How to replace rubber bands on plastic windows yourself. Repair of plastic windows

  • 29.08.2019

At correct installation and finishing of slopes, PVC windows can fully perform their functions for up to 10 years. But more often, due to improper maintenance and operation, climatic factors or low-quality parts, the first problems appear after 3-5 years. However, they are quite expected and their decision can be attributed to the planned maintenance systems.

We make a diagnosis

The window consists of many elements, but the main, in the literal sense of the word, inconsistencies occur with the clamping elements - sashes and seals that make the window airtight.

The appearance of condensate and frost is a consequence of the loss of tightness of the window, therefore, it is required toreplacement of the seal plastic windows.

Adjustment of the fit of the sash to the frame It's a simple matter and you can handle it on your own. How - see below. That is, the first step is to make an adjustment, and if it does not help, then the cause of the problems lies in the seals located around the entire perimeter of the frame and sash.

Horizontal sash adjust with the same hexagon, but by turning other screws. The upper screw is tightened clockwise if the upper part of the sash needs to be moved towards the hinges. By analogy, they correct the lower part of the sash.

Vertically you can raise and lower the sash by turning the hexagon clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively.

Sash clamp can also be adjusted from the hinge side. For the lower corner, rotate the screw of the lower hinge, for the upper - the upper. In tilt-and-turn windows, before acting on the upper hinge, you need to open the sash, press the lock and turn the handle to ventilate.

Pressing degree frames and sashes are adjusted with a screw located near the handle. Depending on the type of fittings, a hexagon, screwdriver, pliers are used. For winter, the clamp should be strong (you need to turn it clockwise), for the summer - weakened (you need to turn it counterclockwise).

Experts advise lubricating hardware mechanisms at least once a year. To do this, you can use special window oils, machine oil, aerosol lubricants such as WD-40. Before processing, it is important to clean the elements from dust and dirt.

A few words about seals

Almost all PVC profile windows use EPDM seals. The abbreviation is derived from the names of the materials from which this synthetic rubber is made: ethylene, propylene, diene and monomer.
The seal is similar to a cord and has a tubular or more complex figured section, is resistant to temperature changes and the effects of chemicals, as well as ozone contained in the air. Therefore, a quality product can retain its properties for about 10-15 years.

It is best to use seals from a proven brand recommended by profile manufacturers. Doubtful products contain cheaper elements, leading to rapid drying of rubber, cracking and loss of elasticity. The service life of such seals is two to three times less, so the problem of replacing them may arise after 5 years of operation or even after a season. If the rubber structure is broken, it will not be possible to restore its properties - it will have to be changed.

Choice

For greater reliability, the replacement of the seal on plastic windows should be done by a specialist from the company that installed the window. Often, it is enough for the contractor to know the profile model in order to understand the type of sealant and its required amount. But even if you order the simultaneous maintenance of all windows (to save the cost of leaving the team), the overpayment will be considerable. Given the relative simplicity of the work, it can be done independently. The main thing is to choose the right gasket and carefully follow the instructions given in our master class. We repeat that to purchase material, it is better to contact the representative office of the manufacturer or the installer. If this option is not suitable, then "for identification" cut off a couple of centimeters of the seal and contact any PVC window shop.

Please note that installation requires solid strips of material, which means you need to buy large rolls. The latter will allow you to get the job done right and reduce waste.

To calculate the length, one must take into account the fact that despite the plasticity and elasticity of the material, it is mounted without any additional effort. That is, the seal should not stretch or create waves, which means that its bottom must fully correspond to the length of the gutter in which it will be installed. Therefore, measurements can be made using a simple thread and a construction tape measure.

E-profile is black. Price: 7.67 rubles/m.p.

D-profile White. Price: 17.85 rubles/m.p.

P-profile Brown. Price: 8.3 rub/m. P.

Replacement

Replacing the seal on plastic windows occurs after removing the old seal. New sealing rubber should be installed along the entire contour of the window frame and sash. To do this, use a solid piece of sealing rubber, scissors for cutting rubber and glue. The rubber seal without tension or compression is inserted into a special groove located in the sash and window frame, and then glued.

Operation and maintenance

Caring for PVC profile windows is easy thanks to their smooth surface. If the structure has just been installed, it is necessary to remove the protective film from the profile. If it has already been removed, and the window has been stained with whitewash and cement mortar, places of contamination should be cleaned so that the seals are not damaged.

It is advisable to always keep the window structure clean, but timely cleaning is especially important during construction and repair work.

To enhance the effect of the means used, you can:

  • rinse with water;
  • treat with a non-abrasive detergent;
  • treat with a household PVC cleaner;
  • treat with an industrial PVC cleaner.

For regular cleaning of windows, an ordinary soap solution or special detergents. Do not use cleaning powders, acetone and nitro thinners, which will damage window frames and seals.

To increase the service life rubber seals on PVC profile windows, they should be cleaned of dirt once or twice a year both from the outside and from the inside with an ordinary cleaning solution. After cleaning, it is necessary to treat the rubber with a pencil or spray based on neutral silicone grease or lubricate with plain machine oil.

It also needs to be free of contaminants. drainage channels at the bottom of the frame. As for mobile fittings, once a year they must be lubricated so that they open well. For the winter mosquito net It is recommended to remove and wash with soapy water.

Sealing gum for PVC windows is one of the most important structural elements responsible for the tightness of the sash against the frame. You can buy the most expensive window and install it using the most modern mounting tapes, but if the rubber contour is not in order, then drafts and heat loss will become constant companions of your home.

Many years of experience with metal-plastic windows allowed me to understand the features of the materials most often used for the manufacture of sealing contours. In addition, in one of the sections of this article I will tell you how to properly care for rubber bands, and how to replace them with your own hands if the circuit loses its tightness.

Why is it needed?

Sealing elements made of elastic materials are mandatory included in the package of PVC structures. As a rule, they are installed where the protrusion of the profile adjoins a flat surface - either to another profile, or to glass (or a material that fills, for example, a sandwich panel).

The main functions of the sealing circuit are as follows:

  1. Elastic material, located along the perimeter of the window opening, ensures maximum tightness of pressing the sash or double-glazed window to the frame.
  2. Due to the tight clamping, we get protection from precipitation and street noise penetration into the room.
  3. The absence of gaps, ensured by the presence of sealing gum, contributes to more efficient heat retention: heated air does not leave the room, therefore heat loss occurs only due to convection or radiation.
  4. Finally, the presence of a sealed circuit protects the fittings from external influences: the mechanisms that drive the sash and ensure the locking of the structure are isolated from moisture and dust, and therefore last much longer.

As you can see, the list of functions is quite extensive. At the same time, a fairly simple part is responsible for their implementation, which is installed in a special groove on the profile directly during its production.

However, despite all its simplicity, seals can also be different.

Main varieties

Type 1. Rubber/Rubber

The most common are just rubber (rubber) elements. They began to be used in the very first plastic windows, but now many manufacturers prefer them:

  1. The basis of the material is rubber, which is vulcanized using sulfur under the influence of hard ultraviolet radiation.
  2. Also, carbon black is added to the composition of the material, which ensures the preservation of the elasticity of the product.

Black rubber inserts are stronger and more durable than painted ones. First of all, it is due to the high content of gas soot.

  1. The advantages of rubber products include the preservation of elasticity during temperature changes (even in very coldy), mechanical strength and low tendency to deformation.
  2. The disadvantage of rubber, in fact, is one - not everyone likes black contours, especially around a double-glazed window.

Type 2. Silicone

Silicone is another material that is used to seal PVC windows. Its advantages are obvious:

  1. Maintaining flexibility in the temperature range from -40 to +1500C.
  2. Complete absence of volatile toxic substances.
  3. Minimal deformation even with prolonged exposure to load.

At the same time, contours made of silicone cord also have disadvantages:

  1. The price of the material is quite high (higher than that of rubber).
  2. Silicone breaks relatively easily, so the reason for replacing the circuit is usually not its wear over time, but mechanical damage.

Type 3: Plastic polymers

Synthetic polymers are the largest group of materials used for the purposes described in the article. The three most commonly used compounds I will describe in the table below:

Material Peculiarities
PVC Polyvinyl chloride is the cheapest composition, while it is massively used in the manufacture of windows that are installed in heated residential premises. It differs from PVC used in the manufacture of the profile by greater elasticity (less hardener, more additional components).

An unpleasant feature of PVC contours is their tendency to harden in the cold: when supercooled, the elasticity of the material decreases, due to which the density of pressing the sash to the frame decreases.

The service life does not exceed 5 years, but I would recommend changing the seals at least once every three years.

TPE Thermoplastic elastomer is a synthetic polymer with good performance properties.

In the cold, it does not "dube", but behaves like high-quality rubber, in the heat it fits snugly to the surface.

It is used relatively infrequently, due to the complexity of the production of the material. But at the same time, the share of TPE products on the market is gradually growing.

EPDM Ethylene-propylene diene monomers are also produced synthetically. As a result of the processing of organic raw materials (as a rule, these are polymer production wastes), the material acquires good elasticity and high mechanical strength. Due to the high level of vulcanization, the contour does not crack even when under load for a long time.

Service life - 15-20 years.

Type 4. Filled polyethylene

Polyethylene (or rather, polyethylene foam) seals are also sometimes used for plastic windows. Foam rubber and other porous materials act as a filler for such products.

However, the performance of such products is relatively low:

  1. The elasticity of the material does not last long, while after a long stay in a compressed state (with the sash closed), the contour rather slowly restores its shape.
  2. With prolonged hypothermia, the material becomes rigid and may crack - either spontaneously or under load.
  3. Finally, the strength of polyethylene foam products is also low: they tear easily, and are almost impossible to repair - you have to change it completely.

Taking into account these features, polyethylene with various fillers is used only as an additional seal.

Installation and care

How to care for the sealant?

In order for the window to maintain its tightness, and we do not encounter such problems as missing pressure or the appearance of drafts, both rubber and polymer inserts need to be looked after. Care consists in periodic cleaning of the product and applying various lubricants to their surface to help maintain performance.

Let's try to figure out how to lubricate rubber bands on plastic windows is possible, and what is not worth it?

  1. It is best to purchase a special tool for rubber, PVC or EPDM. Most often it is included in the window care kit, but you can buy it separately.

  1. Any neutral silicone-based lubricant will also work. Moreover, in terms of quality, it will not be inferior to special equipment, and at a price it will come out cheaper.
  2. WD-40 is also suitable, but it is expensive. It makes no sense to buy specifically for windows, but if there is a can in the workshop, then why not use it?
  3. Glycerin / Vaseline is a budget solution. The main disadvantage is that they dry out quickly and do not tolerate low temperatures very well. To maintain the effect, it is worth repeating the treatment more often.

The list of what to lubricate the sealing circuit will be more extensive. I would say that you should not use automotive, weapon and vegetable oils, products with abrasives, as well as compounds containing alcohols and acids.

Care instructions are quite simple:

  1. Open the sash, then wipe all the gum with a cloth or sponge dipped in soapy water.
  2. After removing all contaminants and remnants of the old grease, wipe the seal dry.

  1. Lubrication is first applied between the petals of the contour (if it has a complex structure), and then sprayed over the entire surface.
  2. With a brush or swab, distribute the lubricant along the contour.
  3. We erase the remnants of oil that have fallen on the front of the profile or double-glazed window.

Processing should be carried out at least twice a year: in March-April before the start of the summer season, and in October-November before the start of the winter season.

Replacement of the sealing circuit

Sometimes care and prevention do not help, and we have to figure out how to change the seal by installing a new elastic element.

To carry out the replacement with our own hands, we need:

  • new material (the length of the segment must be appropriate);
  • scissors;
  • adhesive for polymers;
  • rolling roller.

We perform the work according to the following algorithm:

  1. First, remove the worn rubber band by carefully prying it out and removing it from the groove.
  2. We clean the grooves from dust and dirt. To do this, you can use a special brush that is included in the window care kit, but I limit myself to an old toothbrush. After cleaning, wipe the groove with a rag.

  1. Apply some glue to the corners of the frame.
  2. We take a piece of sealing cord, lay one edge in a corner and press it for primary fixation with glue.
  3. Then we insert the cord into the groove and press it in until the part intended for fastening is completely recessed into the recess.
  4. We insert the cord along the entire length of the groove, if necessary, rolling it with a special roller. The material should lie flat, without gaps.

The contour must be tried to be closed, without cuts in the cord. To do this, before replacing, I carefully examine the groove at the corners - usually the influx of plastic formed during welding is removed even during the manufacture of the window, but a couple of times I had to cut the PVC myself.

  1. Cut off the excess and glue the second end of the cord end-to-end with the first.

From the first time, the task may seem difficult, but in practice, even beginners understand how to install a new rubber band correctly, in just a few minutes.

Conclusion

Figuring out how to lubricate rubber bands on plastic windows and how to replace them is not difficult at all. At the same time, it is imperative to know this, since a modern window requires maintenance, and the microclimate in the room largely depends on the state of the sealing circuit.

The video in this article will help you understand the details, in addition, you can always seek advice in the comments to this material, as well as in the appropriate section on the forum.

Replacing the seal on plastic windows with your own hands is done in most cases without problems. This is a simple procedure that anyone can handle. Next, we will consider all the features of this operation.

The sealing of the double-glazed window depends on the sealant. You can understand that it is out of order if the following factors began to appear:

  • The window began to freeze through - frost appears inside.
  • There is condensation on the glass. This is due to the fact that the sashes began to close poorly.
  • The rubber has worn out. This is due to a too long operating period.
  • A draft began to circulate in the room. It appears as a result of depressurization.

If at least one of these factors appears, the replacement of rubber bands on plastic windows should be carried out immediately.

What are the varieties

Many people wonder which window seal is better? To answer this question, you should know all its varieties. They differ not only in external features, but also in the materials from which they are made. The most popular options are:

  1. Rubber (produced by vulcanization of rubber with the addition of sulfur). In the recent past, the most popular variety. With an affordable price, such an element is able to seal all joints
  2. EPDM (from various polymer compounds). Operational period - 20 years. It is characterized by high resistance to atmospheric factors (does not crack even at very low temperatures).
  3. Silicone. Can last up to 40 years. Used for both residential and commercial industrial premises. The main advantage is absolute environmental friendliness. Does not lose its properties even with sudden changes in temperature. Resistant to UV rays, oxygen and ozone.
  4. TPE (thermoplastic elastomers). Created as a result of the improvement of its silicone "brother". Possesses the increased operational characteristics. Now this is the most popular category.
  5. PVC. Such an element will last no more than 3 years due to modest specifications. However, it can only be used in warm rooms. The only advantage is the very low price.

Maintenance rules that will increase the operational period

Timely lubrication of the window seal prolongs its life several times. Despite the fact that this element is made of very high quality and durable materials, it still wears out over time. To make this happen as late as possible, special lubricants are used that protect the element from the harmful effects of external factors.

How to lubricate seals? There are several options that are excellent in their cost and effectiveness:

  • Glycerin is the most cheap option. This colorless liquid is sold in a pharmacy and costs around 20 rubles. It is excellent for lubricating PVC surfaces, coating them with an invisible protective film. A significant drawback is that glycerin dissolves in water, so there are no waterproofing properties.
  • Petrolatum. This is a universal lubricant that covers the surface with a transparent layer. However, it can only be used for rubber models. Vaseline softens them, making them more pliable. It is completely hydrophobic, so the material will be perfectly protected from moisture. The only negative is the small operating temperature range from -25 to +28 degrees. In most regions of our country, the climate is harsher, so Vaseline will not last long.
  • WD-40. The most popular lubricant in the world, which is used in all areas. It is based on mineral oil, which protects the surface from moisture. The presence of carbohydrates in the composition reduces viscosity. WD-40 is sold in spray cans, so it is convenient to use.

Interesting: WD-40 was developed to protect cases spaceships against corrosion and other external factors.

We make the replacement correctly and without consequences

  • Having bought a tape that suits you, we stock up on special glue. You will also need rubber scissors.
  • Remove worn tape. This is easy to do - with a slight effort, it is pulled out of the grooves.
  • Next, we clean the original surface. It is necessary to completely get rid of dust and dirt in order to ensure maximum adhesion of the adhesive. Ideally degrease the surface. To do this, we use alcohol, white spirit, solvent or other similar substances.
  • Then evenly coat the perimeter of the frame with glue. Then we insert a new seal necessarily entirely. If you have never done this before, we advise you to practice doing it without glue first, as many people have problems at this stage. Do not pull the tape or over-compress it - it must be in a free state.
  • Having laid the tape correctly, cut off the excess. Lubricate additionally the junction.

Perform this procedure regularly to ensure a good indoor climate.

High-quality sealant for plastic windows will also help to reduce operating costs indoors. How to choose the optimal model and install the product without the help of professional performers, we will tell in today's review.

First you need to determine what funds and labor resources you are willing to allocate to solve the problem. To do this, it is necessary to correctly evaluate, which will be improved after the successful implementation of the project:

  • Replacing the seal on plastic windows will restore the lost tightness. Costs will decrease in winter and to a comfortable level in summer.
  • Dust will not penetrate from the street. This is an effective preventive measure that prevents the occurrence of allergic reactions. An additional "plus" is the reduction in costs for.
  • Noise reduction has a positive effect on the human psyche. It is especially important to monitor this parameter for urban residents who are forced to take into account adverse environmental conditions.
  • The soft pad acts as a damper. It prevents excessive shock loads on the structure.

For your information! A reliable seal will prevent water from entering metal fittings for plastic windows, which will eliminate corrosion processes.

Replacing the fastening elements of a double-glazed window is a complex technological operation. It is better to entrust it to the specialized specialists of the window company, which will give official guarantees after installation is completed.

How to determine the need for new sealing elements

It is difficult to imagine a situation where the wind blows papers from giant slots. However, a noticeable draft can determine the presence of problems. Unfortunately, this technique is the most effective. At low temperatures, it is difficult to perform installation operations. Adhesives are poorly fixed. The risk of disease increases.

Do-it-yourself replacement of seals on plastic windows is best done in the warm season. In addition to drafts, the following evidence confirms its necessity:

  • Accumulation of condensate near frames, on window slopes.
  • The appearance in the same places of colonies of microorganisms, fungi, mold.
  • More dust on compared to other horizontal surfaces in the room.
  • Cracks, deformation, other visible damage and a significant deterioration in the softness of the seal.

The following verification methods are also useful:

  • Application of chalk or other easily washable coloring matter to the sealant. After such processing, the sashes are closed and opened. Defective areas are determined by interrupting the line.
  • Insert a sheet of paper, close the frame. With a tight fit of the sealing elements, this test fixture cannot be removed.
  • The movement of the air flow is recorded by the oscillation of an open flame (candles, lighters, matches).

For your information! You can increase your own sensitivity by wetting your hands. They are carried out along the contour, fixing the places of penetration of air from the outside. This method is most effective in winter with strong winds.

Advantages and disadvantages of different materials

To determine with the right choice it is necessary to formulate requirements for a sealant for plastic windows. This product must have plasticity, which is maintained at low temperature. Useful durability, resistance to moisture and mechanical stress. In the process of exploring alternative options, you should check the installation technology and the ability to perform the necessary actions on your own.

Rubber seals for plastic windows

The low price of seals for plastic windows made of this material is a significant advantage. The use of such products will make it possible to modernize a large property with minimal cost. However, one must take into account the limited strength, relatively short service life. Over several seasons, rubber sealing elements lose their flexibility and become brittle.

Features of a PVC window seal made of synthetic rubber

To improve the consumer characteristics of products in this category, manufacturers use special additives, create different types synthetic materials. Quite successful is the combination of EPDM, or "SKEP" ("EPDM" - in Latin transcription).

It is a rubber based on copolymers. It contains ethylene, propylene, diene, special catalysts. This combination provides increased resistance to oxygen, water, and other atmospheric influences. The seal for plastic windows EPDM is not damaged by oil, aggressive chemical compounds. It can be safely used with household detergents. It retains consumer characteristics in a wide temperature range (from -50°C to +140°C), so it can be used in different latitudes without restrictions. Synthetic rubber has a high tensile strength, is not damaged by stretching when the original length is increased by 300% or more.

A more thorough study forces to give preference to products made using organic peroxides. They are used in technological process vulcanization. Cheap modifications that are made with the addition of sulfur can leave unpleasant yellow prints on the flawless white surface of PVC window frames.

Thermoplastic TPE seals

These products are often used by manufacturers of plastic windows to complete their products. The special abbreviation TPE stands for polyvinyl chloride, which is modified with special additives. Polyethylene, rubber and other components provide increased resistance of thermoplastic elastomer to various types negative external influences.

EPDM plastic window seal is only suitable for gluing. This is enough to assemble the structure at home. But on an industrial scale, it is more convenient to use welding. For this, the products presented in this section of the article are suitable. They cost a little less. Specialized additives provide non-flammable properties. It should be noted that the broad color scheme in which you can easily choose the optimal shade.

For objectivity, it is necessary to list the shortcomings compared to the previous options:

  • limited elasticity;
  • change of the initial form in the mode of intensive exploitation;
  • noticeable deterioration technical parameters at extremely low/high temperatures.

Important! Plastic window seal made of thermoplastic polymer suitable for use in sensitive climatic conditions. It will retain functionality for a long time with not too frequent opening / closing of the valves. When choosing, you should pay attention to the latest modifications with improved consumer characteristics.

Silicone window seal

Products in this category remain elastic at -60°C. They can be found without damage long time under elevated conditions. They are not destroyed by aggressive chemical compounds. During installation and during use, one should take into account the relatively low resistance to mechanical stress. However, with careful handling, long-term operation without complaints from users is quite acceptable. The only significant limitation is the high cost compared to the analogues discussed above.

Advantages of combined modifications

The correct use of different materials in one product allows you to eliminate some of the shortcomings while maintaining the best parameters:

  1. Foamed polyurethane has excellent, but little strength.
  2. It is protected from ultraviolet radiation and mechanical damage by a layer of polyethylene.
  3. The power frame of the product is made of durable fiberglass threads.

Such a seal for plastic windows prevents heat leakage and prevents the penetration of noise from the street. It maintains tightness in strong gusts of wind, designed to maintain integrity after hundreds of thousands of opening / closing cycles. It is difficult to damage even with a strong load. Manufacturers of such products establish long-term warranty obligations.

For your information! The presence of polyethylene elements in the design somewhat reduces the upper limit of operating temperatures (no more than +60°C).

Differences in products by type of installation and other parameters

Such products are not difficult to install. The corresponding surface of the window unit is cleaned of dirt and grease. After removing the shipping paper tape, the sealant is pressed using medium force. After a few seconds, normal operation is possible. If there is no such layer, you have to create it yourself using a suitable adhesive solution.

This model is designed to equip wooden. A special protrusion (1) is inserted into the groove to create a secure connection without glue. This solution speeds up assembly, implies the possibility of simple and quick dismantling. Curly elements (2) are created in accordance with the parameters of adjacent parts to ensure high-quality joining. The cavity (3) in the structure improves heat and sound insulation.

How to replace the seal in a plastic window with your own hands: step by step instructions with comments

A photo Basic actions with comments

Do-it-yourself replacement of seals on plastic windows is done only after all problems with fittings have been resolved. If it is not provided around the entire perimeter, then the modernization will not be effective.

New elements are installed on the frame and sash. They perform their functions in a complex, so an “economical” replacement of only one of the circuits will not work. The second rule - the sash must be removed. Otherwise, problems will arise when installing the plastic window seal near the hinges.

An adhesive joint is used at the junction. If you leave a gap, the seal will be broken. The corresponding defect will increase with time as the seal deforms.

For dismantling, remove the decorative cap, remove the "finger" from the upper loop. Remove the sash, install on a suitable surface. In this position, part of the attachment unit (1) can be moved forward, which provides free access to difficult area (2).

After removing the old product, the freed surface is cleaned, glue residues, grease and other contaminants are removed. Next, use a specialized sealant for the valves. Frame modifications are structurally different.

In this example, the frame is created with a mounting slot. Glue is not needed here. However, only a seal with a special curly protrusion is suitable. It is inserted into the recess by hand, without tools. Carefully align the protruding parts.

After completion of this stage, the "scissors" with the loop are set to the working position. The edges of the sealant for plastic windows are glued.

Now you can move on to equipping the frame. Dismantle old products.

To create a new circuit, a specialized "frame" seal is used. As a rule, it has a large width. Take into account the official recommendations of the manufacturer so that the non-symmetrical product is installed in the desired position.

Carefully, without undue tension, insert the seal in the corners. As in the previous stage, irregularities are removed, joints are glued together. Next, put the sash in place, check the functionality. To extend the service life, experts recommend treating the installed products with a silicone-based lubricant.

For your information! The cost of replacing the seal in plastic windows is not high. But to it must be added transport, adjustment and other additional costs in accordance with the current price list of the service company. Similar actions can be performed independently without errors after careful study. step by step instructions and additional recommendations.

Features of installing sealing elements in wooden windows

A sealant is inserted into the created recesses for wooden windows according to the method discussed above. At the final stage, the performance of the structure is checked.

The main difference in this case is the material of the window unit. Wood products deform when humidity and temperature change. Cracks form in them. Modern structural elements are created with deep protective impregnation. Separate parts are installed perpendicularly to prevent the mentioned defects.

For your information! Self-adhesive models are not used to equip wooden window blocks. They are not able to ensure the long-term preservation of the integrity of the connection.

Manufacturers popular in the domestic market

To improve the competitive position, "window" brands create unique seals for plastic windows. However, there are also universal products in this category on the market. When choosing, in addition to design compatibility, it is necessary to take into account specific operating conditions, owner reviews.

Veka

Another German manufacturer has been selling similar products for over four decades. Positive feedback from ordinary consumers and craftsmen confirm high level quality that has withstood the test of time.

For your information! The actual service life of the seal for plastic windows is determined by the manufacturer's recommendations, the features of the application mode. Products of the average price category of different trademarks must be changed every 6-7 years.

KBE

Important! Installation of a sealant for plastic windows of this brand is recommended to be carried out using a special tool. He presses the gasket gently with precisely metered force. The use of such a device prevents marriage and speeds up work operations.

Schlegel

Schlegel combined seals are made of foamed polymer with a protective and decorative shell. Built-in fiberglass thread reinforces the structure. Sellers report that such products retain good performance up to 20 years old.

Replacing the seal in plastic PVC windows necessary if you begin to feel a draft in the room.

Window gum is a special material that ensures the tightness of the junction of the sashes to the frames. With active use, the seal is subject to mechanical damage and rapid wear.

Also, the window seal, regardless of whether it is rubber, silicone or rubber, loses over time

elasticity, as a rule, needs to be replaced after 7 - 10 years of operation of windows.
