Today we will make a do-it-yourself paper holder kitchen towels. Consider two options - vertical and horizontal, suspended. The first one can be installed on any flat surface, the second is hung on the wall or furniture.

Vertical paper towel holder

This is how it looks separately and already in working condition, along with towels.

To make the holder, take:

  • used CDs - 8 pcs.
  • disk container
  • reel of towels
  • coffee capsule
  • leg-split
  • sandpaper
  • scissors
  • napkins
  • brushes

Making a towel holder

As the basis of the structure, we use a container from disks. We put discs in it, gluing them together.

Glue the coffee capsule to the end of the towel reel.

Additionally, we paste over the top with paper tape.

At the top of the bobbin we make a hole with an awl. We sand it.

Carefully cover the bobbin with a napkin. First, at the top, in separate chopped pieces.

Then we paste over the bobbin with a whole napkin.

We pierce the hole with an awl.

We begin to paste over the base of the holder from the container with disks with a napkin.

We are waiting for all the wipes to dry. After that, varnish on top.

Through the hole made in the holder, we pass a loop woven from twine.

That's it, now we just have to glue together the vertical part of the bobbin and the base of the container.

A similar holder can be made for use in the bathroom.

Hanging towel holder

The second version of the holder is hung on the wall. For its manufacture we take:

  • wooden sticks - 2 pcs.
  • ruler
  • screw pins
  • drill or engraver
  • hooks
  • sandpaper

Making a wall-mounted towel holder

We take a wooden stick and prepare it. If there are irregularities, they must be carefully removed (for example, with a knife), and then the entire surface should be sanded.

On the prepared stick, we make small holes on both sides with an awl - for screw pins.

Now screw the pins.

The second stick should be slightly longer. We measure the levels of the screwed pins, add about 1 cm each and put marks. We drill in these places through holes for cord.

If desired, sticks can be decorated: painted, tinted, varnished, decoupage. We consider the simplest option.

We collect the holder. We put hooks on the pins. In the absence of such hooks, you can make them from wire. Hooks are needed for the convenience of changing towels.

We put towels on the lower stick. We tie a cord to the hooks and thread it through the top stick. Everything, now the holder can be hung on the wall.

If you do not have ready-made elements for hanging the holder on the wall, we make them yourself. First, we drill holes in the wall (in this case, in the cabinet door).

Then we screw the hooks on the pins into the holes.

If you are sorry to drill furniture, you can make holes in the wall. And if it is convenient to make holes on the cabinet door, you can use special suction cups instead of screw pins.

Everything, the holder is ready and installed.

Necessary materials

To make a rolled paper towel holder, you will need planed pine planks. The dimensions of the homemade product are small, so you can take the remaining 15–25 mm thick trimmings from previous projects. If there is no home workshop suitable material, you can glue a shield 180 mm wide out of wood with your own hands or purchase a ready-made furniture panel of a small size.

For the crossbar, a round stick with a diameter of about 25 mm is suitable, for example, from a garden tool handle. The side handles are a little modified doorknobs. Although such details are not a problem to carve on lathe on wood. A magnet, carpentry glue, a drop of any universal glue and a screw will also come in handy.

How to make a holder

Shelf holder device

The design of the towel holder is so simple that all the work can be done hand tools: cut the grooves with a hacksaw, and then remove the wood with a chisel. Well, if there is a circular saw or a router, it will be much easier, and the connections will come out neater. What you definitely can’t do without is an electric drill and spade drills.

Start with horizontal shelves

Prepare two blanks with a width of 180 mm and a length in proportion to the rolled towels used. Saw along the edges of the grooves on circular machine or select them manual router. Sand the edges with sandpaper.

The parts of our towel holder are glued together with grooves and ridges. Strong docking nodes provide structural rigidity and do not need to be reinforced with screws. The dimensions of the cutouts are given for a pine board with a thickness of 18 mm, when using a different material, calculate the cutouts yourself.

Make two sides

Mark a sidewall with rounded cutouts on a wooden shield, cut the workpiece with a jigsaw and grind the edges with a grinder. Make the second part using the first as a template.

Mark on internal surfaces sidewalls the location of the grooves, which should be 1 mm wider than the corresponding ridges on the horizontal parts. Select recesses with a slotted disc or cutter.

Take a round blank for the crossbar with an allowance of 2–3 cm in length and sand its surface. Measure the diameter of the stick and pick up a slightly larger feather drill. Mark the drilling centers on the sidewalls and make holes: on the left workpiece up to half the thickness of the material, and on the right - a through hole.

Assemble the holder parts together

Lubricate the grooves and ridges of the blanks with glue and assemble the structure. Pull the blanks with clamps and wait for the adhesive to dry completely. Then fix the handle on the left sidewall with a countersunk screw, screwing it into the bottom of the blind hole.

Recess in the left sidewall - the head of the screw protrudes slightly above the surface

Make a blind hole in the right handle for the size of a round stick, limiting the drilling depth to 15 mm. Fasten the parts with wood glue.

Round stick-crossbar is glued into the right handle

Insert the crossbar into the holder until it stops and determine the length of the stick, taking into account that the magnet subsequently placed from the end should protrude slightly from the surface. Saw off excess wood, select a recess for the magnet and secure it with all-purpose glue.

Cover the wood with stain or varnish. After drying, fasten the holder with short screws to the bottom panel of the kitchen cabinet, and hang the roll of paper towels in place.

Our homemade product can also be mounted on the wall through the furniture corners installed inside the shelves. In this case, the top panel turns into additional storage space.
