In February 2007, by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, he was enrolled in the cosmonaut corps of the Yu.A. Gagarin for the post of candidate for test cosmonauts, and on February 26, 2007 he began a two-year general space training course.

In June 2008, in Sevastopol, he participated in training in the event of a descent vehicle landing on water as part of a mock crew, along with astronauts Shannon Walker and Timothy Creamer. He completed general space training and passed the state exams at the Cosmonaut Training Center with an "excellent" rating on June 2, 2009. A week later, Ryzhikov was qualified as a test cosmonaut and was awarded cosmonaut certificate No. 204. On August 1, 2009, he was appointed to the post of test cosmonaut of the CPC detachment.

From December 2014 to March 2016, he was preparing for a space flight as part of the ISS-47/48 backup crew as the commander of the Soyuz TMA-20M manned spacecraft and the ISS flight engineer. Since March 2016, he has been training as a member of the prime crew of the ISS-49/50 as the commander of the Soyuz MS-02 TPK, the launch of which was originally scheduled for September 23, but was postponed to October 19, 2016 due to technical reasons.

Launched on October 19, 2016 at 11:05 a.m. from pad No. 31 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome as a crew commander spaceship"Soyuz MS-02" and a flight engineer for the crew of the International Space Station under the ISS-49/50 program of the main space expeditions. The flight to the station took place according to the 34-orbit scheme, the docking took place in automatic mode. At 12:58 p.m., the spacecraft docked with the anti-aircraft docking unit of the Poisk small research module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station. At 15:20 the transfer hatch was opened and the crew members boarded the ISS.

On April 10, 2017, with three crew members, the spacecraft undocked from the International Space Station at 10:58, and at 14:21 the descent vehicle made a soft landing 147 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. The flight duration was 173 days 3 hours 15 minutes 21 seconds.

By decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin of November 13, 2018 "For courage and heroism shown during a long-term space flight at the International Space Station", Sergei Nikolayevich was awarded the high title of Hero of Russia.

On October 19, the launch of the space expedition to the ISS will take place, in which Sergei Ryzhikov, a Vartovite, will take part. Our portal has already written that the first flight into space for it was supposed to begin on September 23, but for technical reasons the launch was postponed. We decided to collect for you the most Interesting Facts about our "star" countryman and his upcoming flight.

1 . Sergei Ryzhikov was born in Nizhnevartovsk, graduated from high school and the Wings of Samotlor aviation center here. As his class teacher from the 12th school, Valentina Eremenko, notes, since childhood he dreamed of becoming an astronaut and was confidently moving towards this goal.

2. After school he entered the higher military flight school Orenburg and in 1996 became a military pilot. Behind him are more than 400 hours of fighter flight and 110 parachute jumps. He was transferred to the reserve in 2012 with the rank of lieutenant colonel of the guard.

3. Ryzhikov is divorced. His son, Ivan, is a cadet of an Orthodox gymnasium located in the St. Alekseevsky desert, near the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky.

4. By the way, about Orthodoxy. Sergey is a deeply religious person and plans to take icons, letters from relatives and pebbles from Mount Tabor with him into orbit.

5. The upcoming comic expedition, led by a Vartovite, will probably be the most “religious” in the entire history of space exploration, because Ryzhikov’s crew will deliver a piece of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov to the ISS and then return it to earth.

6. Ryzhikov has three state awards: the medal "For Distinction in Military Service" of the 2nd degree, the medal "For Distinction in Military Service" of the 3rd degree and the medal "For Military Valor" of the 2nd degree.

8. Our fellow countryman passed all the necessary exams and pre-flight tests with five stars. He completed the general space training course long ago and with honors. 100% ready to fly into space.

9. For Ryzhikov, this flight will be the first, but calling him a "green cosmonaut" would be a mistake. Sergey was enlisted in the Russian detachment as a cosmonaut 10 years ago and in 2009 he already received all the basic knowledge to go into orbit. Since then, he has managed to take part in many difficult trainings and tests.

10. The Soyuz MS-02 spacecraft will launch from Baikonur on October 19 at 11-05 Moscow time and dock to the space station two hours later. The crew will have to work on it for 155 long days.

Russian test cosmonaut

In the 60s, when the development of deposits in Western Siberia began, one Surgut journalist devoted a whole page of the newspaper to his forecasts about what his motherland in future. He wrote that there would appear in Ugra big cities, power stations, river ports, runways would be built, but he could not even imagine that after only one decade, the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug would give birth to its astronaut. Although Sergei Ryzhikov was not born in Ugra, he spent his school years in Nizhnevartovsk.

Since childhood, he was in love with aviation, he gave it 15 years, leaving the reserve with the rank of lieutenant colonel of the Air Force. The space career did not start immediately: ten long years passed from enrollment in the cosmonaut corps to the flight to the ISS. In October 2016, the commander of the Soyuz MS-02 spacecraft Sergey Ryzhikov, together with a crew of two people, launched from Baikonur, and since then his call sign Favor has been known all over the world. The editors of "Place of Birth: Tyumen Territory" managed to personally talk with the Nizhnevartovsk cosmonaut and his father.

— How did your family end up in Nizhnevartovsk?

Nikolay Ryzhikov: I arrived in 1975 from Bugulma, Serezha was then a year old. A friend invited me to work in the Technical Transport Department, and I easily agreed. For a long time I drove shift workers to the drilling rig in the Ural. It was the time of the development of the North, with all the difficulties of that period. At first we lived in the village of Tamponazhny in a gully with furnace heating, without running water, they carried water, and in winter they drove it home on a sled. Then we moved to wooden house, and only five years before the school graduation, Serezha began to live in a comfortable apartment in a 16-story building.

— What are your impressions of the city from your childhood?

Sergey Ryzhikov: The city, of course, is native - all friends and teachers are there. There I finished school, the club of young aviators "Wings of Samotlor", the military sports club "Red Star", went in for sports. Of course, I remember Nizhnevartovsk differently. The city was going through a hard period of hard times, then everyone was in a fever, and we in the armed forces were no exception. Arriving home, I watched with pain how the city was decaying, and not only the social sphere, but people, and especially young people, were rapidly degrading. Now the situation is changing markedly in better side. V last years Nizhnevartovsk is getting cozier and better, and now it is a completely different city - amazingly beautiful.

But, you know, I'll add a fly in the ointment, despite the external gloss, people's priorities have changed a lot. Previously, they were infected with the spirit of enthusiasm, dedication, their goals were far from personal, more important was some common cause. Yes, my father went to the North, but money was not the primary goal. A friend called and go! Well, you will get more, but something else is interesting - a large construction site. These days, I met this only once, when last year I went with a delegation to the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome. There I saw burning eyes, enthusiastic people, veterans who once built Baikonur. They are already in their seventies, they have devoted their whole lives to the country, raising their grandchildren, but they learned about Vostochny and came from St. Petersburg, the Moscow region. Because an idea has reappeared that can unite everyone.

- And in the Tyumen region then there was such a big construction site that united everyone, but you nevertheless dreamed of becoming a pilot. Why?

Sergey Ryzhikov: Every year we flew to the "mainland" - to Bugulma, then there was no other transport. Of course, it left a big mark. And my grandfather served in an aviation regiment, fought, passed Koenigsberg. Films and books influenced, especially at that time all the boys still dreamed of some kind of heroism, romantic professions. What is the most romantic profession? Pilot, of course!

Nikolay Ryzhikov: Plus personal qualities - he always had the prerequisites for this. From childhood, Serezha was very purposeful, he did not waste time: he read a lot, studied, always did something useful. From the fourth grade, I slept on the floor so that my posture was straight. All these long years I went to my dream consciously, and it came true.

How did you raise him like that?

Nikolai Ryzhiko Q: I think he brought himself up.

Have there been moments when you were ready to change your dream?

Sergey Ryzhikov: You know, I'm probably not going to be original here. After graduating from college, for a long time I did not have the opportunity to fly, to grow professionally. Therefore, there were not so many temptations, but rather suggestions. Let's say you return to Nizhnevartovsk, work in an air squadron, do civil flight work. I don’t want to say high-flown words, but I kept my love for my work and perseverance. Once he said to himself: “Until everything falls apart, until they kick me out, I will serve. Not even flying, but sweeping." For a long time he carried guard duty and received for this every six months such money, which he was ashamed to talk about in his native city. We endured and hoped for change. During these years of waiting, I was given gratitude from fate, from heaven.

- When you saw the Earth from orbit, the first thing you said was that the planet is beautiful, so it needs to be protected. Has your attitude to time changed since you spent 173 days aboard the ISS? Does time go faster there?

Sergey Ryzhikov: Of course, there is such an opinion on Earth, a prejudice that time is accelerating. But we are accelerating it with our fuss: in our life, more and more becomes unnecessary, superficial. In space, all this ceases to be important, and the perception of time changes, including because of the abundance of work, because of the diversity of this work. (During the time of work on the ISS, Sergey and his team conducted dozens of experiments, medical, biological and physical experiments, served Russian and foreign cargo ships, station on-board systems, took photographs and videos. - approx. auth) . But most importantly, the worldview is strengthened. All our ideas about the world, common truths, which we were told at school, are confirmed. That a person should be good, that we are all equal, regardless of our nationality, cultural differences, position in society. When you are in a confined space, as part of a multinational crew, you feel it especially sharply. There comes an understanding that the Earth is fragile, and the time that is allotted to us must be used as productively as possible, with benefit and for a good cause.
