Sketches of beautiful gates and wickets. Gate options for giving

  • 20.06.2020

A neat fence with beautiful gates and a gate is a memorable visiting card of the owner.

Their appearance characterizes the owner, shows his wealth and economy, because the fence and gate are the first thing that guests and passers-by see.

A good gate, and if it is with decorative elements, it is not cheap. The price depends on the chosen material and on the price of the work, usually the work comes out as a material.

To save on work, you need to know how to make metal.

Material selection

If the fence is brick, then the material from which the gate will be made is not fundamental, if the fence is, then it is better to make the gate out of it.

The gate should stand out against the background of the fence, but at the same time harmonize in color and material. In order to immediately know how much material is needed, you can first sketch out the drawings of the future gate.

Gate material:

  1. Metal blanks, the metal must be high-carbon, this will prevent rapid corrosion.
  2. For poles, pipes or a profile with a diameter of at least 100 mm are suitable.
  3. Profile pipe or corner for the gate frame.
  4. A sheet of metal with a thickness of 1.5 mm or a sheet of metal profile for sheathing.
  5. Metal curtains preferably with a bearing mechanism.
  6. Lock.
  7. Primer.
  8. Dye.
  9. Fluid for anti-corrosion treatment.

Tools for work:

  1. For marking you will need a thread, a plumb line and a tape measure.
  2. The welding machine is semi-automatic with a power of 220 W.
  3. Manual drill, if available, or a shovel.
  4. A sledgehammer for driving posts.
  5. Screwdriver and drill for fastening the skin to the frame.
  6. Bulgarian for cutting metal and cleaning seams from welding.

Pillar installation

Pillars are the bearing part that holds the entire structure of the gate or wicket. The length of the pillars should exceed the height of the overall structure by 1 meter so that they can be buried in the ground for reliable stability.

With a drill in the ground, it is necessary to make two wells at a distance of about 1 m, with a depth of about 50-70 cm. Poles are inserted into these wells and an additional 30 cm are driven in with a sledgehammer.

After, the pillars are leveled vertically and poured with concrete at the base. To give additional rigidity to the pillars, they are welded with a transverse profile in the upper part.

Frame collection

The size of the frame of the future gate must be made less than the width of the opening of the pillars by 5-8 cm for a comfortable turn of the sash. The distance from the ground to the gate leaf should be from 15 to 20 cm, this is necessary in case of snowfall.

The metal frame is welded from a profile or a corner with a metal thickness of 3 mm. The profiles are welded together at the corners of the frame. To make the frame rigid, an additional transverse bar is welded in the middle.

In the resulting frame halves, an additional one profile is welded obliquely in such a way that they resemble the Latin letter “Z” to each other. After that, sheathing made of metal profile or iron will be attached to all the racks of the finished frame and additional stiffeners.

Preparatory work is a very important part. Before you start cooking the frame, you need to cut the workpiece with a grinder in size, remove burrs at the cut points, degrease the cuts with gasoline or a special solution. And then on a flat, pre-prepared surface, start cooking.

The surface on which you are going to assemble the frame with your own hands must be necessarily even, if this is not the case, then a kink at one of the corners may result, and the frame will take the form of a propeller.

After the frame is ready, curtains are welded to it. They consist of two parts, one part is welded to the door frame, the second - to the pillars. It is desirable that the curtains be with a bearing mechanism.

Frame sheathing

For sheathing, it is best to take a sheet of galvanized metal or a painted metal profile sheet, it does not corrode and will last a long period.

From a sheet of metal that was prepared in advance, a whole piece is cut to the size of the welded frame of the gate. If there is no such large piece of metal and it is impossible to cut a whole piece, then try to cut it so that the seam of the connection of the pieces of metal falls on the middle transverse bar of the frame.

Further, with your own hands, pressing the sheet of metal tightly against the frame, grab it around the perimeter. If you have chosen a metal profile sheet or galvanized metal, then attach it with rivets or self-tapping screws using a drill and a screwdriver.

Lock and handle insert

After you have finished with the sheathing, you need to embed the lock. For gates, it is best suited for three crossbars that extend into the locking part of the frame. The handle can be chosen complete with a lock or separately, all at the discretion of the owner.

decoration

To decorate the resulting gate, various forged products can be welded to the outside. Such products in various hardware stores and supermarkets are available in large assortment. You can choose what you like and make any pattern or composition with your own hands.

Final stage

When the new gate is in place, all the parts are screwed on, the decorative forging pattern is welded on, it is necessary to clean all metal surfaces and welds from traces of rust, and open it all with a rust converter. After the converter is taken with a white film, it must be wiped off with a rag, and all metal parts should be primed. When the primer dries, apply two coats of paint on top.

That's all, our gate is ready!

The above method for collecting a gate with your own hands is also suitable for gates. The assembly principle is the same for almost all materials.

Look very attractive, wood and metal. If you decide to make a gate or gate out of wood, then you need to provide tools for processing wood in advance and, at the end, take the necessary measures to protect it from pests and the influence of natural factors.

Despite the diversity building material for fences and fences, when choosing a gate for a summer residence, it is rather two types - a gate made of metal and wood. A gate in a country house or in a private courtyard is not only an entrance to the territory. This is protection against unwanted intrusion and theft of property. But besides all these functions, the gate also serves as a decoration of the site.

This is what classic metal gates of a simple design look like

Metal gates have a number of advantages and positive qualities:
  • Metal is stronger and more durable than wood;
  • The metal gate serves more reliable protection;
  • A variety of options for cost, appearance, purpose and material.

Such gates are made of a single sheet of steel or aluminum. They are solid in appearance, and can carefully hide the courtyard from prying eyes and vandalism. The thickness of the metal can vary from 1 to 5 mm. Such gates are not highly decorative and need regular staining.

Welded metal garden gate
Each of these metals has its pros and cons. Aluminum gates are light in construction, but more prone to accidental damage. In addition, this metal is more expensive in price.

Gate made from steel sheet, is heavier and needs strong foundations. But compared to aluminum, it will cost much less for family budget and has a long service life. Such a gate will not be damaged by a pebble accidentally flying out from under the wheels of the car. It is quite possible to make metal gates with your own hands. This requires a welding machine, grinder and experience with such tools.

How to make a metal gate yourself

Forged gates

And the gates are made by hand from metal by forging. They are aesthetically pleasing and rich in appearance. The price of such gates is high, so for a large number consumers remain an unaffordable luxury.

These gates are most often made to order. Elements self made make each piece exquisite and unique. Forged gates- this is an element of the decor of the cottage, which indicates the status and strong financial position of its owner.

In order for the gate not to look too transparent, they are supplemented with a sheet of metal, corrugated board or polycarbonate. To make such an exhibit with your own hands, you need to have good skills and craftsmanship in forging, so most often they just buy forged fences.

Welded gates

These gates are widely used. They are often installed separately or paired with gates to fence the cottage. They can be solid or openwork, with handmade decoration. As a sheathing, a metal or aluminum sheet or corrugated board can serve. Gates made in this way are distinguished by reliability, strength and durability. They are easy to make with your own hands, if you have the skills to work with metal or follow the instructions.

At the same time, you need to know that if the frame of a welded gate is sheathed with corrugated board, it cannot be attached to the base like ordinary metal. To do this, use special screws.

These gates include metal gates made of welded mesh. But if they are used in dacha fences, then only to separate zones within the site or, for example, to separate the recreation area from the garden or vegetable garden.

Sturdy bases - a guarantee of strength and durability of the gate

Whatever metal gate or wicket is chosen for fencing the cottage, they all need a solid and reliable foundation. After all, the durability and beauty of the fence depends on it. A skewed gate is unlikely to please the owner's eyes.

The metal has enough weight to create a large load on the poles. Even will have significant weight thanks to metal frame. Therefore, metal gates and gates must be installed on strong poles that can withstand the load.

Stone or must be installed on. Depending on the type of fence, it can be tape, continuous along the perimeter of the entire fence, or made in the form of glasses, providing strength to the pillars.

Drawing and diagram for mounting the foundation for a brick pillar

If you plan to install the pillars with your own hands from metal pipe or concrete, you need to know how to do it right. First you need to plan a place for future gates and gates. After that, in the intended place with the help of a drill, a hole is made to the depth of freezing of the soil.

A garden drill is best suited for this job, as the holes should not be much larger than the diameter of the supports, which, in turn, should enter there easily and freely. The bottom of the pit is covered with a pillow of rubble and sand. After that, the pole is installed. With the help of a plumb line, its verticality is checked, after which the free space of the pit is covered with rubble or broken bricks.

An example of an installed brick frame fence on the foundation

Crushed stone should be well compacted and poured with cement-sand mortar, which is made in a ratio of 1: 3. The cement hardens for several days, after which you can safely attach a gate or gate to the pillars.

Metal gates and gates are very popular. They are often installed when fencing a summer house or a private courtyard. Some types of such gates can be made with your own hands, and some are better to buy. But they are all durable, reliable and durable.

With a significant increase in the aesthetics of the perception of the entrance group, the artistic forging of the gate improves the ergonomics of operation, raises the status of the owner of the site. The openwork elements chosen as the material for filling the sashes have a lower windage in comparison with the blank sheets of corrugated board.

Sections of fences, decorated with elements of cold, hot forging, cost three times cheaper than gates and gates. In the first case, the manufacturer specifies the price running meter without taking into account the height of the structure. To buy a gate with forging elements in the photo below, you will have to operate square meters, take into account the complexity, repeatability of the pattern, ornament.

With the maximum filling of the structure with openwork details, the processing of seams becomes more complicated (all elements are fastened by welding), paint the product in hard-to-reach places much more difficult. There are several technologies self-manufacturing openwork gates, gates:

  • cold forging with special equipment;
  • assembly on welded profile pipe frame of ready-made elements of industrial production;
  • hot forging in the presence of a gas welding kit.

Large patterns are cheaper and easier to make on your own. A budget option for a garden gate is a frame made of a square pipe, in which the upper horizontal bar is replaced by an arcuate one.

In any case, it must be taken into account that the abundance of small ones not only increases the artistic value of the wings, but also increases the weight of the structure. You have to either put more powerful expensive loops or increase their number on each side. In the case of sliding gates, a more powerful drive will be required, and energy consumption will increase.

Self-assembly of gates from ready-made elements of artistic forging

The most convenient technology for manufacturing gates, gates from ready-made elements of the following type:

  • preparation - the home master will need a flat concrete surface, which is usually used as the floor of the garage, utility room, parking;

  • drawing a sketch - one or both wings (if there is sufficient free space) are drawn on the concrete surface in full size;
  • frame assembly - pieces of a profile pipe are joined by welding, the seams are cleaned with an angle grinder (“grinder”);

  • measuring the length of blanks for each curly element - a piece of stranded copper / aluminum wire is bent along the contour of the applied pattern, straightened, the necessary margin is added to it (0.5 - 0.3 m);
  • manufacturing of elements special devices by the method of cold, hot forging, the necessary details are bent, the necessary details are twisted; when using ready-made ruffles, rings, ellipses, this stage is skipped;
  • filling the sash space - in accordance with the sketch, large, small elements are placed inside the welded frame, welding them to the contour profile, joining each other;

  • processing - after cleaning the seams, removing the influx of metal, the structure is primed, painted in the desired color.

The hinges are installed when hanging the sashes, which allows taking into account the existing landscape, compensating for possible defects in the verticality of the pillars, the horizontality of the road surface.

Gates made of profiled sheet with forging elements are budget option entrance groups site. After sheathing the frame with a profiled sheet, the structure will receive the necessary strength, forged elements, in addition to decorating the gate, are additional stiffeners. This allows you to reduce the construction budget through the use of rolled products of a smaller section. However, in massive large-format structures, a bar that is too thin should not be used. This will reduce the aesthetics of the perception of the design. Experts recommend using a rod minimum diameter 14 mm or section 14 x 14 mm (circle, square, respectively).

Wrought iron sliding gates are much more structurally complicated - instead of two leaves with a rational aspect ratio, one long section is used here. Therefore, for normal operation of the structure, greater rigidity is required, a more massive profile is used.

Gates and gates with forging elements in the photo have restrictions on the architecture of the dwelling, the exteriors of the facades. Metal gates have 70 - 50% transparency, therefore they are more appropriate for facades lined with brick, clinker, siding, panels. For wooden log cabins, it is better to choose a wattle fence, a palisade, a classic picket fence.

Cold forging with your own hands

Beautiful forged gates can be made entirely on your own or you can bend some of the large elements, fill the spaces between them with ready-made ruffles, half rings, arcs, twisted rods. However, at the same time, the home master needs to know some nuances:

  • when changing the geometry of the bar in a cold way, its strength sharply increases;
  • correcting an incorrect bend is much more difficult than making it again from another workpiece;
  • almost any openwork detail will require an appropriate device (“flashlight”, “snail”, “gnut” and others);
  • manufactured fixtures are unlikely to be needed after the installation of the fence on the site, which causes additional budget costs.

Forged gates in the photo are completely assembled from parts made by the owner of the site using the method cold forging. The purchase of factory elements provides a reduction in time, an increase in quality, and minimal waste in cutting expensive rolled metal.

Despite the listed difficulties, forged fences and gates assembled independently are cheaper than ready-made counterparts. Additionally, decorative fittings will help to increase the aesthetics of the perception of the entrance group. Manufacturers produce hinges with forged overlays, locks, latches made by hot and cold forging. These elements give logical completeness to structures with a slight increase in the budget for the construction of enclosing structures.

Metal bending tools

The industry produces manual mechanical pipe benders, budget models which cost within 1,000 rubles, allow you to bend a bar with a cross section of 16 x 16 mm. The tool after constructing the fence, the gate will come in handy on the farm more than once, unlike other special devices.

If necessary, the simplest pipe bender can be made independently according to the drawings below.

Complex curls of a spiral shape cannot be made on a conventional pipe bender. This will require a "snail" or removable conductors. Longitudinal twisting of the rod to obtain a spiral is carried out in the “twister” or “flashlight” machines. The first costs 10 - 8 thousand rubles, the second is three times more expensive, since it allows you to twist baskets from four bars at the same time.

When buying machines, remember:

  • for a single production of gate elements it is not profitable, both the purchase of this equipment and its independent production;
  • when registering the entire territory of the site (not only the gate, but also the spans of the fence), the profitability must be calculated individually.

If, in addition to the site in the holiday village, you also need to fence garden plot, farmstead in a holiday village, the cost of one or two machines is guaranteed to pay off. Moreover, they will remain the property of the home master, they will be able to generate income in the manufacture of forged elements for neighbors.

Popular forged elements for fences, gates

The elegant forged gate with a gate in the photo is assembled from parts that are freely available on the construction markets of the regions of the Russian Federation. The following are the most in demand by designers:

  • plasticine - rods without edges, imitating hand molding from soft material with a non-repeating surface relief;
  • vine - a modification of plasticine that imitates the trunk of a climbing plant of the same name;
  • vine shoot - a detail of a complex configuration with a spiral winding, weaves of a rod;
  • baroque - medium format elements of 8 - 4 curls, decorated with peaks, tassels, bells, and other elements of hot forging;
  • monogram - professionals call these small-format details "currency" for their external similarity with the dollar symbol;

  • grapes - three-dimensional structures imitating clusters with leaves;
  • twisted tube - imitation of a braided braid;
  • basket decorative spiral inserts from several twisted bars of small section;
  • pillars - a twisted blank of a square bar;
  • ball - unlike cast products, the surface has a deliberately uneven shape.

Forged gates and gates photo, sketches of which are created professional designers, always outperform handmade designs. Specialists have regular practice, specialized education, they know the dimensions of finished elements artistic forging presented in retail sale.

Forged gates in the picture often do not give a complete picture of the exterior of the entrance group. Therefore, designers visualize the design in a graphical editor, place them in 3D programs on simulated reliefs in scale. The user gets the opportunity to assess the aesthetics of perception of the architectural ensemble in conjunction with the location on the site of the main dwelling, outbuildings, small architectural forms. Changes made in time to the appearance of the gate eliminate subsequent alterations, provide high-quality integration into the landscape design of the site, taking into account the development of the cottage village.

The local administration may set specific requirements for the style of fencing on a single street. Restrictions often refer to the height of poles, fencing sections, the level of light transmission, the transparency of spans. These recommendations must be taken into account at the design stage; if the requirements are not met, the reduction appearance gates, gates in accordance with the specified standards may be indicated to the owner forcibly.

Hot forging with your own hands

It will not be possible to professionally create forged elements by hot forging with a home master due to the lack of appropriate equipment. However, to adequately decorate the gate, fence sections, the gate is quite within the power of each owner in the presence of gas welding equipment.

A budget option for heating a bar is a household gas-burner, effective for rolled metal with a cross section of up to 14 mm. From improvised materials on the site, you can make a hearth with air supply from a household vacuum cleaner. In any case, for hot forging, you will need an anvil, which is usually used as an inverted piece of rail (the lower platform is wider, more convenient for working with a hammer).

Do-it-yourself forged gates are made from several hours to a month, depending on the complexity of the project. For example, after designing, purchasing industrially manufactured elements, welding work take no more than two hours for each sash. Then it remains to clean the seams, degrease, prime, paint the metal in a convenient color.

If you choose to manufacture all the elements on your own for forged gates, the price will decrease, but you will have to additionally assemble several devices for cold forging, design a forge, or rent a gas cutter for hot metal forging. Time costs will increase many times, but home master will be able to decorate the entire fence in the same style by mounting forged parts in the spans of the fence around the entire perimeter, which is much more profitable than buying such a number of finished products.

Forged gates and wickets by default have a high-quality design, testify to the wealth, artistic taste of the owner.

Examples of sketches of wrought iron gates and wickets

The designer makes sketches of wrought iron gates using a few standard rules, knowledge of which will help the home master:

  • a rational combination of the budget, original design - for forged gates and gates, the photos of which are posted on this page, the price is not the same, you should not overpay for exclusivity to the detriment of practicality, ergonomics of products;

  • structural reliability - the best option for the frame of the gate, the gate is a pipe 40 x 20 mm, decor from a bar 10 x 10 mm, vertical posts from a pipe 15 x 15 mm;
  • installation budget - should not exceed 25% of the cost of the structure itself, for massive doors overloaded with decorative elements, a reinforced foundation, pillars, hinges will be required;
  • opening type - arched, broken upper part of the leaves is convenient only in swing structures, for sliding gates a standard geometric shape (rectangle) is used;

  • transparency - presentable facades are usually put on display, the doors are filled with a large pattern, partially diluted with small elements, if necessary, maximum confidentiality of the site is used for gates made of corrugated board with forging elements, as in the top photo;
  • symmetry - large-format elements made by hot forging most often have a unique design, therefore they are arranged asymmetrically, a small pattern is evenly distributed over both wings.

There are options for translucent gates, when the middle part is taken from the inside with cellular polycarbonate. While maintaining light transmission, parts are partially masked landscape design, outbuildings.

The individuality of the openwork is partially lost against the background of corrugated board, therefore, the upper gate gate is additionally decorated with forged elements. Wavy jumpers, complemented by peaks and rings, are excellent for these purposes. In this case, the sheets are cut along the wave or it rises above the horizontal edge of the gate.

Wrought iron gate colors

At the last stage of the installation of the entrance groups, it is necessary to protect the forged elements, the load-bearing frame, and the hinges from corrosion. For this, various paint and varnish compositions can be used:

  • blacksmith's paint - does not require surface preparation, is used for aging effects, simulating any metals, black graphite modification is used before patination;
  • hammer enamel is a high-quality imitation of chasing, adding expressiveness to openwork details.
  • Poller is a domestic budget product that requires preliminary priming;
  • Sentapol or Polisan - Turkish paints Septa, Polymetal, respectively, average price, spray gun application, more than 100 colors in stock;
  • Tambour - Israeli enamel, applied to an unprepared surface, is completely identical to previous compositions in terms of color solutions, quality;
  • Hammerite is an English high-quality hammer enamel that has no competitors, is expensive, has a high resource, and is excellent for subsequent patination.

With individual design, the manufacturer takes into account the operating conditions, the wishes of the customer, increasing the usability of structures. If necessary, a stylized portrait of the owner of the estate, his initials and even a family coat of arms can be placed in the central part of the wings.

Many people make the gate separate from the gate. You can make a metal gate with your own hands so that it will decorate any building. When performing this process with your own hands, you can bring to life all your most daring ideas and unexpected decisions. Forged elements will help to give solidity to the product and decorate it. And thanks electric drive no longer need to go outside.

Before you start working on the production of this metal product with your own hands, you need to choose the place where the gate will be installed. You should also take measurements and arrange all this on paper in the form of a diagram.

Materials for the production of gates

  • metal blanks are selected with a high carbon content, since it is he who is the least susceptible to corrosion and, accordingly, will last much longer;
  • sheet of metal (thickness not less than 1.5 mm);
  • pipe or profile for posts (diameter not less than 100 mm);
  • profile pipe or corner (section not less than 25 mm);
  • special liquid or gasoline, which will be necessary for anti-corrosion treatment;
  • dye;
  • mixture for priming the surface of the metal profile;
  • electric drive or lock.

Wickets production tools

In order to, be sure to prepare all the tools that will be needed when working:

  • kapron thread - will be needed for marking;
  • welding (power 220 W);
  • hand drill or sledgehammer for driving posts;
  • a screwdriver with which metal is attached;
  • grinder - needed for stripping and cutting metal;
  • scissors for metal;
  • shovel.

How is the installation of the gate

Making a gate with your own hands at home is a fairly simple matter. Plus, it will save you money. After the materials and tools are purchased and prepared, the direct manufacturing process begins.

Columns on the sides. Do-it-yourself gate from a metal profile is fixed to posts that are mounted in the ground no less than 1 m. First of all, marking is done and the installation site is marked. Then the grinder cuts off the length of the pillar blank with the addition of 1 meter. Next comes the surface treatment. For this purpose, corrosion traces are removed from the metal profile using an anti-corrosion liquid and a grinder. After the pole dries, a plaque forms on it. white color which is removed with a rag.

By means of a hand drill, a hole is drilled in the ground, which can simply be dug, in places where markings are made. The diameter of the hole should be 10 centimeters larger than the diameter of the pipe. After that, a liquid solution is prepared. Grade 300 cement is mixed with sand (1:3). The mass should be homogeneous, it is necessary to bring it to a liquid state, gradually adding water. Installation of pillars is carried out in prepared holes, which are covered with rubble. You can also use other stones from the site. The rubble is eventually compacted.

Brick pillars. The gate can be fixed on brick pillars. For this it should hardware lined with bricks. It will be both beautiful and reliable. The building will look better. The solution is prepared in the same way as above, but it should not be liquid. The laying of the first row begins with a whole brick, and the second row is laid with 3/4 bricks, for a more rigid bond. After the solution dries, the rows are lined. On top of the pillars, metal or decorative caps are optionally installed. This will allow water to drain away from the product when it rains.

Frame. Do-it-yourself metal gate consists of a corner or a profile. The choice of frame material depends on the desire of the owner. In general, this is not a fundamental issue, because the installation is carried out the same way for everyone. This work requires special care.

In order not to violate the configuration, you need to carefully measure the dimensions. For competent do-it-yourself work, you need a good place to place the structure. The channel is laid along the perimeter. Its size should be 15-20 centimeters smaller than the product. It should ideally maintain the plane with a level. Adjustment is done by means of gaskets placed under the channel. In accordance with the indicated size, the corner / profile is cut off. Burrs are removed by a grinder. The blanks are laid out at the workplace and fixed. Then the joints are welded by welding. The bottom and top or side racks are also connected by welding - this way the rigidity of the structure is achieved. Only spot welding is used, the seams of which are cleaned by a grinder with a cleaning wheel. The final stage is the treatment with gasoline or anti-corrosion liquid.

Attachment to poles. Do-it-yourself fastening of the gate to the posts should be done only with the help of powerful fasteners. It is best to use a curtain with a built-in bearing.

fasteners sheet metal. This is the final touch of installing the gate with your own hands. It is necessary to carry out the following actions:

  • cut a sheet from a metal profile of the desired size;
  • remove burrs on cuts;
  • fix the sheet on the frame of the product;
  • treat the metal surface with an anti-corrosion liquid;
  • paint and hang on loops.

After being carried out installation work with your own hands, you need to install a lock or connect an electric drive. This is already done at the request of the owner.
