It's hard to imagine summer suburban area without violent blooming garden. Tall velvet roses and peonies peek through the windows, small daisies and pansies scattered in the thickets of grass, asters and hyacinths create unusual patterns in the flower beds. In order for bright flower arrangements to be framed, borders for flower beds are used - low fences made of various materials. Let's figure out how to make plastic, wood and brick fences.

Even before you break the flower garden, you should think about how to make beautiful border for a flower bed. It should not only serve as the border of a flower structure, but also correspond general style the surrounding area.

The border mosaic looks elegant and noble, which has one attractive quality - it is unique. With the help of glass and tile fragments, you can create a unique, author's drawing or ornament, and you can be sure that you will not find another such frame for a flower garden. Instead of fragments, you can use ordinary or painted pebbles.

The flower bed itself and the base of the bench are decorated with multi-colored mosaics. For work, we used pieces of ceramic facing tiles - a few pieces always remain after repair

Creating a Mediterranean or English style in your garden, you can opt for fences made of natural stone: granite, shell rock, limestone, sandstone. They are equally good for decorating free-standing plants, and for decorating large landscape flower beds. Strong and durable, stone structures will last for decades, and besides, they are easy to make on your own using cement mortar for construction.

A stylish look is easy to create by choosing a stone for the border to match the color of the surrounding buildings. Instead of natural material you can use decorative tiles

Those who are seriously involved in gardening know this type of flower garden fencing as an excavated border. This is a kind of groove dug between the flower bed and the lawn (or path). The dimensions of the dividing trench depend on the density of the soil and the root system of the plants.

The dug out border needs regular care: mulching with peat or crushed wood chips, leveling, cutting off the overgrown sod roots with special scissors

It looks interesting and is great for areas arranged in a rustic style, a wicker border. For its manufacture, ordinary willow twigs are used, fixed on posts driven into the ground. Weaving is a traditional old-fashioned method that our ancestors used to create village fences - wattle.

Naturally looks like a living curb of low ornamental plants. In addition to herbs and flowers, undersized shrubs are successfully used. The height of the fence can be any, but usually it does not exceed 40 cm, otherwise the fence will close the flower garden.

Low-growing green perennials can be replaced with any bright flowers with small inflorescences, thus creating beautiful compositions in an unusual setting.

Option #1 - wooden stake fence

For many summer residents, their suburban area is a real wooden kingdom: both the house, and outbuildings, and the bathhouse, and the gazebo, and even the benches in the garden are made of wood. This is not surprising, because wood is a natural material that blends harmoniously with green spaces, flowers, stone paths and ponds. It is great for creating any country decorations, including for making a decorative border for a flower bed.

Used to decorate flower beds wooden elements various sizes and shapes: small stumps, pegs from branches, old boards, remnants of bars

One of the most simple options, accessible even to an amateur, is a low fence made of pegs of various lengths. We take light wooden posts as a basis small size, whose color can be changed to darker or brighter if necessary. The steps for creating a fence from pegs are extremely simple.

Preparation of building material

The blanks can be either wooden blocks of the same section, or thick straight branches that must be prepared in advance. We remove the bark from the branches and cut them into elements of various lengths. The dimensions of the products depend on the shape of the fence. In our case, these are alternating high and low bars. Let one part of the blanks be 0.30 m long, the second - 0.35 m.

We measure the length of the border and calculate the approximate number of products. Each detail is carefully treated with an antiseptic or a special protective varnish - so the border will last much longer.

It is not difficult to find blanks for a wooden fence: if there are no fallen trees on the site, you can use the materials left after the construction of the fence

Digging a trench around the perimeter of the flower bed

In order not to puzzle ourselves by installing each peg separately, we tear out a groove about 0.15 m deep. To maintain accuracy, we first outline the outline of the fence - we draw a line on the ground with a sharp object.

When digging a trench, you do not need to make it too wide: in a narrow groove, the pegs will be fixed more rigidly and firmly

Setting the pegs

We place the elements of the fence one by one in a trench and immediately bury them, carefully tamping the soil. We alternate - first a short peg, then a long one. If the elements differ in thickness, then we try to alternate different blanks so that the fence as a whole looks more uniform.

Alternate installation of pegs makes it possible to carefully fix each workpiece from all sides. No special tool is required to compact the soil, just trample it with your feet

Having installed all the pegs and secured them, you can slightly change the height of the parts using a hammer. Pegs do not have to be different in height - many people like even fences from the same elements

Final decoration of the border

If light wood does not fit well with the design of surrounding objects, it must be coated with paint of the desired shade: any tone of brown, yellow or gray. An excellent option is a special protective impregnation, which simultaneously preserves the wood structure.

Option # 2 - building a brick curb

If country cottage built of brick, you should not even think about arranging a border for a flower bed with your own hands. You can quickly and easily make a brick edging of flower beds that looks quite natural, especially against the background of a fence or paths made of a similar material.

A brick border is ideal for matching walls or sidewalks, as well as any trees, shrubs or flowers.

Contour marking

To mark the perimeter of the flower bed, any material at hand is suitable: a thick cord, a hose for watering, a rope stretched over pegs (if the shape of the object is strictly geometric - for example, rectangular or hexagonal).

trench preparation

Directly along the marked contour, we dig a shallow trench, the depth of which is approximately 0.15 m. The width of the groove should be slightly larger than the width of the brick - about 0.25 m.

An ideally straight curb line can be replaced with a freer one - curved or zigzag, but taking into account a different brick laying

Filling the trench with concrete

Pour the solution prepared in advance into the trench, without adding 1-2 cm to the top. We leave the concrete to harden for several days.

For the installation of a concrete base, you can purchase a dry cement mixture in the shop. Before laying bricks, the surface must be cleaned of debris.

In our case, the bricks are placed on a concrete base in the direction along the border of the flower bed, but they can also be laid across or diagonally.

The height of the border for the flower bed can be adjusted in two stages: while digging a trench and directly in the process of laying bricks

We leave a small distance (about 0.1 m) to the lawn if a lawn mower is used on the site. To fix the curb, the remaining 1-2 cm and the gaps between the bricks are filled with concrete.

The advantage of a brick border is that a strong and durable fence can be created at any stage of the flower bed arrangement: before planting plants or during their flowering

We fill the surrounding soil with earth - a neat brick border is ready.

Option #3 - two types of plastic fencing

To create a plastic border for a flower bed, you can use two ways: buy finished products in a store or create an original fence from plastic bottles.

Plastic borders are made of durable modified plastic, which serves well for many years, does not fade and does not change shape in the sun.

If you need to quickly arrange a flower garden - the purchase option is optimal, in addition, such fences have a large assortment and are quite inexpensive.

Plastic fences are modular, that is, they are assembled from many identical elements. At the end of the season, they can be easily dismantled and stored in the back room.

But you can use your imagination and lay out a fence of empty plastic bottles, which usually sell lemonade, beer or kvass. This is easy to do: along the perimeter of the flower beds, a trench is dug with a depth of about ½ of the containers used. The bottles are placed in the prepared groove with their bottoms up and buried, tamping the soil around the edges. For a change, the above-ground part of the fence can be painted in cheerful shades, combined with the flowers growing in the flower bed.

Fences made of plastic bottles, tightly fixed, are not inferior in functionality to wooden borders: they perfectly keep the shape of the flower bed and do not allow the soil to crumble

Thus, flower beds can be protected in any way, the main thing is that the material for the border is combined with the surrounding objects.

Borders for garden paths allow you to make the site attractive and neat. Beautifully designed paths not only give a harmonious look summer cottage, but also have practical benefits:

Border for a garden path from granite cobblestones

  • strengthen the garden path on both sides and extend its service life;
  • smooth out the errors of the landscape project;
  • do not allow sand and gravel under the base of the path to enter the site;
  • curbs are indispensable in the arrangement of gravel paths;
  • prevent the spread of vegetation;
  • protect the path from erosion during rain;
  • emphasize the individuality and beauty of the site.

Varieties of borders

The border for the garden path can be made from almost any suitable material. The most common are garden borders of the following types:

Design option for a wooden curb for a garden path

For the arrangement of the territory in the country, concrete and plastic borders for garden paths are often used. The first option attracts with the opportunity to realize the most unusual design ideas due to its excellent flexibility. The second is highly reliable and durable.

plastic border

Very diverse: they are available in rolls and blocks.

The process of installing a plastic border

More often plastic version used where you want to make the border selected, but the border itself is almost invisible.

Varieties of garden borders made of plastic

Pros and cons of plastic borders

Among positive traits plastic borders can be distinguished:

Among the shortcomings of plastic products, one can note the synthetic origin of the material and insufficient mechanical strength compared to concrete, brick or stone.

Installation of a plastic border

After the necessary curbs for garden paths are purchased, installing them with your own hands will not be difficult.
Installation includes the following steps:

To work on the installation of a plastic curb, special tools and knowledge are not required. Aesthetics, simplicity and speed of installation are the main criteria for the attractiveness of plastic borders for garden paths in the country.

Concrete curbs for garden paths

For framing concrete or unpaved walkways, paving stones or paving slabs ideal option are concrete curbs.
Among the main advantages of concrete curbs are:

  • high wear resistance and durability - service life up to 50 years;
  • resistance to weather factors and frost resistance;
  • undemanding to maintenance and care;
  • the ability to make concrete curbs with your own hands;
  • smooth shape and neat appearance;
  • easy installation;
  • affordable cost.

Forms for concrete curbs

You can buy concrete curb blocks ready-made, or you can cast them yourself using special molds.

An example of a classic concrete curb for a garden path

Forms for borders are divided depending on the material, and can be plastic, steel or wood. The most popular are matrices made of polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene.. With their help, you can cast products with a clear pattern. They are unpretentious and easy to use and withstand hundreds of pouring cycles.

You can also make your own hands from improvised materials:

In most cases, curbs on garden paths perform a triune task: they protect the coating from destruction, prevent the components of the path from falling into the beds and lawn, and make both the path and the landscape of the site as a whole neat and organized. Depending on the type of track, soil composition and design requirements, the solution may be different.

Curbs for tracks - what are they?

Exists a large number of options and specific designs of borders for garden paths. When deciding what a border can be made of, it makes sense to get acquainted with the range of possible.

Some borders merge with the track, others protrude above the canvas

Concrete fences are the most popular, due to a number of positive factors:

  • reliability, strength and durability;
  • relatively low price;
  • availability of a wide range of factory products;
  • the ability to make borders with your own hands;
  • simple installation;
  • acceptable appearance.

Pedestrian barriers made of natural stone are no less reliable than concrete ones, they are remarkably consistent with the landscape, but they have a considerable price. Stone is used to frame paths made of brick, stone, paving slabs and crushed stone. It can be laid at the level of the coating or above it.

As follows from the photo, a brick curb can be installed on the border of the path in a different way. A clinker brick fence will last a long time. In the simplest case, the brick can simply be laid along the edges of the finished coating. When installing a path made of bricks or paving slabs, it is placed on the sand along with the laying of the main canvas.

To organize a major brick border, they dig a groove under it, lay crushed stone and sand, and then lay a brick on the cement mortar. The structure can be strengthened by placing reinforcement under the brick.

Wood borders are well suited to country-style landscapes, suitable for wooden and unmade paths. You can use timber, board and log. The option of wood fencing can be budgetary. At the same time, the service life of a wooden curb is limited even with serious processing.

The metal corner and profile are successfully used in the arrangement of paths. It performs the functions of a curb, remaining almost invisible. Craftsmen managed to adapt even trimmings metal pipes for fencing the path.

Very easy to use plastic borders, border tape and a special plastic profile for tracks. The listed elements cannot perceive a large mechanical load, however, they perfectly perform decorative functions.

Fences for garden paths made of plastic have a number of positive properties:

  • not afraid of frost and moisture;
  • have a long service life;
  • there is a wide range of plastic fences;
  • low cost;
  • are not afraid of mechanical movements of the soil.

As a "green" fence, small shrubs are successfully used: cotoneaster, boxwood and others. The roots of plants fasten the edge of the path, and the plants themselves serve as a wonderful decor.

As a curb for the path in the country, you can use a variety of improvised materials. Bottles, both glass and plastic, can serve as an unusual decor and fence for a long time. Old slate will perfectly fulfill the role of formwork and curb for concrete walkway. A low wattle fence will enliven the woodchip path and prevent the latter from flying apart.

We make a border of concrete with our own hands

It is probably easier to purchase a ready-made curb stone. If you want to save or make non-standard option fences for concrete paths can be made by hand.

For the manufacture of curb stone, you can use purchased plastic or metal molds that can withstand a large number of cycles. With your own hands, you can make a wooden formwork for casting curbs. The material can be plywood, OSB, boards and timber. Wherein internal surfaces structures must be smooth.

It is very convenient to use a steel channel as a form.

To do this, both profile shelves are cut with a grinder opposite each other and a metal plate is inserted into the resulting gaps.
A wonderful form for the curb is obtained from the channel

Two such jumpers form the ends of the mold. Making a border using a mold is carried out in the following order:

  1. The inner surfaces of the mold are lubricated with used car oil so that the casting does not stick to the walls.
  2. If the wheels of the car pass along the curb, a reinforcement frame is inserted inside the formwork. It is set on pebbles and should not touch the walls of the matrix.
  3. A mortar is prepared, which consists of three parts of sand, two parts of crushed stone and one part of cement. If necessary, a plasticizer and dye are added to the concrete. The consistency of the solution should correspond to thick sour cream.
  4. The composition is poured into a mold. To remove air bubbles, the solution is pierced, and the formwork is tapped with a hammer. The workpiece is covered and kept for two days.
  5. The product is carefully removed from the mold. The border will be ready for use in 20 days, after the cement has completely cured.

We fill the fence for the path right on the ground

You can make a curb for the path with your own hands by pouring concrete directly into the formwork installed on the ground. For this kind of work, you will need the following tool:

This option is much simpler, but the quality of the fence may not be the best. Installation of a curb with formwork is carried out according to the following scheme:

A homemade border, cast on the spot on the spot, can be decorated in pieces ceramic tiles pressed into the concrete surface. The sides protruding above the surface of the fence track can be decorated by attaching corrugated material to the formwork walls: rubber, plastic or metal plates.

Installing curbs on walkways

Concrete products have a significant weight, so it is difficult to work with a curb longer than 0.6 m. To install a concrete curb on your own, you may need the following tool.

Installation of the finished fence is carried out according to the following plan:

  1. The location of the curbs is marked with twine and pegs. The distance between the inner planes of the fences on both sides of the track corresponds to the width of the cover web.
  2. A trench is dug in accordance with the dimensions of the curb and the height of the track surface. It is necessary to take into account the height of the layers of sand and mortar, in total about 8 cm. As a result, the depth of the groove should be about 20 cm. The bottom of the trench is leveled and rammed.
  3. Sand is poured into the trench with a layer of 5-7 cm, which is leveled, moistened and rammed.
  4. A cord is exposed for correct installation fences in height and direction. It is convenient to place it from the side of the smoothed corner of the curb.
  5. A mortar is prepared, which consists of three parts of sand and one part of cement. According to the consistency, it should not blur when laying.
  6. The solution is spread evenly on the bottom of the trench.
  7. The concrete curb is carefully lowered onto the mortar and leveled along the cord, tapping with a rubber mallet.
  8. The groove next to the installed curb can be carefully sprinkled with soil without touching the concrete fence. The operation will provide comfortable conditions for setting cement.
  9. The border is not touched until the solution is fully ripe, that is, 10-20 days.
  10. As soon as the fence is ready, the soil next to the curb is leveled and rammed.

So we armed you with everything necessary tools knowledge for self-assembly border in the garden and in the country. I hope this video will answer any questions you might have.

When arranging flower beds and paths, decorating a yard or adjacent territory, it is often necessary to install dividers. Most often, curbs are used for this (curbs are also called). Moreover, the installation of the curb is not so complicated that it is necessary to invite a team. It is quite possible to manage with your own hands. At least with helpers.

Purpose and types of curb cameos

Borders are used to separate areas from different coating and/or different loads. They can separate paths from lawns, flower beds, a garden or vegetable garden, serve as a border between a pedestrian and a roadway, etc.

They perform several functions at once:

  • serve for visual design of tracks;
  • redistribute the load;
  • protect the paths from washing out and destruction.

If you want the tracks to last a long time, you need to install a border around the edge. It holds all materials, preventing them from collapsing or changing shape.

Borders or curb stones are available in various sizes, they are made from different materials using different technologies. The most common type is concrete curbs, but there are also plastic, vibropressed ones.

Types of concrete curbs and curbs

Concrete curbstones are the most common, they are different sizes. They are divided into two categories:

  • Road stone. Wider and taller, often with reinforcement inside (one or two steel bars with a diameter of 12-14 mm). It is used to separate the carriageway and the pedestrian part.
  • Curb stone (also called a curb, garden or sidewalk curb). Smaller and lighter, without reinforcement. Usually separate walking paths from lawns. Can withstand short-term collisions with a car. With more serious and constant loads, it is undesirable to put them, as they are destroyed.

Other types of curbstones are not used for fencing off the roadway, as they have an insufficient level of strength.

Roads are not always straight - there are curves. It is easy to make sharp turns at an angle - put it at the right angle, and fix the junction with concrete mortar. For smooth turns, there are radius fragments with different rounding radii. They can be used to create a fence for round, oval flower beds.

Dimensions

Curb blocks are usually produced in lengths of 1000 mm, those designed to separate walkways from fertile soil- 850 mm long. There are also elements with a length of 500 and 400 mm. Usually these are curbs for paths made of paving slabs. They are produced not only according to the technology of poured concrete, but also according to the technology of vibrocompression, according to which the paving slabs themselves are made.

The height of the curb stone can be:

  • 300 mm - to separate the sidewalk from the carriageway;
  • 200 mm, 180 and 150 mm - for tracks.

Width 200, 180 mm ( road stone), 150, 100, 80 mm (curb stone).

Installing a curb on sand-cement mix or concrete

On soils prone to heaving, it is necessary to install a curb stone on a bed of sand and gravel, on top of which a layer of concrete is laid, a curb is laid into it. With this installation, the curbs stand for years without problems. The procedure is as follows:

Subject to this technology for installing a curbstone, the likelihood that it will budge during heaving is very low.

How to put on the sand

If the soils are not prone to heaving, you can do without concrete. So you can put only curbs - a curb for footpaths or a fence for a flower bed, a flower garden. With all this, this method of installation does not guarantee that the track will not be destroyed. The installation technology is similar to that described above to the place where the concrete mortar must be laid.

Only crushed stone is laid under the curb and is well rammed. The layer thickness should be at least 15 cm. After the curb stone is inserted in level, the gap between the sides of the stone and the walls of the trench is filled with the same rubble and is well rammed. With this method of installation, it is possible to roll up the fence even if it is stepped on at an unsuccessful angle. But as a temporary option - for several months - this installation method is suitable.

With the onset of spring, we strive to restore order to personal plot or in the country, ennoble the area near your house, plant beautiful flowers, tidy up shrubs and trees. When breaking up a flower bed, gardeners are often faced with the question of what a border for flower beds can be made of. This question is better to think over in advance, before the flowers are planted. When choosing borders for flower beds, you need to decide on the functions for which you need a fence, consider how borders for flower beds will be combined with other elements. garden design, as well as decide on your financial capabilities. In the assortment of hardware stores there are enough options for decorative borders for flower beds, different in cost and materials used.

If you do not have the funds to purchase ready-made fences, or are looking to add personality to your garden plot, you can make borders for flower beds with your own hands and scrap materials.

Purpose of borders for beds and flower beds:

  • emphasize accuracy, harmony, show the unity of the style of your garden plot;
  • limit the contours of a flower bed or lawn, not allowing plants to grow beyond it, preventing the growth of roots outside the flower bed or garden;
  • divide visually garden plot on zones, to give it a beautiful and well-groomed appearance;
  • protect plants from invading cats and dogs;
  • to protect emerging young sprouts from accidental trampling by the hosts themselves or their guests.

Before you figure out which border for flower beds to choose, you need to decide on the purposes for which it will be installed. For example, if the earth in a flower bed is higher than in the surrounding area, a strong fence of brick or stone is needed to keep the earth from scattering and washing away by rains and watering.

To ensure that planted perennials do not grow beyond certain limits, the border should be deepened into the ground at a sufficient distance to limit root growth outside the allocated area. In this case, a brick is used for the curb, or natural stone on a concrete pad, or a monolithic metal fence, which can be purchased ready-made. It must be dug into the ground to the depth indicated in the instructions. So you can fence a flower bed or front garden with raspberries and other creeping plants.

Garden borders for flower beds

They can have different heights, depending on what effect you want to get. For decorative purposes, a plastic fence up to 7 cm high is suitable, the curb for garden paths can be slightly higher, up to 10-15 cm in height.

For fencing flower beds with large plants, bushes, trees, a fence about half a meter high is suitable, and for a mixboder it will be quite enough to lay out a border line of flat stones or paving slabs, visually limiting the territory.

If you have several flower beds, lawns and other areas that require fencing, borders that look the same in color look good, you can combine fences made of the same material, but different in height, higher for the front garden and low for low flower beds.

Important ! The border should not limit the view of the flower bed or lawn, but at the same time perform decorative and protective functions.

If you prefer to solve the problem of fencing flower beds without unnecessary hassle, you can purchase beautiful ready-made fences in specialized stores. It can be a plastic or solid metal border for a flower bed, forged metal gratings or a wooden fence, depending on the possibilities of your budget.

Consider each of the options for the border in more detail.

metal borders

Metal fences are durable, they are usually made to order, so you can choose and order the option you like in the workshop the right sizes. A wrought-iron fence for a flower bed will look good if the design already has similar elements, for example, window bars, gates, and an external fencing of the site. Through the openwork forged lattices, the flower garden will be clearly visible, however, climbing plants can beautifully braid them. The disadvantages include the rather high price and big weight gratings, you may have to resort to the help of craftsmen during installation.

Budget options

plastic border

Plastic borders for beds and flower beds. Plastic will serve you long time, it will not collapse from moisture and seasonal temperature fluctuations, like wooden fences, it is enough just to install it yourself, if necessary, such a fence can be easily removed for the winter, or installed in another place. Thanks to the variety of shapes, colors and sizes, you can choose the fence that best suits your landscape design. There are plastic borders for flower beds that imitate wood, a natural stone, such fences will look as natural and natural as possible.

Varieties of plastic borders:

  • in the form of separate sections with strong pegs along the edges, which are stuck into the ground along the perimeter of the flower bed, they are the easiest to install and also dismantle. From such sections, you can easily make a flower bed of an interesting geometric shape, as well as a multi-level flower garden;
  • in the form of a flexible plastic tape wound into a roll. Such a flexible tape will allow you to enclose a round flower bed or a winding path near the flower garden. In the form of a tape, there can also be sectional borders.

Advice ! To make it easier to install the curb, leave it unfolded in the sun for several hours. It will soften and allow you to give the fence any geometric shape.

Ribbon border

To install a tape border for a flower bed, dig a narrow groove around it. If protection against root growth is required, the depth of the groove should be at the level of the roots. Then cut off plastic tape the desired length, fasten the ends with a stapler, insert it into the groove, fill it with earth and tamp well. From the outside, you can decorate the border with small pebbles, pebbles, peat or other natural materials.

If you have time and desire to get creative, you can think about how to make a border for flower beds with your own hands.

Pipe border

With a little effort, you can independently build a border for a flower bed using available materials, possibly remaining after construction works or repair bricks, boards, even old rusty pipes.

Wooden structures

by the most eco-friendly material traditionally considered a tree. A wooden fence does not overheat in the summer in the sun and will not cause burns in plants when in contact with it, and in winter it will prevent plant roots from freezing. Over time, decomposing in the ground, the tree will supply the plants with nutrients.

If you have carpentry skills, or you have enough boards or planks, try making a wooden fence out of them. To do this, you need to prepare wooden planks of the same thickness and height, leave the upper ends flat or round if desired, attach them to long transverse planks. Along the perimeter of the flower beds, pegs are hammered and a rope is pulled, after 1.5-2 meters from each other, posts are buried, on which the prepared sections will be attached. For greater strength and durability of the fence, the posts can be concreted. Then sections assembled from planks are nailed to the base columns. It is desirable to impregnate the finished fence with a special solution to protect against fungus and mold, if desired, after drying, paint or varnish.

The original wattle fence in a rustic style is woven from willow twigs. The rods are cut in early spring in willow along the banks of reservoirs, cleaned of bark, cut to the same length. Along the perimeter of a flower bed or front garden, strong pegs are stuffed into the ground at a short distance from each other, then they are braided with rods according to the principle of weaving a basket. After 3-4 rows, they tap the rods with a hammer to compact them, and continue to braid the pegs to the desired height. As a result, you will get a durable wattle fence that protects your landings for at least several years.

For enclosing the flower beds, the remains of logs, logs, pegs are also used. It is necessary to select the required number of pegs or logs of approximately the same thickness, cut them in height to the desired size, peel them from the bark, it is advisable to treat the wood with a protective solution to protect against fungus. Then they are buried in the ground along the perimeter of the flower bed close to each other, as in the photo.

brick border

A brick border for flower beds will last a long time, it is quite possible to build it yourself, but you will have to work a little. If you are planning a low border, 2-3 rows, and the brick will lie flat, then you can simply lay out the bricks around the perimeter of the flower bed.

For greater reliability brickwork better to do concrete base, and then fasten cement mortar laid out bricks. Special glue can be added to the solution for greater structural strength. In this embodiment, the bricks can also be laid out obliquely, as in the photo.

stone border

A beautiful, reliable and durable border for a flower bed or flower bed will be made of natural stone. Along the perimeter of the flower bed, you need to dig a trench in width not less than the size of the stones, fill it with concrete and press large stones into it. If it is planned to lay several rows of stones on top of each other, they must also be fastened with concrete mortar. The gaps between large stones are filled with smaller stones.

If, according to your plan, one row of large boulders is enough, as in the photo, you can dig them lightly into the ground without using concrete. You will receive an original stone border for a flower bed with a minimum of effort. If desired, you can lay out a path to the flower bed with small pebbles, make a stone mosaic.

plastic bottle border

by the most budget option, allowing at the same time to get rid of garbage, there will be a border for a flower bed made of plastic bottles. Can be used instead of plastic glass bottles, the border will be original, but more fragile, and if the bottle breaks, you can get hurt by splinters.

But if you want, you can build a grandiose structure out of glass. To make a border of plastic bottles, first of all, you need to stock up on the necessary number of bottles themselves, preferably the same size, you can have the same color or different ones, alternating them with each other. Then, so that the plastic does not deform, it is necessary to fill the bottles with earth, or sand, or other bulk material, and tighten the corks. After that, you need to dig the bottles into the ground upside down along the fence line close to each other.

Such a border will last more than one year, and if necessary, you can easily replace a failed bottle or dismantle the entire fence if you want to change the decor of your site.

And if you want to make a decorative border for a flower bed, you will need to try, but the result will be worth it. Your neighbors will probably not have such a fence.
