Advantages and disadvantages of wallpaper blinds

Suppose after repair you have unnecessary rolls. They can be used to organize light-protective canvases on windows, that is, to manufacture. However, before you start creating a useful accessory, you should familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages, which sometimes become decisive.

Let's take a look at the benefits first:

As for the disadvantages of this invention, it is not subject to wet cleaning and fades very quickly in the sun. Therefore, after a while it turns into a very unattractive product.

Interesting ideas for window blinds from wallpaper with your own hands

If you are faced with the question of how to make blinds for windows, you must first determine the required dimensions. It all depends on the width of the window opening and the frame itself. It is from this that it is worth starting from the development of design. Consider some incredible ideas that will transform the room.

  1. Floral options. Various colors may be involved here, but pink, lilac and green are more common. This design can be done in the form of a "Peacock tail" and an unusual accordion. Often a light colorful version of the blinds is hung.
  2. Accordion blinds - pleated. With the right manufacture, they will bring zest to the interior design of the room.
  3. . This is one of the simple ideas on how to make blinds from wallpaper. There is nothing to make here, except for a small decorative mount. Such curtains last longer than others and perfectly regulate the intensity of light transmission.
  4. Accordion "Inside" It is considered a completely complete solution for windows if the morning sun enters the room. The manufacturing process is quite simple. There is also a variant of folds to the outer edge of the window.
  5. If there are already finished blinds, but I want to diversify them, why not stick pieces of colored wallpaper to the stripes. But here it is important to accurately determine the dimensions so as not to disrupt the closing-opening function.

In addition, a housewife can not limit herself to fantasy at all. Why not create your own decoration idea and surprise your guests?

How to choose components for the manufacture of blinds

When choosing materials for making homemade window blinds, you can use any type of paper wall covering (it is desirable that they have a good density). At the same time, it is better to pay attention to those that will match (usually this happens, since the remnants of pasted ones are used).

Wallpaper

In addition to those materials that remain after, completely different ones can be used. Fabrics can be chosen according to your preferences.

Please note that too bright colors are not suitable for placement in rooms with a sunny side. Such options burn out very quickly and lose presentable appearance. But models of rolls in light colors will retain their freshness longer.

As for density, paper wallpaper should be preferred for learning how to make. They bend perfectly and keep their shape throughout the season. But ordinary paper practically does not darken the room, and if it is urgently needed, then why not use vinyl or interlining?

Suitable tools

To decorate windows, you will need a small list of tools and improvised means, namely:

  • scissors, hole punch, ruler;
  • decorative tape, retainer, lace;
  • glue or double-sided tape;
  • nippers, painting knife.

You can’t do without the listed list in order to fix the finished blinds in the window opening. Accessories can be plastic silicone or metal. The main thing is that the hostess has the skills to work with them.

Features of making do-it-yourself blinds for windows in the form of an accordion

Wallpaper blinds are considered so affordable that they can be made without difficulty, the main thing is to prepare so that all the components for work are at hand.

What you need to make

First of all, you should prepare tools for each stage of work. They can then simply be removed to the side so as not to interfere. What will be useful:

  • scissors, tape measure;
  • double-sided tape, lace;
  • clamps with spring;
  • hole puncher;
  • the wallpaper itself.

Instead of a hole punch, you can use a simple pencil with an empty grater compartment at the end. Only work in this way will be many times longer and more difficult.

How to measure the window opening and frame

Depending on how the paper curtain will be fastened, the parameters should also be measured. To attach the curtain to the outer edge of the window opening, you need to measure its length and width, and add 10 cm to the blinds down and on the sides as a margin.

If the fixation of the paper curtain will be carried out inside the opening, then it is advisable to make its size 5-10 mm narrower. As for mounting on the frame, here it is necessary to measure the glass and use the dimensions of the canvas exactly. It is even easier to try on the canvas on the window and add half the height of the window down to it, because when folded, the length decreases somewhat.

For the convenience of taking measurements, a laser tape measure is suitable. With it, you will definitely not make mistakes.

Do-it-yourself blinds from wallpaper step by step: detailed photo instructions

It is preferable to work on a large free surface. Best of all, on a clean floor. Prepare it for this: remove the tracks and wipe. Next, we act according to a strict algorithm, illustrated by a photo that will help you make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands.

Illustration Action Description

We prepare the necessary equipment and make sure that they are in harmony with the interior.

We make segments according to measurements, if necessary, glue the width on the sides. This is only done if the wallpaper is narrower than the window opening.

Next, we do the accordion folding. For convenience, we take a ruler, the width of each fold should be 3-4 cm.

We fold with an accordion almost to the very top. You can leave a fragment for fixing to the frame, but not necessary. We fix the ends with a clothespin and leave for a while.

Then we bend the entire resulting structure in half to get a fan with a gap in the center.

We make a through puncture in the center with an awl. The upper part of the resulting fan is used for gluing.

Using a gypsy needle, thread through both holes. In this case, the length of the lace must be greater than the length of the finished curtain. We lower our clamp almost to the very bottom.

We pass the lace through the hole in the wallpaper and glue it with adhesive tape to inside folds so that the puff is held firmly.

Attach two strips of double sided tape. If it is wide, then one tape for the entire width will be enough.

We are peeling off a little protective strip adhesive tape and glue to the frame or slope. We adjust the height of the canvas with a clamp.

We see that the process of making paper blinds takes about 30 minutes. At the same time, the result is quite unusual and rich, despite its budget.

Master class on making roller blinds from wallpaper with your own hands

Do-it-yourself wallpaper roller blinds are a great option for decorating double-glazed windows. They can be made from any kind of paper wall covering. If you want the curtains to cover the entire window, then most likely two halves of the canvases will come in handy. You can also choose wider options. Do-it-yourself blinds made of non-woven or vinyl wallpaper are considered a good alternative to paper ones, since this business requires even canvases that are difficult to wrinkle.

What do you need to work

Stock up on material that is really suitable for a particular room. And for the job itself will come in handy:

  • roll (may not be whole);
  • tube for fixing the roll;
  • scissors, double-sided tape;
  • fixing tapes.

To create rolled paper curtains, it is necessary to provide for the option of fastening to the window, otherwise there may be breaks in the structure of the wallpaper and their unreliable fixation in the opening. An excellent solution would be to install a special cornice.

Removing window dimensions

The most convenient way to measure a window is to use a piece of wallpaper and figure out what width you need for the opening. If the roll is too narrow, you can expand the canvas a little by gluing additional strips on both sides so as not to spoil the design.

If you measure the width of the window with a tube, then it is not necessary to know the exact value. Attach it to the window, cut off the excess and, based on its length, select the required width of the wallpaper.

We make blinds from wallpaper with our own hands: step by step instructions

It is not difficult to make roller blinds from the remnants of wallpaper, the main thing is to follow the instructions and do not forget important points. Let's analyze in more detail the whole essence of the process.

  1. We take the selected handset (you can use the old one from the factory roller blinds), glue the tape of double-sided tape along the entire length.
  2. Fixing inner part wallpaper on the tube and wind it up to the end.
  3. We bend the lower end of the wallpaper, insert it into the weighting bar into a special groove. It is important that this load captures the entire length of the blinds.

The only thing left is to fix the finished paper curtain in the window opening. For details on how to make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands, see the video at the end of the publication.

How to fix a curtain rod for a roller blind

For fixing it is better to use specialized cornices with brackets. Such models are sold in stores. They have special grooves and rope mechanisms that will securely fix the roll and will freely adjust its height.

You can independently insert special regulators or an axis with a holder into the tube, which will play the role of a curtain lifter.

Do-it-yourself paper blinds "Peacock tail" from wallpaper: what is important to remember when making

The rounded options are considered the most popular today. They are suitable not only for rectangular windows, but also look perfect in semicircular double-glazed windows. To properly build this element, you need to study a few useful tips:

  • to obtain an inextricable semicircle at the base of the paper blinds, you can use double-sided tape by gluing the two ends together;
  • when installing a fan structure in a semicircular frame, it can be made from several canvases glued in width and simply fixed at the bottom point with glue or a clothespin;
  • semi-circular wallpaper blinds can only partially close the window, for example, from above. Such options are usually fastened from below with a stapler with large staples.

Today, many people choose wallpaper blinds for the interior. This option is very unusual, interesting - it is thanks to this that it has gained popularity among consumers.

History of occurrence

Blinds appear in history in the second half of the XVIII century - in Philadelphia. They began to be produced by the English designer John Webster. But only almost a hundred years later, the American industrialist John Hampton receives a patent for them, and so they enter into everyday life people already “officially”: first from wood and fabric, later (already in the second half of the 20th century) from metal.

The name comes from the French word "jalousie" and translates as "jealousy". Most likely, the origins of the appearance of such products go back to the distant past: to the traditional East and medieval Europe.

In the first case, a particular culture and strict rules of conduct tell jealous husbands to hide the beauty of their own wives. So the first versions of such “curtains” appear on the windows: wooden crafts let in a sufficient amount of light into the room, but hide everything that is inside from strangers.

In Europe, similar products were appreciated by the representatives of the oldest profession, because they helped them to keep the intrigue in front of their clients: through the gaps, outlines were visible, a feeling of something forbidden, distant was created - and at the same time close and accessible, interest was warmed up.

Now blinds have firmly entered everyday life, they are used by people in the most different rooms: from apartments to various offices.

Blinds in the interior

Blinds turn out to be the solution that is suitable for any season and for any type and style of premises. In summer, they will give the space freshness, improve mood, letting in warm sunlight with diffused rays. In winter, they will give a cozy atmosphere. Such products can be used in almost any room - thanks to the large number of options.

If the office is decorated in laconic minimalism or in high-tech style, you can either use classic products that do not stand out from the general background, or choose an option from the wallpaper. So you can completely transform the room, as if breathing new life into it.

You choose: whether to use a solid material that blends with common style, or make a bold move, accent color or pattern on the windows. Designers have long been using such "games" with color schemes to give freshness to the interior.

If you are the owner cozy apartment in vintage or Japanese style, then this option is not ideal. Remember ancient Japan with its thin paper screens or a small scattering of flowers on the walls. Light blinds made of wallpaper will be a very good solution.

The use of paper blinds does not end with window coverings. They can also be used for doorways, separating rooms in the absence of doors. From such products, a small screen may well turn out, successfully zoning the space or hiding parts of the room from each other. Do not be afraid to experiment, you can always change the material, remove it.

Is it possible to do it yourself?

Blinds are one of the most comfortable types of curtains to use. If we compare them with classic light curtains made of fabric, it can be noted that the blinds are much easier to clean from dust and other contaminants (you can forget about long washing and drying).

Thanks to such products, it is possible to provide both complete darkness and bright light, twilight in the room: you just need to raise or lower the blinds. Diffused light when choosing a paper version is very relaxing.

Today there is a large selection of materials: various types of wood, metal, fabric, paper (even a newspaper will do), wallpaper. Each option has its pros and cons.

Perhaps the greatest variety is the blinds of the wallpaper. Here a lot of textures and patterns allows you to choose the option that is right for your interior. Ease of handling and care will not make you regret the time, effort and money spent after a while.

A very important plus is that you are completely independent of either the size or the type of products. Attach such "curtains" (both on plastic and on wooden frames windows in a room or on a balcony) is as easy as shelling pears.

The main advantage is the price: there is no need to go to the salon and spend money, because such “curtains” can be easily and simply made by anyone with their own hands. The result will not be worse, while the creation of such products will not be difficult. You will be completely free to choose colors, style and more.

As a result, you will get a unique material that protects from street light. This is a universal solution for any interior style. When designing an ideal room, many are looking for practicality, ease of creation. It is worth considering a life hack.

Do this useful decoration for the home is quite simple: you just have to take your time and take into account all the recommendations below. So the product will turn out as accurate as possible, the results of the work will delight you.

When choosing a material, it should be borne in mind that the wallpaper must be paper. Vinyl or acrylic wallpaper cannot be bent and assembled into an "accordion". A thread or rope should be taken strong, capable of holding the entire structure.

To get homemade blinds from wallpaper, prepare the following:

  • a strong thread or rope (you can choose it to match the color of the wallpaper, or you can focus on it);
  • scissors and / or construction knife;
  • hole punch or awl;
  • glue or tape (double-sided, so that you can fix the entire structure);
  • fixing device;
  • pencil and ruler;
  • wallpaper.

Step by step instructions for the classic version:

  • Window lock. You need to know the height exactly, then you should add another quarter to it (it will go to create an "accordion"). Cut the rope to the same length as the material. Leave a few centimeters on the sides so that the blinds do not cling, and can be easily raised and lowered. Also calculate the distance from the window where you will hang the blinds: when the products are assembled, there should be some space left to the glass and the frame.
  • Wallpaper work. According to the measurements obtained earlier, cut off the required amount of wallpaper. Collecting them into an "accordion", you should first make equal indents for the folds with a pencil (using a ruler). In classic blinds, the indentation of each step is 3-5 cm. As a result, the same rectangles should be obtained. Be careful, otherwise the blinds will turn out crooked.
  • Threading through a thread. Make holes on the sides of the wallpaper with an awl or hole punch. The resulting holes must be secured with adhesive tape from the back and perforated again. With wide windows, you can make a third hole in the middle (a ruler is used to measure). Pass the thread.

Idea: in some interiors, a hemp cord looks beautiful instead of a thread. It is suitable, for example, for interiors that use natural materials(wood inserts and the like) or a small floral print. In more classic interior options, you can try using a satin ribbon.

  • Fasteners. Using double-sided tape, attach the blinds across the entire width. Straighten them to the length you need, make knots so that the blinds are assembled evenly. Make sure that the nodes (especially under the lowest and highest steps) do not slip into the holes.
  • Final touch. To fix the blinds at the bottom can be used as special devices, and simple clothespins.

Idea: you can use braid or hemp cord (if the interior and wallpaper pattern allow).

A more interesting looking option (suitable for narrow windows):

  1. Window lock. It happens exactly the same as in the first option. Remember that in the final version below you will get a semicircle half the width of the original.
  2. Wallpaper work. The canvas is drawn and bent into an "accordion" - with an indent of 3-5 cm. After that, you should find the middle, make a hole in it (with an awl or a hole punch). Fix the resulting hole on the back with tape - and then pierce it again.
  3. Fasteners. Attach double-sided tape to the upper step along the entire length, hang the “curtains”. Spread them to the required length - taking into account the fact that the decoration will take another half the width of the cut canvas. Straighten, make knots on the rope / thread so that they do not slip into the holes.
  4. Final touch. Double-sided tape is attached to the bottom step on one half. Then the edges are gently pulled together until a semicircle is formed in the end.

The summer heat forces even the most resistant to high temperatures people to close themselves from the merciless rays of the sun, especially in those cases when the windows of the apartment face south. It is not always financially possible to purchase high-quality window blinds, and sometimes there is simply no desire to wait until they are made to a certain size. Therefore, the question arises of how to make blinds from wallpaper, the excess of which, as a rule, remains after repair and collects dust in the pantry. Besides thick paper wallpaper can not only protect the room from overheating, and curtains from burnout, but also organically fit into the overall interior, especially if you use the same material that the walls of the room are pasted over.

This way to protect yourself from the sun will save not only a decent amount, but also time, as it will save you from repeated trips to the workshop.

In addition, you can notice that neatly made pleated blinds will not look disharmonious or “beggarly” at all - today some designers purposefully opt for this particular option for protecting windows from sunlight, because such curtains are quite capable of becoming a real decoration of the room.

It is also very important that making such paper curtains is within the power of any homeowner, even one who has never done needlework before. Therefore, if you have everything you need to make pleated blinds at hand, you can safely get down to business.

Production of pleated blinds

The first option and several of its varieties

Before starting work, it is imperative to clear the table of everything superfluous, since you will need a lot of space on which you can freely spread a wallpaper canvas with a length of at least 1500 mm. After that, you can proceed to the preparation of all the necessary tools, which, however, can certainly be found in any home.

Illustration
So, for the manufacture of blinds you will need:
- canvas, preferably paper wallpaper;
- scissors;
- meter ruler and pencil;
- a beautiful thin cord, approximately 1.5 ÷ 2 mm thick;
- awl;
- Double-sided tape,
- stationery knife.
In addition, you may need tape to decorative design or supporting the canvas in a folded form, depending on the chosen model of pleated blinds.
Instead of a retainer, it is quite possible to use an ordinary clothespin that matches the color of the wallpaper, or a hair clip.
The latch is necessary to fix the blinds in the desired position.
For this purpose, an accessory element of clothing is used, which can most often be found on the laces of the hoods of sweatshirts or jackets.
A rope is threaded into it, it is clamped inside the latch, and the curtain is securely held at the selected height.
The very first step is to measure the window or only the double-glazed window, depending on how wide it is planned to make the curtain.
Let's say the height of the window is 1350 mm, about a quarter is added to this value, that is, in this case, another 350 mm, which are necessary for the formation of folds.
The result is a length of 1700 mm - this length will require wallpaper.
Further, wallpaper is spread on the table, measured right size canvases.
To prevent the roll from curling, it is recommended to put a load on it along the edges.
After marking the required length, it is necessary to draw a line perpendicular to the edges along the square, along which the wallpaper is cut.
Then, the wallpaper canvas intended for blinds must be marked for the size of the corrugations.
Typically, the width of the fold is 20÷30 mm.
Naturally, the risks along the edges of the canvas must correspond to each other.
According to the marking points made, the canvas must be drawn using a ruler.
According to the marked lines, it will be easier to bend the canvas into an "accordion".
The first fold is best folded using the edge of the ruler.
It is laid along the drawn line, the edge of the canvas is folded and the fold of the fold is marked, so the fold will turn out to be even and clear.
If the wallpaper is too dense, then along the drawn line, attaching a ruler, it is carried out with folded scissors or the blunt side of the blade of a table knife, with slight pressure.
Then, to get a clear line, bending the first fold, draw along it with the side of a pencil or pen (naturally, so that there is no trace left - the pencil must be clean).
Further, focusing on the markup and the first bend, the fold is bent in the opposite direction, according to the "accordion" principle.
Such manipulations are carried out until the entire canvas is folded into an even pile.
The resulting “accordion” is pressed from above with a ruler, which will additionally help to temporarily fix the “pleated” shape in this position.
After that, depending on the chosen model of the blinds, the middle of the curtain width is determined, or it retreats 150 mm from the edges to pierce holes.
In the first case, one cord will be passed through the middle of the future curtain, in the second model, two cords are passed through the canvas closer to the edges of the blinds.
At the indicated points, with the help of an awl, one hole is pierced in the middle part of the folded curtain, or two - closer to the edges.
The resulting punctures need to be slightly expanded by gently twisting the awl in them.
This will be required in order to pass the ropes through them, which should move freely inside the holes made.
The next step, using a “gypsy” needle or a crochet hook, a rope is pulled through the holes, the edges of which must be melted in advance, and its lower side must be fixed in the latch.
Moreover, below the latch, you need to leave a cord with a length of approximately 400 ÷ 500 mm - this will be a margin for stretching the curtains in length.
Later, its excess can be cut off, and the end can also be melted.
When the rope is stretched through the entire "accordion", it should be secured with tape on the top fold of the curtain.
Then, a strip of double-sided tape is glued onto the same part of the blinds.
The result should be something like this.
Both the first and second versions of the curtains can be left rectangular, tied, for example, with ribbons from below.
Blinds with one cord passed through the middle can be folded into a “fan” by pulling it up a little and securing it with a latch.
After the "fan" is formed, its edges are glued together with double-sided tape or, if possible, with silicone using a special gun.
But in this case, it will no longer be possible to separate the glued edges in the future.
Therefore, instead of glue, you can use a small clothespin or hairpin for fastening, hooking it in the middle of the width of the blinds, from the side that will be turned to the window glass.
In this case, such a fixation of the "fan" will be invisible from the room, and at any time there is the possibility of straightening the bottom of the blinds, making them even.
If a fan-shaped bottom of the curtain is chosen, then its folds must be beautifully and carefully straightened so that the rays of the folds converge at one point in the center.
Ready-made blinds are fixed to the upper part of the window frame, using a strip of double-sided tape previously pasted on them, from which the protective film is removed before fixing.

There are several more options for blinds, which you can also make yourself using wallpaper canvases.

  • This is a simpler version of pleated blinds, for which you don’t even need to prepare and thread cords through the canvas. For such a curtain, you will need a wallpaper canvas, which is folded like an accordion in the same way as described in the table above. Blinds are also fixed on the frame with double-sided tape, and their lower side in the middle is pulled up and fixed with a regular clothespin or hairpin, forming a beautiful fan. If desired, on the wallpaper canvases, from the side facing the street, you can stick a foil that will reflect ultra-violet rays without letting them heat up the room.

  • If arched windows are installed in the apartment, then wallpaper blinds can become a real decoration for them, as they are fixed along the arch in the form of an elegant fan, collecting one edge of the wallpaper bent into an “accordion”.

To do this, on the wallpaper, previously folded with an "accordion", an ordinary adhesive tape 15 mm wide is glued along one edge.

Then, the "accordion" is collected in a pile and pierced with an awl through and through from the side where the adhesive tape is fixed. Through the resulting hole, with the help of a gypsy needle, a cord is pulled, which will pull the lower edge of the fan, and the adhesive tape will not allow the paper to tear. The cord is tied into a knot on the side that will be turned to the glass. Blinds made in this way will not only protect the room from the sun, but also give the room a special charm, emphasizing the shape of the arch.

Blinds prices

  • If the arched part of the window is divided by a vertical rack of the frame, then two half-fans are made for each half of it according to the principle described above. They are fixed to each window sash separately, making up a whole semicircle. This method of fixing curtains on an arched window looks no less interesting than the previous version.
  • If there is a need to close only the upper part of the window, for example, to block the flow of sunlight to any specific part of the room (baby cot, desktop, etc.), then you can use wallpaper folded in the form of a fan and fixed to one of the frame corners. This option looks quite original, both from the inside of the apartment and from the street.

The second option - the task is somewhat more complicated

Making the next model of paper curtains, including wallpaper, will take much longer than a regular pleated blind. However, they also look more respectable, and also protect the room from heat much more reliably, as they consist of two layers, between which an air gap is created.

  • For the manufacture of such blinds, the wallpaper must be marked and cut into strips, approximately 100 mm wide.
  • The strips are twisted into a tube in length, and then their edges are glued with an overlap of 10 mm. There should be enough such tubes so that they are enough for the entire height of the window.
  • The glue should dry well, and then each tube is compressed into a flat lamella, so that clear side ribs are outlined, and the place of its gluing is in the middle of the upper side.
  • The next operation is the middle line of each folded tube, coated with glue with a strip of 10 ÷ 12 mm, and all elements are glued together along the length. The glue should not spread, so dry glue is best - otherwise the whole effect of lightness of such a design will be smeared.
  • All glued and stacked tubes should dry well.
  • Then, without unfolding the resulting structure, 150 mm must be retreated from its edges. In these places, with the help of an awl, holes are pierced and expanded, into which cords are passed. They should not be visible from the outside, as they will pass inside the straightened tubes. The lower ends of the ropes are passed through the clamps, which will help to hold the curtain in different positions. Thanks to the air gaps formed in the tubes, the blinds can be completely stacked or raised to the desired height.
  • You can hang these blinds using two plastic rings tied to the upper edges of the rope. They are hung on hooks screwed into the upper slope of the window opening. In case of plastic windows and - you can get by with double-sided tape, since such blinds are not at all heavy.

Newspaper blinds

This type of blind can be made from any paper, including wallpaper, but still, old newspapers are most often used to make this variety - due to the fact that they are printed on thin, easily curled and retained paper.

To work, you will need a lot of newspapers, a beautiful thin cord, two plastic rings, self-tapping screws, nails or hooks, depending on which plane the blinds will be fixed to.

For the manufacture of curtains of this type, 900 × 400 mm in size, it will be necessary to wind 170 ÷ 200 newspaper tubes 400 mm long. If they get a little longer, then they can be trimmed at the end of the work. Based on this proportion, you can calculate the amount for your size of the window opening.

IllustrationBrief description of the operation to be performed
To make it easier to preparatory stage work - the preparation of tubes, you will need a knitting needle or another fairly thin metal rod.
Its diameter will depend on how large it is planned to make these elements of the blinds.
Having wound the newspaper on the rod, its edge is fixed with dry glue or PVA. The glue must dry well.
Having prepared the required number of tubes, they must be painted acrylic paint, moreover, you can use any colors - as intended by the sketch of future blinds.
It is recommended to take a coloring composition intended for facade works because it is more water resistant.
Additionally, it is best to add PVA glue to the paint in a ratio of 3: 1.
After the paint dries, the tubes are laid out in a row and leveled.
Further, you can proceed to the crucial stage - to fastening them together into one “canvas”.
This process can be done in two ways:
The first option is to fasten the tubes by twisting them with a rope, making one or two knots between them, or simply using the “figure eight method”.
It is best to fix the knots with glue so that they do not untie and loosen.
Work begins from the top side of the curtain. The rope is tied to a plastic curtain ring, its ends should be about one and a half times longer than the length of the blinds, and it is better if they are even a little more than they are not enough.
Then, the two ends of the cord are intertwined, one of which runs from the outside, and the other from the back of the tubes.
The second option is suitable for those who know the art of crocheting. Moreover, knowledge of complex patterns in this case is not required at all - you only need to be able to weave a simple chain.
This method of fastening is more reliable, as it firmly holds the tubes next to each other.
At the same time, the cord does not spontaneously weaken and does not stretch.
If the tubes are tied in knots, then in the lower part, the cord is also tied in a knot, which must be additionally fastened with glue for reliability.
In order to hang the blinds on the window frame, you can drive carnations into it, screw in screws or special hooks.
If the blinds turned out to be uneven at the edges, then they must be carefully cut with sharp large scissors so that they do not jam the edges of the tubes.
After that, it is recommended to cover the finished product with acrylic varnish, which will make the tubes more durable and give them a matte sheen.
In finished form, the blinds look something like this.
If it is necessary that there be a smaller distance between the tubes, then instead of two knots, you can tie one, use the figure-eight weaving system or a crocheted chain.
In this photo you can see how the street is visible through the tubular blinds.
At the same time, coolness is maintained in the room, and it is possible to freely view the street from the room, and at the same time, nothing will be visible from the outside.
If this type of blinds is painted in White color, then in the evening the window will look as shown in the photo, that is, the opening will not be highlighted with a dark spot.

On a cloudy day, if you want to open the window completely, you can use two methods.

  • Firstly, the blinds are easy to remove as unnecessary, as they are hung on the window with two rings, but you can do it in another way.
  • Secondly, it is easy to make the simplest "regulator" for the height of the blinds. From the side of the window, cords are tied to the plastic rings, 200 ÷ 250 mm long, and another ring is attached to their lower end. When the blinds are rolled up, in a roll, the bottom ring is put on the same nail or hook on which the blinds are hung. Instead of a cord, you can use one or two satin ribbons that will not only support the curtain, but can also serve as a decorative decoration.

It should be noted that the same blinds can be made not only from newspapers, but also from a smooth wooden rod, well-dried reeds or plastic tubes, which are fastened together in exactly the same way.

Decorating old blinds with paper wallpaper

If there are already blinds on the windows, but they have lost their attractive appearance, and I would like to purchase new ones, but there are certain difficulties with finances, then there is still a way out. Look in the "stash" - after one of the repairs, a piece of wallpaper probably remained, and you just have to make a little effort, as appearance windows will be changed.

So, in order to carry out this somewhat even creative process, you need to prepare:

  • Wallpaper or beautiful decorative paper.
  • Any plastic blinds.
  • Brush and PVA glue.
  • Scissors, ruler and pencil.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to work:

  • First of all, the blinds need to be cleaned of dust that can accumulate on the lamellas during their operation. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to do this, but such an operation is necessary because the wallpaper will not adhere well to the surface of dirty plastic.
  • Cleaned and dried blind slats must be measured and counted.
  • Further, the wallpaper is spread on the table and marked with a ruler and a pencil according to the dimensions taken from the lamellae. Then, the canvas is drawn into the required number of stripes. In addition, they should note the location of the holes through which the connecting threads on the blinds are passed. It is recommended that all stripes, according to the figure, be immediately numbered so that there is no inconsistency in the ornament.
  • Then, the wallpaper is cut into marked strips, and in the places where the holes are, cuts are made, or each of the paper overlays is cut into three parts. They will be glued to the lamellas between the holes for the fastening threads.
  • The next step is to carefully stick the wallpaper strips onto the slats of the blinds. If the strips protrude slightly beyond the edges of the lamellas, then after the glue dries, their excess is carefully cut off with a sharp clerical knife. Do not trim the paper until the glue has dried, otherwise the work may be damaged.

  • So that the wallpaper coating is less polluted, and the lamellas can be periodically cleaned of dust, they are covered with two to three layers of acrylic varnish. Each subsequent layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried.

It should be noted that to tidy up the blinds or just give them more decorative look It is possible by sticking a stained glass film on them, which is available today in the same way as wallpaper, and has a very affordable price. It is easy to work with this material, besides, you do not need to purchase additional glue.

If you have long wanted to buy wooden wallpaper, but it didn’t work out, since they are not cheap, you can paste over ordinary plastic blinds with self-adhesive paper that imitates the texture of wood.

DIY wallpaper blinds: step by step instructions

Of course, in modern stores there is a fairly large variety of blinds. But if you don't find suitable option, then be sure to try to make them yourself. This is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Just follow step by step instructions and then everything will definitely work out.

We will prepare the following materials:

  • wallpaper;
  • pencil or pen;
  • centimeter;
  • thick thread;
  • scissors;
  • gypsy needle or awl;
  • Scotch;
  • cardboard;
  • Double-sided tape.

First you need to take measurements of the window and decide on what kind of blinds you want to make. Keep in mind that you definitely need to leave a fairly large allowance, as the wallpaper will become much shorter due to the accordion.

We make a mark on the wallpaper, based on the desired length and cut it off. Carefully fold the accordion so that the result is a fairly dense strip.

We make a mark exactly in the center - this will be the puncture site. This is necessary in order to skip the thread, which is designed to adjust the blinds.

We make a hole with a gypsy needle or awl. You can also try using a hole puncher. But if the harmonica is too big, then it is better to choose the first option.

We slightly straighten the accordion and thread a cord or a thick thread.

We fix the thread and tie a strong knot. For greater reliability, it can be fixed with a simple adhesive tape. Leave a small margin at the bottom. We also glue a piece of cardboard.

Glue a strip of double-sided tape for fastening.

We connect the edges of the accordion with tape.
