Every detail is important in a harmonious interior. This applies not only to furniture and decor, but also to elements such as doors. Without these components, no modern dwelling can exist. The door leaf should be not only functional, but also attractive in order to successfully complement the existing ensemble. Often the owners want to renovate their doors, but do not know how to do it correctly. Today we will talk about how best to paint this element of the home to make it even more attractive.

Advantages

It's no secret that over time, all the details in the interior wear out and gradually lose their original appearance. Higher quality and more reliable materials age slightly more slowly, while inexpensive and fake materials age much earlier. Noticing that the interior or front door to the dwelling has lost its visual appeal, many owners want to return it to its former attractiveness.

A good solution to this issue is the usual painting. Fortunately, modern manufacturers produce coatings that easily fit not only on wooden canvases, but also on metal or plastic surfaces, so the optimal paint can be selected for any material.

However, it is not uncommon for people to turn to such an update. door structure not due to the fact that it is badly worn out and requires restoration, but in order to slightly revive the interior and bring fresh colors into it.

Do not underestimate the role of the door leaf and its colors in the interior, as often such elements radically change the tone of the ensemble and give it a particular style.

Paints and varnishes are good not only for decorating and updating doors, but also for the choice of shades. Today in stores you can find mixtures of not only classic and neutral, but also the most unexpected and even acidic tones. This suggests that the modern consumer is free to shape absolutely any interior, from classics to insane avant-garde.

Many users give preference to painting doors also due to the fact that everyone can cope with this process. It is not too complicated and does not require special knowledge and skills. It is enough to know only the basic basics of painting door leaves.

Product materials

Almost all types of modern interior doors are suitable for painting. High-quality wood or veneer canvases are ideal.

There are many attractive and durable hardwood models on the furniture market today, which include:

  • Beech. Otherwise, this breed is called the "tree of kings" because of its unsurpassed quality and solid appearance.
  • Oak. Oak doors boast enviable durability, reliability and a unique shade. This is especially true of the luxurious bog oak.
  • Nut. This attractive wood has an interesting moire pattern and rich dark shade.
  • Ash. In terms of strength, this material is comparable to oak, but it costs much less.
  • Linden. This wood has a light shade and is inexpensive.

No less popular canvases from coniferous tree species, such as:

  • Spruce. This material is not very durable, but it is ideal for an interior door.
  • Pine. Pine canvases have a pleasant and calm color. In addition, these doors are inexpensive and attractive.
  • Cedar. Cedar doors are highly reliable and resistant to mold.
  • Alder. Alder doors in their characteristics are in many ways similar to pine models, but they are more resistant to temperature extremes and exposure to humid air.

Hybrid products are also suitable for painting, which include a frame made of veneered or solid pine wood or an inexpensive canvas made of materials such as MDF, fiberboard or chipboard. Often such products are covered with veneer.

In addition, attractive veneered specimens can be shielded or paneled. Paneled structures are ideal for installation as a traditional piece of furniture. Conventional shield options can be used in a slightly different way.

Because of its smooth surface they are often used to create hidden interior paintings. Otherwise, such elements are called "invisible" doors.

You can paint not only wooden, but also plastic door... But if you want to achieve the most persistent and attractive result, then you will have to stock up on special spray paint in cans. For example, this could be the popular Amphibolin 2000 formulation.

How to paint in the apartment with your own hands?

The choice of a suitable paint and varnish coating mainly depends on what kind of appearance of the door leaf you plan to get as a result, on the experience in such matters and, of course, on the conditions in which the painting will be done. If you are going to process a door outside the walls of a dwelling, then you must choose an odorless finish so as not to harm the health of the people around.

There are several types of enamel paints on the market that can be used to treat the door and its constituent components:

  • Acrylic. Such paint perfectly hides any defects on the painted surface. It also protects the material from dampness and moisture, and the formation of mold. It can also be used for glass. Today, many companies produce high-quality acrylic compounds that are environmentally friendly.
  • Alkyd. This composition is very similar to the traditional oil paint but has more significant protective characteristics that can last up to 4 years.
  • Polyurethane. This paint is highly durable and durable. It perfectly fills the pores of natural wood, which protects it from moisture and pollution.

  • Water-dispersion and water-based. These paints are quick-drying and do not contain substances harmful to health. In addition, they do not emit a pungent odor and are durable.
  • Powder and hammer. These options have appeared on the market relatively recently. They are not designed for wood finishes. As a rule, metal canvases are covered with them.
  • Wax and oils. These specific finishes are more commonly purchased for wood finishes. They allow the material to "breathe" and have a restorative effect on damaged surfaces. However, wax coatings are not quick-drying, therefore it will be possible to use the treated door only after 3-4 days.

For patination, which is fashionable today, the following compositions are used:

  • Acrylic paint in a wide range of colors.
  • Bituminous, giving a dark brown tint.
  • A waxy patina that can have both natural and blue-green tones.
  • Shellac patina available in golden to red colors.
  • Oil patina, which is rarely used in modern interiors.

Required tools

To paint a door leaf, you must have the following materials and items:

  • "Trestles" or other similar structures for stowing the door in a suspended position;
  • brush;
  • dry brush;
  • fine-fleece roller;
  • special pallet for paint;

  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • sandpaper;
  • spray gun;
  • craquelure for door decoration.

Which color should you choose?

Modern manufacturers produce paints and varnishes of the most different colors... Thanks to such a rich assortment, homeowners will be able to easily implement even the most non-trivial design ideas.

Nowadays, there are several leading trends in the color of interior door structures:

  • soft and delicate shades, light notes of blue, peach, grassy, pink or lavender;
  • dark dense shades of brown, cherry, blue and chocolate flowers;
  • rich and juicy shades (red, orange and yellow);
  • noble tones imitating natural wood such as wenge, oak, walnut or cedar.

In addition, many designers when choosing suitable color recommend that the owners adhere to the following recommendations.

  • Deep and dark shades such as cherry, red walnut or dark chocolate will add luxurious and elegant notes to the living room interior.
  • As for discreet light colors, they are best suited for cozy bedrooms or children's rooms, as they create a peaceful and calm atmosphere.
  • If the room has a beautiful white bedroom set, then it is better to choose the door in a similar color scheme. It can also be supplemented with gilded panels.

  • V wooden house canvases made of solid wood treated with transparent oil impregnation will look ideal.
  • For a classic ensemble with antique interior items, you can purchase an interesting artificially aged model made of wood.
  • As for the door frame, it should be slightly lighter or darker than the main wall decoration.

Painting technology of a new canvas

Previously untreated wood intensively absorbs moisture. If, for example, you put such a cloth in a bath without treating it with special impregnations, then it will swell pretty soon and simply stop closing reliably. This suggests that before directly installing and painting a wooden door, it must be properly prepared.

All work must be carried out in a closed room so that dust and dirt do not get on the treated canvas.

First, the door without any fittings is laid on a flat and stable surface. As a rule, at the stage of production, the blades undergo preliminary grinding, however, quite often they still have minor roughness or protrusions, so it is worthwhile to go through it again with a sander or emery paper.

Before painting, the canvas must be treated with a primer. First, all the grooves of the canvas are covered with it, and then even surfaces.

Since the structures will be in a horizontal position, drips and drops will not appear on them, and the primer will be absorbed as evenly as possible. After that, you need to let the product dry to the end and carry out a second processing.

Now you can go directly to painting the canvas. It is better to cover panel models with a roller, and paneled ones - with a narrow brush. Make sure the paint is not too thick. If its consistency is that, then it should be diluted with a solvent.

Do not decorate the door with a too thick layer of paint, since the product can only deteriorate from such actions. Depending on the coverage characteristics, 2-4 coats of paint may be required. Keep in mind that each of them must dry completely before applying the next. While the door leaf itself dries, you need to process the opening.

If a wood stain is chosen to finish the new canvas, then the primer does not need to be used.

Drastic color change

A previously primed and painted door can be repainted on its own at home. First you need to spend all the necessary training... First of all, the old paint layer is removed. With the complete removal of the previous layers, the door can be repainted in any color, be it classic brown, white or black, as well as brighter and more colorful tones. However, in the second case, you should check how appropriate the paint will look in the room. To do this, you need to apply it on a couple of boards and attach it to the door leaf.

After these procedures have been carried out, you can start repainting the door according to the algorithm:

  • After that, you need to sand the surface with sandpaper.
  • Now we apply a layer of primer, oil or wax (you can choose fireproof materials).
  • Doors need to be painted from the top corner.
  • Small elements are painted with a brush.
  • The paint should only be applied in the direction of the wood grain.

Now you need to let the canvas dry completely. It is desirable that it be in a horizontal position.

How to remove old paint?

To soften previous paint layers, you can apply a chemical wash coat and let it soak into the surface. This job can take about 2 hours. Over time old paint will begin to bubble and move away from the door. It can be qualitatively removed with a spatula until the canvas is completely cleaned.

Also, to remove the old paint, it can be warmed up with a building hair dryer and removed with a spatula. As long as the finish is well heated, it remains as soft as possible and much easier to remove.

Both of these methods can be used. Especially often this method is used in order to clean oil paint applied in many layers.

You can degrease a wooden door with a metal brush and fine or coarse sandpaper. In especially difficult cases use a plane or aggressive chemicals. Plastic models are degreased with acetone and white spirit.

How to quickly putty?

Putty is the final stage of preparing the door for painting and does not take much time. Depending on the condition of the canvas, it can be filled in whole or in part. After that, you need to wait until the composition is completely dry and you should go over the door with sandpaper (over the entire surface or in separate areas). There is no need to rush here so as not to harm the canvas.

Two-color staining

If you want to paint a door using two different colors, such as contrasting black and white, then you first need to apply a base coat. In this case, white. After that, you should wait for it to dry completely and process those areas that will be painted in a different shade. Also, as you work, you can glue certain surfaces with adhesive tape so that paint of a different color does not get on them.

After drying and processing of the main layer, you can re-stick the tapes on it and start painting earlier. closed areas in black.

Making a semi-antique door

If you like vintage style and an antique look, the door can be decorated with a patina.

This procedure takes place in several stages:

  • first, the surface of the door is processed with an iron brush;
  • then a white primer is applied;
  • after it dries, a gray patina is applied;
  • her upper layer will need to be removed with a sanding block;
  • at the end, you need to apply at least two layers of enamel.

An MDF interior door is one of the most common and affordable options. Let's discuss what it is, what performance properties has a canvas made of this material. How and what to paint a door from MDF. The article contains owner reviews and recommendations for do-it-yourself installation. For convenience, the material is provided with video instructions.

What are MDF doors

The material consists of dried wood fibers and binders, the main of which is lignin. These are natural raw materials, at a price significantly lower than solid wood. This is largely due to the popularity of MDF doors. The construction of the blade consists of wooden frame, enclosed in it honeycomb filler and sheets of chip material on both sides. In addition to the democratic cost, the doors demonstrate the following positive characteristics:

How is the MDF door leaf

  • Resistance to mechanical damage;
  • Durability;
  • Resistant to mold and mildew;
  • Possibility of installation in a room with a humid environment;
  • No deformation due to temperature changes;
  • Ease of installation;
  • Light weight;
  • Fire safety;
  • They do not contain toxic substances.

Door leafs made of MDF can be decorated like a stone, imitate a wood texture, etc. They are often painted in a wide variety of colors. When choosing, you need to pay attention to the thickness of the sheet used in the structure. This indicator should be at least 3-5 mm. The thickness of the MDF is important for strength and sound insulation. In addition, the internal filling of the structure also affects the ability to protect against extraneous noise.

Important: Corrugated cardboard inside the door leaf does not provide good sound insulation, while polyurethane foam does an excellent job with this function.

How and what to paint a door from MDF

The staining result directly depends on the chosen paint. For MDF, the following options are suitable:

  • Nitro paint;
  • Acrylic;
  • Alkyd;
  • Water-dispersive;
  • Oil enamel.

When working with most dyes, it is necessary to ensure good ventilation, ventilation, it is advisable to use a respirator.

One of the significant disadvantages of MDF doors is the complexity of the restoration. A damaged canvas made of this material is extremely difficult to restore. Therefore, it is most often acquired new door instead of the failed one. You can save a lot by buying not a laminated version, but a cheaper one, for painting. In this case, for minimum costs finance and labor, you can get fully responsive to all color scheme premises door.

If it is decided to update with painting old door, it needs to be prepared. The canvas is removed from the hinges, the old coating is completely removed from its surface. This can be done using special washes, a grinder or heating with a construction hairdryer. Next, the canvas is sanded and, if necessary, putty.

Before work, all surfaces that cannot be stained are carefully sealed with molar tape. It is recommended to paint directly from top to bottom. The ends are tinted last. Most colorants are applied in two layers. This is how brightness and color saturation are achieved.

DIY installation

Installation of MDF doors differs little from similar structures made of other materials. You need to prepare the doorway by cleaning it and adjusting it to size. The box must be firmly inserted into the opening and securely fastened. MDF is able to bend under the pressure of the expanding polyurethane foam... You can avoid this trouble by using special brackets during installation. Or, you can place strong plates between the canvas and the box to protect it from deformation. Sometimes a fully assembled door unit is installed.

Advice. When installing a MDF door, it is advisable to use low expansion foam. This will reduce the risk of deformation of the box.

Although the material itself is moisture resistant, manufacturers rarely laminate or paint the back of the box. This becomes a weak point as moisture penetrates from there. To protect the box from deformation, you need to smear it yourself inner side silicone or impregnation.

The next step is fixed, the canvas is hung. Be sure to use the level. All distortions are eliminated. Then the fittings are installed, cut in. Getting started, watch a video that clearly shows the process.

Owner reviews

Interior doors made of MDF have received controversial reviews. Most of the negative characteristics are associated with unscrupulous manufacturers or sellers. After all, under a beautiful facade it is impossible to see the inner content. So, after the purchase, it turned out that the thickness of the slab was only 2 mm. Which is not enough for a door leaf under constant load.

Sometimes thick cardboard is used instead of MDF. The service life of such structures is minimal, and the quality is low. A manufacturer who has saved money at all stages of production can offer a very attractive price. However, it is precisely because of non-compliance with the manufacturing technology that MDF doors have a bad reputation. The owners write that they swell, scratch heavily, exfoliate, etc.

However, doors manufactured in accordance with the rules and standards have earned flattering reviews. They were purchased from conscientious sellers. The owners describe them as easy to care for, durable and really resistant to high humidity... But their price is no longer as low as most consumers hope.

Approaching the choice of MDF doors reasonably and carefully, you can purchase a durable and beautiful thing. Caring for a quality product is reduced to removing dirt from the surface. Installation of such a block will not be difficult. The weight of MDF is small, it is not difficult to work with it.

How to paint an MDF door with your own hands: video

If you decide to do budget repair, while you need to replace interior doors, the best option would be MDF interior doors. The popularity of this material (translated from English - medium density fibreboards) has won due to its strength, cheapness, and also a wide range of surface structure: they can be wood-like, smooth, with swaddling cloths, not textured, etc. .d. Thanks to such a wide assortment, they will perfectly fit into any interior; you just need to choose and paint them correctly. In today's article we will tell you , how to paint a MDF door yourself.

For interior design styles such as minimalism, hi-tech, modern, smooth, monochromatic MDF doors are perfect, which is also desirable to be painted in monochromatic colors. In this case, the color can be almost any: from snow-white to dark brown. It all depends solely on the tone of the apartment, as well as the wishes of the owners.

How to paint MDF interior doors

Painting MDF interior doors practically does not differ from painting wooden doors, but it has some peculiarities. If the interior MDF door that you need to paint has no panels and texture (i.e. it is absolutely smooth), it is best to paint it with a roller or spray. Relief surfaces are painted exclusively with brushes. If you have no experience working with a spray gun, painting MDF doors in this way is strongly discouraged.

Before starting painting, the brushes must be prepared: comb out and soak in water. You can also use a special varnish brush - it differs from ordinary brushes in a more durable fastening of the pile. Note that it is recommended to pass any paint, primer intended for painting through filters with a diameter of 50-100 mKm. If you are going to paint glossy MDF doors, such filtration is a must.

How to paint a MDF door

First, you should paint the ends, then go on to paint the upper left corner - from it the doors are painted a quarter. After that, they begin to paint the same rectangular areas from left to right, gradually going down.

Painting of interior doors from MDF in White color it is considered universal: this color is harmoniously combined with almost any color scheme inside the room.

If MDF doors are veneered coloring begins from the sides of the diaper, after which they move on to painting the protruding parts, horizontal transverse struts. The vertical parts of the canvas are painted with the very last. The paint must be applied in a vertical motion. Often, the coloring is done in several colors, emphasizing the originality of the diaper.

If the MDF door has a wooden structure, it can be painted in such a way that it is practically indistinguishable from an expensive solid wood interior door. To do this, the varnish must be mixed with paint, the resulting mixture must be coated twice on the surface. The result is a water-repellent surface with the desired “wood” shade.

The same effect, albeit in a different way, can be obtained, if the MDF doors are smooth. First, you need to choose a paint color close to woody, while the paint should be of 2 similar shades. A brighter tone is applied first, and while it is not dry, it is necessary to make stains on it with a special brush, which will resemble the patterns of a cut of a tree. This is not as difficult as it might seem: to get the hang of it, it is enough to practice a little on an unnecessary piece of MDF. After the first coat has dried, you can apply a darker paint.

Painting MDF doors , like any others, it should be done in warm weather - so that the room can be properly ventilated. The indoor temperature should be between 19-25 0 С.

Modern inexpensive means comfort at home. They fully support good noise and heat insulation, as they are full-bodied, produced by pressing various waste lumber. Coloring gives them their proper appearance. It is more difficult to choose a paint and carry out the work than with an array. This is what will be discussed.

How to choose a coating for MDF canvas

The abbreviation MDF stands for fine fraction. That is, the web consists of shavings and wood fibers, pressed or glued together. There is no need to talk about environmental qualities - the chemical composition is present in large quantities, but the disadvantage is covered by good performance and price. Nevertheless, coloring is difficult precisely because of the fraction - colored and transparent coatings are strongly absorbed. The composition is selected according to the following criteria:

  1. No pungent smell. There are no completely neutral compounds. Subtle smells are present anyway. They can affect the well-being of the master. Water-based enamels are the safest in contrast to alkyd or nitro enamels.
  2. Quick drying. This property is possessed by water-based and acrylic paints.
  3. Gloss is required. The surface of the door is similar to a sponge and the matte color is not very beautiful on it. This will require MDF, which is poured into a container before application to release air bubbles.
  4. High adhesion. This parameter is spelled out on the paint container.
  5. Low consumption - for standard door- 200 * 80 mm, a kilogram can of paint and the same amount of primer should be enough.

The color is chosen according to the designer's vision of the master, but in no case should the door distract attention to itself in the future.

Preparing to paint a MDF door

It is not difficult to paint a door from MDF on your own if you follow the rules of work. You will need tools: a spatula, rags, emery cloths, wood glue. First of all, it is important to prepare the canvas. For this:

  • Remove the door from its hinges and release it from the fittings. By the way, new handles will also play a positive role in the interior, along with the chosen color of the door.
  • Lay the canvas on a horizontal surface - when painting, then visible streaks are excluded.
  • They release the old painted MDF from the old coating by two methods - heating or dissolving the previous layers. It is better to use the first method to prevent softening of the MDF layer, which is already porous.
  • The canvas is sanded. Old newspapers are spread on the floor to collect fine wood dust - later it will come in handy. You will have to act manually - the MDF layers are too soft for mechanical action and in the absence of experience, the structure can be severely disturbed.
  • Collect wood waste and prepare a putty from them, adding wood glue to the dry mass. Such raw materials can hide all defects and at the same time not violate the structure of the door itself. After putty, the places are cleaned with fine emery cloth- so, all chips and cracks will be hidden by natural material.
Particular importance is attached to the insertion points of locks and handles - from constant activity, they split the fibers of the door. They are impregnated with wood glue and cleaned.

In order for MDF painting to become of high quality, it is important to choose the right tools: brushes, rollers, sponges.

For a dull surface, rollers are suitable, while the paint consumption will decrease. It is better to paint the inserts with brushes.

The paint, in addition to the above qualities, should give the coating strength. Glazal differs in this to a large extent:

  • Does not change colors. It can be added to a topcoat or used as a stand-alone compound.
  • Provides rigidity to the fibers. Painted MDF doors will be durable.
  • Allows you to create textured surfaces. Aging, Venetian coating, imitation of bark beetle and other decorations are made with a sponge or brush strokes. Gauze, rags, film are placed on the glazal. By removing, an unusual textured surface is obtained.

The composition is mixed with a base coat or primer. Painting goes as follows:

  • First, the canvas is primed with a large amount of drying oil. In addition to the varnishing effect, it will clog small pores, and the surface will become uniform. It will take 2-3 coats to prevent the coating from absorbing.
  • After drying the canvas, MDF - acrylic or oil. You need to act quickly so that the strokes are uniform, without gaps. Two to three coats will provide color and texture consistency.

The finishing touch will be a layer of varnish. Actually, this is the whole process. Painting MDF is no more difficult than any other surface.

Covering requirements

  1. Complete natural drying. If it is decided to paint the MDF at home in one tone, without any effects, then the color is best preserved when each layer is kept for at least two days. Adequate drying time will allow the coating to become durable - adhesion will be fully manifested.
  2. Application of paint in one layer, without going through the same area twice. This will make the door area uniform without gaps. If it is decided to restore semi-antique doors, then they act, on the contrary, on the not yet dry layer, apply contrasting strokes with the end of a dry brush.
  3. Interior and entrance doors are first painted on both sides, then proceed to the ends. So, there are fewer drips on a flat area. The ends of the MDF door must be protected from moisture penetration to a greater extent than the canvas - they are impregnated with water-repellent compounds before painting.
  4. If the old doors satisfy their appearance after cleaning, the natural style is left - it is always appropriate. They use only varnish.

Requirements for tools and materials

  • Paint rollers and paint brushes are first soaked in vinegar to soften them. Hard brushes are useful for creating complex effects - aging for example. A fur roller, when interacting with caustic paints, will leave a pile on the surface, therefore only spongy ones are used.
  • The use of paper tape will make the work neat. This is true for canvases with glass inserts or if it is decided to paint the paneled parts in a different color.
  • Eliminate sloppy traces of mdf paint, as well as drips, immediately. An ordinary sponge is useful for this. You cannot rub the layer, just blot it once.
  • The primer will reduce paint consumption, besides, the surface will become glossy, small cracks and other defects will hide. Drying oil is an inexpensive and reliable option.
  • Solvents will help wipe away the bloopers on the built-in locks. Cotton wool, soaked and laid inside, will not allow the mechanism to jam in the future. After work, it is recommended to lubricate them with machine oil for good functionality.

Not difficultMDF, if you prepare in advance for the process - choose a style, covering material, prepare. The result depends on the applied effort. Independent work will save family budget and will allow you to get an exclusive model of the home interior.

From MDF, it allows you to save money and get a door that fully matches the interior design.

How to paint MDF doors

It is very convenient and practical to paint interior doors with acrylic varnishes and paints. They dry quickly, have almost no smell, and are non-toxic. Random drops are easy to clean off the hands, with flooring... The painted surface is resistant to damage, all dirt can be easily washed off with ordinary soapy water.

When determining the required amount of paintwork materials, it should be borne in mind that not only the door leaf will be painted, but also the box, platbands. On average, you may need 1 kg of acrylic varnish or paint and the same amount of primer for painting one set.

The standard formula for calculating the amount of paintwork needed to paint interior doors, the approximate paint consumption (indicated on the can) plus 10%. Purchasing a small can of putty will help you avoid unnecessary trips to the store if you find small defects in the painted surface.

To avoid a conflict between paint layers, it is recommended to purchase products from the line of one manufacturer for wood products.

From a huge variety of colors and shades acrylic paints You can always choose the preferred color that is suitable for painting MDF doors and will be in harmony with the decor of the room.

To give paintwork the desired shade, you can additionally buy a special color scheme or use the services of professionals. Usually in building markets, a tinting of paints is offered, allowing you to get any of 10,000 shades. In this case, it is more convenient to have your own color sample with you. It should be borne in mind that:

  • on a large surface, light colors seem darker;
  • color perception depends on lighting - for a maximum color assessment, you can go outside with a sample;
  • the finished paint always appears lighter than on the sample.

Usually the program professional equipment remembers specific tinting schemes, but it is better to prepare the coloring composition immediately in the required volume. Small differences in the shade of paintwork materials of different batches will not allow achieving perfect similarity with the previous version of the color scheme.

Tools, equipment

When planning work on painting a door set, it is necessary to prepare in advance necessary tools, Consumables... At the same time, you should take care of organizing the storage of work equipment. This approach will help to reduce the time of work, avoid unplanned expenses.

A set of working tools:

  • brushes - narrow for painting small parts and medium for painting the door leaf, roller or spray gun;
  • a container for mixing paintwork materials during manual tinting - it should fit all the paint or varnish required for work;
  • drill with attachment or mixer - can be rented;
  • working container for paint - a small can or a special bath, if planned with a roller;
  • scotch tape, stencils, sponge - if desired, decorate the door leaf with drawings, ornaments;
  • sandpaper-zero;
  • gloves;
  • clean rags;
  • solvent.

You should also take care of the working area - cover the floor with paper, prepare wooden blocks on which you can put the interior door, door frame, platbands. It is necessary to provide normal conditions with the possibility of safe and convenient movement both during work and during the drying period of the paintwork layers.

How to paint MDF doors

Before applying paint, it is necessary to putty all cracks and cover the door with a layer of primer.

Before painting the interior door made of MDF, the elements of the box, platbands, they must be primed. The primer performs several functions at once:

  • completely dedusting surfaces;
  • prevents unnecessary consumption of more expensive paintwork materials;
  • improves adhesion properties;
  • ensures uniform coloring.

At the same time, the priming process helps to detect minor surface defects - chips, scratches, cracks.

It is possible to independently tint paintwork materials only in one container; most likely, it will not be possible to accurately repeat the desired shade in different buckets. Before opening cans of paint, you must once again carefully study the manufacturer's instructions attached to the color scheme. First, you can prepare the paint for a test in a small jar. To correctly assess the resulting shade, it is better to wait until the colored sample is completely dry.

  1. A layer of primer is applied to the dry interior door.
  2. Small cracks, scratches, chips are covered with putty.
  3. The surface is sanded with fine sandpaper.
  4. A second coat of primer is applied.
  5. All uncomfortable places are painted over with a brush - the ends, the lines of the panel drawing.
  6. The wooden product is painted completely - with a brush, roller or spray gun.
  7. If necessary, apply a second layer of paintwork.

When painting an interior door set with acrylic, each stage of work is carried out only after the previous layer has completely dried.

It is not recommended to accelerate drying with heating devices, fans, heat guns.

Water-based paints and varnishes slightly raise the pile of the wood. Therefore, before applying each next layer of acrylic varnish or paint, the previous one is carefully sanded with zero sandpaper.
