How to close the wiring in the apartment. Methodology for non-capital methods of hiding electrical wiring: methodology, analysis, recommendations

  • 20.06.2020

Before repairs, they usually think about working with electrical wiring, solving two interrelated problems: how and where to hide the wires in the apartment and how many sockets you need ? The preparation of this plan depends on many reasons, but without an idea of what, where and how the furniture will stand, it cannot be solved. Finland has very strict fire safety regulations, so at the request of friends who asked where we even have wires, if they are not visible in the photographs after the repair, showing the electrical work that we did at home, I must say that we did our best, so that, respecting the rules, our electrical wiring is laid in accordance with our personal ideas of comfort.

During the repair process, we partially replaced the electrical wiring, and hid the wires in special plinths for electrical wiring. And if you click on this photo, you can go to the post where I tell how they built in Finland 50 years ago, what we encountered during the repair process and specifically about the state of the electrical wiring before it.
And in this post I show all the wires and sockets in our apartment, and how they are hidden.

In the previous photo in the living room, a large flower covers the baseboard for electrical wiring and antennas and the socket, so we will move it and see how it's done.

Directly from the TV there is a single plinth, inside of which there is not only electrical wiring, but also an antenna, and from the outlet there is already a thinner plinth just for the antenna. The electric wire from the TV is plugged into an outlet with a regular plug.

We had to cut off a regular outlet from the extension cord and put in a smaller and flat one so that it would fit behind the TV, because we could not find a long cord for it. I already told about it, the distance from it to the wall is 2.5 cm.

The terrarium, because it stands sideways, could not be connected using a plinth, so the wire for it is ordinary white from an extension cord, but the plinth for the antenna ends and a piece of wire also sticks out, because we didn’t want to glue the plinth on the wallpaper, it’s ugly. And to do internal wiring in the wall is impossible according to local safety standards.

In the bedroom, I managed to twist the bottom around the mechanism so that they no longer roll on the floor, which I complained about in the post that they were too long.

There is a second outlet in the bedroom, which we do not use, but I did not remove it, because the curtain constantly closes it.

Inside the kitchen cabinet there is an outlet for the hood and with it light bulbs for light above the stove.

The main outlet in the kitchen above the desktop looks like this: for a kettle, coffee pot, tablet, and in general everything that needs to be charged.

I call an additional outlet in the kitchen a guest outlet, because friends and relatives visiting me plug computers into it and work in the kitchen. Also, a Christmas candlestick is stuck into it when it stands on the window in new year holidays. In the kitchen, my favorite flat sockets could not be installed either for safety reasons.

In the bathroom, the main socket is above the lamp, an electric toothbrush is connected to it, and it is also used for a hair dryer.

It would still be impossible to remove an additional outlet in the bathroom, and just in case, I left it: you never know, maybe when we buy a washing machine and a dryer.

A plinth for electrical wiring extends from the switchboard in the hallway washing machine and ovens.

It runs along the corner along the mirror and ends at the usual plinth. A hole was drilled from there and then it was laid behind the kitchen cabinet to dishwasher and electric oven.

I don’t like modern sockets, because they are convex and collect dust, so I didn’t replace those flat ones that were in the apartment.

This is the only outlet in the office, and the computer wires, unfortunately, lie on the table, but I still can’t imagine how to hide them. Collect dust, but regularly during cleaning I wipe them as needed.
The conclusion that I made for myself in the process of organizing and planning repairs: the main thing is not the number of sockets in the apartment, but their thoughtful use to connect the necessary household appliances, because electrical wires in the apartment collect dust and need to be hidden .
What do you think, friends?

It is completely ugly when, after repairing the premises, the wires are not hidden in the wall, but lie randomly on the floor or hang on the wall. They not only spoil the overall picture of the room, but can also lead to an accident. In some cases, you have to think about how to connect some kind of device and at the same time not spoil the design of the room. Of course, you should pay attention to how to hide the wires in the apartment.

Each house is connected to one or another household appliance, and in any case, the wires on the wall from these appliances can somehow catch the eye. This article will give detailed instructions on how to hide wires on the wall, in the wall and in the floor.

Hiding wires in the wall

First, with the help of a wall chaser, after removing the remnants of plaster and concrete, cut a strobe in the wall in which all the wires will be hidden. The wiring must be placed in a protective sheath - corrugation, which serves to protect against external adverse influences. Then the wires should be laid in the cut channels, after which the wall must be plastered.

To hide the wires in the wall, you have to break its integrity, and you often don’t want to do this, because the interior will suffer, in addition, the work is associated with dust and debris, and subsequently the wall must be reconstructed, which involves certain costs. Therefore, you can use other, more profitable methods in which you do not need to resort to wall chasing.

Wire on the wall

If you have an artistic taste, then you can fix the wire on the wall, making a picture out of it. It is quite clear that a native, one and a half meter wire is not enough for these purposes. Choose a suitable drawing, and transfer its contours to the wall, making a low-fat drawing with a simple pencil. Now you need to calculate the required amount of wire. To do this, you can attach a nylon thread to the wall so that it repeats the pattern. Then its distance can be measured. Do not forget to add the length from the drawing to the outlet and to the source of electricity consumption - add a meter in reserve and you will get the required amount.

Wire manufacturers most often do not indulge in an abundance of wire colors, so you have to choose from what is available - black or white. If these colors do not suit you, then you can buy an extension cord, which can be pink or red. Do not rush to rely on your opinion - try attaching a strip of colored fabric to the wall and you will immediately see if the chosen color suits and whether it will be in harmony with the overall environment.

If you decide to make everything simple, but tasteful, then you can fix the decor on the wire or come up with your own, something original.

Alternative Methods

You can find a different approach - mask the wires, not hide them, and this will help existing elements premises, for example door frames, plinths, ceiling baguette, as well as heating risers. With the right approach to work, the laying of wires can be made almost invisible, which will favorably affect the interior of the room. Usually low-voltage wires (internet and telephone) do not cause difficulties in laying, they can be hidden in baseboards, under metal thresholds or in platbands. When laying power cable a different approach is needed.

It is problematic to stretch power wires along the wall, as they are of large cross section and almost always white color which makes them stand out from the wall.

Often, all electrical communications in our time are laid by a hidden method, but due to various circumstances, such a laying option is not possible, for example, when, during repairs, it becomes necessary to install additional sockets or switches.

We hide the wire in the cable channel

Almost always in the house there is a section of wiring that needs to be driven into the wall or closed with a cable channel, which is a plastic box - it will protect the electrical wires from mechanical damage. The box has an attractive appearance and in this case it can be used as decorative element. This option is also a solution to fire safety problems.

Laying wires in the bathroom can be especially difficult when the walls and floor of the room are completely tiled. When available in the bathroom false ceiling wires can be hidden in it, and if this is not possible, then the cable channel will help in this situation.

It is not recommended to install sockets in the bathroom, and if you do not have an urgent need for this, give up this idea, limiting yourself to installing lighting fixtures. If you need an outlet, then take care of safety precautions, and the outlet must be waterproof.

Wiring on the floor

It is also worth paying attention to how the wires are laid on the floor. To date, special skirting boards are produced, in which a niche for the cable is structurally provided. The top panel of the plinth is removed, the cable is laid there, then it is put back in place. Advantage this method– convenience and dust-free operation. In such a plinth, you can hide both computer wires and a network cable.

Often wires from various chargers. In this case, you can do as in the photo - hide them in a box specially made for this. If you can offer your own method, then at the end of the article you can add a comment and attach a photo of your invention to it.

Floor wiring

If it is necessary to hide the wires in the floor, then with the help of a wall chaser or a puncher, a gate is made in concrete, the wiring is threaded into the corrugation and fits into this recess. Upon completion of the work, the installation site is leveled with a sand-cement mortar.

If your house has a wooden floor, then in order to conduct wiring under it, you will have to remove the boards, and live the cable in a metal pipe.

As a rule, the TV is placed on the wall in front of everyone, so the wire from the TV will be very noticeable to others. It is best to hide the wire in the wall, and make sockets behind the TV. For this purpose, a wall chaser is used in the wall, and if this is not the case, then a groove is made with a perforator, the wires are collected and laid in a corrugation. Then the wires with the help of special fasteners and brackets must be fixed in the strobe and plastered.

If you do not necessarily need to completely hide the wire, then it can be disguised.

All the subtleties associated with wiring in the house are best provided for at the stage of repairing the premises so that there are no problems later.

An extension cord with chargers constantly gets in the way on the table or under your feet, collects a lot of dust, and it looks unaesthetic. Dealing with this problem is very simple: take a nice box, make a few holes in it and hide all the wires and cables there.

There are also turnkey solutions, such as Plug Hub from Quirky. This is a box made of hard plastic with a rubberized bottom. There are three holes on the top for cables, and inside there are three fasteners, on which you can wrap extra long cords. Plug Hub can be placed on the floor or mounted on the wall.

2. Fix the wires under the tabletop

To fix the wires and extension cord under the table, you will need binders and screws (they must be at least a quarter less than the thickness of the tabletop in length, otherwise they will go through and the table will be damaged). First of all, fix the extension under the table top, preferably in the middle of the table or closer to the wall. Then fix the binders in the right places with screws. Connect everything you need to the extension cord and assemble the wires with clamps. Visually, the table has become much cleaner and neater.

There is an easier option if you don't need to hide a large number of wires. This will require construction stapler. To prevent the long wire from the lamp from dangling under your feet, carefully fasten it with paper clips at the table leg. A small extension can also be fixed with paper clips. For thicker wires, it is better to use special clamps (for example, these).

Do you like stapler staples? Regular zip ties will do. Secure the cable to the table leg with cable ties. The wires that run along the floor can be covered with plastic or a plank to match the color of the floor. The extension can be fastened under the tabletop with a wide Velcro: fix it with screws on reverse side countertops, and then attach the extension. To keep the wires from dangling under the table, run them through cable ducts - these can be purchased at any hardware store. You can fix the channels themselves with electrical tape or a regular plaster.

3. Organize cable storage

Get rid of the confusion in the wires will help them proper organization. To get started, collect cords from telephones, a player, game console, tablets. Then take the boxes (preferably prettier), place cardboard separators inside them, sign the place for each cable (so as not to get confused later) and lay everything out neatly. To avoid tangling the wires themselves, use ordinary ties.

If you don't feel like messing around with boxes, buy a basket and stock up on toilet paper rolls.

If the wires do not bother you, you can simply attach a label to each to make it easier to distinguish between them. For example, like this:

4. Keep all the necessary wires close at hand

Not all cables we can hide in a box: we need some of them almost constantly. The solution is simple: mount them on the edge of your desktop so that you can reach out and connect the device to the right wire if necessary. Sugru will help us with this - plasticine-rubber and one of the most indispensable things in the household. Don't believe? Then look.

Roll the Sugru into small balls and place on a table support. Then, with a clerical knife, remove some plasticine (carefully, try not to deform the balls much). Life hack: to prevent plasticine from sticking to the blade, pre-rinse it with soapy water. Then adjust the shape a little with a sushi stick or a toothpick to get neat hollows (they should be slightly wider than your wires). Everything is ready, you can fix the cables.

There is an option for those who know how to work with wood. A small block with holes will help organize all the wires on the desktop.

The simplest solution is to pass the wires through the binders attached to the tabletop.

5. Don't hide wires

Seriously, if you get creative, cables can be an interesting piece of decor.

It is important to understand that a TV is not only a screen. A huge number of different devices are connected to the TV device: speakers, subwoofer, laptop, receiver, etc. Add to this the power cord and antenna cable. It is not surprising that all users have a question, how to hide the wires from the TV on the wall, in the floor or decorate them?

Now let's look at 5 main ways to mask all the cords. Let's determine where it is better to hide the wires. Let's bring real examples with photographs that confirm that it is really possible to hide all communications.

into the wall

Hiding the cables is not difficult. Especially considering the fact that the disguise of various communications is a real trend in the world of interior design. Very often you have to pull the antenna cable through the entire apartment. This breaks the aesthetic picture. Therefore, new ideas on how to hide the wires from the TV will come in handy more than ever.

Remember that the antenna cable is not the only wire that connects to the TV device. Keep in mind that you also need to mask the power cord. many owners modern technology connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN connector. Add to this the HDMI cable used to connect additional devices.

To solve this problem, use floor plinths with cable channels. They allow you to hide the wires. What to do if the TV hangs on the wall? You will have to pull the cables out of the plinth to bring them to the TV. It is clear that such a solution can hardly be called optimal. Therefore, it is wiser to hide communications in the wall.

What is the easiest way out of this situation? Bundle the wires using nylon ties. Try to somehow disguise the cords. It is absolutely impossible to call this method ideal, but it has the right to life.

A fundamental, but very time-consuming solution is laying wires in strobes. You need to make special holes during the repair. Do not forget to equip the outlet for the TV on the wall. This is the most accurate and technological way. None of the guests will accidentally touch the wires. Also, the cords will be out of the reach of pets. All wires are displayed in a single console, which contains the necessary connectors.

To route wires along the strobes, it is not at all necessary to hammer the entire wall. Pull them up to the baseboard, and then hide them in it. The main disadvantage of this method is that it is suitable only for those owners of TV equipment who carry out repairs in their house or apartment.

How to hide wires in the wall under the TV if you have just finished finishing? The best solution is to decorate the cords, but we'll talk about this a little later. Now let's analyze how to hide communications for the TV on the wall.

To begin with, carefully consider where exactly the TV will be located. Mark the location of the device on the wall. The second stage is the choice of the bracket. This aspect is of great importance. Despite the global VESA standard, which includes the most popular mounting points, the brackets themselves are different forms and dimensions.

Think carefully about which type of bracket is best to choose. If the mount is too massive, it will interfere with switching. An incorrectly selected bracket size will cause the wires to fall out from behind the TV screen.

To make accurate measurements, you must first buy a TV. When the device is in your home, measure the dimensions, and then buy a special bracket. Try on the mount to the TV, measure the distance left to the edges - at this distance you need to make sockets.

The measurements taken must be transferred to the wall, and then you can get to work. With the help of a grinder, 2 vertical stripes in the wall. Their depth should be literally a few centimeters. The distance between the stripes is no more than three centimeters.

Hollowed out with a perforator inner part. This allows you to create full-fledged strobes. Make several holes using diamond core bits. They will have outlets. All the necessary outputs should be located here: power supply, cable for the antenna. Consider how many power outlets you will need. It depends on the amount of equipment connected to the TV.

On this the most hard work completed. Lay all the cords in the strobes made. Previously, all wires are fastened with plastic brackets. If this is not done, then they will constantly fall out, interfering with the subsequent wall decoration.

The ends of the wires must be connected according to the appropriate scheme with a socket. Then it must be installed in a specially designated place. Strobes should be closed gypsum plaster. Final stage - finishing. Install the bracket and also fix the TV on it. Connect all wires to TV.

To the floor

The second way is to hide the cords under the floor. Today, in hardware stores, you can easily buy special skirting boards equipped with a niche for cable masking. You just need to remove the outer panel, and then remove the wires into this space. Then put the panel back.

The main advantage of this option is efficiency, cleanliness, simplicity. Work takes a minimum of free time. To close the cords under the plinth, you do not have to gouge anything. No dirt, etc. Antenna and Internet cables can be placed under the plinth. With their help, other communications are also masked.

The antenna cable at the TV can be hidden on the floor, or rather under it. How can I do that? Take a puncher, and then make holes in the floor, which in fact will be intended for wires. Using the corrugation, make a protective layer, and then you can lay the cords.

When the installation is complete, level the floor using a mortar of sand and cement. If the apartment has a wooden floor, then you will need to dismantle the boards and place the wires in a metal tube.

in cable channel

A special box also allows you to hide the wires. However, this is a less aesthetic option. The user can make a cable channel on his own or buy it ready-made in a store. Hiding wiring in a box is much easier and faster than making special holes in the floor.

Having carefully studied the assortment of special stores, we come to the conclusion that several types of cable channels are offered to users. The easiest option is PVC boxes. We saw them all. This is an ordinary cable channel made of plastic. Most often they are found in white. The removable lid is held on by latches.

Is it possible to harmoniously fit a PVC box into the interior? This is possible, but only on condition that the color of the cable channel matches the interior palette of the room. It is important that it does not merge with the interior, but at the same time it does not look too catchy.

Perhaps the most rare variant- models made of MDF. Such boxes will harmoniously fit into classic interior, which contains wooden furniture and various interior items.

Metal cable channels are made mainly of aluminum. This product looks really impressive. The box will harmoniously fit into a futuristic interior.

In structure, all of the models listed above are very similar. They are fixed to the wall with special dowels or glue. Connections together with cords are hidden under a decorative overlay.

Sometimes it's much easier to make a cable channel yourself than to look for suitable option in shops. The quality of the product and its appearance directly depends on your skills and abilities. The type of material used is also important. Working with PVC is much easier than with metals.

Do you want something original and non-standard? You can make a cable channel from planed boards. The wires will be located between them. From above, the wires will be covered with a decorative overlay. As for the boards, they can also be painted in any color. What will make them not stand out from the overall picture of the interior.

Under furniture

Mostly we hide the wires behind the TV. It is clear that if you look closely, then all the cords will be noticeable. However, today you can buy special furniture that allows you to hide all communications.

To a greater extent, we are talking about TV cabinets. They are equipped with special holes in which wires can be placed. It is very comfortable. Not to mention the fact that the cables will not be visible, respectively, will not violate the interior design. Special headsets, which have a zone designed for installing a TV, also allow you to hide the wires.

Cable as an interior detail

Perhaps the easiest way is to decorate the wires beautifully. You can hide the cords behind living or artificial plants, original snags, curtains. To mask the wires, it is not necessary to make them invisible. Communications can be turned into an element of decor.

To decoratively "beat" the cables, you need to consider the style of the interior. Consider the most popular trends in design, as well as specific recommendations from professionals:

  • Loft - use special channels, presented in the form of laying out small bricks;
  • Classic interior - use additional wooden panels to mask the wires;
  • Hi-tech - you can hide the cords in metal pipes, fasten them to the wall with screws.

To achieve an impressive result, entrust this work to professionals. Not everyone has the right skills. Experts with experience in carrying out such work will be able to do everything efficiently and quickly.

If creative thinking is developed at the proper level, then you can do the decoration yourself. It is not necessary to buy additional expensive materials. Improvised funds will be more than enough. The method chosen must match the decor.

For example, if the length of the wires allows, then you can make a drawing or a geometric figure out of them on the wall. The main thing is that your composition harmoniously fits into the design of the room. First you need to make a sketch of the future drawing with a simple pencil. When the pattern is applied to the surface, you can decorate the wall with cables.

The method of fixing the wires is another very important point which needs to be considered in advance. For example, nails are absolutely not suitable for us, as they will damage the cord. It is better to choose tape or glue. This way of decorating is a very simple masking of cables.

What to do if the patterns and all kinds of ornaments do not fit into the interior or the wires are too short? Use additional piping to turn a regular cord into a decorative element. This method is especially relevant when it comes to children. You can use all sorts of stickers to hide the cables and keep the interior intact.

Disguising the cords running around the room is quite simple. The main thing is to dream up a little, using improvised means and some design techniques. Next, we will do the following - we will analyze separately how to hide the wires from the TV, computer and even the lamps on the wall!

TV and internet

It is not difficult to hide from the eyes of the network cable and television wires running through the room. It is best to use a special electrical plinth, which will go through the whole house to the bedroom or hall. If you don’t want to buy a new baseboard, you can carefully disguise a bunch of wires using special design stuff, like a picket fence, as in the photo below:

In order not to pull the Internet cable from front door to the bedroom, it is recommended to install wifi router at the entrance to the apartment (in the hallway). In this case, the network connection will be wireless and you will not have to pull the cable between rooms, through doorways and sills.

In addition, you can hide television wires in a cable duct, which is quite simply attached to the wall with self-tapping screws. To date, there are many that are suitable in color not only in an ordinary apartment, but also in a wooden house.

If the repair has already been done, then the most best solution there will be the use of decor elements - beautiful clips that will decorate the wires from the wall-mounted TV running along the floor and wall. You can also see an example of this method of solving the problem in the photo:

If you want to hide the cords from the TV during repairs, we recommend making a special niche for them in drywall, or vice versa, assemble a box:

In order not to ditch the walls, you can hide the TV and the Internet cable in the plinth, if you make it as shown in this video:

How to neatly remove the cable?

Well, the last way is to make a groove in the wall behind the plasma and run electrical wires through it. However, this is the most time-consuming option and is best avoided. Imagine that the TV will need to be hung on another wall, but you will have to think again how to hide the antenna cable.

As for the rest of household appliances - air conditioner, music center or even home theater, using the ideas listed above, you can disguise hanging wires using the same technique. The cable from the air conditioner is most often hidden in the cable channel, and from the home theater, the wires are allowed over the plinth, securing them with special clips.

Computer

Computer wires spoil the interior of the room very much, and if you dream a little, you can hide them quite nicely.

The first idea is to disguise all cords from the monitor, system block and a modem under the table cover, fixing them with clips on self-tapping screws or double-sided tape. This idea was clearly shown in the photo example:

You can see another easy way to hide everything superfluous under the table cover in this video tutorial:

How to remove extra cords from the "computer"?

Don't want to ruin the table? You can hide wires from computer equipment in a shoe box, decorating it in an original way to match the bedroom interior.

How to make such a box with your own hands, you can find out by watching this video:

How useful is a shoe box?

Besides original idea it is considered to buy a special cover for the extension cord, which is quite simply attached to the lid of the desk.

If the speaker cord bothers you, you can easily hide it in a suitable cover that is attached to the back of the table.

All extra cords, including charging, can be beautifully removed from the table using ordinary clips, as in the picture below:

Another idea is to thread the whole bunch of wires through the hose. In this case, the chaos under the table will hide in one single shell, which will not spoil the interior of the room or even the office so much.

Using all these tips, you can disguise electrical wires and make workplace more careful. It's not hard to just put the cords and cables in a box or secure under a table! In addition to the fact that in this way you will put things in order on computer desk, so also disguise allows you to protect the cords from dogs and cats who like to gnaw on chargers, headphones, etc.

Fixtures

If all the wiring from the chandelier is hidden in the lamp body, then the cord for hiding is a little more difficult. If the wall is bare, you can decoratively hide the hanging wire by building it up and making a drawing on the wall. You can see an example of such an idea in the photo:

If you are thinking about how to hide the wires from the sconce during repairs, it is best to connect the lamp from junction box and not through an outlet. In this case, all electrical wiring will hide under the plaster and wallpaper, and the interior will not be damaged. Do you want to do without shtrobleniye? Then hide all the excess in the cable channel running along the wall.

Hide the power supply from led strip can be in a special box, which is mounted under the ceiling and allows in the kitchen or in the hall.

That's all I wanted to say about this issue. We hope that you have got ideas for yourself on how to hide wires from a TV, computer and other household appliances so that it is beautiful.
