I will express my share of sadness about the fact that I stumbled upon the site when the repair was almost completed and we had already moved into our new apartment. I think that the timely opening of the site would help to avoid some nervous losses, mistakes, and ... well, 10 percent to make the apartment more interesting in terms of design.

But I express my great, no, HUGE gratitude to all those who share their experience, their photos of the repair - this allows you to maintain the deflated desire to continue the repair and stubbornly go to its end.

I will not be original - I will start with the bathrooms. There are two of them in the apartment, guest and family.

The guest room is located at the entrance to the apartment, this allows you to quickly and without unnecessary dirt wipe your shoes, “run” from a long road, and see guests off lightly.

The original dimensions were 180x40 cm, the walls were moved towards the reduction of the toilet (!), to increase the entrance area - the hallway. It turned out about 140x140cm without tiles, the tiles ate about 5 cm.

The room is square and small, with the layout of the tiles you can’t clear up.

This option, which I saw in the children's toilet of an Italian hotel, impressed me and became a model in my head.

Therefore, I decided that we would also have multi-colored tiles 10x10cm.

But our renovation began in December 2014, and I had to give up many dreams and reconsider the finishing options towards more modest and budget “finds”. Including tiles - the Spanish and Italian versions have become a miracle, a marvelous marvel and a dream inaccessible to imported ones. True, I did interesting discovery: my opinion is always, without even looking at the prices, I chose the most expensive of the shops presented in the windows)))).

For example, I started sculpting a tile layout in Photoshop from… decor! I didn’t know then that decor is the most expensive thing. And for some reason I thought that 770 rubles. is the price for square meter, not for 1 piece. I worked for three days, out of 25 decor options I made a patchwork. I made three options for a different budget, so that my husband approved. And he came and destroyed my price illusion and showed the vainness of three days of work.

Oh, oh, oh, upset of the year! Years, because at that time prices jumped up, and I had to have time to order and buy a tile before the markup very quickly, I rushed about, jittered and frantically sculpted a design from the next tile, counted the required quantity, called the stores for availability (and it melted before our eyes, even on phone calls). Ouuuh!

In the end, I had to simplify as much as possible. Based on Kerama Marazzi tiles. Collection - Nice, colors light gray (almost white), beige and light beige (rather red).

And diluted with decor, very much diluted. Tantra collection, again Kerama Marazzi.

As it turned out, in terms of hardness, this is more likely not a tile, but a porcelain tile, so we still have not drilled holders for toilet paper and a brush. And, because the boiler is not connected, the hole with the pipes is not closed.
Decor in a variation of 20 pieces, all turned in different directions so that you can look at and have fun indoors.

Initial ideas.
1. There was an idea to make a guest bathroom, not just a toilet. With a shower, so that you can wash yourself quickly, if there are guests or if the second bathroom is occupied. The shower was planned in a building design, without dividing the floor with a threshold and steps, because. area is small.
2. They brought a boiler there, 100 liters. Big? No, because when we checked in, hot water it was, it wasn't. And we love to wash, not to smear the dirt. It will come in handy in the summer, so let it hang in a corner.
3. I had to make uneven recesses-cavities in order to drown the boiler, hang the installation and not get a well.
4. The resulting shelves are quite suitable for shampoo-shower gel-washcloths, and you don’t need to hang anything.
5. A full-height mirror is inserted into the door instead of glass. Door size 70x200, mirrors 50x200. Double mirror - twice as convenient! And admire yourself in the hallway, and admire sitting on the pot. Well, even with a small toilet, it saves space and does not disturb the harmony of “hanging everything”, the room looks quite free, not small.
Small finds that may not be finds at all)))
1. The hidden hatch (under the boiler) was sealed with acrylic silicone, and the edges of the tiles were slightly smeared with paint. Then the hatch becomes almost invisible. And provided that we look into the hatch once every few months, sealing with acrylic saves us from cockroaches - guests (a legacy from the builders, brrr, we are fighting).
2. Another find that I came across in the process of caring for a cat. In both toilets there are two rolls of toilet paper - regular and the cheapest. With cheap paper, I wipe dry the toilet lid, shelves, or splashes on the mirror that always appear after washing my hands. Express method of putting the room in order)))
And now about the jambs.
1. The joints of the tiles are not 45 degrees, so what now ... But I defended my refusal from plastic corners!
2. The hygienic shower was placed 10 cm to the left than planned - the builders did not think that I would have a shower curtain here. (I don't think they thought at all when they did the repairs). Now the curtain hides the crane, it is not convenient to use.
3. Our fellow builders still did not heed our convictions to make a visible slope-hole "in the area of ​​​​the drain, so that the water would calmly leave. They did not according to the state standard (1cm slope per 1m). but much less. As usual, convincing us that "it will be good."
As a result of testing, the cat's tray, hiding in the corner farthest from the shower, floated after two minutes. And the cat in it turned into a captain of a short voyage.
Instruction to the builders - redo!
So, do raise half of the floor by 3 cm. And this is a stumbling threshold at the entrance, and this is a foot-step in the middle of the bathroom. They also walled up the warm floor in the first part, it will not warm up even overnight.
We did not come up with other options, more budgetary, time-saving and least dirty (this toilet was made the longest), we did not come up with. Therefore, we have what we have, and slowly we stop crying, moaning and getting used to it.
4,5. Two more disadvantages of this solution - wall hung toilet practically ceased to be suspended, and it is inconvenient to wash the floors. If before that the cat tray was recessed under the hanging toilet, then it no longer fits there, the cat had to be moved to another toilet. The cat, of course, was not upset - there is a warm floor around the clock (heating comb), a cup of food and a rug.

In my absence, the chief inspector came, somehow opened the door and, up to the elbow of his paws, checked the quality of the alteration.

This is the plan I made visual instructions to the tiler. On the 3D design (each wall) I wrote the position of the tile. And then he sat for a long time with glasses and sorted out where which decor was, how it should be rotated and calculated its location on the wall.
I still missed something somewhere.

I diluted the decor with red tiles to make it cheaper and more fun for the eye.

At some point, I made a mistake in miscalculations, and there were not enough tiles. We ordered a brown one (hooray, it was enough to remake the floor).
And then it turned out that there was not enough gray tiles - I had to insert brown stripes under the pencil and under the ceiling. Surprisingly, it looks good, does not compress the room.

Friends, here's the deal. We are thinking about making a second (conditionally guest, on the ground floor) toilet in our house. This is a convenience for ourselves (for example, we watch a movie - we don’t have to run upstairs), and for guests, and it really increases the value of the house during the subsequent sale, so it can be considered as a long-term investment :)
And so they figured out where to organize it.
Well, they didn’t quite come up with it themselves - they saw a similar organization on the diagram of another house :)

On the left is the first floor, and at the very bottom you can see the entrance vestibule, the so-called porch.
To the left (according to the diagram) is another entrance to the house, a convenient double door through which a bicycle can easily roll out. Yes, and we have already equipped a dressing room in this (which is on the left) room, so this vestibule is neither for us in anatomy, nor in the armed forces :)
So we decided to change it.
A mistake was made on the diagram, the "longe" room is not so pushed forward, it Entrance door- at the level of the wall of the house, and the damage just acts as three walls, and between it and the lounge there are (vertically) communications, including water, sewerage.

I already asked our plumber - he sees no difficulty in doing this. In this case drain pipe will go around the perimeter of the toilet.
The outer door, of course, will be dismantled (sorry for the stained-glass window, I really like it, but we seem to have figured out how to use it elsewhere), the opening is bricked up.
With windows on three sides, you also need to do something, because they go straight to the street :))))
And there is also the problem that this room is terribly cold. Siphon so that inner door I have to keep it closed all the time, and, most importantly, I don’t understand how and why. From windows? From the door?

And here I would like to consult with respected accomplices.
There is an idea to dismantle the windows, partially build up the walls with bricks, and put glass blocks on top (about 50-70 cm from the ceiling): there will be natural light, and nothing is visible from the side. Moreover, kmk, it will be possible to build a small fan into the glass blocks, I saw on sale just this size, right on the street. What do you think?
But the question arises - apparently, these walls will have to be insulated somehow? Or just a normal brick will solve the problem?
We’ll put a radiator, but we don’t want to warm the atmosphere :)

Second moment. Since the drain pipe will go along the floor, I would like to close it somehow. And now I'm thinking, why not make a false wall of drywall? And in it - niches with lighting and lockers (although toilet paper Yes detergents keep). Something like this:
