Creating a full-fledged interior is not only the choice of suitable materials and furniture, not only the layout of the placement of elements relative to each other, but also more subtle work, which is realized in the manifestation of the creative potential of the owner of the premises. In order to make not just a pleasant and functional home, you need to bring something original to your apartment, which you probably won’t find in any other house. This is most easily implemented at the level of wall decoration.

To date, there are many ways to finish the walls, but each of them seems familiar and mundane. Of course, you can sheathe the surface of the wall with clapboard or PVC panels, you can stick wallpaper or photo wallpaper, you can apply paint of any color, but this is not enough to make the room unique.

Modern designers offer a lot of simple ways to decorate walls, each of which is easy to achieve, extremely economical, and, most importantly, original. In addition, each of these options can be taken not literally, but taken as a scheme, a simplified algorithm, on the basis of which a new solution is created.

To create an original room design, it is not necessary to purchase expensive materials. You can arm yourself with things that have already served their purpose, for example, old tulle.

The technology of such wall decoration is extremely simple and requires only accuracy and patience from the owners of the premises.

  1. Delete old paint, apply a vinyl-based finishing paste to hide all defects and irregularities.
  2. We prepare the surface of the wall, paint in the selected color.
  3. We fasten tulle.

  4. We apply textured plaster on top.

  5. We remove the tulle while the plaster has not yet had time to dry.

  6. We are waiting for the complete drying of the picture.

  7. We tint the image with pearlescent paint.

The result is a very curious wall design that can easily become the envy of friends.

Interior designers insist that virtually any thing, with proper use, can become a room decoration. You can arm yourself with hangers with metal clips and place your favorite images printed on thick cardboard or your own photos on them.

Usually, a whole wall is allocated for these purposes, and sometimes several walls, since in single copies the concept looks inferior.

It is important that the paper with pictures is as thick as possible. Otherwise, the images will curl into a tube, wrinkle, lose their shape and give the impression of extremely unreliable jewelry.

Before placing the photo hangers on the wall, the surface must be prepared. It is best to choose a single theme and color solution pictures, this will allow you to find the right shade of paint for the wall. This option is suitable for a slightly frivolous interior, but not for classic options.

A non-standard solution is decorating the surface of the walls with the help of silhouette drawings. There is an opinion that the most stylish solution is a combination of a snow-white background and a black image. At the same time, the methods of applying a picture can be very different - from ordinary brushes and stencils to ready-made stickers that are sold in hardware stores.

To date, a large number of designers are working in this direction, which provides a variety of options. The teenage room, which by the way is becoming the most popular place for experiments with silhouette drawings, can be decorated with spectacular images of motorcycles and racing cars. The room for a young fashionista is decorated using sophisticated silhouettes dressed in elegant dresses.

Wall flocking

Flock is a special coating, which consists of rather large acrylic particles that have a variety of shapes: from a circle and stars to petals. This is a kind of warm, rough material, which is presented in an endless variety of colors.

Among the advantages should be noted resistance to mechanical stress, fluctuations in temperature, humidity, as well as the ability to hide all kinds of wall defects.

The most affordable option today is a two-component flock. It is very easy to apply on the wall.

Step 1. Prepare the wall. Before applying the flock, make sure that the surface is absolutely dry, clean, and non-porous, that is, it will not absorb liquid.

Step 2. We take masking tape and use it to protect the surface of the ceiling and floor.

Step 3. We arm ourselves with a roller with stiff bristles.

Step 4. We dip the roller into the container where the base is located, draw it along the grid and begin to cover the wall.

Step 5. We make the second layer of the base, which ensures the uniformity of the coating.

Step 6. Manually carefully stir the varnish.

Step 7. We use a roller with a pile of medium length, draw it along the grid and begin to roll it along the surface of the wall. This should be done in different directions, which will avoid joints of movements and evenly distribute decorative elements.

Step 8. Remove the accumulation of elements with a damp sponge.

Step 9. For hard-to-reach places, use a special flute brush.

Step 10. We are waiting for the walls to dry.

In such a simple way, you can get an unusual and fashionable room.

Another modern way of wall decoration involves the use of glass. Glass fiber or fiberglass wallpaper- This is a specific decorative coating, which is made from natural raw materials.

It is believed that this is an ideal option for owners of premises with uneven walls, since the texture of the material allows you to mask any errors and defects.

There are two main types of glass fiber:

  • smooth or "cobweb";
  • embossed.

For the final finishing of the surface of the walls, the second option is usually used, since the embossed wallpaper has a higher density and is less susceptible to deformation. They are more difficult to break or damage.

The texture of fiberglass wallpaper depends on the method of manufacture. Among the most common options for geometric patterns, it should be noted: herringbones, rhombuses, etc. This is subject to the manufacture of the material on a conventional machine (when using jacquard machines, the images are much more difficult).

Glass fiber is glued to the walls in the same way as classic wallpaper.

  1. We prepare the wall: we clean it, smooth out bumps and other defects with a primer.
  2. We are waiting for the surface to dry completely.
  3. We apply glue to the canvas.
  4. We put glue on the wall.
  5. Glue the canvas to the wall. And so around the perimeter.

Subsequently, cullet can be painted, thereby strikingly transforming the room.

Wall painting with a textured roller

In cases where the usual painting of the walls seems like a boring solution, you can modify this option and present it in a new light. For this, not an ordinary, but a textured roller is used as the main tool, due to which interesting patterns are created on the surface.

In its design, it resembles a standard roller, but all kinds of images are applied to the moving part of the tool, which are transferred to the surface of the wall.

On the lower part there is an additional device - a foam roller, the main purpose of which is to absorb excess paint. With it, it is easy to avoid stains, stains and smudges on the wall.

This device allows you to apply drawings not only on the wall, but even on the fabric. In addition, application rollers are used as an alternative.

Sgraffito is a kind of decorative plaster, the peculiarity of which is that it is a multilayer coating with a scratched image.

In order to prepare the plaster used for this technique, you will need:

  • quartz sand;
  • cement;
  • crumb of marble (or granite);
  • ocher or colored cement (to give you the color you need).

To date, two main methods of applying prepared plaster are common.

1. Solution sampling method

Its key feature is that in the process of decorating walls for graphite, you will need a stencil.

Step 1. We take an awl or a sewing needle.

Step 2. We make holes in a sheet of cardboard.

Step 3 Wet the surface of the wall with water.

Step 4. We apply soil to the wall, cut it and wait for a while.

Step 5 We moisten the soil and apply layers of plaster.

Step 6. We smooth and compact all layers (it is better if there are at least five of them).

Step 7 We are waiting for about four hours.

Step 8 We put a stencil on the wall, tap it with a gauze swab and chalk.

Step 9. We take a knife, a scalpel, cutters and, without waiting for the plaster to dry completely, we begin to cut out drawings on a multilayer coating.

Step 10. Sweep the surface with a brush.

2. Pattern printing method

Its uniqueness lies in the imaging technology.

Stage 1. We make a stencil for each individual element of the picture.

Stage 2. Align upper layer plasters.

Stage 3. We apply a stencil.

Stage 4. We take a brush and use the end method to apply a solution of a certain color.

Stage 5. We are waiting for the incomplete drying of the layer.

Stage 6. We stuff the next element.

Stage 7. Remove excess plaster.

Step 8. We correct the unpainted parts of the image using a thin brush.

Stage 9. We are waiting for complete drying.

As we have already seen, there are a large number of different ways to make your home cozy and unique. Any of the selected options will help create an interior that will become the envy of guests. The main thing is to find suitable materials and follow the correct finishing technology.

Paste the walls with wallpaper or paint in a single color - finishing solutions that have already become traditional. But what if these options seem boring and outdated? We offer an impressive way of decorating walls that have not yet had time to get bored.

1. From the ceiling to the wall

Intricate stucco is rarely able to fit into a modern interior. But ceiling rosettes, fixed on the walls and painted in their color, look very relevant. A wall with such a finish becomes a real highlight of the interior.

2. In eco style

Wall decoration with cork is not yet very common. Most likely, this is due to the widespread opinion that cork is an impractical material. But that's not the case at all. Modern cork panels are resistant to negative external factors, such as moisture, mechanical damage.

3. Fresh press

Paper on the walls in the form of wallpaper is a common solution, so the idea of decorating with newspapers will not be shocking. But keep in mind that newsprint is thinner, so after drying, we recommend covering the wall with a protective varnish.

4. Some brick

A wall completely lined with bricks is found in modern interiors quite often and has already managed to get a little bored. We offer an alternative solution - lay out only part of the wall with bricks. This finish is harmoniously combined with snow-white plaster, creating interesting game contrasts.

5. Relive vacation memories

River or sea pebbles are a reliable and durable material for wall decoration, which is easy to work with. With the help of small pebbles, you can lay out both the whole wall and its separate section, for example, the area of the kitchen apron.

6. Cheap and cheerful

If the decoration of the walls with natural wood will be a serious blow to family budget, we recommend that you look at other options. For example, finishing the walls with OSB boards. But be careful: to make the interior look creative, you will have to carefully consider all its details. Otherwise, there is a great risk of overstepping the boundaries of good taste.

7. Soft eco-leather walls

Eco-leather wall panels look truly luxurious. But in order for the interior not to look too pretentious, we recommend paying attention to non-standard colors. Eco-leather panels in laconic interiors will look modern.

8. Stretch ... walls

The practice of finishing with stretch walls is not yet very common. They are a canvas attached to a frame. The advantages of such a finish are high installation speed, the ability to apply any image in decent quality.

9. Brutal decoration with large stones

Large stones in wall decoration are rare, although they look more impressive than small ones. In order for such a finish to really decorate the interior, we recommend laying out the entire wall with them, leaving free space between adjacent stones.

10. Exquisite luster of glass

Glass panels can have a variety of colors and textures. Therefore, it is not difficult to choose a model that harmoniously fits into the interior. It is not uncommon for glass panels to be mounted on top of a wall with a different finish, such as brick or stone. This allows you to create an impressive 3D effect in the interior.

11. Soft inner light

This type of finish is difficult to implement from the technical side. But the result is really worth the effort. Light sources are attached to the wall, for example, LED Strip Light. Then, at a short distance from them - wall panels.

12. Paint + 3D panels

In the vast majority of cases, 3D gypsum panels are sold in white and are used for finishing in their original form. But when painted, they look much more interesting. In addition, the process of their harmonious entry into the color scheme of a certain interior is facilitated.

13. It's the other way around: frames… in the image

A wall pasted over with bright wallpaper can be filled with the same frames from floor to ceiling. So many different paintings will appear on the wall, while united by a common plot.

14. Democratic plastic

Plastic wall panels usually do not please with aesthetic characteristics, and are perceived as a material for temporary wall decoration. Therefore, we recommend spending a little more time than planned and finding high-quality plastic panels. Then the chances of creating a dynamic and stylish interior will increase significantly.

15. Drywall constructions are not always bad.

Complex drywall wall structures are a finish that most designers frown upon. But there are examples when drywall in the interior looks stylish. To stay within the bounds of good taste, we recommend that you consult with professionals when choosing a design form.

16. A novelty in the world of finishing materials - flexible stone

Such material is a stone chips or a polymer layer fixed on a flexible base. Bending stone allows you to recreate the texture of natural even on uneven surfaces of complex shape. At the same time, its cost is quite democratic.

When a general idea of unusual methods of wall decoration is obtained, it may be desirable to return to familiar and proven solutions. In this case, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with how

A few spectacular accents on the walls after repair can transform any interior, making it spectacular and stylish. It is recommended to decorate the walls if the apartment does not feel any design concept or stylistic binding. Not everyone can use the services of famous designers. But many ideas are quite accessible to implementation, if you decide on original decor walls with your own hands. Acquainted with different methods transformation of vertical surfaces, do not rush to do everything at once. Each room has its own way of decorating, harmoniously fitting into the functionality of the room and emphasizing its style.

Arguing over how to decorate a wall with your own hands, you have to carefully analyze everything:

  • room dimensions;
  • free surface area;
  • their artistic abilities;
  • the scale of the transformation of a room or apartment.

If there is no stylistic reference to the interior, and the overhaul has already been completed or is not yet planned, it is important to highlight the preference in which style to decorate the apartment. A wall panel or mosaic can highlight the choice of style, while a few accessories and a pattern of curtains will complete the atmosphere.

The drawing of dishes on the wall in the kitchen will look harmonious in the interior

The process of painting on the wall

The chosen theme of an image or a bright accent can be a typical expression of a certain style:

  • retro (vintage, shabby chic, grunge);
  • minimalism (constructivism, functionalism);
  • country (Provence; chalet; ranch, tower);
  • urban styles (loft, techno, futurism);
  • modern style (fusion, contemporary, hi-tech);
  • ethno (African, Asian - Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Arabic);
  • classical and historical styles (antique, palace, renaissance, baroque).

When it's time to choose your own style, don't chase fashion or adopt someone else's lifestyle. Imagine this or that design sample in your apartment or house - will it be comfortable to live in such an environment? Sometimes the original design of the walls with their own hands causes some rejection, rejection. On the contrary, some kind of competently embodied and close to the heart idea will fill the personal space with a special aura. But it happens that you just get tired of everything, and you want to dilute the trivial atmosphere with an unusual decor on the wall, as in the photo.

You can draw fruits on the wall in the kitchen

On the wall you can make a collage of many pictures

You can make a collage of pictures on the wall

The designer by vocation considers any free wall as a clean canvas for the upcoming transformation of the interior. But do-it-yourself home decor in an apartment can solve other problems:

  • get rid of inept children's "arts";
  • hide wall defects (spots, smudges, cracks, pits, bumps);
  • tidy up the most problematic wall so as not to do general repairs;
  • bring some zest to the interior design;
  • visually expand the space.

Do-it-yourself wall decor in an apartment is associated with creative self-realization, this is an exciting process. But it is desirable to master the secrets of craftsmanship or choose an affordable method of original wall decoration. Do not overdo it when choosing decoration methods. It is better to do one thing, but impressive, than many small tricks that scatter attention.

Such wallpapers in the interior look practical.

Choose simple ways to decorate walls

Unusual decor with familiar objects.

A creative look is when familiar objects are seen in a new way. If you don’t have your own interesting ideas, you can use other people’s samples and illustrations. Wall decor options are ordinary boxes without a bottom and boxes made of dense materials. They can be repainted and hung on the wall as shelves for small items, dishes or spices in the kitchen.

One mirror in each room is good. N, but if there are several of them, as an addition to the main one, this is already a whole “mirror wall”. By the way, on the modern market there are a lot of facing materials with a high degree of reflection. But don't overdo it. If the room has a mirrored floor, a glossy ceiling and tiles with a mirror effect, this is already too much. On the south side, an excess of reflected light will blind the eyes; in the north room or hallway without windows, this option is more appropriate. But it's better to choose mirror decor walls in the interior in some original design.

Tree branches can be painted on the wall

Photo wallpaper will perfectly complement the design of the bedroom

A panel with mosaic tiles will be a great decor addition.

Photo framed for a long memory

Wall decoration with photographs - the most affordable way decorate an empty wall, known to our grandmothers. Chaotically hung "selfies" will not become an exquisite decoration of the interior. But if you select photographs by subject, build a plot from them or trace the dynamics of the development of life in a certain time period, such an exposition will be interesting.

It’s good if they are all of decent quality, black and white or color photos, framed in the same frame, hung in a certain order or form a clear geometry. Decorating the walls in an apartment with an artistic photo does not exclude a large drawing in the center of the composition or a talented collage. This method is also good because the photos can be replaced or new ones added over time, as well as shifting the frames or hanging them in an unusual way.

Vinyl stickers

The theme of the wall decor in the house can be emphasized with ready-made images. Vinyl stickers are sold ready-made, they are convenient, therefore they are becoming more and more popular. Some express a specific theme, such as a fisherman with a cat and fish - a great way to decorate a kitchen wall to hide grease stains.

Most often, stickers are used for do-it-yourself wall design in a nursery. But if the image matches the functionality, they will be appropriate in any room. They are easy to apply - reverse side there is an adhesive base, and this is a great alternative to appliqués and stencil drawings. When you get tired of the sticker, you can easily remove it.

Such drawings on the walls will perfectly complement the interior of the room.

Stencil drawings on the walls

Stencils are used to get the same images or wall decoration in the absence of an artistic gift. Stencil - plates of hard material with a carved silhouette pattern. You can buy it and do it yourself from a piece of plastic, cardboard, plywood.

Any image is transferred to it and cut along the contours with any sharp object.

The finished stencil is applied for drawing to the prepared wall, which is pre-leveled with putty and painted. You can use the inner contours of the stencil and clipping - the image that fell out. Drawing is applied in different ways:

  • aerosol from a can;
  • brush with paints;
  • marker;
  • roller with textured nozzles and ordinary foam rubber.

By removing the stencil, you get a graphically clear wall decoration. If the colors are unstable, the surface of the pattern can be fixed with a colorless matte varnish. The marker lines can be duplicated with colored tape or electrical tape, as in the photo - a northern bear and a penguin in a children's room.

The overall impression of do-it-yourself wall decor largely depends on the choice of colors. There are textured, mother-of-pearl, iridescent, light-accumulative and fluorescent (luminous) paints. They are preferred by those who are afraid of total darkness. You can draw "guiding" stars and planets along the corridor on the upper part of the wall.

The picture on the wall will look great in the bedroom

You can hang pictures on the wall and hang small lamps.

For advanced level artists, you can take on a responsible task - drawing a 3D picture on the wall. It can be like a fresco, a landscape, a visual illusion that expands the space. You can even redraw the Colosseum on wet plaster. But even a 3D voluminous flower above the sofa will amaze guests.

If you don’t know how to draw, replace the drawing with photo wallpapers with a similar effect.

Paper applications

Paper is the most available material for decorating walls. Decorations can be seasonal or temporary, such as for a holiday.

Today, many interesting techniques for working with paper are gaining popularity.

Each technique has its own secrets, it is worth mastering at least one of them in a master class in order to use it to decorate an apartment with your own hands.

The simplest way is a three-dimensional application in the form of autumn leaves, flying birds or butterflies, folded in half and attached to the wall. These butterflies can be placed on a decorated wall in a variety of ways:

  • lay out the composition on the wall from a certain point (as if they fly out of an outlet or a floor vase);
  • place on a branch;
  • fasten on hoops;
  • place on the wall movably (on hairpins, pins or needles);
  • hang on an invisible fishing line (“flutter” from the slightest draft);

Paper wall decor with voluminous flowers is no less interesting, especially for a birthday or March 8 holiday. It is worthwhile to carefully choose the color and texture of the paper (with the addition of another material), the size and technique of making the decor.

The design of the bedroom is designed in the same style

One wall in the bedroom can be done differently, stick wallpaper on it or hang pictures

A large picture on the wall in the bedroom will perfectly complement the interior.

Original ways to decorate walls without the ability to paint:

  • placement of a handmade collection in frames or on a shelf;
  • wall decor with children's drawings;
  • exposition musical instruments on the wall;
  • decoration with handmade embroidery;

  • imitation of stucco molding from plastic elements or polystyrene;
  • hand-painted plates or rare specimens from abroad;
  • cells with coins, gems, dried insects;
  • a collection of old alarm clocks or interior clocks as an apartment decor.

You can choose any available decorating method, but you should not sculpt everything on the walls - it will not look stylish and aesthetically pleasing.

Unusual fabric wall decor is a favorite way of transforming the interior of many eminent designers.

Working with textured materials is a pleasure, most often used:

  • leather and suede;
  • velvet and velor;
  • organza and muslin;
  • satin and silk;
  • jacquard;
  • tapestry;
  • chenille and other furniture fabrics with a beautiful pattern.

Covers are made from fabric wall panels in patchwork technique.

In the same way (folding the flap into a general image), fabric applications and paintings are made.

For decorative panels, duplicating the material of curtains or upholstery of upholstered furniture, select expensive interior fabrics.

Do-it-yourself drapery and upholstery with fabric - new fashion trend. Upholstered walls in the form of a carriage pick with diamonds behind a low-back sofa or along backless seats look luxurious.

Black and white graphics, silhouette drawings and "strokes of a pen" - for masters working with black and white images.

You can paint in the traditional way or apply an image in an unusual way using interior paints. Frescoes are painted on wet plaster. You can master this technique in a master class.

50 interesting photo wall decor ideas:

What types of wall decoration are the most popular today, which are the most practical, and which are fashionable and spectacular?
Let's try to answer these questions.

All options for wall decoration, an overview of materials, advantages and disadvantages.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is the most familiar, publicly available way of decorating walls. For a long time, wallpapers in Europe were exclusively made of fabric or leather. Hence the name - they were not glued, but nailed.

Wallpaper today - a diverse range of products for all occasions and wallets. Here are paper, and textile, vinyl and non-woven, acrylic and fiberglass, wood, cork, metal ... Wallpaper in the form of huge photographs and paintings, as well as with 3D images. And each variety has its undeniable advantages.

Paper wallpapers are affordable and organic, and an impressive range of colors, textures and patterns opens their way to any room. In addition, everyone can cope with sticking paper wallpaper, which allows you to save on repairs.
Most of all, paper coating is suitable for the walls of the hallway, living room and bedroom.
A variety is glued in the corridor, which, in which case, can be painted, and the living room is decorated, as a rule, with multi-layered, embossed, primed types of wallpaper. Inexpensive but fun paper wallpaper they are also used in the nursery - if an artist wakes up in a child, it will not be difficult to quickly change such a finish.

The disadvantages of paper coatings include their fragility, fragility: only the best, multi-layered samples can serve without visible loss of quality for 5 years or more.
And also paper does not tolerate moisture, is easily flammable and fades fairly quickly.

Wall murals became popular in the late 80s of the last century, and still do not leave their homes. This is because their range is truly limitless, the price is not sky-high, and you can stick such wallpapers yourself. In addition, modern photo wallpapers are highly resistant to fading, repel dust, have an additional protective film and can be made to order - for example, with portraits of household members.
Actually, this is the pluses of paper photo wallpapers.

The disadvantages include the fact that such wallpapers require absolutely flat surfaces and, like any paper, are not very durable. The average service life is 3-7 years.

Textile wallpapers are linen, felt, silk, velor; on a non-woven, paper or synthetic basis.

The advantages of fabric upholstery are its naturalness, good thermal insulation, greater resistance to fading compared to paper wallpaper, decent appearance and a wealth of textures. And also a solid - an average of 10 years - service life.

The most environmentally friendly option, linen upholstery on paper basis, you can safely advise in the nursery. Silk wallpaper, as if by magic, will turn an ordinary living room into a chic salon. And felt or velor wallpaper will make the bedroom warmer, more secluded.
If more insulation is required, the walls are covered textile wallpaper on a porous synthetic basis: their thickness can reach 5 millimeters. This variety is the least susceptible to deformation. The maximum period of use of such a coating is up to 10 years.

Negative qualities of fabric wallpaper: the need for regular cleaning, instability to mechanical stress, relatively high price. In addition, fabric wallpapers require perfectly flat planes, as well as knowledge of the nuances of applying to walls.

Jute wallpapers belong to an extensive family of decorative materials with a natural vegetable coating. They are also called wallpaper-mats. They can be based on both paper and interlining.

Jute wallpapers are valued for 100% naturalness, breathability, resistance to ultraviolet radiation and mechanical stress. And the characteristic, nodular structure elevates these wallpapers from the category of ordinary coatings to the rank of stylish design chips.
Most often, jute is used when they want to emphasize the character of the interior.
These wallpapers are primarily used for living rooms and bedrooms; however, the safety, hypoallergenicity of jute makes it a welcome "guest" in children's rooms.

The disadvantages of jute coatings include their ability to absorb odors (which is why you rarely see jute in kitchens), the need for regular cleaning and a considerable price.
The average service life is 10-15 years.

Vinyl wallpapers are on the crest of popularity today. Still, because this type of finish is able to imitate stone, wood, plaster or, say, suede.
It should be noted that vinyl wallpapers are also divided into a considerable number of subspecies: structural, with a relief and a layer of foamed vinyl, with hot stamping and silkscreen effect.

TO strengths such coatings include a high degree of sound insulation, the ability to mask small irregularities, roughness on the walls, resistance to fading and moisture. Due to the fact that water and steam are not afraid of vinyl wallpaper, they are relevant in kitchens and bathrooms.

But also vinyl wallpaper there are disadvantages: airtightness, difficulties in self-gluing, relatively high cost, and also a not very pleasant smell that cheap samples can exude.
The service life is on average 20 years.

On the basis of non-woven fabric, there can be paper wallpaper, and fabric, and vinyl.
These are rolls of cellulose fibers bonded with polymers. Their advantages are environmental friendliness, breathability, a wide palette of patterns, and also the ability to repaint these wallpapers, smooth out small bumps and flaws on the walls with their help. The service life of non-woven wallpaper is about 10 years.

And now for the shortcomings. Firstly, not everyone can afford high-quality non-woven wallpaper. Secondly, dust accumulates in the “folds” of their embossing. They are also quite easy to damage, for example, when rearranging furniture. Finally, the non-woven coating must be glued to exemplary clean, plain walls. Otherwise, spots and stains may be visible.

It is believed that this is an analogue of vinyl coatings, which are based on paper, and foamed vinyl replaces polymer coating.
Advantages - hypoallergenicity, strength, practicality, moisture resistance, which allows you to use the wallpaper in the living room, and in the kitchen, and even in the bathroom. And also resistance to mechanical stress and ease of handling. No wonder acrylic wallpapers are preferred by families with naughty children or pets.

Disadvantages: such wallpapers are inferior to vinyl "brothers" in thickness and, therefore, in durability. Yes, and their color scheme is not so diverse.
The term of application is 10-12 years.

This, yet non-trivial type of finish is gaining more and more points - thin, glass yarn rolled into rolls. It consists of dolomite, sand and similar additives, therefore, naturalness, harmlessness is one of the "trump cards" of glass.

There are other advantages: high strength, resistance to chemical and mechanical stress, fire and moisture, the possibility of coloring.
Fiberglass is so presentable that it often adorns the walls of pretentious bars and restaurants.
Nothing prevents the use of glass wallpaper in any room, but they look especially impressive in classic as well as modern living rooms.

The disadvantages include the complexity of installation and, especially, dismantling, the requirement for an absolutely flat surface of the walls. In addition, glass wallpapers, due to complex production technology, are an expensive pleasure.
But the service life of the glass coating is up to 30 years.

The raw material for their production is the bark of the Mediterranean oak with its unique resinous substances. The advantages of the material are obvious: environmental friendliness, bactericidal properties, creation of a special, healing microclimate.
The cork coating also has enviable insulating properties. If someone in the apartment, for example, plays music, then the neighbors are unlikely to hear, because the cork will absorb decibels.
It is also important that, unlike wooden coatings, cork does not ignite and does not support combustion.
After all, the velvety feel of cork bark is pleasant to the touch, which is why it is used in rooms for the smallest children.

Among the shortcomings of cork wallpaper, a relatively narrow range of colors should be mentioned. It cannot be said that their patterns are uniform, but their natural color is in the range natural wood- from light yellow to dark brown. And it is also worth considering that they will cost a lot, although the high cost in this case is offset by a rather long service life.
Service life - up to 30 years.

It may seem that we are talking about a novelty, but this material was invented back in 1877.
These are rolls that are formed from wood flour mixed with wax, rosin, linseed oil.
The surface of the linkrust is embossed, patterned, which gives the finish an expensive, respectable look.

The best qualities of linkrust are environmental safety, commendable thermal stability, durability, resistance to deformation, a wide selection of colors and shades, the possibility of painting, unpretentious care.
The shelf life of linkrust wallpaper is practically unlimited, which can be confirmed by the perfectly preserved interiors of many old houses.

Linkrust looks great in,. However, it also has some flaws - for example, instability at low temperatures, a complex installation process, and high cost.

Metallic wallpaper

Metallic / metallized wallpapers can be embossed, blackened, etched, painted, patinated ... Due to the decorative variety, this type of wall covering is a signature technique of many well-known designers.

Wallpaper covered with a layer of foil, namely they are called metal, are resistant to moisture, wear, good thermal insulation. Well, if they are of a mirror type, then they also have the ability to visually “push apart” the space.

Metallic wallpaper of a noble shade is adored by fans of expensive, pretentious styles such as, and. Designers especially recommend these wallpapers for decorating halls, lobbies and halls.

The disadvantages of such a coating are airtightness and low resistance to mechanical stress. Metallic wallpaper also requires perfectly smooth walls ... and a lot of investment.
Their shelf life is on average 10 years.

Liquid wallpaper, they are also flock, silk plaster. Despite the natural base, after hardening on the walls, such a coating is not much like wallpaper.
The advantages of liquid wallpaper are practicality, damaged fragments are easy to restore, environmental friendliness, the ability to pass air, and sufficient strength.

Cons - relatively high cost, as well as not such a wide selection of patterns and colors, as is the case with ordinary paper ones.

Suitable liquid wallpaper in the hallway, hall, nursery, bedroom and living room. The average service life is 6-8 years.

Decorative plaster

This general term refers to a layer of building and decorative mixture applied to the surface of the walls. It levels the walls, insulates them, insulates them, and, of course, is one of the most ancient methods of ennobling the home inside and out.

Plaster mixtures can be divided according to two criteria - according to the composition of the mixture and artistic qualities.

Mineral plaster is the most economical type of plaster. This is due to the basis of the mixture - cement, which is "seasoned" with chemical additives that give increased moisture resistance. To this we can add environmental safety, vapor permeability, resistance to fungi and mold, temperature extremes, as well as fire safety.

Among the shortcomings are not a very diverse color palette and the complexity of application.
But the average period of operation of the mineral coating does not exceed 15 years.

In addition to the mineral, there is also: silicate, based on liquid glass; silicone, based on silicone resins; polymer - with acrylic resin in the composition.
The longest service life of silicone and mineral plasters.

Textured (structural) decorative plaster- a way of decorating walls, which can be called an unfading classic. Due to the fact that various additives (pebbles, fibers, marble chips or ground bricks) are included in the plaster mixture, such a finish can look like rock, valuable wood, cork bark, sand patterns, cracked clay, dug velvet.

The textured types of plaster include the famous “fur coat”, as well as bark beetle plaster - a method of finishing halls and hallways that has been popular for many decades.

Textured plaster is a great solution for those who want to get a unique interior. It will definitely provide picturesqueness, sophistication. And at the same time also strength, durability, fire resistance.
Plaster will help hide small defects on the walls, and its price does not bite at all.
Textured plaster will not disgrace any of the palace, will be a good find for the hall, living room, dining room.

Judging by the reviews, there is only one drawback to this design - it is difficult to remove it when a new repair is needed.
The time during which textured plaster will not lose its attractiveness is 15-20 years.

It is hard to believe that this type of coating is over 500 years old. "Venetian" gives the impression of a noble stone - marble, granite, onyx, jasper, opal, malachite, amber. Such a sophisticated type of decoration literally asks for the walls of spacious living rooms, where there are fireplaces, canvases in magnificent frames hang and the spirit of the Renaissance hovers.
Venetian plaster is unique: there are no two identical copies of it in the world!
It is she who can be seen inside the palaces of the Venetian doges, the villas of Italian aristocrats.
"Venetian" is not only charmingly beautiful, but also safe, moisture resistant, durable and able to please the eye not for years, but for centuries!
But the price is right for her.

Dye

The market offers a truly huge number of various interior paints. Water-based paints are considered the safest and most non-toxic, while solvent-based paints, when dry, form a denser, shiny layer. You can choose moisture-resistant paint, which is suitable for the kitchen, and vapor-permeable, which will be in place, for example, in the hallway.

As for the decorative properties, the paints are glossy, matte and even embossed. The former are suitable for impeccably flat surfaces, while the embossed one is able to hide roughness and minor errors on the walls.

  • Water based paints have the "softest" chemical composition. Their other advantages include an attractive price and a huge selection of colors and shades.
    The disadvantages are instability to abrasion and high humidity.
  • Acrylic paints more tolerant of vapors, but drops or jets can destroy them.
    The most durable among water-soluble paints are latex paints. They are even allowed to be washed, but they are not too tolerant of ultraviolet radiation, and they are more expensive.
    Walls covered with acrylic-based paint are not afraid of sunlight, are non-toxic and do not fade for 15-20 years.
    The disadvantage of such paints is a long drying time.
  • Alkyd paints They are inexpensive, easy to use, have a wide range of colors and dry within an hour of application. True, alkyd-based dyes are short-lived - a year later, the walls can become stained and lose their original brightness. They also do not like sunlight, and most importantly, they are quite toxic. In connection with the last point, these paints are not recommended in bedrooms and nurseries.
  • silicate paints created on the basis of liquid glass with the addition of pigments and fillers. Most often they are used on verandas, balconies, in basements - where exposure to moisture and temperature changes is required.
  • silicone paints vapor-permeable, have dirt-repellent qualities, are not afraid of water and create a sufficiently strong coating layer.
    It is not surprising that their service life is equal to a quarter of a century.
    Silicone paints can decorate the walls of the bathroom, use them in the hallway, in the kitchen. However, it should be remembered that the bumps and depressions on the walls covered with this relatively new type of paint and varnish products will become more noticeable.
  • Oil paints with drying oil in the base today are rarely used for interior decoration. The reason is the harmful components that are used in their production. In addition, oil formulations dry for a long time, do not allow surfaces to "breathe", and can bubble and crack.
    The merits of oil paints include, perhaps, their affordability. Because of this oil paints can be useful in utility, utility rooms - they paint pipes, window frames, radiators.
  • Enamel often call for help when they start repairs. Among the advantages of enamel dyes are the budget price, aesthetics (it forms a smooth, glossy film), strength exceeding the strength of oil and alkyd paints.
    Enamel is called a universal coating, because it easily falls on any surface, be it brick, concrete or wood, and dries within a day. The paint resists moisture well, so enamel sometimes covers the walls of the bathroom.
    But we must not forget that enamels are fire hazardous, which is why they should not be used near the stove.
    The durability of enamel paint depends on the type and ranges from 10 to 15 years.

Decorative brick / stone. Today, few people will be surprised by this way of decorating living rooms and bedrooms, although recently brickwork further hallways were not "let". It's all about fashion. It turned out that brick as a way of decor is organically combined with many current styles - from classic to minimalism and.

Rigid tiles imitating brick are based on gypsum, cement, clay and other compounds. So, white gypsum tiles are the most affordable. By weight, it is quite light, for its masonry it is necessary to purchase a special glue.

The main disadvantage of this material is its high moisture absorption - this should be taken into account when planning repairs and should not be used in rooms with high humidity.
The average service life is at least 15 years.

In addition to brick, walls can be covered with decorative artificial stone that imitates sandstone, shell rock, slate, tuff, basalt, and more. Despite the variety of textures, decorative stone is produced mainly from gypsum, sand, clay, cement and appropriate dyes.

The advantages of this finishing option are diversity, which allows the wildest design fantasies to roam. Fake diamond it is quite easy to mount, it is hygienic, has a low weight, which can also be attributed to the advantages.

Decorative stone is used most often to highlight corners, openings, arches, framing a fireplace, in other words, to create stylish accents.
The service life with careful attitude is up to 30 years.

This finishing material can be called eternal: trends change, and bathrooms and kitchens are still decorated with tiles. Ceramic tiles have earned confidence due to such qualities as environmental safety, moisture resistance, hygiene and unpretentiousness in everyday life, immunity to fungi and bacteria, abrasion and burnout. And the variety of formats, colors and textures, replicating the appearance of precious stones, minerals, crocodile skin and much more, gives the tile a pass to any room.
A high-quality ceramic facing material can serve for 50 years or more. The only thing that is required is to restore the seams between the plates.

For ceramic granite tiles are characterized by strength, greater than that of tiles, environmental friendliness, low degree of water absorption, resistance to chips, as well as to low temperatures. The last point makes porcelain stoneware a leader in finishing when it comes to balconies, terraces, loggias and verandas.

As for the range of colors and textures of porcelain tiles, it will satisfy any tastes and whims. Porcelain tile will last more than one generation.
Among the disadvantages of such a coating is an impressive weight and relatively high cost.

Finishing with PVC panels will cost 30-40% cheaper than with ceramic tiles.
In addition to low cost, PVC panels are practical, easy to use, and resistant to temperature extremes.
Installation of panels is also quite simple.
Contrary to rumors, PVC does not emit toxic substances and is considered a safe finishing agent. For the appearance of the panels, and they come in different colors, you can not worry about 8-10 years.

Among the disadvantages of PVC finishes, it is called its lower strength, toxicity during combustion, and, oddly enough, low cost compared to ceramics: for many, this is an indicator lack of prestige.

MDF panels - modern modification particle boards known as chipboard. In the production of MDF, however, harmful phenol is not used, which makes this product environmentally friendly.
The advantages of MDF include a wide range of products: manufacturers offer multi-colored, ornamented panels, smooth and with a relief surface. They are easy enough to mount on the walls, they are durable, with a high coefficient of thermal conductivity, insensitive to fungus and mold, and since they are covered with a laminated film, they are also resistant to moisture.
The service life of MDF panels is 15 years.

3D panels

Most of these three-dimensional, embossed products are made from gypsum, although they can be made from MDF, bamboo, reed, plastic, glass, aluminum… backlight.
What unites all these variations?
In general, 3D panels are hypoallergenic and non-toxic, they fasten quickly, and have good insulating qualities.

A serious bonus is the ability to manufacture custom-made panels.
A wide selection of samples allows you to fit this finish into any style: 3D bamboo panels will suit simple, emphasized eco-friendly interiors, 3D panels with a metallic sheen and a futuristic pattern will emphasize and, plain 3D panels will add a twist to, and panels with a patina effect will harmoniously complement the art - deco and .

Among the disadvantages of this coating, consumers call the ability of panels to accumulate dust on a relief surface. And psychologists add: an excessive amount of convex patterns will not only overload the interior, but can provoke irritability and poor health. Based on this, it is better to use 3D panels in fragments - on one wall, for example.

Drywall

Drywall is a worthy alternative to plaster. It is used to create suspended, sub-ceiling systems, to decorate ventilation, pipes, utilities, as well as to cover walls.

Most often, drywall decorate rooms with normal humidity - hallways, living rooms, bedrooms. But there is also a special, moisture-resistant drywall, the service life of which can last up to 10 years.

Drywall is a good sound insulator, it absorbs excess moisture and creates an ideal flat surface. Installation of drywall products is not difficult, while they can be cut, create various shapes for decoration from them.

The disadvantage of drywall is that it “eats up” the volume of the room, and after installation on the walls, it requires puttying the seams and finishing. It is also depressing that hanging a TV or a shelf on a wall covered with drywall is problematic.

Mosaic is a favorite in bathrooms and kitchens. It is produced from a wide range of materials: for example, from natural stone, which gives the product special strength and durability, or from ceramics, glass, wood, metal.
The source of raw materials, of course, greatly affects the type of mosaic, its lifespan, as well as what styles and rooms it suits best.
The most common mosaic is ceramic-based. It is used in bathrooms, toilets, as well as in kitchens - for example, in the area of the work surface.

The merits of the mosaic coating include, firstly, the possibility of using it in niches, on ledges, and uneven surfaces. Secondly, a variety of structures and colors make it possible to create plots from mosaic tiles: walls are monochrome and colorful, patterned and in the form of paintings. Add to this the fact that the mosaic perfectly adheres to any surface - concrete, plaster, wood.
But each finishing agent has flaws, and the mosaic is the price. However, it is justified, because we are talking about an exclusive product that is made from natural materials and has been in service for 15 years or more.
