable to turn a pot with a miniature room rose from time to time towards the light in different directions.

Important! If the rose hibernates on a glazed loggia, in order to avoid freezing of the soil, the pot with the plant can be placed in a box and sprinkle sawdust around it.

Air humidity

Indoor mini roses need high humidity. When they are outdoors (on the balcony or in the garden) additional moisture is not required. In winter, if the rose is in the room, it is better to keep the pot with it in a tray with wet pebbles.

Rosa needs weekly water procedures in the form of a spray. If the room is cool in winter, it is better not to spray the rose. If the air is too dry and warm, spraying should be done 1-2 times a week, even in winter.

In no case do not spray the rose during the day in hot summer weather.

Important! In a dry atmosphere, pests may appear on the flower.

Temperature regime for a flower

The most comfortable temperature for a rose in the summer is +14 - +25 degrees. In winter, the rose needs coolness - no higher than +15 degrees.

How to water correctly

Indoor rose does not tolerate both drying out and excessive watering. In summer, when the rose blooms, watering is necessary 2 times a day - in the morning and in the evening. It is necessary to water with settled water at room temperature.

In autumn, when the rose sheds its leaves, watering should be reduced to 1 time per week if the rose hibernates on the balcony. If it is in a room at a fairly high temperature, it should be watered as the top layer of soil dries.

You can alternate top and bottom watering (watering the soil and filling the pan). In any case, excess water from the pan must be drained to prevent root rot.

In the spring, as the plant awakens, watering should be gradually increased.

Feeding and fertilizing the rose flower

Due to the long flowering, the rose loses its strength and needs to be fertilized by the soil. They begin to feed her towards the end of February 1 time in 10 days. It is recommended to alternate mineral fertilizers with organic ones.

If you just transplanted a flower into fresh soil, you do not need to fertilize it.

Important! Before fertilizing, the flower must be watered with warm water.

Pruning a mini rose is necessary in order to stimulate the ovary. Must be pruned during flowering withered flowers as short as possible.

The flower is routinely pruned in the fall as preparation for a dormant period. You can also do this in the spring.

Trimming methods

Pruning must be done with a sharp tool so that there are no torn parts left on the branch, this can lead to the death of the entire plant. Branches are cut to healthy tissue, above the bud, which is facing outward. An oblique cut is made about five millimeters above the kidney.

It is necessary to remove all weak or dry shoots, as well as those that do not have an upper bud. When weaving two shoots, one of them is removed. If, after pruning, two stems appear from one kidney, the excess must be cut off.

Important! Spring pruning should not be carried out until at least 10-hour daylight hours come, otherwise the young shoots will not be able to fully develop.

Transplanting a home rose

A rose needs a transplant in two cases - after purchase and as the plant grows.

Transplant methods

After the purchase

Before transplanting a rose after purchase, it needs to be allowed to adapt. You don't have to touch it for two weeks. First, the flower itself is prepared. A pot with a rose is placed in water, so it needs to stand for about half an hour. Then the rose needs to be bathed with a contrast shower ( hot water no higher than 40 degrees). After bathing, a greenhouse is made from a plastic bag so that it does not touch the leaves (the edges of the bag can be pinned to the ground). The greenhouse needs to be ventilated daily. The rose will be ready for transplanting when the flowers begin to wilt. They need to be removed, and the plant can be transplanted.

Immediately before planting, the flower must be removed from the pot and its roots immersed in warm water to wash off the remnants of chemicals that the rose was fed in the greenhouse. Soak the ceramic pot in water for a day.

Drainage is placed at the bottom of the pot, then a layer of soil. The plant is placed in a pot and covered with earth so that it is tightly packed. The size of the pot should be slightly wider and higher than the previous container.

As needed

The rose does not like to be disturbed, so an annual repotting is not required, unless the pot becomes too small for her. New dishes for roses are prepared in the same way - cleaned and soaked. A pot of roses is placed in a container of water for 30 minutes, so that the earthen lump is easier to separate from the pot. Next, the flower is simply transferred to a new pot and a fresh substrate is poured, tamping it around the flower.

After transplanting, the flower does not need to be watered, but it is better to put it in a shady place. Later, you can move it to a permanent, well-lit place.

Important! Top dressing should be started no earlier than a month after transplantation.

You can propagate indoor rose cuttings. The stalk is cut with a sharp knife, its length should be no more than 10 cm. It is better to treat the tool with a solution of potassium permanganate or alcohol. The cut should be oblique, right under the kidney, so the stalk take root better. The upper cut is made 5 mm above the kidney. It is better to remove the leaves from the bottom of the cutting. There are two options for cutting a room rose:

Soil

Cuttings can be briefly placed in water with the addition of heteroauxin (14 tablets per glass of water). After 10 hours, the cuttings are planted in a mixture of sand and peat, you can just in the sand. Then they create greenhouse conditions using a film or a cut water bottle. You do not need to water much so that the cuttings do not start to rot. The temperature should be at least +18 degrees, direct sunlight should be excluded from them.

The cuttings will take root in about a month, after which they can be opened so that they adapt to drier air, and then transplanted into separate containers

Water

The cuttings must also be prepared, only their length should be about 15 cm. Then they are placed in a jar or glass of water, covered with a cardboard lid with holes into which the cuttings are inserted. The lower part should be immersed in water by 1.5-2 cm. If the humidity is too low, the cuttings should be sprayed. You can transplant them into pots when the roots grow by 1-1.5 cm and begin to branch well.

Important! For good rooting and development of cuttings, they need at least 15 hours of daylight.

Subject to all the rules for caring for a room rose, it will bloom from late spring to autumn. If faded buds are removed in a timely manner, the rose will bloom continuously during this period. To keep the pots from overheating in the sun, they can be wrapped in white paper.

When the plant blooms (flowering period), flower shape

In the spring, the rose begins an active growing season, and then it blooms. Flowers can be of a variety of colors - from amazing tea to maroon. The flowers are much smaller than the garden rose familiar to us.

Plant care after flowering

At the end of flowering, the rose needs pruning and preparation for rest. If the roses stood on fresh air, they should be brought into the room as soon as the temperature begins to fall below +12 degrees. After pruning, gradually reduce watering and stop feeding.

Problems, diseases and pests in a flower

Problems in a room rose can arise due to improper care. The reason for the lack of flowering may be:

  • malnutrition
  • Increased soil acidity
  • lack of lighting
  • Wrong transplant
  • drafts

Of the diseases, the rose can be affected by chlorosis, which is treated with iron chelate. The yellowing of the plant indicates the defeat of its fungus. In this case, you need to treat the rose with a fungicide.

The same must be done with powdery mildew (white bloom on a rose).

Of the pests, a room rose is most often affected by a spider mite (a thin web appears between the leaves). spider mite on a room rose can lead to viral diseases. You need to treat the flower with preparations "Apollo" or "Fitoverm".

Thrips or aphids on indoor roses are no less of a threat. They infect buds and leaves, deforming them. It is treated with insecticidal preparations for indoor plants.

Common types

bengal rose

This is perhaps the most common variety of indoor roses. The Bengal rose is absolutely unpretentious, it differs in that it does not shed its leaves after flowering. The flowers are odorless. Does not require pruning, except for dried or diseased branches.

miniature rose

Bushes no higher than 30 cm, flowers are collected in inflorescences and have a delicate aroma. Flowers can be white to black. Differs in abundant flowering and does not need pruning.

Baby Carnival

Abundant flowering is characteristic, great for both rooms and for decorating garden borders. This yellow indoor rose is invariably loved by flower growers.

pixie

This variety is distinguished by two-color double flowers - white with a pink center. Blooms profusely and for a long time, reaching a height of only 20 cm.

Eleanor

More common in the south. Bushes 30 cm tall are strewn with coral-colored flowers. The flowers themselves are collected in inflorescences of 10-15 pieces.

As a side note, do not confuse miniature indoor roses with Chinese indoor roses. The latter has nothing to do with roses and is called hibiscus.

Several Yet useful tips to care for a beautiful rose:

  • Remember, a rose will be bad both in a too cramped and in a very spacious pot. When transplanting, take a slightly larger container than before, and when planting, consistently increase the size of the pot
  • When planting and transplanting, special granules can be added to the substrate, which will prevent the roots from rotting and rotting.
  • The smaller the pot, the more often the rose should be watered (the soil dries out faster in a small pot).

Answers to questions from readers

This plant is a perennial and with good care lives for a long time.

Is this flower poisonous?

Indoor rose is not a poisonous plant.

Why doesn't the rose bloom?

In the previous chapters, situations were described when a rose stops blooming or does not bloom at all. This may be due to a violation of the content of the plant, as well as the effects of pests. It is necessary to examine the flower. If pests are not observed, you need to change some care parameters and observe the plant.

Why does an indoor rose dry (fade)?

If the plant wilts and the buds fall off, then it does not have enough watering. If this continues with normal watering, look for signs of disease or pests.

How does the plant overwinter?

The best wintering for a room rose will be a balcony with a temperature not higher than +15 degrees. This is a dormant period for the plant, so minimal watering is required and top dressing is needed.
