Fashion woodcutter. How to make a woodcutter out of metal with your own hands? The simplest woodcutter

  • 23.06.2020

A firewood shed is a small shed for storing firewood for a barbecue, sauna, fireplace or stove. To do this, you can build a small shed or stack firewood in a home hozblok. And you can make a little more effort and create an original building with your own hands, which will become a real decoration of your summer cottage.

How to choose a place to build?

When choosing a suitable place for a future woodcutter, keep in mind that the building should not be conspicuous and should not be located too far from home. If there is no fireplace or stove heating in a residential building, then it makes sense to build a woodshed closer to the steam room or barbecue area.

We advise you to draw a plan for a summer cottage and choose a suitable place for your future woodcutter on it. When creating a drawing, also take into account the features of the local terrain. The chosen place should be as flat as possible and located on a slight elevation. If your building is in a pit, then water will accumulate in it, which will begin to spoil the firewood. As a result, you will be forced to get rid of excess fluid.

Also keep in mind that the firewood should dry well, so it is best to build a woodshed in a draft. Try not to get direct sunlight on the wood, otherwise they will shrink. To do this, build a building on the north side of the site.

Features of the construction and design of a woodshed

When choosing the type of woodcutter, consider your experience in building with your own hands - this will make it possible to immediately discard options that are not suitable for you. The most affordable and cheapest option is a woodshed. Such a structure is sheathed with boards or timber and can last a long time.

Remember that the woodcutter should fit in as harmoniously as possible in your country house. good solution will be its extension to an existing building. In this case, you will spend much less time on design, and the entire amount of work will be significantly reduced.

As a material for sheathing, you can use slate, corrugated board or polycarbonate. Then it is necessary to leave gaps in the walls of the woodshed for natural ventilation.

To make the structure more ornate, you can paint it or cover it with colored polyurethane varnish. Plant a few bushes of climbing plants near the building - they will help to give the woodcutter an unusual appearance.

Alternatively, you can make a wooden roof for the building, and place some flat containers of soil on it. Sow in the ground lawn grass. Vegetation growing on the roof will make your woodshed different from others.

We calculate the required area and prepare materials

The area required for construction depends on the consumption of wood. In practice, for heating 100 m 2 of living space in autumn and winter, about 2.5 m 3 of dry pine wood or 1.5 m 3 of birch wood is required. At the same time, dry firewood is a material with a moisture content of about 20%. This figure is achieved by storing raw materials for a year. Much more freshly cut firewood will be required to heat the same area, since their calorific value is several times lower.

You will have to stock up on material for at least 2 seasons. When calculating firewood, also consider the efficiency of your stove or fireplace. For more modern models of fireplaces, this figure can reach 80%. In them, one batch of used firewood can "work" up to 8 hours. To the amount of material you calculated for heating the building, also add firewood for a barbecue and a steam room.

For construction, you will need the following tools:

  • hacksaw;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers;
  • twine;
  • plumb;
  • ladder.

When building a foundation for driving in pillars, you will need a drill or crowbar.

As a material for construction, you can use waste left over from the construction of other facilities on the site. It is important that they are in good condition, with no signs of rot.

Building a firewood shed on a columnar foundation

First you need to prepare the foundation. Without a foundation, the building will wobble. To do this, dig a ravine 10 cm deep. Line the area of the ravine with bricks or blocks. At the corners of the foundation, dig holes 40 cm deep, install pillars of blocks or bricks and fasten them with mortar. There should be space inside each of the pillars so that later the bars can be installed in it. The foundation pillars will serve as the main support for holding the woodcutter. Next, inside the pillars, you need to hammer bars with a diameter of 5-7 cm and pour them with concrete to better hold.

Next, proceed to the waterproofing of the woodcutter. For this you need bituminous mastic and ruberoid. Apply mastic to the bricks laid out in the ravine and lay the roofing material, heated by gasoline or gas burner. When laying, make an overlap of 10 cm, and at the end, heat up the roofing material again and apply a second layer of mastic.

After that, the protruding bars must be sheathed with wooden boards. At the same time, in the lower part, 4 pillars must be horizontally nailed to the bars, to which the floorboards will be attached. For fastening, use metal corners and self-tapping screws. You can also use long self-tapping screws without corners. Bars and all others wooden elements pre-treat buildings with fire retardant impregnation.

Then make the top harness and nail the rafters for future roof. To make the job easier, fix temporary braces for a while. In the place where the doorway will be, install 2 additional beams. In the future, the door will be needed if you decide to build a hozblok. If you are building a small woodshed, then you can do without a door.

As roof fit shed construction, covered with corrugated board. In addition to the roof over the entrance to the building, make a small visor. It will protect firewood from rain and snow in strong winds. For the manufacture of this element, use the end board, which must be fixed to the front roof boards with dies.

The walls of the building must be sheathed with bars or boards. Nail the bars in 2–3 cm increments. The boards must be fastened with small gaps between them. After construction, the wooden elements of the woodshed must be painted and coated with polyurethane varnish.

Construction of a woodshed

For the construction of a wall-mounted woodcutter, the north side of the house or barn is best suited. When erecting a structure of this type, be sure to consider that water from the roof of the house can drain into the extension. This can be avoided by installing a visor or shifting the frame for storing firewood.

To mount the visor, nail two boards to the roof of the building and grease them with water-repellent impregnation. After that, sheathe the boards with slate or corrugated board. Position the roofing material so that water from it does not flow into the woodshed.

In all other respects, the construction of the extension completely repeats the construction algorithm fixed structure. The advantage of a wall-mounted woodcutter is to save space and time. You do not need to make a drawing of a suburban area. All that is needed is to drive in the poles and sheathe them with boards. Further decoration entirely depends on your imagination.

Making a compact portable woodcutter

Today on sale there is a wide range of wooden and forged woodsheds of compact sizes, they can be carried with you in a car. However, making the design yourself from improvised means is much more interesting. The main portable woodcutter can serve as an old barrel. The main condition for this is that it should not have traces of rot.

Set the barrel to flat surface. Move its hoop to the center of the barrel, knocking with a hammer. After that, fix the hoop with short screws, it will be a handle. Draw the cut points along the edges with a marker. Drill several holes along the contours with a drill. Insert a jigsaw sting into one of the holes and saw off part of the barrel along the outlined outline. Do the same on the other side. Places of cuts must be carefully cleaned with sandpaper.

After that, take a board and saw off several bars from it with an electric jigsaw, which will serve as legs for the woodcutter. They can be glued to the bottom of the woodcutter or inserted into pre-drilled holes. At the end, it remains to process the wooden part of the barrel with a special impregnation against rot. If desired, the woodcutter can be painted.

A firewood shed is needed for storing pre-harvested logs and drying them. The drier the firewood, the more heat it gives. Firewood is laid in it in neat rows so that they can be easily reached without bringing down the entire stack. You can build a woodcutter for a summer residence with your own hands from bricks, wood, metal, or the remnants of old building materials. A room for drying and storing firewood can be either ordinary and nondescript, or serve as a decoration for the site.

Types of firewood for summer cottages

There are several types of buildings for firewood in the country. A separate shed with a door is called a firewood shed, a small stand or basket for the consumable part of the fuel supply is called a firewood shed, and a shed for drying and storing firewood is called a firewood shed.

The following requirements are imposed on the woodcutter:

  • large capacity;
  • maximum protection against precipitation;
  • unobstructed air circulation for quick drying of the fuel.

Outbuildings are usually placed in the depths of the site, away from prying eyes. But a do-it-yourself woodcutter can look like an exquisite decoration for a summer residence. Sometimes firewood sheds act as an element of house design, they decorate one of the walls or a corner for relaxation.

Drovniks are divided into:

  • detached with a shed roof;

  • detached with a gable roof;

  • extension to the wall of the building;

  • firewood built into the wall.

One of the mistakes when building a woodcutter for a summer house with your own hands is the wrong place. Do not erect it in the center of the site so that the structure does not obscure the landing. You can not install a woodcutter in a lowland so that the logs do not begin to rot. It is optimal to choose a small hill with infertile soil. Care should be taken that a paved path leads to it.

It is very dangerous to attach a woodcutter to a wooden dacha wall. Firstly, this is contrary to fire safety rules, and secondly, the risk of infecting the building with bugs that may be in logs increases. If it is not possible to build a free-standing structure with your own hands, wooden wall cottages should be covered sheet metal the size is slightly larger than the dimensions of the canopy. And without fail, treat the walls of the house and the woodshed with a special solution from insects.

Free-standing woodsheds look like a canopy with lattice walls. If necessary, open woodsheds are covered with plywood sheets in winter to protect them from snow. You can install them only in the lower part of the canopy. With the advent of spring, the protective sheets are removed so that the firewood dries faster.

Important! Firewood must not be stacked on the floor or the ground. This will allow them to absorb moisture and make it difficult for air to circulate.

What are firewood made from?

You can build firewood with your own hands from almost anything:

  • timber;
  • brick;
  • lumber residues;
  • materials obtained during the analysis of old buildings, etc.

In extreme cases, you can build a firewood shed "from what was." Review the stocks of lumber available in the country, and, starting from this, build a canopy with your own hands. Fast, cheap, but unreliable - there is no guarantee that the entire supply of fuel will fit. Another economical option is a firewood shed made of wooden pallets.

An approximate list of materials and tools that will be required for the construction of a woodcutter in the country with your own hands:

  • cinder block, pipes, poles, concrete for the foundation;
  • logs, beams on the frame;
  • boards for wall cladding and roof construction;
  • roofing material (galvanized sheets, corrugated board);
  • nails, metal fasteners, corner;
  • power tool, tape measure, hammer, axe, screwdriver, level, plumb line, hacksaw, saw.

Important! Roofing requires lightweight but durable materials. Slate and tiles are too heavy, ondulin or roofing felt can sag on a crate with large cells.

If the cottage is built of brick and there is a foundation overhang that allows you to place a woodcutter on it, you can use the roof of the building as a canopy, and arrange the walls and floor with your own hands from a metal lattice and sheet. This is the safest and most economical option: the foundation, back wall and roof are already in place, the materials are only needed for the side walls and floor.

A more complex version of a wooden woodcutter attached to the wall can also be placed on the foundation of the building, and the roof can be slightly increased with galvanized sheets.

Woodworker drawings

Before starting work, you should determine how much fuel is supposed to be stored in the woodshed. If people come to the dacha from time to time, and fuel is needed only to kindle the brazier, then a large woodcutter is not needed. If it is supposed to live in the country during the cold period, and firewood is needed not only for cooking barbecue, but also for heating the house, then you will have to build a spacious firewood shed in which the logs can dry well. It is necessary to build such a structure near the house, so that in cold and bad weather you do not have to go far for fuel.

Important! For heating in the winter season, cottages with an area of 100 sq. m. you need about 1.7 cubic meters of birch firewood or 2 cubic meters of pine. It is necessary to create a supply of fuel for at least two seasons so that the wood has time to dry well.

An approximate diagram of a columnar foundation, a method for installing and fixing pillars with your own hands:

If the logs in the firewood shed are stacked in several rows in depth, it is more appropriate to divide the volume into parts. Then damp, recently brought firewood will not be mixed with already dried ones.

Drawing of a woodcutter with a pitched roof:

Important! For ease of use, the roof of the woodcutter is raised to a level of 2 m and above.

How to make a firewood shed

The woodcutter requires a solid foundation. In extreme cases, you can get by with columns dug into the ground to a depth exceeding the level of freezing. It is optimal to use ready-made concrete tables with dimensions of 200x200x400 mm. If the region often blows strong winds, anchor bolts are embedded in the foundation pillars to secure the firewood frame. The columns are not enough just to dig in, they need to be concreted or strengthened with sand and gravel, falling asleep in layers and well rammed.

Sometimes the floor in the firewood shed is made slatted or large gaps are deliberately left in it. This is not the smartest solution. Wood debris and dust that wakes up in the crack will quickly rot, creating favorable conditions for the reproduction of harmful insects. Not only firewood can suffer, but the dacha itself and the whole garden plot. Another danger of a slatted floor is that rotting garbage can ferment in warm weather. Not only are alcohol vapors explosive, they also have a harmful effect on health.

Important! A monolithic woodshed foundation is difficult to manufacture, but it will save you from many problems: there is no need to lay the floor and take care of the debris under it. In addition, concrete accumulates heat and then gives it off for a long time, that is, the firewood will dry out much faster.

Experts did not come to a consensus regarding the location of the slats, the angle of inclination, the distance between them. The horizontal crate reinforces the frame, but splashes bounce off it in the rain, which is not good for fuel. The horizontal grille does not have this drawback, but it does not support the framework. The best option is a diagonal grate, but it will require high-quality material.

They say that with the help of specially mounted planks, it is possible to speed up the process of drying firewood in the country, but there is no evidence for this. The best option is to sew up the top completely, and pick up the lower third with a grill. In this case, the upper part will reliably protect against precipitation, and the lower part will provide air access.

Important! Wood felled in winter or in early spring, dry to the top heating season, and firewood harvested in the summer will not be ready until next year.

Freestanding firewood shed

The simplest option is a canopy on four pillars with a floor raised above the ground. It is easy to make it yourself from leftover materials, but a large amount of fuel may not fit. A capacious separate firewood shed will require the development of a plan, the construction of a foundation on at least six columns.

Important! The distance between a residential building and a separate firewood shed cannot be less than 4 m.

Most often, firewood workers in the country are built from wooden beams and boards. The best option for the floor in the firewood shed: tongue-and-groove boards (from 40 mm), laid on logs (150x75 mm) in increments of up to 450 mm. The floor must withstand loads of approximately 1000 kgf / sq. m. The gap between the base and the ground level is in no case closed with a plinth, so that there is access for cleaning fire hazardous debris and air can circulate freely.

woodcutter open type constructed with lattice walls. If there are snowy winters in the region, then the planks are stuffed at a slight angle so that precipitation does not get inside. If the dacha does not have the required number of identical planks or boards (from 30 mm), you can use any relatively thin lumber, placing them in any order: vertically, horizontally, at an angle. The main thing is to leave as many gaps as possible. The sizes of cracks vary from 5 cm and more. Lumber is nailed with nails (preferably corrugated) or fixed with self-tapping screws.

Important! Too wide gaps in the crate will give thieves access to a supply of firewood.

The lower crown is made of timber (approximately 150x150 mm), for the side racks and the upper strapping they take a size of 100x200 mm. The recommended roof pitch is 15-20°. Often, during the construction of the roof, truss beams are not used. Instead, they arrange a crate in two tiers with a step of up to 45 cm. Longitudinal (along the long side) and transverse bars can be laid in two ways:

  • longitudinal top (good ventilation, suitable for regions with low rainfall);
  • transverse top (for places with high rainfall, snowy winters and strong winds).

For regions with harsh climatic conditions, it is recommended to arrange a canopy with a gable roof in the country. It will better protect the fuel from precipitation. But there is a nuance: the pediment needs to be made lattice, like walls, or you will have to leave small holes for ventilation.

Important! The sheathing of the walls of a gable firewood shed should be straight (horizontal or vertical), crossed or diagonal. Sheathing type "blinds" is not suitable for this design.

Woodcutter adjacent to the wall

It is much easier to build a canopy adjoining the wall of the cottage with your own hands than a free-standing structure. It is ideal for regions with warm winters with little snow, where there is no need to store a large amount of fuel. The disadvantages of an attached woodcutter include:

  • high level of fire danger;
  • the risk of infection of the cottage with bark beetles, mites, fungus.

Problems can also arise with the foundation of the building. It is good if the cottage was erected taking into account the future extension and the foundation has already been laid under it. It is almost impossible to connect the already existing foundation and the base of the woodcutter with your own hands without harming the structure.

The slope of the roof of the attached firewood shed should be directed away from the house. Then the heat from the residential building will speed up the drying of the logs. At the same time, the front wall cannot be made closed, since moist air collects under the overhang of the roof, which will prevent the firewood from drying out. Roof decking should be as light as possible so as not to overload the structure. Suitable galvanized or corrugated board.

Important! To reliably protect the fuel from precipitation, the roof overhang is arranged at least 35 cm.

Sheathing the side walls with slats with an inclination (“blinds”) will close the firewood from moisture, but will make it difficult for air to penetrate, that is, it will slow down drying. If such protection from frequent rainfall is necessary, the “blinds” strips should be placed at large intervals or mounted in a firewood shed. forced ventilation. The budget option for sheathing is poles or slabs with the “back” outward. This is a cheap, but very fragile material, which is also quite difficult to fix.

Important! Treatment from bugs and fungus will not interfere with a stone or brick cottage. Insects manage to “leak” into the smallest cracks, and fungal spores can even penetrate through the seams of brickwork.

Do-it-yourself photo of firewood for summer cottages

A rustic-style cottage will only benefit from a unique design solution- a whole wall of logs.

Building a woodshed with your own hands is very simple, like any other barn. A firewood shed can be attached to the house or made a separate structure in the country. As a woodcutter, you can build a simple firewood shed with your own hands. A woodcutter or woodcutter is a barn used to store firewood. The use of an ordinary shed for storing firewood is not profitable, because the firewood is quite voluminous and requires “special” storage: during storage, the firewood should not get wet and damp, on the contrary, it must be constantly dried. A beautifully built firewood shed not only fulfills its main function (storing firewood), but also decorates the look of the dacha.

Planning a woodshed before construction

In order to properly build a woodcutter, you should know its main function. It consists in storing firewood and logs in various weather conditions. To do this, the design of the firewood shed must protect the contents from rain and snow, while ensuring that the sun's rays stored inside the firewood are exposed and have good ventilation. The cheapest and simplest design is a canopy attached to a house or some outbuilding, with two side walls and a pallet floor on which logs are stacked.

To ensure fire safety standards, firewood should be stored away from the house and other buildings. The woodcutter should categorically not be near the barbecue or garden stove. When determining a place for a woodcutter, it is advisable to provide a car access to it (with logs), provide a place for unloading logs and a platform with a deck for chopping firewood. We strongly recommend not to make a woodcutter near the house: over time, insects living in a tree (firewood) will settle in the house! To transfer firewood from a woodcutter to a house, bath or barbecue, a firewood box is usually used.

We begin to build a firewood shed with our own hands. After determining the place of construction of the woodcutter, you should draw up its sketch or diagram. A scheme is drawn up to determine the amount of material required. Before drawing up a diagram, you should determine the dimensions of the woodshed. The dimensions of the firewood shed depend on the volume of firewood consumed, which is measured in cubic meters. With small volumes of firewood consumption (up to 3 m 3), a firewood shed built like a regular barn is suitable for storing it - 4 walls with a floor, a door and a roof. With large volumes of firewood, it will be necessary to break the woodshed into several sections with partitions. Ventilation holes should be provided in walls and partitions: firewood should be dried. An approximate scheme of a woodcutter for a volume of up to 3 m 3 is presented below:

After determining the location of the woodcutter and drawing up its scheme, you should decide on the materials from which it will be built.

As a "budget" option, a woodcutter can be made from any empty durable containers: empty barrels (both metal and wooden), containers, etc.

Tools and materials for building

For a woodcutter, a columnar foundation is ideal.

A variety of materials can be used to build a woodshed: wood, metal, brick / cinder block, etc. The choice of building material depends on personal preferences and finances. It is worth remembering that during the construction of outbuildings and a residential building, for a harmonious combination of all buildings on suburban area it is desirable to use one building material. The following is a rough list of materials for wooden woodcutter. It should be noted that modern industry produces ready-made forged woodsheds that will look good in the country next to a metal barbecue.

Necessary tools and consumables:

  1. Saw.
  2. Plane.
  3. Screwdriver.
  4. A hammer.
  5. Ladder.
  6. Timber 50x50 (for walls), 200x200 (for a small woodcutter, 150x200 is suitable).
  7. Beams, boards.
  8. Brick / cinder block.
  9. Cement.
  10. Roof material (slate, roofing felt, metal tile, etc.).
  11. Small consumable(self-tapping screws, corner nails, etc.).

The amount of materials used depends on the size of the woodcutter.

After determining the material for the manufacture of the woodcutter, we proceed to the preparatory work.

Preparatory stage before construction

After acquiring the necessary wooden material (beams, beams, boards, etc.), it must be treated with fire and bio-protective and waterproof impregnation to prevent wood decay and extend the life of the woodcutter.

Before starting construction, the selected place should be cleared of the roots of trees and large shrubs (if any). The land allotted for the woodshed is treated with a special solution from weeds (and from any other vegetation). After that, stands for logs are made of brick / cinder block. Under brick supports, it is imperative to pour the foundation to the freezing depth; they cannot be installed on the ground. Bricks are laid on the foundation and connected with cement mortar.

If you have the money, time and desire, you can significantly strengthen the coasters. To do this, dig trenches by connecting the corner stands around the perimeter. And if there are intermediate supports, connect them with trenches to the perimeter trench. Then, a reinforcing material - gravel - is poured into the trench. Ideally, trenches are dug to the depth of freezing and poured with concrete. Before pouring or filling the trenches, they should be watered abundantly, then sand should be poured with a layer of 20-30 mm, the trench should be poured again abundantly and the sand should be compacted.

The number of brick supports depends on the number of guides (lags) and their length. The height of the brick supports depends on the amount of precipitation - the woodcutter should not come into contact with moisture. The minimum recommended lifting height is 70-100 mm.

Woodcutter installation

Guides (logs) are laid and fixed on ready-made brick supports. Beams (0.2x0.35 m) should be used as lags. The frame of the floor and walls of the future woodshed is mounted on the logs. The frame is made of timber 200x200 (150x200). When installing the frame, do not forget to install additional racks under the doorway. After the installation is completed, the frame should be insulated with roofing material, and after the frame is insulated, flooring from boards is mounted on it. The frame can also be made of metal structures. The installation of the flooring is done without gaps between the boards. To give additional stability to the woodcutter, it is worth filling the gap between the floor and the ground with rubble.

Remember that when fastening wooden structures, it is better to use self-tapping screws: they provide better mechanical strength compared to nails. During installation, metal corners should be used to increase mechanical strength and speed up the installation process.

After laying the flooring, rafters are made for mounting the roof and walls are stuffed. When installing roof rafters, it makes sense to provide a visor over the doorway: it will protect the firewood from “oblique” rain or snowfall. For stuffing the walls, a 50x50 timber is used. The interval between the bars should be 20-30 mm. The interval is necessary to ensure natural ventilation of the room. When stuffing the walls, the timber can be mounted both vertically and horizontally. Walls can also be made from boards.

To ensure better moisture-proof insulation of firewood, walls can be made two-layer. To do this, the bars are stuffed onto the frame on both sides in a checkerboard pattern. The gap size remains the same. Do not make the walls of the woodshed too open: in winter, snow can sweep up the wood.

When the walls are finished, the woodshed is covered with a roof. First, roofing felt is attached to the rafters, after which slate or other material is attached. The roof can be of any shape and made of any available materials— from slate to exclusive tiles. To prevent additional loads, it is better to cover the visor with roofing felt, on which to fill the metal tile - it is quite light.

If necessary, a door can be hung on the woodcutter, on which a lock can be hung.

After completion of work, floors and walls are sanded and varnished. Varnishing will make the finished structure much more beautiful and prolong its life.

Wooden surfaces that will not be accessible after the installation of the woodcutter (for example, the ends and bottom of floorboards) should be varnished in advance.

In the presence of imagination and taste, the woodcutter can be organically fit into the design of the dacha (house). So a more elegant look to the woodcutter can be given by climbing plants planted along the perimeter near the walls. It makes sense to carry out lighting in the woodcutter so that you don’t stumble in it at night. You can decorate the entrance of the woodcutter with decorative lanterns. To give a more “residential” look to the woodcutter, several windows can be made in the walls: both decorative and real.

Patterns can be carved on the walls of the woodcutter. The internal space of the woodshed can be used not only for storing firewood, but also for storing various equipment and using it to dry any items. For example, under the roof you can stretch a rope on which bath brooms or plants (mint, willow-herb, etc.) can dry.

Almost everyone who has Vacation home, store firewood on the site to kindle the stove in the house, bathhouse or just make a barbecue. Used to store firewood various options woodworkers. Even if a dacha for someone is only a place for a summer vacation and does not involve trips there during the cold season, firewood is needed in order to heat a bathhouse or make barbecue. Of course, you can use coals in a bag or buy bundles of firewood that are popular in the summer season, but this is very inconvenient if the cottage is far from shops. That is why a small supply of firewood is, as a rule, in any summer cottage.

If the cottage needs heating, then the wood-burning stove will be a real "salvation" for country house. Agree, not all houses have sufficient power of electricity. In addition, it is the simplest and cheapest type of heating. Finally, a stove is an indispensable attribute of a country holiday: it is beautiful, creates comfort and atmosphere. Many people save firewood for the whole season and store it in specially equipped firewood sheds. This allows you to protect the firewood from precipitation and dry the still damp firewood. In this article we will talk about how to make a firewood for a summer residence with your own hands.

Device

A firewood shed is a structure made of wood or metal that is used as a storehouse for firewood. Firewood for summer cottages can be completely different, the main thing is that they meet the basic requirements.

  • The device must be capacious and allow access to firewood without difficulty.
  • The firewood shed should be open enough so that the firewood does not get damp and is ventilated. If there are fresh logs in the firewood shed, then they should be able to dry out.
  • The structure must have a roof that will protect the logs from rain and snow.
  • The logger should be positioned so that direct sunlight does not fall on it. Ultraviolet has a bad effect on wood, reduces its suitability for its intended use.
  • Of course, it is desirable that the woodcutter is neat so as not to spoil the entire landscape of the site.

There are various designs of woodsheds depending on their location and type.

Woodcutter, which is leaning against the building (house, barn, bathhouse)

This is the simplest design, in which the wall of the building is the back wall of the firewood shed. But this design has a number of serious drawbacks:

  • Fire hazard. Large amount of dry wood near the house.
  • A large number of insects live in wood. This problem can be solved by treating the woodcutter with a special compound or by separating the firewood from the building with a sheet of metal.

The woodshed near the building is recommended to be located from the north or where the place is most open to the winds. Of course, a canopy against the wall is a very simple design, so it may not differ in beauty. It is better to hide such a canopy from the least visible part. The simplest scheme is 4 supports, a raised floor and 4 walls with a canopy.

Lumberjack standing apart from buildings

This is a more beautiful and reliable building. Such a device involves the design and construction plan. Such a canopy can be built in a suitable place and even beautify the landscape. The woodcutter will require time from you, but it will serve for a long time, and the firewood will be constantly blown from all directions.

Portable

Separately, it is worth mentioning a portable firewood shed, which is necessary for storing a small amount of firewood. Such options are needed to keep firewood closer to the place of use. These are structures made of wood or metal that are easy to move along with firewood. As a rule, these are beautiful designs that complement the interior. A portable firewood must:

  • be easy;
  • be beautiful;
  • easy to carry.

Such woodsheds are located indoors. You can see such designs next to the fireplaces in the house.

How to choose material?

Sometimes the woodcutter is hidden in the farthest or most inconspicuous corner of the site, and then it is built without thinking about its appearance. Any improvised materials, the remains of various boards and logs can be used. You can make a firewood shed without walls and supports. Then evenly stacked firewood is covered with any material that will protect them from precipitation.

The most common woodworking material is wood. Wooden firewood is made from boards and beams. Metal elements are also used. For example, pipes sheathed with a board. The roof is made of any light but rigid material. For example, galvanized iron, corrugated board, slate (it is quite heavy), ondulin, roofing material.

When choosing materials for a firewood shed, it is important to pay attention to its design. If a simple wooden woodcutter fits the style, then the design will be made of boards and beams. If you plan to use metal not only for support, but also for the walls of the firewood shed, then you can think about a forged firewood shed. Often portable woodsheds are made of metal.

Here are the materials you will need to create a regular wooden woodcutter.

  • Board for the floor. This is necessary so that the logs do not lie on the ground. The board should be chosen thick, not thinner than 2.5 cm, so that it can withstand firewood.

  • Concrete blocks instead of foundation.

  • Beam, logs. For the base of the floor.

  • Frame boards.

  • Beam for the frame.

  • Roof boards.

  • Roofing material. Polycarbonate, slate or corrugated board.

  • Nails and screws.

Required tools:

  • electric drill;
  • shovel;
  • screwdriver;
  • plumb;

Barrels, former rabbit pens, and even pallets and rings for wells are also used to build and construct original woodsheds. Such options do not require the creation of a drawing and are distinguished not only by external originality, but also by the ease of creating a structure.

How to do it yourself?

Below is an instruction for creating firewood. Let's start with the option of a stand-alone woodcutter. For the construction of such a structure, it is necessary to make drawings for manufacturing, so that the woodcutter turns out to be of a given size and fit into the landscape. The basis will be 6 logs. These are the supports that create the frame. Consider how to build a woodcutter in stages.

  • Define and designate the construction area on the site. Dig 6 holes for the supports - 3 each in the front and back. The dimensions of the recesses are not less than 30 cm by 30 cm, and the depth is up to 50 cm. Fill the holes with crushed stone by 15 cm and tamp. Make holes for logs.

  • Logs must be deepened by a minimum of 25 cm. Treat the log with an antiseptic. Wrap with ruberoid. Secure the supports with concrete or stone. Treat the ends of the logs too.

  • The length of the logs at the front and back should be different to create a roof slope. The rear logs should be lower than the front logs by at least 3 cm.

  • Place the transverse logs, the basis for the floor. Secure them by connecting to the supports. The transverse logs should be raised 10 cm above the ground to provide ventilation.

  • Install the floor boards on the logs. Leave a small distance between the boards, up to 2 cm, for ventilation from the floor. Use wood screws and a screwdriver for fastening. You can use nails.

  • Form the walls on three sides of the boards. The step between the boards is about 15 cm. You can use a grid. It's over cheap option but less beautiful.

  • Install 3 rafters on the woodcutter frame to make a roof. Place 5 more logs across. Fasten the roof to the frame. Use nails for slate and roofing material. Self-tapping screws are used for fastening corrugated board and ondulin.

  • It is possible to use shingles instead of 5 logs for the roof frame and cover it with roofing felt or other roofing material.

  • Coat the wood with varnish. You can paint the firewood shed with paint and decorate with decorative designs.

Pay attention to the following details.

  1. Be sure to take into account the slope of the roof so that the snow falls freely down.
  2. The roof should be larger than the woodshed. The protrusion should be about 25 cm.
  3. Be sure to have a floor that is raised above the soil by 10 cm.
  4. There should be gaps in the walls and in the floor for free ventilation. These elements are made of wood.
  5. All wooden materials treat with an antiseptic before fixing.
  6. You can decorate the firewood shed with carvings, plants, sculptures.
  7. To protect firewood from moisture, create drainage.

To build a firewood shed that is adjacent to the building, no special instructions are needed. It is created in the same way as a separate woodcutter. Such a firewood shed should also be well ventilated, because one of its walls is solid, unlike the previous variation. The materials for the roof and frame are the same.

There are a number of distinctive features for such a building.

  1. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the woodcutter stands right next to the house. It is necessary to make sure that water from the roof of the building does not fall on the firewood.
  2. The woodcutter located from the north will insulate the northern wall of the house. The house will close the firewood from unwanted light.
  3. In this case, the floor is also needed. Firewood should not be stored directly on the ground.
  4. To give aesthetics, you can make doors that close the firewood. If you place the firewood shed on a covered terrace, then it will be more pleasant and easier to go out for logs from the house.

Dachas, as well as country houses, need alternative fuel, which is most often used as firewood. They are necessary for kindling stoves, baths and barbecues. For the storage of firewood, special structures are used - firewood sheds. In some cases, sheds are converted for this purpose. Everyone can build a woodcutter with their own hands, however, for this you need to study the order of work and the rules that contribute to the correct drawing up of drawings.

There are several options for simple structures that allow you to store firewood. In this case, it is very important to understand the terminology, since, for example, a woodcutter can differ from a woodcutter. In some regions of Russia, these terms denote the same concept, but there are still differences between these buildings.

A firewood shed is a firewood shed that is made of wood and most often has a foundation. This building belongs to the group of detached buildings, therefore it is not adjacent to a residential building. In turn, a woodcutter is a simplified version of a woodcutter. Its main difference lies in the fact that it has a canopy structure, which is adjacent to a residential building.

Another building for storing fuel is a woodshed, its structure is the simplest. The firewood box is a small basket with which firewood is carried. This term can also refer to a firewood stand.

Photos of firewood and other structures allow you to more clearly understand their differences from each other. Despite the differences, each of these structures is used to store firewood. When assembling a woodpile, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with its structural features, due to its intended purpose.

Features of storing firewood in the country or in a country house

Firewood is an indispensable resource that allows you to heat suburban residential buildings. In those places where there is no gasification, similar fuel is used. It is used not only to provide heating, but also to kindle a bath, and also if you want to cook meat on the grill. In order for the firewood not to become damp, it is necessary to pay attention to several nuances of their storage.

As a rule, firewood is stored for a long time, so the volumes of purchased or harvested lots are quite large. Such fuel can be stored in a shed, garage, or any other structure that has a roof. In some cases, the owners of the site build a special woodpile (standing separately or adjacent to the wall of the house).

In order to complete it yourself, you need to study the algorithm of work, which makes it possible to answer the question of how to build a woodcutter in the country with your own hands in stages. Photo and video materials are also recommended for viewing.

Helpful information! Freshly cut firewood must be thoroughly dried before use. It is very important to understand that if the logs are not dry enough, they will not be able to provide the necessary degree of heating of the room if they are used in a stove or fireplace. Damp wood also emits much more smoke, which contributes to clogging the chimney.

An important point is not only the location of the firewood, but also the conditions for their storage. Logs should never get wet. Woodsheds or woodsheds for summer cottages allow you to provide the necessary conditions fuel storage. There are several requirements for these structures that they must meet.

First of all, it is necessary that such a structure be located in a convenient place. The dimensions of the woodshed are selected individually, depending on the needs of the owners of the cottage or country house. However, the design must be of sufficient size to accommodate a large supply of firewood.

When storing logs, it is necessary to ensure their ventilation. Firewood should be well ventilated so as not to become damp. One of the main rules is that outdoor firewood is always carried out with a canopy. It is needed to protect the logs from the effects of precipitation.

The direct influence of sunlight on wooden logs negatively affects their structure. Such firewood dries out very much and, when used, burns out very quickly, not having time to give off enough heat. Among other things, the woodshed should harmoniously fit into the design of the site.

Do-it-yourself woodcutter: how to choose the right place

When choosing a place for a structure in which firewood will be stored, it is necessary to focus on several points. First of all, you should pay attention to the estimated dimensions of the structure, which, in turn, are determined by individual needs.

If the need for firewood is limited to cooking barbecue on the grill, then it is recommended to place the woodpile closer to the cooking area of the meat dish. In this case, the choice of the construction site is explained by simple convenience. It is worth noting that you can not place a wooden firewood rack too close to the barbecue. The distance must be sufficient so that the wood structure does not ignite from an accidental spark.

Experts do not recommend installing a woodpile in the center of the site. This is because such an arrangement makes the woodcutter the main architectural structure on which attention is focused. Most often, this design is located in close proximity to a residential building.

Among other things, a place for a woodcutter must be chosen taking into account the fact whether there is a flower garden or vegetable garden on the site. The woodpile, as a rule, has rather large dimensions, giving a significant shadow, in the area of \u200b\u200bwhich green spaces can fall.

When assembling the woodpile with your own hands, you need to ensure its maximum availability. Do not place it too close to other household structures on the site. It is advisable to pave a path to it. This will provide convenient access to the structure during the rainy and winter seasons.

Firewood must be protected not only from atmospheric precipitation, but also from moisture accumulating in the soil. The woodpile is recommended to be placed on a hill. If it stands in a lowland, then the firewood will quickly get wet, since water is concentrated in such areas after rains. Do-it-yourself firewood sheds for giving on the street are made in such a way that their lower part is located slightly above the soil level.

Helpful information! In order to simplify the selection of the most suitable site for such a structure, it is recommended to draw a simple site plan. It must indicate the house, outbuildings and all other operated areas. This will allow you to assess the feasibility of placing a woodcutter in one place or another.

Free-standing woodpile are the most common variety. Quite often you can find a hozblok with a woodshed. In some cases, wall structures are installed that are adjacent to the dwelling. The choice of a place is a very important event, on which the ease of operation of the future structure for storing firewood depends.

Do-it-yourself woodcutter in the country: choosing the right size of the structure

Before starting to build a woodshed, you need to assess your personal needs for wood fuel. In case of irregular use of logs (for example, for cooking barbecue), you can get by with the design small size. However, the level of demand for firewood may be higher. For example, in winter period fireplaces are used to heat summer cottages, so wood fuel is a daily necessity. In such a situation, it is best to install a voluminous firewood shed with a good supply of logs.

As an example, it is recommended to pay attention to the photo of woodpile for firewood, which have different dimensions. small structures contain a rather limited supply of wood, which, however, can easily be replenished. Larger buildings, reminiscent of sheds, are intended for the constant use of firewood.

In any case, the main thing to focus on when choosing the dimensions of the woodpile is individual needs. Before installation, it is recommended to carry out an approximate calculation of the size of the structure, as well as to study various photos of firewood. For giving, several varieties of these buildings are used, which can be verified visually. In this case, you should be guided by the value corresponding to the required volume of wood.

Varieties of structures for storing firewood

The next step (after calculating the dimensions and choosing a suitable place) is the selection of the type of structure. First of all, you need to compare the budget with the desired result. In some cases, exclusively improvised means are used to build woodpile.

Today, there are several types of woodpile, which are worth paying attention to. Each of the varieties has its own characteristics depending on the design. Consider which options for storage facilities for logs are most common.

Canopy. This design is one of the most common. This is due to the fact that it is easy to perform. Everyone can do the simplest shed for firewood with their own hands. Firewood sheds for summer cottages, made in the form of a canopy, have only 3 walls, a floor, and a roof that protects the logs from atmospheric precipitation.

Note! When choosing this type of woodpile, it is recommended to make the floor slightly raised. This will protect the firewood from getting wet from below. The canopy can be both free-standing and wall-mounted.

Arbors. This design is the most attractive, so more funds will be required for its construction. Photos of firewood in the form of a gazebo allow you to evaluate their advantages. The design includes a door and can be freestanding. In addition, buildings of this type are quite common, which, in addition to storing firewood, perform several other functions. In this case, the woodpile is referred to as a hozblok.

open structures. This building consists of 2 walls and a floor that rises to protect the firewood from getting wet. The classic version of the open woodpile eliminates the presence of a roof. However, some owners still cover the firewood with a canopy. Such a design is quite simple to do with your own hands. How does a photo of a woodcutter contribute to the choice of its type? Pictures allow you to visually assess the feasibility of a particular structure.

Sheds. It is not necessary to design a special structure for storing logs. Firewood can be stacked in a regular shed. But it is worth remembering that this option is convenient with a small amount of logs, since the place in the barn is often occupied by tools, old furniture and other items.

What materials are suitable for the construction of a firewood shed or firewood shed for a summer residence

The main material that is used in the installation of woodpile is wood. For the construction of these structures, both ordinary boards and wooden beam. In the second case, the structure looks more presentable. Timber buildings are an excellent solution if the territory of the site is decorated in a natural style.

Often wooden pallets are used for this purpose. A woodcutter from pallets is a simple but effective design. In addition, for the installation of such a structure, you can take other unnecessary materials, for example, metal pipes, chipboard sheets, etc.

The basic rules applied in the construction of such a structure require the arrangement of good natural ventilation and a protective canopy. In addition to wood, other materials can be used to make such a structure. For example, polycarbonate sheets are very popular. This modern raw material has a lot of advantages and a fairly affordable cost.

Another material that is used in the installation of woodpile is metal. Forged firewood racks have a presentable appearance, they look stylish and elegant. Most often, small structures are made of metal. This is due to the large weight, as well as the rather high cost of the material. The advantages of such woodpile include their high strength.

Helpful information! To protect the material from rusting, metal products must be painted or treated with a special anti-corrosion compound.

Having certain skills in construction, if desired, you can assemble a firewood shed from any material with your own hands. Photos of structures will help determine the choice of variety. A woodcutter is easy to make from improvised means. For this purpose, old boards and other unnecessary materials are suitable. If it is necessary to prepare a woodpile for storing firewood, which will be used exclusively for igniting the barbecue, then the task is greatly simplified. Under this function, you can adapt a small closet.

Do-it-yourself woodcutter: drafting and preparing tools

Preparation of a preliminary drawing is required if you decide to build a firewood shed. This design is suitable not only for storing logs, but also for storing tools and other things. Drawing up a diagram simplifies the determination of the area of \u200b\u200bthe future structure. Video materials will help to properly design a woodpile for firewood with your own hands. Photos of the various assembly steps also help to understand the principles of assembly.

The stock of firewood is a value that is determined by the individual needs of the owners of the site. In order to provide heating for a residential building with an area of 100 m², approximately 1.9 m³ of dry wood will be required. It is important to remember that various breeds trees have a different degree of heat transfer. For example, in the case of using pine logs, they will need more by 0.2 m³, and birch, on the contrary, less by 0.2 m³.

If necessary, you can take as a basis a ready-made drawing of a woodcutter in the country with your own hands. It is recommended to choose the size with a small margin, as it may always be necessary to prepare a larger amount of firewood. The structure for storing freshly cut logs should be approximately 2 times more spacious than the structure for dry fuel, since the heat transfer of raw firewood is 50% lower.

When choosing the dimensions of the woodcutter, it is also worth considering the characteristics of the stove. The efficiency of these devices can vary greatly. For example, for high-tech modern units, this figure reaches 80%. Such stoves process one batch of firewood for about 8-10 hours, which significantly reduces the need for wood fuel. After drawing up the drawing, you need to prepare everything necessary tools to assemble the woodpile:

  • drill (for columnar construction);
  • ladder;
  • ordinary hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • plumb;
  • pliers;
  • twine thread.

Helpful information! Dry firewood is called logs, the moisture content of which does not exceed 20%.

Step-by-step instructions and videos will help answer the question of how to build a woodcutter with your own hands. The purchase of the necessary raw materials is made after determining the type of woodcutter and drawing up a drawing. The scheme should contain all the necessary dimensions and estimates, taking into account the amount of wood, polycarbonate or metal.

How to build a woodshedon a columnar foundation: instructions

This kind of woodpile is called stationary. To assemble such a structure, you will need to make a columnar foundation. This woodpile differs in reliability and long operational term. In the process of organizing the foundation, a pit is prepared for each pillar. The depth of such holes is determined by the freezing line of the soil. Subsequently, they are concreted, which increases the reliability of the structure.

How to make a woodcutter with a foundation? Pole concreting is not a necessary assembly point. In some cases, the pits are simply filled with sand and gravel. It is important to remember that the installation of the structure on top of the soil is strictly prohibited, since the structure will not have proper stability. Fixing is required in any case.

Supports can be made of bricks or foam blocks. Individual elements of the pillars are treated with a solution, which allows for adhesion to subsequent products. For a compact firewood shed for summer cottages, it is not necessary to use many poles - four are enough (in the corners). However, for the hozblok, which includes not only a woodcutter, but also other devices, more supports will be required.

After organizing the foundation, you can proceed to the installation of the frame of the future woodcutter. The frame is the basis of the whole structure, so this stage is very important.

How to make a firewood in the country with your own hands(columnar): frame and sheathing

For these purposes, ordinary bars with dimensions of 150x200 mm are suitable. Individual elements of the frame are fixed to each other by means of metal corners and self-tapping screws. If desired, only self-tapping screws can be used to join the bars, but they must be of sufficient length.

It is worth noting that it is recommended to treat the wooden parts of the frame with special impregnations that increase specifications material. Compositions of this type provide resistance to moisture and counteract the penetration of insects. As a waterproofing material, roofing material is used, which must be folded 2 times. The installation of the frame is carried out taking into account the previously drawn up drawing for the manufacture of a woodcutter in the country. It is not very difficult to assemble such a structure with your own hands, but you need to be careful.

Frame elements located in a vertical plane are installed using a building corner. It is important to remember that there is a certain sequence for mounting the frame racks. This process is carried out in the following order:

  • rear racks;
  • side;
  • front.

The next step is to perform top harness frame structure with wooden elements. To understand the nuances of installation, photos of firewood sheds on the street for a summer residence (at different stages of assembly) will clearly help.

After installing the truss system for the future roof, you can begin to form a doorway. To do this, you will need to fix two beams of the appropriate size at the required height.

Note! The door is not a mandatory element of the columnar structure for storing firewood, but most often it is done as a precaution.

How to make a firewoodwith a foundation: the final stage

After assembling the frame structure, you can proceed to its sheathing. First of all, it is necessary to tile the horizontal bars, which are the base of the floor, with a floorboard. It is not necessary to precisely adjust the ends of the boards to each other. The presence of small gaps is not an installation error - this will not interfere with the operation of the woodpile. In addition, the cracks will help to ventilate the firewood.

When choosing the type of roofing, it is best to focus on single-sided version. This design is simple to implement and requires fewer materials. If desired, you can make a gable roof. To decide on the option of the roof will help photos of firewood for summer cottages. With your own hands, it is recommended to organize a small visor above the entrance to the woodpile. This will protect the firewood from rain coming at an angle.

For the manufacture of a visor, an end board is most often used. It is fixed to the front of the roof by means of special dies. The sequence of actions for organizing the visor is as follows: the ends of the dies must be cut off (at an angle), after which the board must be docked with them. This operation requires additional fixation, which is provided by props.

The cladding material is selected depending on the individual preferences of the owners, the budget, and also taking into account the general concept of the site. The modern market provides a large selection of raw materials with which you can bring to life any designs of firewood in the country. Photos of designs made in different stylistic directions will help you identify the pros and cons of each option.

Most often, home craftsmen choose the most budgetary and simple plating option - boards. Facing the frame of the woodpile with this material is carried out using self-tapping screws. The step of the board should be such that between the individual wooden details a small gap remained. If a wooden beam was chosen as the skin, then wider gaps (2.5-3 cm) can be arranged.

If you follow the instructions and study the photo and video materials, there should be no problems when self erection such a building. This will answer the question of how to build a woodshed with your own hands. The project drawn up before installation must include all the nuances.

Like wooden frame elements, cladding boards must be treated with antiseptic agents and waterproofing impregnation. In order to prolong the operational juice of the structure in which firewood will be stored, it is recommended to paint it with paint or varnish it. This will protect the wood from decay and the damaging effects of environmental factors.

Wall-mounted woodcutter for a summer house with your own hands: photo

A wall firewood shed is a building with a canopy, which is adjacent to a residential building, utility block or bathhouse. This design has several advantages over a woodcutter. The main advantage of the structure is that its installation allows you to save money. The ease of execution of the building is also considered its important advantage.

Note! Before you start assembling a wall woodpile for firewood with your own hands, it is recommended to choose a place where it will adjoin a residential building. Most suitable option in this case is the north wall of the house. This is explained quite simply: in this case, the firewood will be protected from direct sunlight.

The very process of forming a wall structure is almost identical to the assembly order of a standard free-standing version. However, there is one important difference that is worth noting. The woodshed adjacent to the wall is vulnerable to atmospheric precipitation flowing down from the roof of a residential building. This fact requires a special attitude to the design of the woodpile roof. It should have a sufficient bevel so that the water quickly flows down it.

The slope is performed from the wall, which is very important. Moreover, this rule also applies to structures that are made close to the utility block or bath. A firewood rack for storing logs of this type is assembled quite simply. First of all, you need to understand the principles of constructing a visor.

The installation of the roof consists of two stages. First, two boards should be nailed to the top of the structure, which will be located in a horizontal plane. They perform a supporting function. At the second stage, the canopy is sheathed with slate or metal tiles.

For some people, such actions may seem too complicated, but assembling structures involving a frame, walls and roof requires some effort. More simple options can be built in a matter of hours (for example, do-it-yourself woodcutter from pallets).

The installation of the frame and its sheathing are carried out in the same way as in the case of a free-standing structure. It is worth noting that the wall woodpile does not require the arrangement of the rear partition.

Building a simple portable firewood rack with your own hands

Firewood racks are essentially stands for logs. The simplest version of such a building can be completed in just a few hours. To assemble a simple structure, it is still recommended to draw up a drawing. The simplest scheme can be borrowed from any profile site on the network. However, in this case, it is necessary to pay attention to the dimensions indicated in the drawing. They must fully meet specific operational needs.

Helpful information! You can assemble a firewood for a summer residence with your own hands from improvised means. Old boards are perfect for this purpose. But still it is recommended to pay attention to their suitability. Rotten, crumbling material is not suitable for building a wooden stand.

To increase the strength characteristics of the structure, it is necessary to use not only fixing screws, but also auxiliary means (for example, glue). As in the case of bulk storage, it is desirable to treat a small stand with antiseptic and moisture-resistant impregnations.

On the network you can find many projects of firewood for the dacha with your own hands. Photo schemes most often include a drawing with all the necessary geometric parameters. To assemble such a structure, special tools and materials will be required.

To install the bottom frame of the stand, it is necessary to prepare 2 boards, the length of which should be 150 cm. You will also need 4 short boards of 34 cm each. The side racks are constructed using 6 bars (4 by 150 cm and 2 by 34 cm). In addition, 2 boards with a size of 145 cm should be prepared. During the construction of this structure, the following tools are used:

  • saw (end type);
  • drill;
  • set of drills;
  • jigsaw;
  • building level;
  • roulette;
  • pencil.

The first step in the installation of such a design is the assembly of the frame. In order to make a frame, it is necessary to make several holes in the boards (for screws). Next, the screws are tightened into the middle supporting elements. To understand the principle of designing such a stand for logs, it is recommended to study the photo of do-it-yourself woodsheds made of wood.

Then you need to attach the side racks to the frame. After that, it is necessary to drill through holes through the beams and screw them to the posts with screws. At the last stage, the upper crossbars are fixed to the structure, which must be docked with the rear racks.

Do-it-yourself metal woodcutter: drawings, a list of building materials

Today it is possible to make a firewood shed not only from wood or budget materials such as polycarbonate, but also from metal. Forged structures look the most impressive. However, it is very difficult to build such a building with your own hands, since you need to have knowledge in the field of metal processing, as well as the ability to use welding equipment.

Note! The most common type of metal firewood rack involves the use of profile parts. Profile pipes can be rectangular, square, oval and multifaceted. The most suitable option is the use of rolled metal, the cross section of which has a rectangular shape.

Profile pipes can be made from different alloys. For firewood, aluminum parts are most often used. If desired, such a stand for firewood can be completed in just 2-3 hours. Before starting the assembly, it is necessary to draw up a drawing with all dimensions.

The simplest metal firewood rack is made quite simply. First you need to prepare the materials from which the individual parts of the frame of the structure will be made. For a small stand, it is enough to purchase an aluminum profile pipe 2.5 m long. In addition, you will need to prepare the following materials:

  • brackets;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • paint (black).

The tools that are needed to install a metal woodpile are limited to a grinder and a tape measure. For assembly accuracy, it is recommended to purchase a building level, but it is not a mandatory fixture.

Firewood for summer cottages made of metal: step by step instructions for assembly and installation

For the installation of the structure, first of all, it is required to prepare parts of the required dimensions from an aluminum pipe. To do this, it is cut in half. Then the bracket is cut, having the shape of the Latin letter L. It must be divided into 4 parts (60 cm each). These parts will serve as vertical racks. Then the second bracket is divided into 4 parts. The length of each of them is 30 cm. And also 4 brackets of 15 cm each and the same number of legs are made from it, the length of which should not exceed 5 cm.

Many people are interested in the question of how to build a cheap woodshed with your own hands. Videos and photos contribute to this goal. On the initial stage side supports must be installed. It is important to remember that the top of the horizontal bracket must be 5 cm long from the bottom of the support, which is installed vertically. In order to fix these two elements together, through holes should be drilled in them. Self-tapping screws are used for fastening.

After assembling the side supports, you need to increase their rigidity. To do this, they are joined together by stiffeners, which are used as pieces of aluminum rolled metal. A firewood shed from a profile pipe will last for many years if properly assembled.

Next, you need to mount the supporting elements. After attaching the legs, you will need to attach the brackets to the uprights lying in a vertical plane. The fixation angle of these elements is 45°. Thus, the simplest metal stand for firewood is assembled. After installation, you can start painting the firewood in the country. Photos of such structures allow us to evaluate their advantages, which include presentability and compactness.

Note! Experts recommend preparing a place for a rack. The preparation includes two stages. First you need to level the soil. The second thing to do is to pour gravel into the installation site of the woodcutter made of metal and carefully compact it. These simple steps will create a platform for a small metal woodpile.

Do-it-yourself wood shed installation features: preparatory stage

The shed in which firewood will be stored can be done with your own hands. All that is needed for this is a set of suitable tools and materials, as well as a desire. Before starting the assembly, it is necessary to determine the dimensions of the structure, and also, based on these dimensions, find the most suitable place for the location of an economic structure of this type.

Materials for the construction of a do-it-yourself woodshed barn can be different. The most commonly used wood. In some cases, a combination of a metal frame and sheathing from wooden boards is made. In addition, the barn can be made entirely of metal, but this option is the most expensive, so it is very rarely considered by home craftsmen.

Preparation for the assembly of this design includes several important steps. First of all, you need to draw up a drawing of a woodcutter for a summer residence with your own hands. Photos of finished schemes can be easily found on the network using the search bar of the browser. Certainly, the best option is a personalized plan. In this case, the design will maximally correspond to the features of a particular site.

After drawing up a diagram containing information about the dimensions of the individual components of the log shed, you will need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • lumber (bars and boards);
  • 2 sheets of eighteen-millimeter plywood (2450x680 and 2500x1200 mm);
  • felt for the roof (approximately 2.5 m²);
  • tiles (2.5 m²);
  • screws.

Having drawn up a diagram and prepared everything necessary for self-construction of a barn, you can proceed directly to the installation. It also consists of several stages, which are recommended to study in detail.

How to make a woodcutter in the country with your own hands-shed: work algorithm

Experts advise to strictly follow the sequence of actions when installing a log shed. The first step in the installation of such a structure is the assembly of the floor frame. For these purposes, wooden bars are used. They must be thick enough to withstand the load that will be placed on them by the wood supply.

Helpful information! After installation of the floor, the evenness of the corners is checked. To do this, you can use the building corner. If the frame is uneven, then this will affect the entire structure.

At the next stage, vertical support posts are attached to the outer side of the floor frame. Before proceeding with fixing the support beams of the street firewood for summer cottages, it is necessary to check whether the floor is horizontal.

Next, you need to complete the flooring with wooden boards. For this purpose, it is recommended to use edged material. The boards are attached to the support frame with galvanized screws. After that, you will need to cut the ends of the rafters. The angle in this case is 15°. Then the rafters are fixed to the uprights and common slats. The distance between the rafters should be approximately 60 cm. This will ensure proper load distribution.

The next step in assembling a wooden firewood for a summer house with your own hands is to organize the roof. In order to make a roof, first of all, you need to make a flooring from a smaller sheet of plywood. It is fixed to the rafters with screws. The pitch of the screws is approximately 15 cm. Then you should cover the plywood with special felt, after which you can proceed with the installation of the tiles. It is important to remember that the fastening of the finish roofing material starts from the lower left edge of the roof.

The correct arrangement of firewood in the woodpile will significantly increase its capacity. To date, there are several options for storing wood fuel, which are recommended to pay attention to. If the woodpile has small dimensions, then there should be no problems with storing firewood. The same goes for the narrow design, in which the logs are arranged in one row.

In turn, when laying out firewood in a woodshed or shed, certain problems may arise related to access to various rows. A large number of wood is best stored in the following way: select several main sectors and stack firewood in them, leaving a passage in the center. Thus, the possibility of overlapping logs is excluded. Photos of stacks filled with firewood clearly demonstrate the merits of various storage methods.

Sectors in a square overall woodshed should not have more than 2 rows of firewood. Otherwise, getting to the logs will be much more difficult. Rectangular wall and separately worthwhile options can be divided into several compartments using partitions. This will allow you to distinguish between dry and more humid firewood.

How to put firewood in a round woodpileright

In some cases, the amount of firewood stored is too large. This can become a problem if the dimensions of the storage do not allow to accommodate such a number of logs. In such a situation, it is possible to store firewood in an open area. This option is very popular and is found everywhere in the villages.

Note! The outer row of firewood in a round woodpile has a beveled arrangement, which contributes to the runoff of rainwater.

Thus, this solution is a way out if the amount of fuel exceeds the capacity of the change house with a firewood shed. It is not recommended to make an open woodpile too large if such a manipulation is done for the first time. It is very important that it is located in a place to which the sun's rays have access.

This method allows you to store firewood outside the woodshed. How to make a round woodpile with your own hands? Before starting the laying of the first row, it is necessary to carry out a substrate on the ground. Gravel is used for these purposes. To ensure the correct radius of storage, a crosspiece made of wooden stakes is used.

The base of the round woodpile is laid out in a ring. There should be an empty space in the center of it. The result is a closed chain of logs. Next, the second row is laid. It is important to remember that the firewood of the second row should be placed across the first layer (with a slight slope in the middle). The empty center (as the woodpile is stored) forms a kind of core-pipe. It contributes to good ventilation of the entire structure.

Stakes are placed between the rows. They must be cross-shaped. These elements support the woodpile and prevent it from falling apart. When the structure becomes higher than 1 m, you can fill the core with firewood (arbitrarily). Then the subsequent rows are layered. For the formation of the last row, it is recommended to choose the most flat logs. After storing firewood, the structure is covered on top with bark or any other material that does not interfere with ventilation.

Firewood is most often used for heating a country house or cottage. There are certain rules for storing logs that must be observed. The presence of a woodcutter will allow you to allocate a specific place for firewood and simplify their use. Before starting the construction of such a structure, it is required to draw up a diagram and select a convenient site for this structure.
