Eurowindow does not close tightly. The plastic window does not close - causes of problems and their elimination

  • 17.06.2019

A window that does not close can cause considerable inconvenience and cause many difficulties. This problem is especially relevant when it is a cold season outside, and you can’t wait for the master’s help. If you encounter a similar difficulty, it is important to determine the cause of the breakdown. Here are the most typical cases in which it does not close plastic window:

  • the window opened in two positions at the same time, which led to the jamming of the handle;
  • the design sank down, which is typical of wide doors that rarely open;
  • window fittings have fallen into disrepair;
  • window sashes are blocked by foreign objects or a water-removing bar that performs a protective function.

Solving the problem of double opening.

If the swing-out sash opened in two positions at once, then try to find the blocker. Most often it can be seen at the end of the sash where the handle is located. The blocker is a spring-loaded component that is automatically pressed when the structure is fully closed. Whatever type this element is, it always performs the same function - it springs.

Often, the blocker is a plate that protrudes at a certain angle to the window lock directed along the sash. Consider the main stages of adjusting plastic windows:

  • Click on the blocker.
  • Without releasing it, move the handle up to the ventilation mode.
  • Press the top corner with the hanging loop to the frame.
  • Without releasing the lock, turn the handle down to the “closed” position. The building must be closed.

If the problem is solved, then be careful in the future: turn the handle only when the sash is firmly pressed against the frame.

But what if the handle jammed and stopped working? Perhaps you failed to find the blocker incorrectly or performed the actions with it incorrectly. Sometimes the problem lies in its incorrect pressing - you need to increase or decrease the effort. If the fittings are working, and the pressure is correct, the handle will start working. Remember that hardware wears out over time. To increase its service life, it is necessary to lubricate the main components from time to time.

We solve the problem of a sagging sash.

If the sagging sash rests on the lower part of the frame, grasp its lower part with your hands, lift it up and close it. Did not help? Then carefully inspect the lower section of the window from the street. On some plastic windows there is a protective drainage strip installed. Sometimes it moves closer to the handle and, after closing the window, rests on the inner section of the frame. This can happen during window cleaning, when additional items are installed between the sash and the frame so that the structure remains open. If the cause is a misaligned drainage bar, it must be aligned so that it becomes symmetrical to the bottom profile. To do this, lightly tap on its butt.

Did you manage to close the window? If yes, try to adjust the system as soon as possible so that the problem does not return.

A properly functioning plastic window is necessary to seal the room. With normal adjustment, the fittings press the sashes against the frame, and they are controlled by the handle. But it happens that the window does not close. It is important to determine the cause of this phenomenon, and then fix the problem. More about this in the article.

Sash tilt

Due to skew, a gap may appear between the sash and the frame, into which air from the street will enter. This defect does not allow the sash to fall into place. It will cling to the side and lower ledge of the frame.

If the plastic window does not close, it is necessary to change the angle of the sash, move it in a vertical or horizontal plane. To do this, there are adjusting screws located on the hinges of the sash. From them it is necessary to remove the protective pads, under which there will be holes for a hexagon or an asterisk key. During the rotation of the screws, it is necessary to obtain a normal closing of the sash and the elimination of the gap. The lower loop is adjusted in 2 planes, and the upper loop can be without adjustment or shifted to the right and left.

Poor fit to the frame

The window does not close when the seal loses elasticity, and also due to a failure to adjust the pressure eccentrics:

  1. Seals must be periodically washed and treated with silicone grease. If this is not done, they lose their elasticity after 5-6 years. Then they crack and let air into the room. If this happens, then you should buy and replace the seals. To do this, remove the old products, clean the grooves, and then install a new gasket.
  2. The eccentrics, which are located at the ends of the open doors, can be fixed in 2 positions: "Summer" and "Winter". In the first case, the clamp is not very tight, and this may not be very convenient in winter. To set the eccentrics to the desired position, you need to turn them by 90 ° using pliers, an asterisk or a hexagon (the choice of tool depends on the type of fittings). This allows you to get a tight clamp. When the cold is over, you need to put the eccentrics in their original position.

Faulty window in tilt position

If the window handle does not close after ventilation, possible cause the exit from the grooves of the fittings, which are called "scissors", is considered. This element is used to open the sash in ventilation mode. The handle will be locked. With the simultaneous tilting and opening of the window, there is a risk of breaking the lower hinge, since the weight only affects it. You should not throw the sash in this form, it must be covered. If the handle does not turn well, do not apply much force, otherwise it may lead to more damage.

How to fix this defect if the window does not close? Work is performed according to the following instructions:

  1. The sash must be removed from the frame. To do this, remove the trim from the upper hinge, pull the hinge pin down with a knife or screwdriver. Then it is pulled out by hand or with pliers.
  2. Then you need to remove the sash from the bottom hinge. To do this, you should slightly lift it up.
  3. The sash must be placed on the floor with the bottom.
  4. You should find the grooves that the "scissors" can enter and install them. To do this, press on the end of the sash on the handle rotation lock.
  5. Then it is important to check how the pen works. It should turn easily.
  6. The sash should be put in place.

In some cases, the flown "scissors" are installed without removing the sash, if there is a place at the top. If the handle does not turn and the plastic window does not close, it is necessary to troubleshoot carefully so as not to aggravate the situation.

Simultaneous opening of the sash for plowing and ventilation

The window does not close often because the handle is set to the “Open” position, and it is moved up during the ventilation mode. It turns out that the sash will recline and swing open. The handle is locked. This does not mean that the window has broken. It's just that the sash is in a position where it can't be closed.

The problem is fixed in the following way:

  1. The handle is in a vertical position. It is necessary to press the sash to the frame in the upper corner. It will be installed in its place.
  2. Then press the lock on the sash.
  3. Move the handle to the open position.
  4. At the end, the sash must be closed.

Malfunction in the "Closed" mode

If the window handle does not fully close in the closed or open form, then this may be due to an untimely actuated sash blocker. It is necessary to press it with your hand, and then put the handle in the usual position. This will allow the window to close normally.

It also happens when the blocker misses the stop with which it should engage. This is due to the thermal expansion of materials. You should unscrew the stop from the frame, and then put a gasket under it. Then everything is screwed into place. If there is a displacement of the sash, it is necessary to carry out the displacement of the stop in a vertical position.

Handle not working

If the handle does not turn, the window does not close, then the reason for this is usually the drying of the lubricant on the fittings. If the design works for several years, then this problem will be natural. In this case, it is necessary to lubricate the fittings using special holes located on the top and sides of the sash.

Any lubricant or oil is suitable. But it is advisable to use a silicone agent. After that, it is necessary to twist the handle so that the lubricant is evenly distributed. Usually helps if the reason was this.

Repairs can complicate the situation, during which the doors become clogged with dust and debris. In this case, lubrication will not be the solution. It is necessary to completely disassemble and wash the fittings. For this, it is better to call the masters. It is important to check if the handle functions with the sash open. If in this case the plastic window does not close well, then the reason is related to the breakdown of the fittings. You will need to call a specialist. If the window is functioning, then it is necessary to check whether the eccentric of the sash end rests against the clamping part on the frame. Usually this serves as a hindrance to closing. It is necessary to move the platform or sash up or down.

Handle breakage

If the window does not close completely, then the breakage of the handle may also be the cause. Or it could just be loose. You need to tighten the handlebars. To do this, the decorative cap located at the base is rotated 90 degrees. There are 2 screws that need to be tightened with a screwdriver. Then the plug is installed in its place.

If the handle breaks, unscrew the retaining screws, and then remove the old handle from its place. Install new part not difficult. It must be placed in the hole, and then tightened with screws. You will also have to change the fittings if you want to install a handle with a lock.

Prevention

To avoid any problems with the window, you need to follow simple recommendations:

  1. Quality glass installation is essential. This means that both corners must be at the same level. If there is a misalignment, then due to the high pressure, the frame will bend, causing breakdowns and looping.
  2. During installation, the product must not be subjected to mechanical damage.
  3. It is desirable to install the window on mineral glass wool.
  4. It must be remembered that the width of the window sill should be such that it does not block the passage of heat from the battery.

Proper operation

It is also necessary to adhere to the rules for using windows. A few simple tips will help with this:

  1. Do not apply much force during closing, as this may damage the handle.
  2. It is forbidden to hang any weights on the handle.
  3. During opening, do not press hard on the slopes.
  4. When on the street strong wind, the window must be closed.
  5. Damage must not be allowed.
  6. There should be no unnecessary objects between the frame and the sash.
  7. The sash must not be open.
  8. Humidity control is important - no more than 50%.
  9. Every day, the sash must be opened for ventilation.

Care

No less important is the care of plastic windows. It is as follows:

  1. In double-glazed windows there are channels for removing excess moisture. They are located at the bottom of the frame. It is important to monitor the status of these channels. They should be regularly cleaned of dust and dirt.
  2. Hardware should only be cleaned by special means that will not be harmful to anti-corrosion coatings. Do not choose alcohol solutions, dish liquids, nail polish removers or gasoline.
  3. To increase the shelf life of the product will allow the lubrication of fittings (2 times a year). In addition to silicone oil, you can use machine oil.
  4. It is important to control the quality of fixing the fittings to the frame, as this determines the smooth functioning of the window and its serviceability. To do this, it is necessary to check the strength of the screws in the plastic. If they are weakened, they are tightened.

Thus, the plastic window may not close for various reasons. Many problems can be fixed on your own. If it is difficult to deal with this problem, then you need to call a specialist.

For high-quality sealing of the premises, the exclusion of drafts, the maximum reduction in the noise level in apartments and private houses, the owners install plastic windows. High-quality, correctly adjusted, fittings support the correct operation of the structures, provide sufficient pressure of the frame to the sash. The handle controls the position of the flaps.

Sometimes problems arise: the plastic window does not close completely, there is a loose fit of the sash to the frame. Possible options: the handle is loose, the element is jammed, it is impossible to return the part to its end position. There are more difficult situations: the sash opened for both plowing and ventilation, it is not clear how to fix the situation without damaging the structure. Professionals give advice, presented in an accessible language for non-specialists, on troubleshooting common problems.

Why plastic windows do not close

The main causes of breakdowns, violations of operational characteristics:

  • low-quality fittings, fake under famous brands;
  • the plastic window was installed many years ago, the elements are worn out;
  • improper operation of the structure, sudden movements during the change of modes, frequent exposure of heavy balcony blocks for ventilation;
  • the purchase of a design with significant discounts, which should give rise to the idea of a possible low quality of fasteners, seals, and small parts;
  • poor-quality installation of window blocks, window sills, fittings;
  • poor maintenance of plastic windows: lack of periodic lubrication of metal elements;
  • the owners sharply, with pressure, open and close the sashes, do not hold the opening balcony part when moving to the “ventilation” position;
  • the window system is worn out not only from time to time, but also from improper operation;
  • plastic windows are operated in extreme weather conditions, temperature drops often occur;
  • the owners independently adjust the fastening zones, change the fittings, which can lead to inaccurate installation of parts, problems with opening and closing parts of the plastic window.

The window does not fit well to the frame: what to do

The main causes of the problem:

  • the adjustment of the clamping eccentrics located at the end of the sash is broken;
  • seals dried out, lost elasticity.

What to do:

  • timely adjust the clamping eccentrics depending on the season of the year, the need for air access and the degree of compaction. In the warm season, a less dense clamp is needed. To switch to the "Winter" mode, turn to do it with a hexagon, an asterisk key or pliers for a tighter connection. If the rules are violated, frosty air seeps through the thinnest cracks, which worsens;
  • if the reason lies in a cracked seal, then you will have to replace the elastic part. The service life of elements without loss of elasticity is up to 6 years, regardless of the manufacturer. You will have to replace the failed seals with new ones. The operation is simple: remove problematic seals, carefully clean the grooves from crumbled material, fix new silicone or rubber elements.

On a note! You should always be attentive to the condition of plastic structures and window blocks. Every 12-24 months it is obligatory to carry out preventive lubrication of fasteners.

Handle sticking in the "Closed" position

The main reason is the untimely operation of a part called a sash blocker. In this case, the handle stops in the buried or open position and does not turn further.

What to do:

  • press the blocker in the direction of the rubber seal, carefully move the handle to correct position;
  • only after this operation will it be possible to close the plastic window without problems.

Another common problem is that the blocker does not contact the stop, the parts do not clutch. A negative factor is the expansion of materials under the influence of temperature.

What to do:

  • carefully unscrew the stop from the window frame, find the gasket, put it on for the best grip;
  • then fix the element in place.

Sagging sash: what to do

A serious problem faced by owners who have plastic windows installed many years ago. Over time, the sash sags, when opening / closing it clings to the side or bottom of the window frame. The more the sash lowers, the more difficult it is to properly operate the window.

If the owners never adjusted the structure, did not call the masters at the first sign of friction on the frame, then over time the part sags much more. Despite the apparent seriousness of the defect, it is not difficult to eliminate the defect.

What to do:

  • the first stage is to remove the plastic lining that covers the hinges, inspect the lower and upper ends, find the adjusting part. In this zone there are holes for placing a key or a hexagon. Given the variety of the adjusting element, you need to choose the same tool to carry out the correction;
  • some types of fittings have the possibility of lateral adjustment. It is important to know: the adjusting elements perform a specific function: shift left-right, forward and backward, tilt and others;
  • it remains to adjust every detail, check whether the sash has recovered to its original place, whether the sagging has disappeared. It is necessary to adjust until a smooth sliding of the bases of the "hook" of the sash appears;
  • it remains to return the decorative plastic lining to its original place, and continue to use the window;
  • with the correct correction, the sashes will not sag for another five to six years.

The sash hangs on the bottom hinge, the window does not close

The cause of the problem is not in the design important detail- erroneous opening blocker. This detail prevents the plastic window from opening in the "Ventilation" position. If the structure is opened incorrectly from this position, a situation is obtained when the upper part falls inward, and gusts of wind can tear out important element fastenings - the lower loop.

What to do:

  • put the handle in the folding position, it is good to press the sash against the window frame with your shoulder. The next step is to carefully but surely try to return the handle to the correct turning position. You can’t rush, make sudden movements, so as not to spoil the fittings, to prevent damage to the structure;
  • not always the owners manage to correct the problem on their own. If there is no result when repeating the proposed actions, you need to call a specialist in the repair of plastic windows. If you act incorrectly, swing the sash, you can break the structure, violate the integrity of the fittings.

If you have problems opening and closing plastic windows, you can try to fix the situation yourself, using the instructions suggested above. If the first time it was not possible to return the handle or sash to the correct position, then you need to contact the company that installs plastic windows. Professionals will quickly correct the situation, suggest preventive measures. To reduce the risk of these problems, regular maintenance of structures is carried out: it is important to know how often to change the seal and lubricate the fasteners. High-quality windows with modern fittings serve for a long time and reliably, the question rarely arises why a plastic window does not close.

What to do if the sash of a plastic window does not close? Helpful Hints in the next video:

Incorrect operation of the sashes is a fairly common problem that almost every owner of a plastic window has to face sooner or later. Before you decide to try to fix the window yourself, you need to learn about its design, about the features of work and how you can deal with minor problems that arise from time to time when a plastic window does not close.

  • Show all

    The window opened in two positions at once

    This can happen when trying to open a sash that is already set to ventilation mode. Visually, the malfunction looks like this: the sash is ajar, its upper edge has moved away from the frame, the handle is locked in a horizontal position.

    This position is undesirable for the window system, since the entire weight of the sash falls on the lower hinge, which can lead to its breakage, so you need to act quickly enough.

    To return the functionality to the window, you need to perform several actions:

    1. 1. Disable the blocker - this is a part whose function is to prevent the window from breaking if it is not used correctly. Depending on the design features, this can be done by pressing the trunnion-shaped blocker against the sash seal or by installing a metal tongue located near the handle parallel to the sash. If there is no blocker, this item is omitted.
    2. 2. Firmly press the top corner of the sash on the hinge side to the frame.
    3. 3. Close the window by turning the handle all the way down.
    4. 4. Now it remains only to make sure that the window is functioning normally by trying all the possible modes one by one.

    Disabling the blocker

    The window will open in two directions and when you try to set the already open sash to the ventilation mode, only in this case the handle will take a vertical position.

    The procedure is the same, only after the upper corner of the sash is pressed against the frame, the handle should be installed horizontally.

    If the window opened in two positions at once, even with correct operation, then there may be several reasons for this:

    • the loop has sagged from below and its adjustment is required;
    • the blocker has failed (it happens extremely rarely);
    • the scissors broke - an element of fittings that holds the sash in the "ventilation" position. More about it in the next section.

    How to wash the windows on the balcony from the outside without streaks: safe ways

    Window in ventilation mode cannot be closed

    The most likely reason for this behavior is the exit from the grooves of the so-called "scissors" - an element of fittings located at the top of the sash and necessary to ensure the folding position and keep it tilted.

    Provided that there is a sufficiently large gap between the upper end of the frame and the slope, you can feel the grooves into which the ends of the “scissors” should be inserted and put them in place. To do this, you need to turn the handle, after pressing the blocker, as described in the previous section.

    If this is not possible (the slope interferes), then you will have to remove the sash, for which you will need to perform the following steps:

    1. 1. Remove the protective pads from the hinges.
    2. 2. On the top hinge, use a knife or screwdriver to pull down the pin and remove it.
    3. 3. Slightly lift the frame and remove it from the bottom hinge.
    4. 4. Install the "scissors" at the end of the sash.
    5. 5. Return the sash to its place, making sure that the "scissors" take the right place on the frame.
    6. 6. After completing the repair, check the operation of the window by opening and closing it several times in all modes.

    The sash is quite heavy, so if you have to remove it, it is better to call someone for help.

    Problems with the handle and blocker

    Sometimes a plastic window in a room or on a balcony does not close due to a handle that controls the sash and installs it in one of three possible modes, as well as due to a blocker responsible for its mobility. The most likely malfunctions are when the handle does not turn all the way.

    The handle is blocked and the window cannot be closed

    This happens if the blocker is triggered due to too quick a change in the position of the handle. Simply disable it, depending on design features, pressing against the seal or setting it parallel to the sash, as described above, then set the handle to its normal position. After that, check its work. To avoid this problem in the future, no need to pull the handle, better perform turn it smoothly, and the blocker will not work.

    The reason may also be that the blocker does not engage with the stop. Accordingly, when closing the sash, he cannot take a vertical position and unlock the handle. It's not entirely to blame correct installation or thermal expansion of materials due to intense heat. To repair the window, unscrew the stop, place a flat thin gasket under it, or move it slightly up or down.

    Sometimes the reason that the window cannot be closed is that the blocker clings to some structural element. It is necessary to open the window and carefully inspect the sashes: usually a black mark remains in the problem area. Remove the blocker, install a gasket between it and the element for which it clings, put the blocker in place.

    The handle is hard to turn

    If the handle turns hard or does not reach the extreme position, then this may be due to a lack of lubrication, its drying out (when long work). In the upper part of the sash and on its sides, you need to find special holes through which to lubricate using machine oil or a silicone-based composition designed for this purpose. Turn the knob several times to evenly distribute the lubricant.

    Do not use Vaseline for these purposes, any vegetable oils, gels designed for shoe care: all these substances become more viscous over time and prevent correct work mechanism. Do not get carried away generously pouring grease on the fittings: this will not make it work well, but will only lead to unaesthetic streaks on the frame and oily drops on the floor.

    If the above actions did not help and the handle is still difficult to turn, then the cause of the heavy stroke is debris and dust that have entered the mechanism. In this case, independent trips to return the functionality to the sash will have to be abandoned and the wizard will be called.

    Offset of one of the eccentrics

    If the handle rotates freely when the sash is open and the lock is turned off, and remains motionless when it is closed, it is quite possible that one of the eccentrics has shifted (this is a structural element that regulates the density of the sash pressure), and now rests against the pressure bar located on the frame.

    In this case, it is necessary either to raise (lower) the bar, or to adjust the position of the sash itself.

    If the handle does not turn to the end either in the closed or in the open position, regardless of whether the blocker is turned off or not, then this means only one thing: one of the fittings is out of order and needs to be replaced. You can't do without the help of a specialist.

    Handle wobbles and spins

    The cause of window problems may be insufficiently strong fastening of the handle itself and the lack of contact of its stem with closing fittings. If the handle began to dangle in its nest, scroll, if turning it does not affect the position of the sash in any way, you just need to tighten the two screws holding it. To gain access to them, the handle must be installed horizontally and, slightly pulling the plug, which is located at the base of the handle, turn it, setting it parallel to the handle.

    If necessary, you can independently perform a complete replacement of the handle by unscrewing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver, removing the old handle from the socket and replacing it with a new one.

    First, it is advisable to find out and eliminate the causes of the breakdown of the old handle. There may be several of them: poor-quality material, insufficient lubrication, a foreign body getting into the mechanism (in this case, creaking and crunching is heard when the handle is turned), incorrect position of the valves (sagging, skew).

    Loop problems

    If the window is in use long time or errors were made during its installation, the hinges may be the cause of the flaps not working properly. Insufficient lubrication is indicated by the heavy movement of the sash, creaking and clicking. It will be necessary to remove the protective plugs and apply grease to the hinges, and then open and close the window several times.

    Clogging of the hinge mechanism is a more complex problem, the solution of which will require the removal of the frame in the manner described above. Next, you should inspect the ends of the sash and hinges, remove large contaminants from them. After that, it is necessary to wash the hinges and the counterparts located on the wings with a brush and a special liquid. When the cleaned elements are completely dry, they must be lubricated and the sash should be hung again.

    Loosening the adjusting screws

    In this case, the sash may sag or warp, which will lead to its incorrect operation. To return the structure to functionality, adjustment of the screws with a hex wrench will be required.

    First you need to understand where the sash is tilted or shifted. The skew is usually invisible to the eye, but traces remain on the rubbing elements. You can also diagnose skew using a level.

    Then you need to remove the plugs from the hinges and make adjustments. In this case, it must be remembered that turning the screws of the lower hinge moves the sash in all directions, and turning the screws of the upper hinge allows you to move it only to the right or left.

    If the sash sags (too high position), the lower hinge should be adjusted by placing the key vertically in its upper hole. The sash is either lowered by turning the tool counterclockwise or raised by turning the key clockwise.

    The displacement of the lower part of the sash to the side is also eliminated by adjusting the lower hinge. To move it to the right, the key installed horizontally is rotated counterclockwise, to the left - in the opposite direction.

    When shifting the upper part of the sash, similar actions must be performed on the screws of the upper hinge, if possible: there are window systems in which the upper hinge is not adjustable, and the position of the sash changes only due to the lower one.

    Sometimes drainage strips are installed on the window sashes. They are located on the outside, in the lower part, and are often displaced for one reason or another. This can also interfere with the normal movement of the valves. It is necessary to open the window and move the bar so that it fits correctly.

    The sash does not close tightly enough

    In this case, all fittings are functioning normally, the handle is turned all the way, but there is still a small gap between the sash and the frame.

    Possible reasons:

    • The seals have lost their elasticity, and you will have to replace them with new ones, after removing the dirt accumulated there from the grooves. To avoid this in the future, it is necessary to regularly wash the seals and lubricate them with silicone compounds intended for this purpose.
    • The eccentrics located at the end of the sash, which regulate the density of pressing the sash, are set incorrectly.

    The eccentrics can take three possible positions. A weak clamp is used in summer, as it provides a small gap between the sash and the frame. The standard mode is good for moderate cold, with severe frosts it does not provide adequate sealing. With the advent of winter, close contact between the frame and the sash should be ensured, for which purpose the eccentrics should be adjusted by setting them to the “ strong pressure».

    Depending on the features of the fittings, this can be done with pliers (for eccentrics, shown on the left in the figure), or with a hex wrench. It is not at all necessary to set the eccentrics to the strongest pressure - you just need to periodically check how tight the contact between the sash and the frame is: usually a small turn is enough to restore the tightness of the window.

    The eccentrics should be adjusted around the entire perimeter of the sash, after which all moving structural elements should be thoroughly lubricated, otherwise the window will be difficult to close, which can lead to breakage of the handle. Undesirable and excessively strong pressure.

    The fact that the plastic window "acts" as rarely as possible, and diagnostics and troubleshooting takes a minimum of time, should be taken care of even at the installation stage.

    The main rule: do not put cheapness at the forefront, since a cheap window is expensive in the future, requiring constant attention and considerable time and financial costs.

    It must be remembered that an indispensable condition for the failure-free operation of the window system is:

    1. 1. Correct installation: the frame must stand strictly vertically, be firmly fixed, a gap is required between it and the window opening (in case of shrinkage of the building). The flaps move freely and silently, without clinging to anything.

Today in construction, instead of wooden windows most often began to use plastic windows. The frames of such windows are made of a material called polyvinyl chloride, so such structures have another name - PVC windows. Also, in the manufacture of plastic windows, double-glazed windows and complex mechanisms are used to operate the handle for opening and closing windows.

Causes of problems with closing plastic windows

Often, after several days of operation, PVC windows appear different kind Problems. There can be many reasons for this: improper operation, improper installation, flaws in manufacturers, and others.

In general, be that as it may, you need to know what problems may arise, and what are its causes, which will be discussed further:

  1. Coupling the sash of the plastic structure to the frame. Often, when closing, the sash simply clings to the window frame. The reasons for this may be the following:
    • The frame of the window block is installed incorrectly. In this case, you will have to reinstall window block fully. But before that, you still need to check the correct installation. To do this, you need to arm yourself with the usual building level, with which you can determine the deviation from the horizontal and vertical positions. If everything is installed normally, then the reason may be as follows.
    • The sash of the structure exceeds the maximum allowable size.
    • A double-glazed window with sudden and frequent changes in temperature begins to try to take the most stable position. The solution is manual adjustment.
    • A reinforcing profile is not installed in the sash. If this is the case, then it is necessary to change the sash, and the double-glazed window can also be taken from the old sash. The following are the most common causes of problems that may occur when closing plastic windows.
  2. The sash handle is loose. This is due to the loosening of the bolts that hold the handle to the window.
  3. The handle is hard to turn. Most often this occurs due to the fact that the handle was of poor quality.
  4. When turning, the handle jams and creaks.
  5. Hooking the sash to the frame.

What to do if the sash does not close tightly

Another problem that arises among the owners of plastic windows, and which requires an immediate solution, is the incomplete closing of windows.

  1. Loose clamps. In order to strengthen them, you can use a regular screwdriver. Just remember not to strengthen too much, as this can damage the sealing tape.
  2. Seals. Also, the reason for the loose closing of plastic windows can be the fact that the seals simply deteriorate. Seals are a common material that, like everything else, wear out. In general, it is recommended to lubricate the seals with glycerin once every 12 months to extend their service life, but experts still advise replacing them with a new one. The replacement process is pretty simple. To do this, remove the old seal, clean the frame of dust, grease everything with glue and apply a new seal.
  3. Sash hanging. This is no less common reason. The fact is that the double-glazed window is a rather heavy material, as a result of which the sash can gradually hang. To fix the situation, you need to use a hex wrench.

Replacing gaskets

Sealing gaskets are designed to protect residents from the cold that can penetrate from the street, from noise, from moisture. But the seal also loses its properties over time, and then the material needs to be replaced. This work is not such a laborious process, so, following the algorithm of actions that will be given below, you can handle it yourself.

But before you start work, you need to check the availability of the following materials and tools:

  1. Glue.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Sealant.

  1. It is necessary to remove the old sealing material, after which it is necessary to clean its place from dirt and dust, armed with a brush. After cleaning, you need to wipe the place with a cloth.
  2. Now you need to apply glue to the corners and to those areas where the new sealing material will be fixed further.
  3. Then you can start laying the sealant cord. Excess parts must be cut with scissors, and the joint must be glued with glue.

That's all! The old seal has been replaced with a new one.

What to do if the plastic window does not close

Very often in practice, when operating plastic windows, you may encounter cases when the window simply stops closing. This problem also requires serious attention and must be resolved immediately.

The main reasons for this are:

  1. The sash sags. This problem is more common in large structures where the doors are very heavy. Sagging of the sash is usually caused by the absence of an erroneous opening blocker. The fact is that if, in the reclined state, you accidentally pull the handle in the wrong direction, then the sash hangs on only one loop. To avoid such troubles, you need to install an erroneous opening blocker. If it is not possible to install it, then before turning the handle, you should strongly press the sash to the frame.
  2. The sash handle is locked in the tilt position. This is one of the most common reasons. It happens due to the fact that the so-called "scissors" (one of the types of accessories) come out of their groove. If all this happened, then you need to do the following:
    • You need to remove the shutter.
    • Then you need to find the scissors of the structure.
    • Now you need to press on the blocker and put the handle in one of the positions. It must be twisted until it becomes clear where to insert the scissors.
    • Now you need to fix the sash again.

What to do if the handle is blocked

Modern plastic structures have protective mechanisms of fittings, one of which is a locking mechanism. It is located under the handle, and to set it in motion, you must press a special button.

Sometimes there are cases when the sash is open and the user accidentally turns the handle. In this case it works defense mechanism and the handle is completely locked. The use of force is not recommended, as this can only worsen the situation.

In this case, you need to do it differently:

  1. Loosen fastening.
  2. Tighten the special screw that is designed for adjustment.

If these measures do not help, then you should call the wizard. You should know that in order to prevent such problems from recurring, in no case should you touch the handle when the sash is open.

Checking windows

In this case, special attention should be paid to the following characteristics:

  1. Purity. There should be no traces or dirt on the double-glazed window and on the frame.
  2. The number of double-glazed windows. If the design is single-chamber, then there should be 2 double-glazed windows, and if there is a two-chamber window, then the number of double-glazed windows should be 3. This can be easily checked. To do this, bring a lit match to the surface, and the number of reflections can be used to judge the number of double-glazed windows.
  3. Configuration. It is necessary to check whether everything is done as indicated in the contract.

Now you need to follow the work of the installers. When working, pay attention to the following details:

  1. Dismantling the old window. It is necessary to ensure that the installers dismantle the old structure without any damage, if such was indicated in the contract.
  2. Preparation for installation. Here you need to make sure that the installers clean the place from dust, dirt and residues that remain after the dismantling of the old window. They must also check the verticality and horizontality.
  3. Sealing. When installing a new window unit, some space remains between the frame and the wall. This frame must be sealed with foam, and outside with waterproofing tape.
  4. Examination. After finishing the process of installing a new window, it is necessary to check whether the seams open easily, whether the seams are neatly sealed, and all other details.
