Beautiful means rich, and rich means a lot. What exactly is a lot, it doesn’t matter anymore. There are several reasons for redundancy in our interiors, in my opinion. First, of course, we are still much more Asians than we would like to think. Secondly, after a prosperous period of the late 19th - early 20th century, mass poverty was established in Russia for many years, when only a small number of people could afford to furnish a house with high quality. Another important difference between the Russian interior and the European one is in the individualization of repairs for themselves. You need to understand that for us the phrase “my house is my fortress” is not an abstract expression. In my opinion, Russian interiors lack courage, emotionality and spontaneity - our client often focuses on the interior of a neighbor. The Russian interior industry as a whole lacks trust in the designer: in the West, the designer is invited, but in Russia they are hired. That is, for a Russian client you are a performer, draftsman and estimator, and for a European client you are a friend, accomplice and creator. Even at the first stages, when you start to create, it is difficult for our customers to go through and accept it, they always look back at how the other person solved this problem, and not at what the designer offers them.

Often we encounter the wrong approach even when buying an apartment. So, for example, in a modern residential complex, the client wants classics, and architecture is the first thing we start from, the first thing we prescribe in the TOR. Another example: unfortunately, I meet few people who would like to move some object into a new interior - except, perhaps, a piano. It seems to me right when customers use historical items in a modern interior: sideboards, samovars or a family oak table with balusters. But more often than not, everything should be new and fashionable. Why should we think about fashion in the interior? It prevents you from being more free.

Yes, there is Russian design, but it is not enough. He is very western oriented. It will happen if we stop being inspired only by Western designers, and the customer wants something new and completely independent. Therefore, if we all want the interior in our country to be formed and finally settled, first of all we need to relax, trust a professional and stop looking back at our neighbor.

Despite the fact that the modern world is becoming more and more monotonous and authentic features are increasingly being erased, the value and charm, in my opinion, have exactly the features that distinguish one country from another. Otherwise, it becomes simply boring to travel: everything is the same everywhere, everywhere there is one IKEA. Therefore, I consider it important to develop the theme of modern Russian style in Russian interiors. This is not an ethnic popular style. This is a style, the uniqueness of which is due to the specifics of local life, features Russian history and culture, climate features. Due to the specifics of our country, the Russian interior style is a multicultural, original and a little naive style.

For myself, I have identified several features of the modern Russian style:

Eclectic tastes, which can be described as "a mixture of French and Nizhny Novgorod"

I often speak and write on this topic, and I am always asked why I single out eclecticism as a sign of modern Russian style, because eclecticism is a global trend. This is true. As a reception, it works (and is created) in the same way as in American or European interiors. But it differs in objects that mark the Russian interior style. These objects are connected with our Russian (and not American or French) history. That is, these are the items that give the interiors created in Russia authenticity (sincerity) and originality (authenticity).

Colors and materials specific to the Russian climate

I create interiors in Russia, so I use colors that are typical for the Central Russian nature. The palette of natural colors is very wide, and here it is important to choose the right shade. For example, if you need a blue scale, do not take Caribbean blue, take the shade that you see in your surroundings: sky blue, cornflower blue, forget-me-not color, lake water color. I select finishing materials according to the same principle: so that they correspond in spirit to the local climate (for example, wood, stone, linen, felt).

Items that play on stereotypes about Russian

That is, those who suggest that we have a Russian house in front of us. These stereotypes are widely known: ballet, space, hunting, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, tea and more. Of course, everything related to stereotypes is often introduced into the interior as irony. But this is such a subtle irony, if you do not think about why it is here, you may not notice. These objects do not climb into the eyes, but by the very fact of their presence in the interior they give the viewer grounds for reflection. For example, in one of my interiors there was a large-format photograph of a depressed ballerina. The ballerina was not Russian, the photographer was English, but this photo placed in the dining room, along with an old samovar on the table, spoke for itself.
