Therefore, what is the salary of a designer is an interesting and relevant issue. First of all, payment for the results of an artist's work depends on the area of application of his knowledge and qualifications in the relevant field. Monthly income increases in proportion to experience and professional skills. For beginners who cannot boast of an extensive portfolio, the average salary of a designer reaches 40,000 rubles in federal cities and 25,000 in the regions.

Designer salary

The highest salary for a designer is in Moscow - on average, it is 50 thousand rubles a month. You can count on a salary of 40 thousand in St. Petersburg and Sevastopol. In other regions, the average salary of a designer in Russia at the end of 2016 is 35 thousand rubles. It should be noted that young specialists and graduates prefer to work at a fixed rate. Performance individual projects can bring higher profits, however, given the many nuances, it will be more objective to consider salaries in companies.

The profession of a designer is also important, the salary in which depends on the specifics of the field of employment. Highly paid specialists in landscape design and environmental designers are also in the highest demand. Second place goes to interior design. Web designers get relatively less, with the exception of animators. The creators of stylish clothes are paid on average about 30 thousand.

interior designer salary

In the direction of an interior designer, the salary in Russia depends on the prestige of the company, the talent and reputation of the employee, and the complexity of the projects. Given the specifics, it is difficult to voice the exact amount that an interior designer receives - the average salary in general is about 40 thousand, but in fact the income varies from 20 to 100 thousand rubles a month. Beginners in the regions are offered a minimum salary of 20 thousand, while the salary of an interior designer in Moscow, subject to his experience, can exceed 80 thousand.

When working on their own projects, a specialist can receive even more, especially in major cities, however, this requires an excellent reputation, creative ideas, author's style and focus on the result. The work is structured in such a way that with the high-quality implementation of the project, there is a high probability of receiving a more paid order, so the income of a responsible specialist is constantly growing.

Web (web) designer salary

landscape designer salary

A very specific direction is a landscape designer - a profession in which the salary is quite easily predictable. Having the same specifics as interior design, landscape development is a long-term work on single projects. This profession is considered very prestigious, since it partially relates to architecture.

How to become an interior designer

Since childhood, I liked to engage in creativity in different manifestations. She was fond of not just drawing, but voluminous paper layouts, origami. At the age of nine, I got into a children's architectural and art studio, where I successfully studied for six years. I have the warmest memories of my studies. As I understand now, it is very rare when teachers empathize and support students so much. The studio was able to give not only a sense of taste and knowledge of art history, but also patience and perseverance, which later came in handy at the university.

In high school, I dreamed of finishing school as soon as possible and enrolling in the architecture department of a university in my city. It felt like I was wasting my time at school. For the entire 11th grade, I was preparing for applicant courses - twice a week for three hours there was a drawing, on Sundays - mathematics. In the summer, drawing classes continued every other day for three to six hours. At the Faculty of Architecture always big competition. For admission, you must pass two exams in drawing for six hours each and a test in mathematics. I barely passed the points for the budget form of education.

The training itself was not easy. I was surprised by acquaintances from other universities who still worked full-time from the second or third year. architectural higher education considered one of the most difficult. Duration - six years of full-time education.

Classical education usually does not include training computer programs. If a person wants to become a designer, they will have to take a 3D visualization course at least. Otherwise, as one of my supervisors said, working in your specialty is much more useful than additional training in a fashionable school. After moving to Moscow, I just wanted to enter the same school with an international diploma, but changed my mind.

In general, design education is very subjective, and because of the high demand, the quality of education is declining. There are no professional standards and licenses, so you can complete some second-rate courses and be called a designer. One-day webinars, seminars, meetings with famous designers. Sharing experiences and networking with peers can be really rewarding.

But for a designer, the main thing is a portfolio. Orders depend on the quality and quantity of work done. With student papers, few will consider a candidate. Of course, in addition to this, the ability to communicate is also important.

Features of work

Now I have been working as a designer for two years with an architect friend. When you work together, ideas are even more carefully selected, everything superfluous is cut off. In the process of joint activities, the division of responsibilities occurred by itself. I am mainly engaged in the selection of furniture, materials, decor, negotiations with customers, communication with sales managers for the purchase of equipment for the facility, filling content and portfolios in social networks and thematic sites. The partner is engaged in the design of a planning solution, technical drawings, 3D visualization.

Stages of work on the project are standard. Preliminary there is a meeting-acquaintance with the customer, a discussion of the project and wishes, a technical task is drawn up, an agreement is signed. But more often all this is already combined with a visit to the object for detailed measurements of the apartment.

Then the first and fundamental stage of the design project is the creation of a planning solution, because without a competent and convenient layout in beautiful interior will make little sense. This is one of the most interesting stages of work. We usually offer several drastically different options. After that, usually one of them is finalized according to the wishes of the customer. The second stage of work is 3D visualization. On it you can see a picture of the interior as a whole. Real furniture, materials and fixtures are selected. Before starting work, we discuss with the customer the favorite analogues of interiors and colors. The last, third stage is working drawings. It includes detailed diagrams location of electrical and plumbing fixtures, doorways, bill of materials. So that the builders and you do not have any difficulties in the repair process.

The next step is the design process. The success of this stage depends on many factors. If the planned budget for repairs is clearly discussed, there is no constant throwing from side to side, the project has been fully agreed and approved by all family members, and a more or less qualified and experienced construction team has been hired for repairs, then problems should not arise.

My working day usually starts with answering emails e-mail and social media posts. It takes some time. Most of the time it takes to search for analogues of selected items of furniture or materials at the request of the customer or in case of problems with the timing / cost. Then I usually contact the sales managers to remind them of the promised proforma invoices or to discuss any questions that have arisen. Sometimes only in the late afternoon it turns out to do current projects. It happens that I spend the whole day with the customer on the road to select materials and furniture. The congestion is seasonal: summer is the hottest time. During this time, I sometimes hire assistants to do visualizations.

In Moscow the competition is very strong. There are probably several thousand interior designers. For example, there are two more designers with the same last name and first name as mine in the capital. But many occupy their niche, a certain target audience. For example, our customers are mostly young couples aged 30-35, the budget for repairs is small, but they are open to everything new and modern.

For small design studios or private designers, word of mouth is relevant. Since the design and renovation of an apartment is a responsible and rather personal matter, people often turn to recommendations from relatives or acquaintances. In addition to this and paid advertising, there are different ways attracting customers. There are many thematic sites where you can post a portfolio and participate in discussions, consultations, and write articles.

The cost range of a design project is 1,200–1,600 rubles per square meter depending on the scope of work and area. The complete project includes 3D visualization, working drawings and selection of the entire configuration. After completing the design project, it is advisable to plan joint trips with the customer to furniture and materials showrooms. Usually one or two are enough to see live how everything fits together, and in which case to pick up analogues. The cost of the trip is 3,500 rubles, and usually takes six to eight hours.

A design project is a constant dialogue between a customer and a designer. The participation of the client is very important, as the interior is always individual. Each family has its own wishes and view on future home. Many customers develop friendly relations.

Of course, there are unusual wishes of customers. In one bedroom for a girl, the use of effect ceilings was a prerequisite starry sky, a round four-poster bed and an electric fireplace. And other clients asked to build a safe for storing documents in a closet in the laundry room. On the first floor apartment building in the historical part of the city there was a desire to make a basement with a rest room and a bathroom (the Moscow Housing Inspection did not agree on such changes). Once, customers asked to rely on the scheme and recommendations of Vastu (the Indian analogue of Feng Shui).

The salary

Earnings are very different, as the payment is piecework. Maybe 20 thousand, and 200 thousand rubles a month. On average, over the past year, about 80 thousand rubles a month came out, if we consider a two-month vacation as paid. I know this for sure, because for the convenience of calculating income and expenses I use a special application. The total amount consists not only of the payment for the design project. There are also such income items as architectural supervision, interest from the sale of author's 3D models, writing articles, affiliate programs of suppliers. Sometimes designers offer, for example, furniture by agreement with the supplier. As a rule, normal designers make sure that these prices are beneficial for the customer, and do not cheat from above. In this case, the designer receives 2-5% from the supplier - for example, he gets 20-50 thousand from the entire assembly of an object worth a million rubles. Funny money. But for a designer, it is more profitable and more interesting to lead the entire project from scratch to its full implementation.

This year, the work has become less, and customers have become more selective and demanding. In recent months, income has halved: now it is about 40 thousand rubles. But I like that I have free time. I hope that in the summer - during the season of repairs - everything will be restored.

10 thousand rubles a month are spent on housing - we rent a "kopeck piece" for three. I drive a young man's car, it takes 2,000 rubles for gasoline. I spend most of my time at home, I eat mostly at home too. Spending on food - about 10 thousand rubles. Of the last major expenses - a driving school for 60 thousand rubles and braces for 140 thousand rubles. I plan to buy reflex camera for 55 thousand rubles to try your hand at interior photography of your projects. To print projects on A3 in color, I have already purchased an inkjet printer for 10 thousand rubles. Sometimes samples of materials, tinting fans of paints from different manufacturers are needed for work.

In my spare time I ride a bike, rollerblading, snowboarding. I like to just walk around Moscow, now some innovations are constantly appearing: parks, pedestrian zones, bike paths are being ennobled. This makes me incredibly happy as a designer! Just dreams become reality beautiful pictures urban environment and landscape design are brought to life.

I like to go on vacation for a long time - for two, four, six weeks, because it's hard to see something in a week. Just have time to take a break from the flight, and fly again. In addition, the cost of a flight is usually a significant expense item in a trip. Over the past two years, she has traveled to the UAE, Israel, Jordan, Abkhazia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and India. 90% of the time I prefer solo travel organized tours. It is often possible to find promotions with cheap tickets. The cheapest tickets are to Israel on the Red Sea coast for 1,500 rubles round-trip. It turns out to have a rest basically only on a trip, since during normal hours work is almost seven days a week. So I try to go somewhere more often. I hope to travel around Russia with a tent this year.

However, reaching such heights is not so easy. First you need to gain experience in the profession, and even earlier - get a job. And the competition is 7.5 resumes per 1 vacancy. Moreover, the designer's income may include a percentage of the transaction, which means that at first, until you are developing exclusive expensive projects, almost more will depend on sales skills than on design talent.

Still, the game is worth the candle. Even if you do not become Ian Cullum, you are guaranteed a job you love, a good salary and the pleasure of creativity.

Interior designer

An interior designer is a specialty that promises interesting, creative work, great opportunities for self-realization, and sometimes world fame. Such as that of Jaguar design director Ian Cullum, recognized best designer interiors of 2013 according to the Automotive Interiors Expo Awards.

Important, and at the same time interesting is the fact that a huge number of factors affect the final cost of the project, namely:

  • The complexity of the project - it all depends on the style that the customer wants to get in the end result. After all, creating a project in the baroque style will take much more time than creating a project in a minimalist design. Accordingly, in the first case, the cost will increase.
  • Creation of the project itself. This stage includes the creation of drawings, the design of utilities, the creation of a 3D model of the premises, as well as the site visit.
  • Special wishes of the customer. Unusual projects are always interesting and exciting, but often they require additional financial investments.
  • Property location. If the customer lives in Ukraine, but he really likes the projects of an interior designer, say from St. Petersburg, then he may well turn to him. Many specialists practice creating projects at a distance, but, of course, these conditions will affect the cost of work.
  • The price is also affected by the number of square meters.
  • An important criterion is also the room itself, namely where it is located, in a new building or an old building, in a cottage or apartment.

Looking at all the factors listed above, it is difficult to answer unequivocally how much the project will cost, and how much the interior designer receives for the project. But, approximate figures have already been named earlier. By the way, an interesting fact, the most expensive project was created in Moscow. The designer eventually received about 130,000 rubles for it.

Rates in arbitrary units?

The work of an interior designer is bright and unpredictable. Rates change regularly, it's hard to keep track of them and tell what the salary of an interior designer is. It all depends on work experience, and, of course, the desire of the specialist to work.

Most modern professionals prefer to work in conventional units. Thus, depending on the complexity of the work, they set the price per square meter. It varies from 30 c.u. and higher (on average up to 100 USD). Of course, the factors listed above also affect the final cost of the project.

Dream work

Getting a prestigious job is very difficult. Usually, in a company, the competition for one place is about eight people per vacancy. But, if a person is truly gifted, he can definitely get a job.

But, do not forget that most often, working in a company, you receive not only a stable salary, but also a percentage of the transaction. However, you can also work for yourself. Then you will definitely receive the entire cost of the project. But, do not forget that projects can be irregular, and not every person is ready to hire a specialist without experience. And, nevertheless, before you go into "free swimming" it is worth accumulating a certain length of service and work experience.

The most important thing in any business is to enjoy what you do. It is quite possible that you will not become a world-famous designer, but, nevertheless, good fees and creative freedom are definitely provided to you.

Summing up the results, we can say how much an interior designer earns in Russia, and what factors influence the earnings themselves.

Thus, the salary of an interior designer varies from 40,000 rubles to 80,000 rubles in Moscow. Thus, a novice specialist receives about 38,000 rubles a month, a designer with three years of experience can receive 20,000 rubles more, that is, 60 thousand rubles. If you are an experienced specialist, you can receive from 80,000 rubles and more per month. In Moscow and other large cities, the figure differs significantly due to the fact that the original design is more in demand here. All the above figures are earnings that you can get by working in a company, but if you work for yourself, then your fees can be many times higher.

In most cases, the salary depends on the designer himself, his skill and ability to feel, and most importantly, to understand not only what exactly the customer wants, but also to delve into his psychology, the designer must clearly understand the nature of his client, because he creates a room just for him.

Before answering questions about how much an interior designer earns, what determines the level of payment for his work and on the basis of what factors the cost of a design project is formed, we note what knowledge and skills a designer should have.

Constructor, artist and designer - a combination of basic working skills that an interior design specialist should have. Creative problem solving and attention to detail will be a good addition to the skill set. In addition, for effective interaction with the client, it is also desirable for him to have such personal qualities as discipline, responsibility and goodwill.

A number of factors affect a designer's income.

- Economic and social situation in the country and region.

- Type of employment (self-employed or hired).

- Scope of work and type of object (apartment or house, public or residential space).

A hired interior designer receives an average of 30% of the cost of the entire order. At the same time, the search for clients, providing the designer with a workplace, special programs and consumables for printing albums of drawings and related test documents - all this is done by the employer.

In the case of independent work “for himself”, all of the above issues are solved by the designer, while earning several times more. In other words, the designer has a higher level of responsibility in this case. He acts as a project manager, he also develops a design project, completes the facility and conducts architectural supervision, although some work can be delegated.

The more successfully completed projects behind the designer, the wider the range of his work (residential, public, commercial interiors), the more positive feedback about his work, the higher the level of his professionalism. Accordingly, he can ask for a higher price for his work.

As a rule, an interior designer evaluates his work by square meters of the floor of the room being developed. Average the cost per square meter varies from 500 rubles (for novice designers) in medium-sized cities of Russia up to 2000 rubles and more in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In fact, the upper bar of earnings is difficult to determine. The income of "star" designers is determined only by themselves.

Factors affecting the cost of a design project

1. Most often, the cost of a design project is calculated based on the area of \u200b\u200bthe room and the volume of the order. If the order is large, the designer can offer the client a small discount.

2. The cost of the designer's work is influenced by the style of the space being developed. Creating an interior in a historical style requires more effort than in a modern one. For example, a classic interior will cost the customer more than a loft-style interior.

3. The services of a well-established designer with an impressive portfolio are obviously more expensive than those of an aspiring designer, who must offer a competitive price for his work.

Extra income for a designer

Assistance in the selection and purchase of building materials with customer support in stores. Such trips are negotiated and paid separately.

Partner discounts and bonuses from suppliers of materials, components, furniture and fittings. The designer works with clients using catalogs and negotiates terms of delivery and terms of work with suppliers.

I must say that the opportunities and incomes of interior designers in different countries vary. For example, in Europe, almost all new buildings are rented with a fine finish, but very schematic. About 70% of the owners of such apartments immediately after the purchase seek to make repairs and, accordingly, will turn to the help of a designer to create an interior.

However, for Europeans there is no concept of a "repair team" or "a company that performs the entire range of construction and finishing works." For each direction, whether it is an electrician, plumbing, tiling or plastering, there are narrow specialists with the necessary licenses or certificates for the relevant type of activity. The customer concludes a contract with them, which is covered by a guarantee of the quality of the work performed.

In North America, not the metric, but the empirical system of measures is more common. The calculation of the projected area is not in square meters, but in square feet. In addition to the usual calculation of the project cost based on the floor area, designers in America also work according to the following schemes:

The "cost plus" system, when the payment for the designer's services is formed only from a percentage of the total cost of materials, furniture and accessories that he purchased for the client. The designer is entitled to about 20%.

A fixed project cost is the case when the designer, having studied all the initial data and made a commercial offer, agrees on a fixed price for the project.

It is worth noting that in order to conduct design activities in America, membership in a professional design association is required, that is, obtaining a certificate or license to work as a designer. The initial conditions for obtaining such a license is the availability of specialized education. The participation of the designer in seminars, additional courses and other educational events that increase the level of his professionalism is also welcome.

Note that in Russia, to work as a designer, you do not need to be a member of the Union of Designers of Russia. It is enough to master the skills and gain knowledge of the profession of an interior designer in any art university, where there is a specialization in the following areas:

Design of Architectural Environment.

Theatrical and decorative art.

Design for various applications.

Upon completion of the training, a freshly baked designer begins to gain experience in practical activities. Additional training courses, master classes, trainings in various areas of design are a good help for a novice designer. Experience and constant self-improvement in the profession are fertile ground for generating interesting ideas and creating bright design projects.

An interior designer is a profession in demand today with decent pay. Such specialists are needed both in companies providing interior design services and in stores selling appliances and finishing materials for the home. Self-employed designers will always find clients in the face of owners of apartments, country houses and commercial premises.

How well this prestigious job will be paid will depend on the designer himself, his experience, professionalism, ability to timely complete design projects, solve current problems and communicate with customers and partners. Due to the fact that there are no restrictions on the growth of professional skills and experience in the profession, the salary of an interior designer is a vector value.
