Do-it-yourself country rocking chair. Different hanging chairs for home or summer cottage - do it yourself

  • 16.06.2019

This chair was made for himself by Vladislav Emelyanov. In my opinion, this is a great example of work when you really want to do something, but there are no drawings, as well as skills in making them. Many are worth learning.

Money was spent on everything about everything:

1500 - bars
1400 - cloth
500 - foam rubber
1000 - sewing covers
600 - fittings, self-tapping screws, bolts

Total: about 5000 rubles.

In the design part, Vladislav was helped by a girl who already had this chair - she threw off photos with dimensions (they were filmed with a sewing meter). Then everything was customized to fit your needs. Here are those pictures for people wanting to replicate.

The process began with gluing bars 20 * 20, because there were no suitable blanks available, which once again speaks of the author's determination

For this, such homemade clamps were used.

Further, from the end of each bar, cotter pins were hammered into glue for greater strength.

Well, they already sawed the bars themselves. The roundings were drawn with a compass and sawed out with a jigsaw. Then he skinned the whole thing - the most tedious process.

Thus, all the necessary parts were made
We start with the manufacture of supports. We fasten vertical racks to the horizontal parts (self-tapping screws + glue)

We drill niches for connectors in them with a Forstner cutter and grind cylindrical connecting parts for them.

We drive them onto glue into each other, assembling the support frame.

The same design, but from a different angle.

We proceed to the manufacture of the hinged part. This required bolts, washers and ball bearings. With the help of a Forstner cutter of a suitable diameter, the bearings are recessed into the workpiece.

It was necessary to make a secret connection. So that there are no through holes. To do this, I drilled a hole, hammered an M12 nut and screwed a washer on top so that the nut would not fall out

We are preparing the bases for the sidewalls of the hinged module. To do this, we drill blind holes in the rails at an equal distance.

Then they are assembled into solid blocks with glue.

Now we bolt them to the previously assembled base.

Another angle.

We assemble and mount the seat on the base. (Rectangular frame with transverse slats). The bolts are recessed into blind holes into which the cylindrical armrests will then go.
To it we attach the back assembled in a similar way.

The armrests are assembled according to the principle similar to the sidewalls of the hinged part.

We put armrests.

They are fixed with furniture bolts to the back, giving additional rigidity.

Cut foam cushions to fit the seat and back. After that, covers were ordered under these pillows.

The chair was then dismantled and repainted. For this, Aquatex, walnut color was used. In two layers.

Once again I will give the rolling unit after painting.

And finally, the finale of the whole work, which took several months after work.

Making a rocking chair with your own hands is one of the ways to design a recreation area for a living space or personal plot. At home, such a convenient and practical piece of furniture is especially popular and in demand.

How to choose a rocking chair in the store

In the manufacture of such interior items, a wide variety of materials are used, including natural wood, reliable metal and durable modern plastic. The most common furniture from Italian manufacturers, the design of which is characterized by the presence of arc supports installed on both sides.

Such the feature of the chair allows you to swing on it. Less common are models that have a solid rounded base. Also a feature of the rocking chair is the presence of a comfortable back and armrests, and in some models there is a comfortable footrest.

Depending on the application, sizes vary, and all models can be divided into home, street or country-garden and office. The classic version is presented relatively light, simple in shape and affordable. garden models.Wickerwork it is not advisable to operate it outdoors for a long time. Natural materials such as wicker or rattan quickly become unusable as a result of direct sunlight.

Experts recommend for use in outdoor conditions to give preference to rocking chairs made of the most stable materials in the form of metal, plastic and synthetic fabrics. The design of furniture for home use can be selected depending on the characteristics of the interior in the room. Among other things, all types are divided into children's and adult models. The first option has small dimensions and is often presented in a playful way, so it can look like a swinging horse, dog or bird.

Master class on making rocking chairs from plywood and wood with your own hands

A home-made, lightest or simplest product is the best option, if necessary, to save money and get an original design. Easiest way to do it yourself wooden product. Simple rocking chairs, chairs and swings made of wood are always very harmoniously combined with any style of interior.

Making drawings with dimensions

You can use a ready-made drawing, and if necessary, perform its minor revision, or develop an assembly scheme yourself. When choosing the first option, it is recommended to give preference to designs with a small number of connections, due to the need to obtain the most monolithic and reliable product.

The frame base consists of a couple of main parts:

  • sidewalls in the form of a boomerang;
  • cross bars in the amount of fourteen pieces.

The stops are made of five-centimeter bars with a cross section of 2.0x4.0 cm.

Standard sizes finished model:

  • height - meter;
  • length - 1.2 m.
  • width - 60 cm.

After the drawing is drawn up, a diagram-pattern is transferred to graph paper, with strict adherence to scale. As a rule, the creation of a pattern of the simplest options with a minimum number of structural elements, poses no problem.

Materials and tools

As the main materials, it is planned to use plywood with a thickness of 1.5 cm or more to create load-bearing structural elements, represented by side supports and racks. For the manufacture of backrest slats and any decorative elements fit plywood a centimeter thick. You may also need connecting bars with a section of 30x50 mm, but in a simple model you can do without them.

The most accurate cutting of plywood can be obtained using an electric jigsaw. Smoothing the edges of plywood is performed by power tools of the appropriate modification in the form of a household grinder or a low-speed drill with a milling nozzle. You can remove all irregularities with a small file or fine sandpaper. Antiseptic compositions are used for wood processing. Assembly is carried out with glue and galvanized self-tapping screws, the heads of which are recessed.

Manufacturing steps

DIY manufacturing technology is as follows:

  • preparing a template for the side parts on thick cardboard;
  • cutting out plywood parts according to the template;
  • end processing in the cutting area sandpaper;
  • sawing transverse plywood strips 60 cm long and 4 cm wide, followed by sanding with sandpaper;
  • sawing stops for transverse slats from a bar 2.0x4.0 cm;
  • execution on each side part of the markup for the installation of thrust bars;
  • fastening of thrust bars with wood glue.
  • fastening the sidewalls with transverse strips.

Completely finished frame is processed protective compounds. A good result is given by two layers of stain and furniture varnish.

How to make a rocking chair from a vine at home

Flexible branches of bird cherry or willow are ideal for weaving. The design of a wicker rocking chair is presented:

  • lower bench;
  • seat;
  • back;
  • armrests.

Manufacturing technology:

  • preparation of 25 long rods, the diameter of which is 30mm and a large number thin rods, 5 mm thick;
  • thick rods are bent by means of a zhamka;
  • thin rods fix frame legs on the cross and frame;
  • prolegs are fitted;
  • shootouts are set;
  • the upper part of the back is mounted;
  • mounted transverse rods of the seat;
  • armrests are woven from rods;
  • with the help of carnations, the armrests are attached to the shooters;
  • the upper part of the armrest bars is attached to the side shooters;
  • preparation of typesetting rods and their installation on the back of the seat.

At the final stage, all elements of the wicker chair are decorated with decorative weaving from a thin cut tape.

Features of the manufacture of rocking chairs for summer cottages made of metal

At home, professional pipes or other types of metal are often used to make rocking chairs. A metal structure made of metal rods is connected using a welding machine or a drill and bolts according to the following technology:

  • drawing can be made according to the sample a simple chair, the dimensions of which are transferred to scale paper;
  • the radius of the planned arc determines the standard swing range of the manufactured structure;
  • the basis of the design are steel bars with a cross section of 20x20 mm, cut in accordance with the dimensions shown in the drawing;
  • arcs are bent from the bars and welded to the legs on the frame assembled in accordance with the drawing;
  • bars can be welded with a distance of 5-6 mm, which allows you to get the most durable and robust design, but requires an increased consumption of material;
  • sheet metal is welded or screwed onto the frame base along the entire length of the seat and backrest;
  • all elements of the finished structure are sanded and then primed and painted.

A more popular option for a metal structure is a structure based on a bed of fully curved sheet metal, fixed on arcs, which are represented by steel or aluminum pipes. Often the metal structure is replaced by a frame based on plastic pipes. The seat bed can be made of durable and reliable tarpaulin.

Other unusual options

Very interesting is the option of a double rocking chair. This model resembles a sofa and is the best comfortable option for a summer cottage.

Required Tools:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • disc grinder;
  • screwdriver;
  • a square with a long measuring ruler;
  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • spatulas and brushes.

As fasteners, euro screws are used in the amount of twelve pieces, 5x120 mm in size and 140 self-tapping screws 4x45 mm in size. In the process of work, you will also need drying oil, wood varnish, putty and an antiseptic solution.

Technology self-manufacturing:

  • making a drawing and a template on a metric grid, followed by transferring the contour to plywood;
  • cutting plywood blanks from plywood and timber. Manufacture of tie-backs and side elements from euro plywood 30 mm thick. The side parts are cut with a jigsaw in strict accordance with the pattern. Cutting three sides with dimensions 80x12 cm;
  • cutting blanks of bars to create the surface of the seat and back of the product. For cutting 35 elements 120 cm long, bars with a section of 5.0x2.5 cm are used;
  • sanding all cut parts and removing small chamfers with a grinder, after which the end parts of the parts are impregnated with hot drying oil.

The assembly of the structure consists in attracting the sidewalls to the sidewalls by means of confirmations. Drilled in planes through holes, and the frame is pulled together with euro screws. Holes above all installed screws must be very carefully and carefully puttied. At the final stage of assembly, a mandatory treatment with antiseptic solutions and a triple coating of the surface of the entire product with a special waterproof varnish is carried out.

How to design correctly

There are several types of rocking chairs that suit different needs and habits of users. The first models that appeared in everyday life were equipped with simple arcs and skis. Do-it-yourself rocking chairs can be made according to the finished drawing. But you need to know that these drawings were created for an individual person and may not suit others. First of all, the product should be comfortable and meet your own needs.

If the family consists of 3-4 people, then the design of the chair is designed for the heaviest and tallest member of the family.

What you need to know when designing a product:

  1. In the manufacture of the chair, it is required to take into account that the center of gravity of the swinging chair must be correctly located in relation to the center of the rocking circle. Then the product will be comfortable and stable.
  2. A rocking chair made of wood will not move if these two points converge at one.
  3. The product will be unstable if the center of gravity moves higher in relation to the center of the circle.

How to choose material and design

The material for the chair is chosen depending on the interior of the room in which it will stand, and financial capabilities. Design and choice of material:

  • Wicker products, have a beautiful appearance and are the most popular models. They are expensive, because they are woven by hand from rattan and cane. Models made from Indonesian rattan are very durable and have good quality. These are elegant, comfortable and environmentally friendly products. Thanks to good depreciation, they are able to withstand any weight. They are often installed on balconies and loggias of a country house.
  • The frame for rocking chairs is made of profile pipe, metal or wood. Plywood is often used. The metal frame is combined with natural materials such as rattan. These products are highly durable and can withstand big weight. To make them comfortable to sit on, the back and seat are made of plastic pipes.
  • The most budgetary are products made from wood. They are less durable, but have a beautiful appearance. A classic armchair made of wood with your own hands will look incomparable in a living room with a fireplace.

Wrought iron models are suitable for gazebos. They have a graceful appearance and look rich. Often they are installed on verandas. country houses. Soft cushions laid on the seats will add comfort to your rest.

Simple rocking chair options

The basis of the chair is arched runners (skis), thanks to which it is able to swing. The dimensions of the skids can be long or short. Older people are better off choosing models with short skids. The swing of such products occurs calmly and evenly. Models with long runners will suit other people. Here the depth of movements is large and the chair is able to tilt to a reclining state. For creating simple option do-it-yourself rocking chairs drawings are not needed.

How to weave

A wicker chair has many advantages. It is lightweight, eco-friendly material is used for its manufacture, and thanks to weaving, an individual design is obtained. As a material for weaving, you can choose willow, alder or bird cherry. A vine of grapes or raspberries is also suitable. Creation of construction and weaving:

  1. First, the frame is assembled, which consists of a seat, backrest, support legs and armrests. Then make a braid.
  2. To make the shank softer, a cylindrical shape is used. The vine is thrown over the form and pulled up. Then they pass 2-3 times in different directions.
  3. The place of the braid is coated with PVA glue. Then the body of the product is woven.
  4. To inner part the frame was woven easier, 3 rods are used for winding. In addition, this will create additional reliability of the fasteners. Internal weaving can be done in an openwork, single or combined way.

There are several do-it-yourself wicker weaving techniques. This is a linear way, a pigtail or a checkerboard pattern.

from wood

The easiest and fastest way to make a rocking chair is from an old chair that has wooden legs. Work order:

  1. Two curved supports are prepared from wooden bars.
  2. Grooves are cut under the legs.
  3. Then prepare 8 restrictive bars. 2 pieces for each leg.
  4. Limiters are nailed to each support. To ensure that the chair is stable and does not turn over from the outside of the supports, screw in 3 bolts. Each limiter is equipped with a closing plate.
  5. The legs are inserted into the grooves with limiters. Then each limiter is closed with plates and fixed with a perforator.

If you install a footboard in front, this will create additional convenience for the user. This rocking chair made of wood is suitable for giving.

metal

A homemade rocking chair made of metal is stronger and more durable than other models. For its manufacture, welding is needed, so not everyone will be able to cope with such work. To assemble the chair you will need:

  • pipes or steel bars with cuts 20 × 20 mm;
  • corners 40x40x3 mm;
  • steel sheet 2 mm;
  • welding machine and grinder;
  • drills and a set of screws.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Do-it-yourself cuts are made from rods or pipes. Their length should be 1 m.
  2. Finished rods are attached to the frame with a distance of 5-6 mm. They are bent along an oval and fixed with a welding machine to the base.
  3. The seat is made of steel sheet. It is screwed to the body with screws.
  4. All seams are cleaned by files. The product is treated with an anti-corrosion agent and painted.

It will be possible to make the seat soft with the help of wooden planks or pillows. The disadvantage of a forged product is a lot of weight. Therefore, when making it, you need to try to make it smaller by changing some parts to a lighter material. To prevent the product from scratching the floor in the room, rubber strips are glued to its runners.

Step-by-step instructions for making a rocking chair

The most common material from which furniture is made is plywood. If we compare plywood with wood, then the first is 2 times stronger and more expensive. Due to the high moisture resistance of the material, the rocking chair made of plywood has a long service life. It is easier to repair or decorate such a product, because it lends itself to any processing. It can be painted with various paints or varnishes, sanded and covered with a film. To make a chair at home you will need:

  • plywood 3 sheets measuring 1520 × 800 mm (the thickness of each sheet is different - from 4 to 15 mm);
  • timber 53 cm long;
  • glue;
  • jigsaw;
  • screws.

Before you make a rocking chair with your own hands, you need to prepare a drawing.

Frame manufacturing

To make a plywood rocking chair yourself, you need to prepare patterns and put them on the material. The finished drawing is transferred to a sheet of paper. The paper is pre-marked into cells. The size of each cell should be 10×10 mm. The cells are then expanded to required size and, together with the painted details, are transferred to plywood. Plywood drawings are cut with a jigsaw. In doing so, the following must be taken into account:

  1. Assembling the back and seat is quite difficult. It consists of several elements, so their base is cut out of thin sheet 4 mm thick. From a sheet of 10 mm, 18 planks (540 × 30 mm) and 16 crossbars (500 × 30) are prepared. Planks are used for the back, and cross bars for the seat. Racks, seat supports, slats (470 × 45 mm) and chair sides are cut out of plywood 15 mm thick. All parts are made in 2 pieces.
  2. A hole is made in a wooden beam for screws. This part will serve as a footboard.
  3. Before proceeding with the assembly of the structure, all elements are cleaned with sandpaper.
  4. To give the structure a curved shape, thin strips (10mm) are glued to the back and seat, which were made of 4 mm plywood. All elements are fixed with waterproof PVA glue.
  5. The crossbars are mounted on the base of the back and seat. Then install the footrest and sidewalls. All elements are fixed with washers with screws.
  6. The product is ready. To make the back and seat soft, they are covered with padding polyester and covered with fabric. Looks good natural or artificial leather. The pattern is made according to the size of the chair. The seat and back are covered with an adhesive composition, then materials are laid in layers: burlap, synthetic winterizer, fabric. They are fixed with a furniture stapler.

If you follow all the rules for the operation of a furniture product, then it will last a long time.

Making skis

The comfort and smoothness of the rocking of the chair depends on the runners (skis). They can be made in two ways:

  • According to the drawing, 2 blanks are cut out of plywood and polished. The thickness of the plywood must be at least 15 mm. Skis must be installed in the grooves symmetrically with respect to each other. To do this, grooves are made in the legs of the product. Their depth should be from 7 to 10 cm. In the place where the legs of the chair and skis adjoin each other, through holes are cut through. A wooden spike is inserted into them, having previously lubricated the holes with glue.
  • For the manufacture of skis, 2 square bars 1 m long and 45 mm thick are used. It cuts the grooves into which the legs of the chair will be inserted. To give the runners the necessary shape, the bars are soaked in hot water. When they soften, the material will become elastic and slightly arched. When the skis are dry, they are installed on the legs. The parts are fixed with glue, so all joints are pre-lubricated with a substance.

What do you do with old furniture?

Today, a rocking chair is not a forgotten piece of antiquity, but a popular and comfortable element of the interior. It is found not only in dachas and country houses, but also in solid offices and apartments. A rocking chair is expensive furniture, but with the desire and some materials, you can make it yourself from plywood.

Advantages of a homemade plywood rocking chair

The main advantages of plywood are strength and lightness. A rocking chair made of such material is convenient to rearrange. In addition, plywood furniture harmoniously fits into the interior of any room.

The surface of the rocking chair is easy to process different ways(by sanding, painting, varnishing or a special film) - therefore, decorate it and carry out redecorating subject will be very simple.

The rocking chair made of plywood has a high moisture resistance, which significantly extends its service life. The advantage of such furniture is also that it is made of eco-friendly materials and therefore does not require special care.

The wooden elements of the rocking chair fit perfectly into the interior

Design requirements and dimensions

Depending on where the rocking chair will be used (on an open lawn or indoors), plywood of different thicknesses and wood species is selected. If the item will be placed in places with high humidity, use oak plywood. The main thing is that during the manufacture the material should be relatively dry (humidity from 3 to 10%).

The most comfortable height of a rocking chair without a headrest is about 90 cm, with a headrest - 110-115 cm. An object of this size is suitable for the growth of an average person.

The height of the load-bearing sidewalls to the top of the seat should be about 35 cm, so that the person sitting in the chair can sway with their legs slightly extended.

The seat of the rocking chair will be comfortable if its length and width are 50 cm. Such parameters will ensure a comfortable fit in the chair. You can also make it wider, which will allow you to sit more comfortably and tighten your legs. The optimal backrest angle is 15 degrees or more. It is better to spread the armrests a little apart from the seat of the rocking chair by 13–15 cm.

Pay special attention to the radius of the skids. If it is large, then the chair will constantly fall back, which can lead to a rollover. Because of the runners with a small radius, the object will quickly return to its original position - this will create the effect of a twitching swing, which is also inconvenient. The thickness of the skids is best taken from several pieces of thick plywood glued together.

The use of short or long skids makes a difference. An armchair with long details has a greater depth and amplitude of rocking, at which the position of the seated person changes into a semi-lying position. An object with a short amplitude has a smaller amplitude, so the person remains in a sitting position all the time.

Rocking chairs with long skids are a classic option suitable for everyone.

The design of the rocking chair: 1 - sidewalls; 2 - tsarga; 3 - rack; 4, 6, 7 - crossbars; 5 - backrest slats; 8 - footrest

Necessary materials and tools

To make a rocking chair yourself, you will need to prepare the following:

  • Sheets of plywood.
  • Wooden beam (length - 53 cm).
  • Electric jigsaw or grinder.
  • A set of saw blades for wood (saw blade ranging from 50 to 105 mm).
  • Hand mill or disc grinder with nozzles of different grits (you can use ordinary sandpaper).
  • Measuring tape and pencil.
  • Electric drill with wood drills.
  • Screws, nuts, washers.
  • Sintepon.
  • Thick fabric for upholstery.
  • Furniture stapler, glue.
  • Wood paint, varnish.

For the manufacture of rocking chair parts, it is better to use plywood sheets, the size of which is 1520x900 cm, and the thickness is 4 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm. The side elements require 4 mm thick material. If required sheets no, it will be possible in the process of work to cut out several identical parts from thin plywood and glue them together.

Since plywood has different thicknesses, an appropriate tool is selected for cutting a specific material. Sheets up to 1.5 mm thick are cut with a sharpened knife. Sheets up to 6 mm - with a jigsaw, and thicker ones - with an electric jigsaw or a grinder.

The tool for working with plywood is selected taking into account the thickness of the material

Preparation of plywood and general rules for working with it

First of all, it is necessary to conveniently organize working space. When cutting a large plywood sheet, there should be enough space in the room.

To avoid the rapid wear of the parts of the rocking chair, it is necessary to treat the plywood with one of the proposed means:

  • fiberglass;
  • varnish;
  • drying oil;
  • paint.

Gluing with fiberglass significantly increases the service life of plywood. If it is not possible to use this coating, you can take ordinary gauze instead. To connect materials, a varnish without polyester and epoxy components in the composition is used.

Drying oil coating will help increase the moisture resistance of plywood

Lacquering allows you to protect plywood from external influences. The treatment with paint, as well as drying oil, which forms a waterproofing layer, will help to increase moisture resistance (the impregnation will be even more effective if it is preheated in a water bath to 60 degrees).

Particular attention should be paid to the end sides of the plywood parts. They require additional insulation and careful processing. To protect them, you must do one of the following:

  • putty the ends of plywood;
  • treat with deep penetrating primers;
  • apply thick paints;
  • glue the edges with metal or plastic piping.

When working with plywood, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • It is not recommended to cut plywood across its fibers - this will lead to cracking of the edges of the sheet.
  • It is better not to drive nails or screws into the plywood sheet, as this will lead to cracking of the surface. To prevent this, you need to pre-drill holes. If, nevertheless, plywood parts are connected with screws, it is necessary to put metal washers on them.
  • To give the plywood the desired bend or shape, its surface should be wetted and left in this position for several hours.
  • Before gluing plywood parts, their contacting surfaces must be cleaned with sandpaper, then the material must be cleaned of dust and glue should be applied parallel to the plywood fibers. The parts to be glued must be placed under the press.

Instructions to help you make a rocking chair with your own hands

Pattern making and drawing transfer

  1. To make a pattern, you need to mark a sheet of paper into identical cells 10x10 mm in size, and then redraw the drawing prepared taking into account all the nuances.
  2. After that, it is necessary to draw cells enlarged to the required size on plywood and transfer the images of the details, saving space on the sheet of material.

Cutting plywood into pieces

  1. In accordance with the drawing, use a jigsaw or grinder to cut a sheet of plywood 15 mm thick into parts: side elements, seat supports, racks. You also need to prepare four planks (47x4.5 cm, 54x4.5 cm, 48.5x4.5 cm and 47x4.5 cm), which will be the cross members of the rocking chair design.
  2. From a sheet of plywood 10 mm thick, cut 18 strips for the back and 16 for the seat. Their size is 54x3 cm and 50x3 cm. Use 4 mm thick material to make parts for the back and seat.
  3. For the footrest of the rocking chair, you will need to take wooden beam and use an electric drill to drill holes in it for screws.
  4. After all the details are ready, they will need to be cleaned with sandpaper. Especially carefully it is recommended to handle the back, seat and armrests.

Construction assembly

  1. First, it is supposed to assemble the back and seat from thin strips 10 mm thick. These strips must be glued to the parts of the back and seat, cut out of 4 mm plywood. This design will allow you to form a curved shape. It is better to connect parts with waterproof PVA glue for carpentry.
  2. Further, the crossbars are attached to the base of the back and seat, and after that - the sidewalls and the footboard. When connecting parts with screws, metal washers must be used.
  3. After assembling all the parts, the back and seat can be covered with padding polyester and upholstered with fabric, leatherette or leather. For this you need:
  • in accordance with the size of the rocking chair, make a pattern;
  • apply a thin layer of PVA glue on the seat and back;
  • attach a layer of burlap on top (due to its rough surface, the filler will not stray);
  • put a synthetic winterizer on the seat and back;
  • cover the back and seat with a filler with fabric;
  • via furniture stapler fix the material.

By making a homemade rocking chair, you can save a lot and get a comfortable and high-quality item. Furniture made in compliance with all requirements will delight you with its convenience for many years.

Secondly, a simple and at the same time effective health simulator. Thirdly, it is surprisingly comfortable to relax in it, read a book or indulge in sweet, addictive and enveloping laziness.

Since the statement that all diseases stem from the nerves is largely true, the rocking chair can become a unique pill, a miracle cure for many diseases.

Rhythmic, even and calm swaying puts the human nervous system into some kind of trance - the body calms down, relaxes, but the parasympathetic nervous system on the contrary, it is activated.

A person relaxes, distracted from the daily routine and obsessive thoughts. A relaxed mind is “lazy” to control the body, the muscles relax, starting to fully rest and recover, accumulating a reserve of strength.

A rocking chair will help overcome sleep problems, because dimensional rocking is the same manipulation that a mother carries out, rocking a child in cradle. Just half an hour in a rocking chair - and a deep healthy sleep will take you into his arms.

A rocking chair will help patients with tachycardia - swaying, as it were, sets a certain uniform pace, to which the heart adjusts. It trains the vestibular apparatus - after it it is easier to endure long trips in a car, train or plane.

Today, rocking chairs are made from different materials, but our most popular products are from rattan and vines.

What to make a rocking chair from: we select materials

To make a reliable, strong and durable rocking chair, you must use quality wood- coniferous varieties, oak or larch. Often, to simplify the work, plywood is used - its sheets are not only easy to saw to get the part of the required shape, but it is also plastic enough and lends itself well to further processing (sanding, painting).

The choice of material is almost completely determined by the place where to place the rocking chair. An outdoor rocking chair should have additional protection and be treated with antiseptic agents that minimize the impact of adverse aggressive natural factors (frost, rain, snow) and allow it to maintain its aesthetic appeal for as long as possible.

For a summer residence, the combination of metal and wood looks like the best option - the base (frame) is made of forged metal, and the seats are already made of wood. And stores are increasingly offering plastic rocking chairs, which have two undoubted advantages: small price and high immunity to all natural influences.

How to make a rocking chair with your own hands: the most affordable options

The main part of the design of the rocking chair is two runners (skis), which have an arched shape, due to which, in fact, the chair can rock. These skids can be short or long. In chairs with long skids, the depth and amplitude of rolling are quite large, a person moves from a sitting position to a semi-lying position. Rocking chairs with short skids provide a calm and sedate swing, which is why they are especially popular with older people.

To make a simple rocking chair, you don't even need detailed drawing rocking chairs. It is enough to take a ready-made, for example old, chair (1) with wooden legs. Let's make two supports (2), for this we make two elements from the bars, which will have the same curved base. We also cut out the cheeks (3), which we will use later as the bottom for the legs of the chair.

For each leg of the original chair, we cut out two restrictive bars (4) - a total of eight. We nail the appropriate limiters at the required distance for each support for all legs. At both supports, we screw in three (6) furniture bolts from the outside - this will give the chair stability and ensure safe rocking. Let's prepare the end plate (7) for each restrictive beam. Having inserted the legs of the chair into the prepared grooves with limiters, we cover the limiters with closing plates and fix them with a perforator. For convenience, a footrest (8) can be added to the front.

Similarly, you can upgrade a chair with metal legs by making special metal mounting loops.

Plywood rocking chair

For plastic modeling, plywood is the most favorable material. Using a jigsaw, you can get a design that will greatly simplify the process, because structurally it combines the two most important (and most difficult to manufacture) elements of a rocking chair - skids and sidewalls. In addition, the absence of joints significantly increases the strength of the structure.

For the manufacture we need:

  • jigsaw
  • screwdriver
  • plywood - a sheet with a thickness of at least 15 mm
  • oak (pine) slats with a section of 10x50 mm - about 20-35 pieces, the length depends on the manufacturing option - a single or double chair. For a single chair, the rail length is 1200 mm.
  • timber (pine, oak is better) - 30x50 mm, 3 pcs, equal in length to the rails
  • self-tapping screws

We draw a pattern on graph paper, transfer the pattern to plywood and cut out the sidewall with an electric jigsaw.

After that, we sand all the details and remove small chamfers. If the rocking chair is intended for summer cottages, the ends will require special attention - they require maximum protection against dampness. Therefore, the ends of all parts are impregnated with hot drying oil, after which the wood fibers are slightly flattened with a hammer - so moisture will be absorbed much less. Before starting the general assembly, the processing-varnishing procedure for the ends must be carried out twice.

We mark the holes for the connecting bars (tsargs) at the foot, middle part and at the head. To achieve maximum accuracy, after preliminary marking, the sidewalls are aligned and a hole is drilled. The drawers are fixed with euro screws and additionally fixed with wood glue. After that, we evenly fix the rails on the already assembled frame with self-tapping screws. After the assembly is completed, it is necessary to putty the holes above the screws, once again sand all the details with fine sandpaper, treat with an antiseptic, cover with stain (if you like). dark tones wood) and cover the resulting chair with waterproof varnish.

If it is possible to use a grinder and a welding machine, you can assemble metal carcass. To do this, you need a steel corner (20x20x3 mm) and a steel strip (4 mm thick, 40 mm wide). After assembly, the frame is painted, after which holes for self-tapping screws are drilled along the entire length of the seat and backrest, with which wooden facing strips will be attached.

Advice! Before assembly, be sure to treat the metal parts with an anti-corrosion compound.
