It's hard to imagine life without artificial lighting. There seems to be a return to stone age when people lived in dark caves.

But even at that time, fire was used as lighting. So why are we, highly intelligent individuals who have created and studied such a wonderful science as "electricity", worse than a caveman?!

We are not cavemen, we are creating the future. Think for a second: he created the first incandescent lamp back in early XIX century, the Englishman Delarue, and today in the 21st century we are trying to figure out how to install a two-gang switch for lamps. Funny thing progress, don't you think?

Do not rush to be ashamed of your inexperience or inability to deal with electronic devices. After reading this text, you will have all the knowledge to install and draw up a wiring diagram for a two-gang switch for two light bulbs.

Before starting any work related to the installation of electrical wiring and connection various devices, turn off the power at the panel. Follow the safety rules!

If the building is outdated and there are problems with electrical wiring, you will have to sweat:

  • not much if the wires are mounted open way;
  • strong if closed.

At last version again strobes are made and wires are laid.

For a more detailed acquaintance with the topic of how to connect a double switch and connect it to two light bulbs, we recommend watching the video:

Block installation

First of all, strip the ends of the wires: one input and two output, which are connected directly to the lamps. Clean the wires from the insulating layer by 10 cm.

The input phase is connected to a terminal or screw terminal, which is located separately from other holes and is called the input. The two output wires are attached using the other two terminals/clamps. This connection option is suitable for two-key devices that do not have additional modules.

The modular device is connected in a slightly different way. The input cable is inserted into the terminal of the module that is labeled Latin letter L. Nearby is the second terminal. They are both connected with a short wire. The output wires are connected in the same way as on single-case devices.

After the procedure is completed, the switch installed in the mounting box and fixed with bolts in the socket. Some models have removable keys and frames. They are attached at the end of the installation.

Scheme for connecting a single-key switch to a light bulb: features and nuances

Before moving on to a two-key device, consider a light connection diagram with one key. It allows you to provide control of the lamp without the possibility of changing the intensity. The wires are connected to the light source through a switch from the electrical panels with a switch in the junction box.

So that after pressing the key there is no short circuit, it is important to know how to connect the light switch correctly. The phase wire is connected to the luminaire through a switch. In other words, the phase should be connected to the gap, not zero. Only in this case, the operation of electrical equipment in the apartment will be safe: the probability of damage will be excluded electric shock when replacing a light bulb in a lamp.

Features of connecting a light switch with one key: step-by-step instructions and necessary tools

When starting the installation of a single-gang switch, you should take care of the following tools:

  • sharp knife;
  • pliers (pliers);
  • Side cutter. They can be used instead of a special tool designed for stripping wires. To do this, closer to the hinge on the cutting edges with a needle file, it is necessary to machine opposite cuts, forming a hole whose diameter slightly exceeds the diameter of the bare core;
  • Screwdriver set. You will need a slotted thin and medium, as well as an average cross. Prepare an indicator screwdriver. It will allow you to check the presence of voltage in a particular wire.

In addition to the tool, you should prepare a sufficient amount of electrical tape, with which insulation work will be performed inside the lamp housing and junction box, or three caps of PPE or Wago, for better work.

How to connect a single-gang light switch? Installation can be performed in the following sequence:

A photo Description of works

We determine the contacts at the electric switch to which the phase will be connected.

We determine the phase using an indicator screwdriver. To do this, the device must be energized. After determining the phase, the voltage should be turned off to prevent injury during the work. Carefully remove the switch key to prevent damage to it.

Having brought the phase into the socket, we connect it to the electrical switch. In the same way, we connect the wire to.

We connect the wires in the junction box. First we connect the wire from the lamp and the switch.

We connect the phase from the switch and.

We connect zero from the electrical panel with the wire from the lamp.

We put PPE caps on the junctions of the cores. Additionally, we isolate each connection with electrical tape, winding a sufficient amount on a bare wire (when using Wago, this is not required).

We place the twists in the junction box and replace the cover. We check the performance of the system.

Attention! Before starting work, you should make sure that there is no voltage.

Possible wiring diagrams for a two-gang switch

In my own way design a two-gang electric switch is a device consisting of two single keys placed in one housing. The ground and neutral wires are connected directly. The phase must pass through the electrical switch so that when the key is pressed, the electrical circuit closes and breaks.

The choice of the connection scheme for a light switch with two keys depends on the number of cores in the wires coming out of the ceiling:

  • Equal amount. The wires are simply twisted together, with a preliminary determination of the phase and zero. The last one from the ceiling is connected to the neutral wire of the chandelier, and the phase from the ceiling is connected to the phase wire of the chandelier and the electric switch;
  • There is more in the chandelier than in the ceiling. The wires in the chandelier are divided into sections, each of which is then connected to the phase;
  • There is more in the ceiling than in the chandelier. A case typical for new buildings, suggesting the presence, which can be recognized by its characteristic yellow-green color. If a similar wire is not provided, the "ground" is simply isolated.

In addition to dividing into schemes according to connection features, schemes are usually divided according to their purpose. We offer you to get acquainted with the most common options and their distinctive features.

Features of connecting a two-button switch to two light bulbs

So that when performing installation work there are no special difficulties, you should be well aware of the connection diagram of a double switch for two light bulbs. If the apartment was built relatively recently, the electrical network will necessarily include a ground wire, which should be connected to each of the fixtures (to the buildings).

If the house was built a long time ago, then in this case, most likely, it will not. Sometimes, during the construction of modern cottages, grounding is abandoned due to the low power of household ones. In this case, the ground conductor should be carefully insulated in order to exclude an emergency situation during the subsequent operation of the system.

The presented scheme is suitable for two connection options: one lamp, including two lamps, and two independent ones. The phase is connected to the input terminal of the electric switch, and then, through independent outlet contacts, is connected to.

How to connect a chandelier to a double switch: features of the circuit used

If the chandelier is equipped with two or more lamps, you should take care of the possibility of stepwise regulation of the lighting level. A two-gang electric switch will, if necessary, turn on all the lamps of the chandelier or a predetermined minimum number. The number of lamps switched on will depend on the selected connection scheme and the key pressed.

Before proceeding to connect the chandelier to a double switch, it should be disassembled with the type of cores, highlighting the phase and zero. Having turned on the switch keys in the working position, you should touch the voltage indicator to the stripped ends of each core. When touched, the indicator will light up, when touching zero, it will remain unchanged. The phase should be marked with a marker so as not to be confused during subsequent installation.

Advice! You should not be guided by the color of the insulation of a particular core. Especially if the connection was previously made by another person: there is a high probability of an error.

If there is no voltage indicator, you should remove the cover from the electric switch and see which cores are connected to its output. They will be under pressure. Zero to the chandelier will be supplied from the junction box.

Now about how to connect the chandelier to a two-gang switch. We de-energize the apartment. We divide the lamps of the lamp into two groups, depending on the desired degree of illumination. When pressing the corresponding key of the electric switch, a certain group will light up. connect each group in series.

We connect each group of lamps to zero supplied from the junction box and the phase supplied from the electric switch. As a result, three twists should be obtained: two, consisting of phase wires, and one, including zero cores. At correct execution work, pressing the first key will light up the first group of lamps, pressing the second - the second group.

If the chandelier has a metal body, then, according to regulatory requirements, it should be grounded. For this in new apartment it is necessary to connect the corresponding conductors of the lamp and the mains. This is the fourth wire hanging from the ceiling. If there is none, the "ground" inside the chandelier should be isolated.

Connecting a two-gang switch with a socket: diagram and nuances

If a double switch is installed in the corridor and is designed to provide lighting for two individual rooms, such as bathroom and toilet, most choose the model with . In this case, it will be possible not only to turn on the light in a particular room, but also to connect various household appliances (hair dryer or vacuum cleaner) right in the corridor.

The connection diagram of a two-gang switch and socket is characterized by a number of features. The socket is connected directly to zero and ground located in the junction box. The phase is also connected to the outlet, and then, using a jumper, it is fed to the input of a double electrical switch.

This allows you to ensure that the phase is always present in the socket, and it will be supplied to the lamps only after the corresponding key of the electric switch is turned on. The connection of the lamp is carried out similarly to the scheme for connecting a chandelier to a double switch without a socket. The phases departing from the electric switch are connected to the corresponding wires of the lamps, and the zero conductors of the lamps are connected to the zero branching from the electrical panel.

Features of connecting a two-button switch: step-by-step instructions and necessary tools

Not every layman is able to read the connection diagram of a 2-key switch with high quality. In this case, it will help to determine the sequence of work. detailed instructions, which will describe the installation step by step. Following it, the entire amount of work can be done independently without the help of professionals.

To begin with, it is worth preparing the tools and materials that will be required when installing a double light switch. Worth having:

  • Voltage indicator (indicator screwdriver), with which you can check the presence of voltage on a particular core;
  • Screwdriver Set;
  • Pliers;
  • Side cutters. How to turn this tool into a device for stripping insulation on wires was discussed earlier;
  • Electrical tape.

The installation of the double switch itself should be carried out in the following sequence:

A photo Description

Without turning off the power supply, we check which wires connected to the electrical panel and are phase wires. To do this, we sequentially bring the voltage indicator to each core. If the indicator is lit, it means that the wire is energized and is a phase wire.

We connect the zero core extending from the electrical panel with one of the wires extending from each light bulb. There should be three wires in the twist.

We determine which core is connected to the input terminal of the electric switch.

We check the quality of the wire connection to the two output terminals.

The phase departing from the electrical panel is connected to the core connected to the input terminal of the electrical switch.

We connect the wires connected to the output terminals of the electric switch with the wires connected to the light bulbs. We carefully isolate the junction to exclude the possibility of a short circuit during subsequent operation.

We install the cover on the junction box and assemble the electric switch. We turn on the power supply. If the installation work is carried out correctly, after pressing one key, one lamp will light up, after pressing the second, the second.

Conclusion

Thus, a two-gang electric switch allows you to adjust the intensity of lighting in one room or can be used to turn on lamps located in different rooms. Installation work, with the necessary tools and certain knowledge, they can be performed on their own. However, in the absence of experience, it is better to seek help from professionals who can quickly and efficiently perform the required amount of work. Incorrect installation can cause electric shock even with an elementary replacement of a light bulb.

In a room with several lighting fixtures or with a chandelier for several light bulbs, you simply cannot do without a two-gang switch that allows you to adjust the level of lighting in a certain way: one or more light bulbs can be connected to each key. We will consider the connection diagrams of two-gang switches for two or more light bulbs.

In addition, this is a more compact solution than installing several conventional switches. By pressing one key, we turn on one light bulb (lamp) or a conditioned group of light bulbs (lamps); the second key is "responsible" for other lamps or fixtures; pressing both buttons turns on all lighting. As you can see, everything is simple.

However, the installation of a double switch can cause quite understandable difficulty. More precisely, its connection to the network. Therefore, now we will analyze the whole process in more detail.

The principle of operation of a switch with two keys is simple: a phase wire that is energized is connected alternately or simultaneously to both wires leading to consumers of electricity by closing the terminals, providing the result described above. Prepared (bare to a sufficient length) ends of the wires are attached to the terminals using screws or special clamps.

Let's get started mounting the switch on 2 keys

Connection of electrical appliances, including switches, must be carried out in conditions of good daylight and always with a previously de-energized network.

We draw your attention: first, be sure to turn off the mains voltage!

Besides, necessary tools- Phillips and flat screwdrivers, pliers - must be with insulated handles. You will also need a sharp knife and good quality electrical tape.

First you need to draw a wiring and connection diagram and lay the wiring, after which you can take on the switches themselves.

Lay the wiring in an open (over the wall) way in special corrugated pipes or in a closed way(internal wiring) in grooves specially made in the wall, which are then plastered. Wire connections are made in special junction boxes.

The two-gang switch is very important element to adjust the degree of illumination of an apartment or a private house. Light bulbs can be arranged in groups or one at a time, light can be supplied to them by a separate key.

Very often, during repairs, when conducting new wiring, the question arises of how to connect a two-gang switch to provide several lighting modes. How to connect a two-gang switch, taking into account the necessary security measures - read on!

The design and principle of operation of the two-gang switch

The design of a two-gang switch is quite simple. It consists of:

  1. Two keys (moving up and down parts).
  2. Housing (shell), which is removed before starting work with electricity.
  3. Terminal blocks (those places to which voltage or current are supplied).

Rarely, the third element - terminal blocks - can be replaced in the design with screw terminals. The difference is that the former hold the wire for a long time and securely, while the latter do the same, but without clamping the wire, but twisting it, so the first option is easier to connect and last longer. Also, the design may include additional illumination - a dimmer located on each key. Read about connecting a two-gang switch with dimmers below.

Inside the non-illuminated two-gang switch there are two wires running parallel to each other and an input for the phase. Each of the terminals suitable for the keys can, independently of the other, open or close the contact, as a result of which one lamp (part of the lamps), the second lamp, or all the lamps together are switched on

.

Note! If you need to apply current not to one, but to several light bulbs at once. Definitely worth using stranded wires. This just allows you to make a two-key model of the switch.

The principle of operation of the switch is the variability of the degree of illumination:

  1. You can turn on only one key so that one light bulb (or the first group of lights) lights up.
  2. It is possible to turn on the second key - the lighting will change, as some parts of the room will be clearly visible, while others will be slightly darkened.
  3. The third option is to turn on “to the fullest” - both keys are in the “on” position - then the room receives maximum lighting.

By the way, some two-key switches consist of two single-key devices isolated from each other. In this case, it is customary to call them modular.

In addition to the external component, such a device can also perform the functions of saving energy and creating a diverse atmosphere. And two-gang switches increase safety, since when they are installed in a room, the number of points with electrical voltage decreases.

Before starting work on preparing for connecting the switch, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the diagram of a two-gang switch below:

Preparatory work

When working with an electrician, extreme accuracy and caution must be observed, therefore, all materials and tools needed for work must be prepared and purchased in advance:

  • screwdriver flat and Phillips;
  • pliers;
  • side cutters;
  • insulating tape;
  • a good construction knife with a sharp blade (for stripping the ends of wires);
  • for crimping, it is more convenient to use a special tool - a crimping tool (it is not required if the wires are not stranded);
  • switch;
  • wires.

Attention! It is very important to turn off the mains voltage before starting work!

It is extremely important (especially for non-professionals) to draw a diagram for connection and lay the wiring in advance and correctly.

The circuit should include the following three wires:

  1. Ground wire(displayed on the light source, indicated on the diagram as “0” or with an arrow pointing down).
  2. Neutral wire(also displayed on the light source, indicated by the letter “N”).
  3. Phase- a wire under voltage, which, when turned on, must provide power to the bulbs (terminals for a phase wire are indicated by the Latin letter “L”).

Carry out the wiring in one of two possible ways: open or closed. For the first, additional materials will be needed - corrugated pipes or strobes, for the second - you need to hollow out grooves in the walls.

Please note that wiring is done before plastering the walls and ceiling. This means that only after laying all the wires and their sufficient insulation, you can start finishing work.

To make a small recess under the switch, you will also have to use a chisel and a hammer (this is not necessary if the switch will be installed in the old place).

Connecting a two-gang switch

Before making the connection, you must first strip the ends of the wires by 1-1.5 centimeters to ensure good contact with the terminals. If the wires are powerful, stranded, at this stage you need to press their ends.

There should be three wires going to the switch with two keys. One of them is the input - phase, and the other two are output, which will supply voltage directly to the lamp itself.

The neutral wire and ground, as already mentioned, are connected directly to the light source (to the light bulbs, more precisely, to their contacts).

After that, you need to find the phase wire and the entrance under it (it, unlike the outputs, is one). Look at the switch, previously released from the upper casing. It must have at least one arrow on it. It usually indicates where and where the phase will go from. Near the base of the arrow, the phase wire must have an entrance.

As a rule, in such switches, the terminals for the phase input are marked with the symbol "L", in turn, the terminals for the output cables are marked with arrow symbols.

To find the phase exactly, use special device. And if it is not there, you can determine this experimentally by connecting a chandelier or lamp for a while.

So, you need to alternately connect with pliers in pairs (not simultaneously!) One wire with two others. That is, you choose one wire and bring it first to one of the remaining, then to the other. This wire, from which one or another group of lamps (lamps) will light up, is the phase.

When the phase is found, it can be connected to the switch input (this is the first wire that goes to the switch), and the other two wires to the two output terminals, respectively (these are the second and third wires that go to the switch). Then it remains only to insulate the dangerous places on the wires and insert the structure into the socket, which should be screwed into place prepared in advance for this.

After that, it remains only to install the fittings and you can check the device in operation.

To better understand the connection diagram, we suggest watching the video below, which describes in detail and examples show the connection diagram of a two-gang switch:

Connecting a backlit two-gang switch

In the circuit described above, the illuminated switch makes small additions. Namely: two more wires appear (so that when the light is off, the red indicator on each of the two keys is on - it's easier to look for the switch in the dark).

So, these additional wires come from mini-indicators located on the keys. Next, you need to connect one of them to the phase that goes from above, and the second, which goes from below to the wire that goes to one of the two lamps (groups of lamps).

  1. Calculate in advance the required (sufficient) cross-section and length of the wires, depending on the power of the light sources. The cross section cannot be less than one and a half square millimeters.
  2. It is recommended that, in addition to the junction box, you also purchase an additional protective device that will protect against short circuits and overloads in the mains.
  3. Choose terminal switches, and not with screwed screws, as the first connection option is stronger and more durable: the screws will need to be tightened after a while.
  4. You can adjust the illumination with a single-key device! But for this, additional equipment is purchased and installed - the so-called dimmer.
  5. If you will install a similar design to illuminate a bathroom or other wet place, in no case mount the switch indoors.
  6. Note: if the switch is modular, then there is always one more near the input terminal. These two terminals must be connected to each other with a separate wire.
  7. All connections and connections are strictly forbidden to be carried out outside special junction boxes. And in the case of complicated environmental conditions, additional protection must be made (for example, against water, humidity, ingress of other solid and liquid substances).
  8. If you install a switch, for example, for a toilet, then one of the keys can turn on the light in this room, and the other - the hood.

Connecting a switch that controls the light with two keys is not difficult if you follow the above instructions exactly. Read all instructions first and helpful tips so as not to miss anything, then everything will work out!

To increase the level of comfort during the operation of lamps, a wiring diagram for a pass-through switch from 2 places is useful. In practice, if necessary, more control points are used. To save time and Money work operations are carried out independently. A thorough comparative analysis, taking into account the characteristics of products from different manufacturers, helps to make right choice at the time of buying. These and other practical tasks will be easier to solve after studying this article.

What is a pass switch

A superficial study of the problem will not allow you to draw the right conclusion. To some, such devices seem redundant. However, similar arguments can be made against the use of consoles. remote control, other devices to increase the level of comfort. Meanwhile, the transitional switch is intended not only for convenience. What it is is shown in the following figure:
The first picture shows a typical situation. One lamp is enough to illuminate the flight of stairs. It is turned on from the bottom platform. Climbing up top platform(Picture No. 2), open the electrical circuit. This action is performed using another switch. When moving in the opposite direction, a similar algorithm of actions is used.

It is clear that such solutions significantly increase the level of security. They are used not only on stairs, but also in long corridors. Good lighting is especially important in the presence of turns, furniture, and other obstacles on the route. Such equipment is necessary in the absence of windows. Modern users will be reminded of the presence of devices that perform similar functions using motion sensors, sounds.

A careful comparison with a pass-through switch will reveal the following disadvantages:

  • Motion sensors have a certain radiation pattern, which makes it difficult to choose a suitable place to fix it.
  • The sound recorder is capable of responding to extraneous noise. Sensitivity should not be reduced excessively to maintain performance.
  • These devices are sensitive to voltage drops. Some false positives occur when ethereal (network) electromagnetic interference occurs.
  • Such products are more expensive than walk-through switches.
  • Because of increased complexity they are designed for a shorter lifespan.

The above arguments are sufficient for correct conclusions. Without diminishing the importance modern solutions, the real advantages of cheap, reliable and durable walk-through switches should be noted. Separately, it should be noted the improvement in the ergonomic indicators of residential premises with the help of these relatively simple electrical products.

Single key switch

Pass-through switches (1 and 2) in the lighting lamp control circuit from two places

The above diagrams explain how a switch differs from a switch. The first one breaks and connects the electrical circuit. The second - changes the path of passage of electric current.

The device and principle of operation of the pass-through switch

Switching unit in a disassembled state

This photo with explanations will help to study the device of the pass-through switches. Screw terminals (1.3) are installed here for connecting wires. A rocker arm (2) of a complex shape is installed in the recesses of the support platform (4), which ensures reliable fixation. But there remains the possibility of swinging it with the help of a transition element (6) installed in the cover (5). If you press on its upper part, the corresponding contacts will be closed, the current will go along the path from the rocker arm through the clamp (2-1). Pressing down will close the electrical circuit 2-3.

Developers use different solutions, but the principle of operation of the products of this group is the same as described above. For the given parts of the structure, the following explanations should be given:

Features of modern walk-through switches

The central block discussed above is installed in a metal frame (6). In this design, special latches (4) are used for reliable fixation, speeding up assembly operations. Other models use screw fasteners. Cutouts (1) in the frame make it easy to pinpoint switches, sockets and other electrical appliances in a single horizontal/vertical block.

When the screws (3) are tightened, special “legs” move out to the sides. They provide fastening of the feed-through switch in the mounting box. In this model, plate clamps (2) are installed, where conductors freed from insulation are inserted. High-quality contact is created without special tools and additional fasteners. This modification is equipped with a built-in backlight. The light bulb is installed in such a way that replacement is possible without dismantling the entire mechanism.

A conventional device (1) and a backlit switch (2) are connected to the circuit according to the same scheme

However, the second option provides good visibility of the device in darkened rooms. It should be noted that this solution is not compatible with all types of lamps. In the off state, a small current flows through them. This will be enough to power the LEDs. Incandescent lamps and gas-discharge devices can be connected to such circuits without restrictions.

Connecting different walk-through switches

Devices in a protected design with sealed gaskets are installed in an open space. They perform their functions safely in the pouring rain. Built-in lighting is useful in a dark corridor. Accurate specifications selected taking into account the actual conditions of future operation. However, in any case, information on how to properly connect a pass-through switch with a certain number of keys is useful. It is this parameter that largely determines the functionality of the switching device.

Lamp control schemes from two and three places

In the second option, it is necessary to use a single-key cross switch (marked with an arrow in the figure). Please note that it has two switching groups, which are driven by one drive. Such products do not differ externally from standard switches, but they perform different functions.

According to this scheme, double-gang switches are used in practice

This option complicates the project. It is necessary to use cables with a large number of conductors. But it is the connection of a double switch that allows you to organize the control of several groups of lamps. Such solutions are used in large rooms to adjust the chandeliers of the general light.

Careful planning will prevent annoying mistakes, simplify the right choice. It is necessary to carefully determine the modes of application of lighting in order to accurately determine the purpose of the project. The locations of the passage switches are set not only in accordance with the current rules. are of significant importance physiological features users. During comparative analysis take into account appearance and functionality, prices and manufacturer's warranties. An integrated approach will help implement plans of any level of complexity at no extra cost.
