Step 1. Take measurements

First of all, you need to measure the window and calculate the dimensions.

If you chose the first option, then the height of the curtain is measured from the upper slope of the window to the window sill.

To calculate the exact width, you need to measure the window opening in three places, as it may be uneven. The smallest value obtained must be taken as a basis and subtract another 2 cm from it so that the curtain passes easily and does not rub against the slope.

Outside the opening

In the second case, to determine the height of the curtain, you need to decide at what level from the window niche the cornice will be located. Mark the top attachment point of the eaves and measure down to the window sill. This will give you the final height.

There are two ways to get the width:

take as a basis the width of the window sill
or measure the width of the window opening and add 12 cm to it.

Select either of these two measurement options to get the curtain width.

Step 2. We count the number and height of the folds

Now that you have the height and width of the future curtain, you can do all the calculations.

Usually 5 to 9 folds are made depending on the height of the curtain. But if necessary, you can make any odd number.

Calculation example:

Curtain height: 124 cm
Top margin: 5cm

The amount of fabric for pleats: 124 - 5=119 cm

divide by 3: 119: 3 = 39.6 cm
divide by 5: 119: 5 = 23.8 cm
divide by 7: 119: 7 = 17 cm
divide by 9: 119: 9 = 13.2 cm

The calculation shows that 7 sections of 17 cm will look best.

For 7 sections, 3 rods are required.

Step 3. Calculate the amount of fabric for the front side

The length of the fabric for the front side = the length of the finished curtain + 5 cm for the top turn + 9 cm for the bottom turn.

Step 4. Calculate the amount of lining fabric

The cut width of the lining material will be equal to the width of the finished curtain. This is due to the fact that when the curtain is ready, the width of the lining, taking into account the folds along the edges, will be a little narrower. Therefore, additional centimeters do not need to be added.

The length of the lining is calculated taking into account pockets for twigs and hem at the top and bottom.

Lining length = length of the finished curtain + 2 cm for top hem + 2 cm for bottom hem + 2.5 cm for each twig pocket.

For example, if you should have 3 twigs, then you will need to add 7.5 cm.

Step 5: Preparing the Lining

Cut the lining fabric to size and iron it well.

Then measure 2 cm on each side, fold them inward and iron the hem.

Measure with a ruler the places where the pockets for the twigs should be. Step back from this line 1.25 cm (half of 2.5 cm) and draw a second one. Along this line, you will need to make a line to form a pocket.

Fold the fabric along the line where the pocket should be. Sew the lining along the second line. Thus, you should get a pocket for a twig. Repeat this with the remaining pockets.

Step 6. Preparing the front side

Cut the fabric to size for the front side and iron well. Bend on the sides and top 5 cm, and bottom 9 cm. Iron the folds.

Step 7: Sew on Velcro Tape

In order for the curtain to be easily removed from the eaves, a special Velcro textile tape is used.

Sew the ribbon on the right side of the fabric just above the fold line.

Step 8. Connecting the lining to the front side

Lay the lining on top of the fabric for the front side. The lining should be 2 cm on the sides to recede from the edges. Secure the fabric with pins. Check with a ruler if the pockets match with front side.

Fold the lower part of the facial fabric in half so that a pocket for the weighting agent is formed. From above, cover the formed pocket with a lining.

Sew the lining to the face fabric by hand using a hidden seam.

Sweep the corners, but so that there is room for inserting the weighting agent.

The lining in the corner should not be completely sewn on. This will make it possible to insert and pull out the weighting agent.

Step 9: Sew on the Rings
