Refund of Russian Railways e-tickets

You can issue a cancellation and return an electronic ticket no later than 8-10 hours before the train departure, if a person is traveling through the territory of Russia. In this case, he will be able to get money for the ticket and the reserved seat back. When returning a travel document 2 hours before departure, the passenger will be refunded only the funds that were spent on purchasing the ticket, and he will no longer receive a reserved seat.

In any case, when returning an electronic boarding pass that has not been used for its intended purpose, the full amount will not be refunded. Russian Railways charges a fee of 155.5 rubles, which is established by the Federal Tariff Service of the Russian Federation. Rules for different options:

  1. Returning one specific ticket from a large order. In this case, the usual return procedure occurs, but with several features. If a passenger wishes to return only one e-Travel Document, it is understood that other ticket holders have been informed of this.   5. Cancellation of international e-tickets. It is carried out with a mandatory deduction of commission (10 euros). The currency is converted into rubles at the exchange rate of the Central Bank at the time of collection. In this case, you need to hand over the document no later than one day before departure in order to return the full fare back. If the boarding pass is returned 6 hours before the scheduled travel time, the passenger will receive back only the amount equivalent to the fare (all commissions, fees, etc. will be deducted).
  6. Return of the ticket issued for the passenger "Child without a seat". In this case, no commissions are charged.
  7. Refusal of a travel document if the passenger has not passed electronic registration. The procedure is carried out at any time, up to the moment the train leaves the station (when traveling within the country, as well as to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Abkhazia). If a person wants to return a ticket for an international train, then this must be done no less than 6 hours before the departure of the transport.
  8. Return of the ticket after electronic registration. An unused domestic ticket must be returned at least one hour before departure. For an international route, it must be handed over at least 60 minutes before the departure of the train from the starting station of the route and no later than 6 hours before leaving the platform at the passenger's boarding station.

Return Money occurs on the card with which the purchase of travel documents was paid. In this case, the period will depend only on the company that services the bank card. As a rule, funds are returned within 7-30 days from the date of cancellation of the ticket. Any claim for a refund should be directed to the bank, as Russian Railways does not transfer funds.

Refund of Russian Railways e-ticket via the Internet is the most convenient and in a simple way, but has certain limitations.   • the identity document with which the order was placed (passport or birth certificate);
  • order number for which the ticket was printed;
  • control coupon.

If a person wants to return a travel document about an hour before departure, monetary compensation is carried out in a claim procedure. For this you will need:

  • a statement signed by the passenger indicating the claim;
  • the original document, which indicates a good reason explaining the delay in the train;
  • printed e-ticket or its number.

In return, the cashier must issue a document that confirms the receipt of the claim and the refund. As a rule, it also indicates the amount of compensation due to the passenger. In this case, the money can be returned within six months from the date of departure of the train.

If the return of the travel document takes place abroad, the procedure is somewhat different. For example, a person went on a business trip to Germany and for some reason missed the train, then in order to receive a refund for an unused ticket, he needs to:

  • go to any refund office;
  • provide the cashier with a passport and an electronic or paper travel document;
  • receive from the employee a special form with a return mark;
  • upon returning to Russia, report to the nearest return office (within six months after the departure of the train).

An e-ticket can be refunded one hour before the train departure. With such a refund, the money will be transferred to the card from which the ticket fee was taken. The term of the transfer depends on your bank, it can take up to a month.

Ticket refund amount

The cost of a regular and electronic train ticket consists of two parts:

Also, 178.30 rubles are deducted from the amount for the refund - the Russian Railways fee. About 330 rubles - a service fee, about 175 rubles - sanctions for a return. There is also a claim fee of about 50 rubles, and if the return of an electronic ticket is issued via the Internet, then the fee for online return of tickets is deducted - 50 rubles.

If the return is made 12 hours after the departure of the train, then the costs will not be compensated.

Refund terms

The refund period for the ticket depends on how it was paid for.

Procedure conditions

The cost of a travel document consists of two values:

  • payment for the use of Russian Railways infrastructure;
  • payment for the "reserved seat", or the operation of the car and the services of personnel.

In case of cancellation of the trip, the passenger will have to compensate the RZD company for a fee of 193 rubles in any situation.

In addition, the following conditions apply when issuing a refund:

  • if the refusal occurs 8 or more hours before the departure of the train from the station where the traveler should board the car, then 100% of the cost of the reserved seat and the price for using the infrastructure are compensated;
  • when the coupon is returned within the time period of 8-2 hours before the departure of the train, the passenger is compensated for 100% of the use of the structure railways and half the price of a reserved seat;
  • if the refund is issued less than 2 hours before the departure of the train or 12 hours after the departure of the train, then the failed passenger receives only 100% of the price of the infrastructure, without compensation for the reserved seat;
  • if the citizen had compelling circumstances that forced him to hand over the travel document (accident, sudden illness, death loved one), then you can return the money within five days from the moment the events occurred, having received only 100% compensation for the use of the Russian Railways infrastructure.

You will not be able to return a ticket for the right of way under the following circumstances:

  • when trying to refuse one seat out of two ordered in a business or luxury class carriage of an international train;
  • when trying to refuse one of several seats purchased at the same tariff, a train following the route "Finland - Russia";
  • in case of missing the deadlines stipulated by the rules of the organization.

    As stated in the above acts, passengers have the right to return unused tickets. The amount to be refunded will be calculated depending on the time remaining before the departure of the train.

    • Money is returned in the same way as they are listed for the ticket.
    • The amount of the refund depends on how much time is left before the transport is sent.
    • There is a fee for returns.

    ○ When can train tickets be returned?

    Grounds for refunding train tickets:

    • Train delay or cancellation – the passenger can fully refund the fare or reissue the travel document for a more convenient flight.
    • Termination of the train - money is returned for the distance not traveled.
    • Refusal of the passenger from the trip before the departure of the transport - the money is not returned in full.
    • Late for transport within 12 hours after its departure or other good reasons for not using the ticket.
    • Removal of a passenger from the train due to his illness - the money is returned for the distance not covered.

    Which tickets can be returned?

    Regardless of the distance, you can return:

    • Electronic tickets - through the website or railway ticket office.
    • Paper tickets - through any railway ticket office with an identity card and the ticket itself.
    • Subscription travel cards for suburban transport are returned to the ticket office (the passenger writes a written application to refuse the travel document).

    When ordering several tickets, it is allowed to return all or only part of them. The only exceptions are "luxury" seats on long-distance trains - if you have purchased 2 tickets in one compartment, you cannot return one of them.     ○ Can e-tickets be returned before paper versions are received?

    E-tickets are returned through the online page of Russian Railways or through the website where the ticket was ordered. To do this, open your profile, go to the "My Orders" section, select desired document and click the "Return" button.

    Money is returned within 7-30 days to a bank card. Please note that a commission is always charged for the return of tickets at the initiative of the passenger.

    ○ How are tickets paid out?

    If the passenger returns the ticket to the railway ticket office, the money will be refunded on the spot. This rule applies only to those who purchased a ticket for cash.

    As for payment through a terminal or through a card via the Internet, paragraph 83 of Regulation No. 473 says:

    “Refund for an unused travel document (ticket) issued by bank transfer (or in cash for organized groups of passengers) or using a payment card is made to the bank account of a legal or individual who paid for the travel document (ticket).

    Thus, it will also not work to return a large amount of money paid for the travel of a group of people through the cash desk. The return period is set by the bank. It is 7-30 days.

    Money is usually returned to an electronic wallet longer - from 10 days to 2 months.

    With a claim return procedure, money can be expected for a very long time - up to 210 days, this is due to the fact that six months are allotted for consideration of the claim, plus a month for the transfer of funds by the bank.

    Money for a subscription pass is returned within 10 days from the date of preparation of an application for its return.

    ○ Can I return my ticket after the train has left?

    Yes. To do this, you need to contact the return office located at the place of your departure. You can substantiate your claims by the provision of paragraph 87 of Regulation No. 473:

    “The passenger has the right to receive the cost of a ticket without the cost of a reserved seat, a service fee (if any) and other payments (with the exception of a fee for reserving seats on long-distance trains):

    • When returning an unused travel document (ticket) for a long-distance train to the ticket office of the passenger boarding station if the train is late for 12 hours from the moment of its departure.
    • When returning an unused travel document (ticket) to the ticket office of the passenger boarding station due to illness or accident within 5 days from the departure of the train for which the travel document (ticket) was purchased.

    Thus, after the departure of the railway transport, you can return the money, however, not in full. The term "reserved seat" mentioned in the article refers to the fee for using the carriage and is 30-60% of the ticket price. In case of non-use of the ticket due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, documentary evidence of this fact must be presented. For example, a doctor's note.

    ○ Return before train departure.

    The easiest option is to return the ticket on time long before the trip. So it will turn out more money save on returns.

    You can return the full cost of the ticket (except for the refund fee) by:

    “When returning an unused travel document (ticket) to the ticket office no later than 8 hours before the train departure.
    When returning to the carrier an unused travel document (ticket) purchased for travel as part of an organized group of passengers, no later than 7 days before the departure of the train ”(clause 85 of Rules No. 473).

    Refunds for the purchase of a ticket (except for half the price of a reserved seat and a commission fee) can be:

    “When returning an unused travel document (ticket) to the ticket office less than 8 hours, but no later than 2 hours before the train departure.
    When returning to the carrier an unused travel document (ticket) purchased for travel as part of an organized group of passengers, less than 7 days, but no later than 3 days before the departure of the train ”(clause 86 of Rules No. 473).

    Refunds for the purchase of a ticket (except for the full price of a reserved seat and a refund fee) can be:

    “When returning an unused travel document (ticket) to the ticket office less than 2 hours before the train departure.
    When returning to the carrier an unused travel document (ticket) purchased for travel as part of an organized group of passengers less than 3 days before the departure of the train ”(clause 87 of Rules No. 473).

    You can also rent tickets to the CIS countries, the Baltic states and Abkhazia before the train leaves.

    The full cost of the travel document can be returned if you contact the ticket office a day before the departure of the transport from the passenger station. If there are from 6 to 24 hours left before departure, you can return the money paid minus half the cost of the reserved seat. If less than 6 hours are left, you can only refund the price for the ticket itself and for additional services (tea, bedding).

    You can only return an electronic ticket through the official website of the carrier. You can apply for a refund at least 6 hours before the departure of the vehicle from the passenger station.
