The water heating time depends on the power of the heating element and on the volume of the water heater.

The heating time of a water heater with a capacity of 15 liters with a heating element (heater) of 1.2 kW from 15°C to 60°C is approximately 45 minutes.
The heating time of a water heater with a capacity of 100 liters with a heating element (heater) of 1.5 kW from 15°C to 60°C is approximately 3 hours 50 minutes.

Principle of operation and main elements

The water in the water heater is heated to the set temperature. When you open a faucet hot water to the water heater through the supply pipe cold water cold water begins to flow. Cold water coming from below displaces previously heated water through the hot water pipe coming from the top of the unit. Thus, hot water, starting from the top of the tank, enters the consumer, and the bottom of the water heater is filled with cold water.

The thermostat is activated and the heating element (heater) starts heating the water again to the set temperature. In thermoelectric models, water heating in the water heater can also be carried out using a built-in coil, which is connected to the heating system.

The main elements of the water heater are:

The electrical connection must be carried out in accordance with the rules in section "2.3. Electrical connection".
The safety valve included in the scope of supply must not be plugged or replaced.
Installation is recommended to be carried out by qualified personnel.

For ease of installation directly under the sink, the 10 l and 15 l models, which have the letter "S" in the designation, have a pipe supply from above.

To reduce heat loss along the length of the pipes, the device should be installed as close as possible to the point of hot water extraction. To facilitate the maintenance of the device, leave space for free access to electrical parts (approximately 0.5 m).

For water heaters large capacity(from 200 liters), which have a recirculation outlet, in the case of remote hot water extraction points, it is recommended to organize recirculation.

Water heater mounting

A) Models with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters inclusive

Attach the supplied bracket to the wall. The fittings must support twice the weight of the water heater filled with water.

Slide the heater onto the tabs of the bracket and, pressing down slightly, fit onto them.

C) Wall-mounted models with a capacity of 50 to 200 liters inclusive

The wall mount brackets must be capable of supporting three times the weight of the heater filled with water. It is recommended to use metal fasteners with a diameter of 10 mm (screws, screws, hooks, etc.)

Floor installation

Floor water heaters from 200 to 500 liters are installed only on the floor and have legs included in the delivery. To prevent the appliance from tipping over, install the feet symmetrically so that the weight of the water heater is evenly distributed over the three support points. Fix the legs by screwing them to the walls of the water heater.

Connection to the water supply system

The hoses and connections connected to the water heater must be able to withstand both operating pressure and a temperature of at least 80°C.

Standard connection

With a standard connection, the water heater operates at a pressure determined by the pressure in the line.

Connection of the inlet pipe of the water heater to the water supply system is carried out through the safety valve included in the delivery set.

For ease of maintenance, when connecting to the water supply system, it is recommended to add a tee outlet between the inlet pipe of the water heater and the safety valve, to which to connect a tap to drain water from the water heater (in order to avoid accidental openings, it is better if it is opened with a special key).

Do not use too much force when screwing in the safety valve to avoid breakage.

The safety valve has two functions:

allows water to pass in only one direction (is a non-return valve)
at pressures above 8 bar, it bleeds water through the hole on the side (calibrated to 8 bar)

The appearance of water droplets from the opening of the safety valve during water heating is natural process and is associated with the expansion of water in the tank when heated.

Under no circumstances should the valve opening be blocked!

If the water pressure in the line exceeds 5 bar (atmospheres), a pressure reducer should be installed after the water meter.

Connection "with open outlet"

When using an electric water heater for one point of consumption, it is possible to use an "open outlet" scheme.

To do this, use the appropriate valves and connect according to the diagram in fig. 2 in the instruction manual.

The installation of a safety valve is not mandatory, but to prevent the return of water to the water supply system, its installation is still desirable.

Note. This scheme is rarely used, since it is impossible to use a standard mixer.

Connection to an open water tank (cottage option)

If water enters the water heater by gravity from the tank, then the tee for distributing water from the tank to the water heater and other needs must be higher than the top point of the water heater.

Electrical connection

The power supply is connected directly to the thermostat terminals using a cable of rated cross section (e.g. three-wire copper cable 3x1.5 mm²), while grounding is mandatory. The ground wire is connected to the terminal with the symbol.

The supply cable must be led through the hole at the back of the machine and connected to the thermostat terminals and the earth terminal.

B) For models with a capacity of 50 to 500 liters inclusive, the supply cable is connected to the thermostat terminals and the earth terminal through the provided hole in the plastic cover of the water heater. Attach the cable to the cover using the clip provided.

To disconnect the heater from the mains, use a two-pole switch (preferably an automatic switch) with a distance between open contacts of at least 3 mm (power cable and two-pole switch are not included in the delivery set).

Make sure that the mains voltage corresponds to the value indicated on the name plate of the heater (nameplate).

Turn on and work

Commissioning

Make sure the heater flange is centered. If it moves slightly, correct its position by loosening and tightening the nut(s).

Immediately before switching on, fill the water heater with water by opening the cold water supply valve and the hot water valve to expel the air. After filling the water heater, close the hot water faucet, inspect the machine to make sure it is not leaking. Turn on the water heater. For models with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters, it is necessary to turn on the switch directly on the device itself.

The control thermostat controls the operation of the machine.

In heating mode, the indicator light is on.

The cold water inlet pipe may become hot during operation.

Before each subsequent use, make sure that the water heater is filled with water by opening the hot water tap and making sure that water flows.

Temperature control

For the thermostat maximum setting temperature ranges from 68 to 75°C.

The temperature can be adjusted by turning the knob connected to the thermostat (for models with this knob) or by turning the thermostat adjusting screw with a screwdriver (for models without a knob, to do this, remove the plastic cover).

It is recommended to set the regulator to position "E". In the absence of an external regulator, this is approximately 75% of the maximum. In this case, the device operates in an economical mode, significantly, the rate of scale formation is reduced.

A) For models with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters inclusive

An increase in temperature is achieved by turning the screw clockwise, and a decrease - counterclockwise.

C) For models with a capacity of 50 to 500 liters inclusive

Decreasing the temperature is achieved by turning the screw clockwise and increasing it counterclockwise (as shown graphically on the heating level indicator or marked with "+" and "-" signs).

If the water heater is left unattended for a long time, disconnect the water heater from the electrical network and turn off the tap in the cold water supply line.

Shutdown for the winter

If the water heater is not used for winter period(for example, in a country house), all the water must be drained to prevent freezing of the water in the water heater.

To do this, disconnect the water heater from the electrical network, turn off the tap in the cold water supply line, open the tap on the outlet pipe and drain the water from the inlet pipe (by unscrewing the safety valve or opening the tee tap).

Models 10 UR and 15 UR must be removed from the wall and turned over to drain the water.

Replacing the thermostat and indicator light

A) For models with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters inclusive

To gain access to the thermostat, unscrew and remove the front cover of the water heater.

The thermostat is removed after unscrewing the two fixing screws (without draining the water from the tank).

To replace a faulty indicator bulb, remove the thermostat by unscrewing the two fixing screws, disconnect the terminals and unscrew the bulb from the socket.

B) For models with a capacity of 50 to 500 liters inclusive

To gain access to the thermostat, unscrew and remove the plastic cover of the water heater. The thermostat is removed from the terminals of the heating element with a slight effort (without draining the water from the tank). To replace a faulty indicator bulb, after removing the plastic cover, disconnect the terminals and remove the bulb from the socket.

On models with a capacity of 500 l, the adjustment knob must be removed before removing the plastic cover; remove the thermostat from the mounting plate by unscrewing the mounting screws, remove the sensors from the sleeve.

Replacing the heating element

The water heater must be emptied before working on the heating element. To do this, turn off the tap in the cold water supply line, open the tap on the outlet pipe and drain the water from the inlet pipe (by unscrewing the safety valve or opening the tee tap).

Models 10 UR and 15 UR must be removed from the wall and turned over.

A) For models with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters inclusive (And models SG 50, 80, 100)

Remove the front plastic cover;
Disconnect the power terminals and the ground terminal, unscrew the nut;
Remove the flange holder, then, holding the bolt with pliers, press the flange inwards;
Now the flange can be pulled out by turning it 900;
When reinstalling everything, make sure that the flange gasket, thermostat and heating element are installed correctly.

B) For models with a capacity of 50 to 500 liters inclusive (except models SG 50,80,100)

Remove the plastic cover;
Disconnect the power and ground terminals;
When fixing the flange with five bolts, unscrew the bolts and remove the flange;
When fixing the flange with a clamp and a bolt, unscrew the nut and, pressing on the flange with a movement directed towards the inside of the apparatus, remove the flange by turning it by 90°;
The heating element is connected to the flange;
When reinstalling everything, make sure that the flange gasket, thermostat and heating element are installed correctly. For horizontal models, the heater must be mounted turned down.

Replacing the rubber gasket

When dismantling the flange, it is advisable to replace rubber gasket to a new one.

Regular maintenance

Scale can be carefully scraped off the dismantled heating element so as not to damage its protective surface, or the heating element can be treated with substances designed to remove scale.

For additional corrosion protection, Merloni Thermosanitary water heaters are equipped with oversized magnesium anodes. With the aggressive properties of water, the magnesium anode wears out in 1-2 years.

The condition of the magnesium anode should be checked YEARLY. In case of severe wear, the magnesium anode must be replaced!

If the magnesium anode is worn out (residual length less than 5 cm), the warranty for the tank is void.

To replace the magnesium anode, remove the heating element flange, unscrew the old magnesium anode and screw in the new one.

Following the rules of regular maintenance will allow you to ensure a long service life of the water heater.

When the bipolar protective device trips

In the event of water overheating, a thermal fuse (according to C.E.I. regulations) breaks the electrical circuit on both sides of the heating element. In this case, determine the cause of overheating and reset the thermostat manually by pressing the reset button located on the thermostat (or, in case of a malfunction, replace the thermostat).

Before calling the master on the first suspicion of a malfunction, first check if the reason for the failure is the lack of light or water.
If hot water does not flow from the taps, first check that the water and electrical connections meet the requirements set out in the relevant sections of this manual. Check up reliability of contacts between plugs and corresponding clips of the thermostat. If everything is in order, then the two-pole protective device (see previous section) may have tripped, or the circuit breaker, or burned out heating element.
Before carrying out any maintenance, repair or cleaning operations, disconnect the heater from the mains electricity and water supply.
If the indicator lamp does not turn on, and the device heats the water, check the bulb.
If the safety valve is equipped with a handle for draining water from the water heater, it is recommended to flush the safety valve at least once a month to avoid clogging. To do this, lift the handle several times.
It is not recommended to remove scale from the inner surface of the tank, because. the scale layer is an additional protection of the tank against corrosion.
When connecting to a water supply system, direct contact between two different metals should be avoided (for example, when using copper pipes). For this purpose use connecting dielectric adapters which can be purchased from an authorized service center.

Thermoelectric Models

(for models with a capacity of 50 to 300 liters inclusive)

An additional operation for this type of water heaters is to connect them to the central heating network.

Connect the top outlet of the water heater to the upstream circuit of the central heating system and the bottom outlet to the downstream circuit using 2 valves.

Warranty obligations specified by the manufacturer

Guarantee period

The warranty period for the inner steel tank is at least 3 years, depends on the model and is indicated in the warranty card.

The warranty period for other elements is 1 year.

Basic conditions for the implementation of warranty repairs

In the event of a warranty case, turn off the power supply from the water heater, turn off the water supply and call the master of our service center (tel. TsTO "Elves" - 270-39-12, 268-96-46). In case of unauthorized dismantling of the water heater, which made it impossible to determine the cause of the malfunction, the service center has the right to refuse warranty repairs.

Warranty repair is carried out in the presence of a warranty card, correctly completed and certified by the seal of the trading organization.

During the warranty period, the following are carried out free of charge: warranty repair work, including the visit of a specialist and the replacement of spare parts.

Water connection

Next comes the connection to the water supply. A scheme is thought out, first drawn on a piece of paper, and then transferred to the walls with real dimensions. Along the lines where the pipes will pass, holes are drilled and clips are installed.

We close the valve at the water inlet, install a tee on the branch closest to the boiler. From it is a pipe to the water heater. A valve is installed on it so that it is convenient to repair the device, a strainer and a check valve.

We lead a flexible hose to the boiler and connect it to the pipe. Usually the input is marked in blue. In the same way, we draw a branch to the watershed point. It is not advised to connect without flexible hoses. On the one hand, it looks better and more reliable, but if there are sudden pressure drops, the tank takes the whole blow.

Description of anode rods

The magnesium rod eliminates corrosion of the inner walls of the tank, and also softens the scale that forms on the heating element during the operation of the water heater. It is a magnesium alloy rod on a metal threaded stud and is screwed to the heating element flange, together with which it is inserted inside the water heater tank. The hole thread diameter ranges from M4 to M8 depending on the size and weight of the magnesium alloy on the stud. The larger the size and weight, the thicker the magnesium anode stud. The diameter of the magnesium anode is from 14 to 25 mm. The length of the magnesium part without the stud is from 140 to 660 mm.

Operating principle

The water entering the water heater contains soluble calcium and magnesium bicarbonates, which are present in it in the form of Mg2+, Ca2+, HCO3- ions. Magnesium is the first to react with water, since it is more active than iron and binds free oxygen formed during heating due to a multiple increase in the amount of Mg2+ cations. When the anode is installed in the tank, not hard scale (CaCO3) is formed, but soft scale (MgCO3 or Mg(OH)3), which is easier to remove when cleaning the water heater, or which itself falls to the bottom of the tank during the operation of the water heater due to thermal expansion or contraction of the heating metal element. The anode will dissolve over time, so it is advisable to check or replace the magnesium anode once a year or follow the water heater manufacturer's instructions.

Is it necessary to install a magnesium anode in a water heater?

Modern boilers have tanks made of stainless steel, with titanium, glass-porcelain, enamel coating. In this case, the tank corrodes at the welds and begins to leak over time, so it is necessary to regularly replace the magnesium anode. If it was not originally in the water heater, then it must be installed in the case when scale forms on the heater. Without an anode, hard scale is formed, which has a lower thermal conductivity. This increases the heating time and the amount of energy consumed, reduces the efficiency, there is a constant overheating of the metal of the heating element. Replace the heating element or clean the flange and tank from dirt. It is not recommended to remove scale from the walls, as this is an additional protection of the tank from corrosion. Remove only the scale that has crumbled inside or is easily cleaned with a rag.
Replace or clean the magnesium anode. It spins next to the shade.
Replace all parts in reverse order.

At the end of the assembly, check the tank for leakage. If it leaks, replace the gasket.

When replacing the flange, it is important to put the same design as it was. Otherwise, the gasket may break, and the boiler will start to flow.
