Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and bestowing life on those in the tombs. Prayer Christ is risen from the dead by death trampling death

  • 29.09.2019

chants "Christ is risen from the dead..." - the troparion of Easter is a kind of "calling card" of the holiday. A troparion in the church tradition is a short chant that expresses the essence of the celebrated event. The joyful hymn, announcing the resurrection of Christ, sounds for the first time on Easter night, when the procession, having circled around the temple, stops at its closed doors.

The closed doors of the temple designate the “closed tomb” - the burial cave in which the body of the Savior was laid.

At dawn on the first day after Saturday (now we call this day of the week Sunday in memory of the resurrection of Christ), when the myrrh-bearing women approached the tomb to anoint the body of their Teacher and Lord with incense, it turned out that the heavy stone that closed the entrance to the burial cave, rolled off. The tomb is empty: there are only burial sheets in which the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped. Christ Himself is risen!

joyful song "Christ is Risen…" repeated many times in church services throughout the forty days of Easter. The news of the resurrection of the Savior is proclaimed to all peoples in all corners of the earth, and in Orthodox churches one can hear the singing of the Easter troparion in different languages.

In one of his sermons, Saint Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) discussed the meaning of the Pascha troparion:

What is this amazing troparion of the greatest of holidays, so dear to us and so incomprehensible to non-Christians, causing even their ridicule?

Can fire be put out by fire? Can darkness be illuminated by darkness? Can evil be defeated by evil? Of course not.

Like is not destroyed by like, but only by the opposite. Fire is extinguished by water, darkness is dispersed by light, evil is overcome by good.

And yet, contrary to this universal law, Christ trampled down death by His death.

What kind of death? Spiritual death. That death, the essence of which is estrangement from Christ-God, Who is Love, the Way, Truth and Life. Spiritual death is the rejection of the path of goodness, love and truth, and the preference for it of another path - the path of evil, hatred and lies.

And this path is from the devil, the enemy of Christ, for he is the father of lies, hatred and evil. So, spiritual death is from the devil.

This death was trampled down by Christ with an immeasurable and inexhaustible stream of Divine love, poured out from the cross of Golgotha. The devil's hatred for the human race is overcome by God's love for him.

Thus, the universal law has not been violated, according to which like cannot be overcome by like, but only by the opposite, and it is true that Christ trampled death by His death.

The prince of the power of the air is bound by the cross of Christ (Eph. 2:2), and those who love Christ are given strength to fight against him and a mighty defense against him.

No less surprising is the second part of the troparion: "and to those in the tombs bestowing life."

Not only amazing, but also the Divine light of the most precious hope illuminates our hearts. If Christ is resurrected, then we will be resurrected in our bodies. For He rose from the dead as the firstborn of the dead, initiating the general resurrection.

"For as death is through a man, so is the resurrection of the dead through a man.

As in Adam all die, so in Christ all shall be made alive" (1 Cor. 15:21-22).

So, not only spiritual, but also bodily death, Christ abolished with His cross and resurrection. But this is already entirely the work of the omnipotence of God, and we do not need to reason about this according to the laws of nature, for they were also created by the Creator of everything, and He is free to act not according to them, but according to the unknown laws of His Divine mind and will.

Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, who delivered us from spiritual death and bodily destruction.

Why is the song “Christ is risen!” so sweet?

“Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs”
This solemn song is now on the lips of all of us. And in churches, and in houses, and in meetings, and in solitude, we sing it with sweetness, we repeat it, and we cannot get enough of singing it.
But a person reflecting on his condition can here say: “If our death is trampled on by Christ’s death, then why do we fear death and die? When we lie down in the coffin, we are no longer death, but it tramples us down.
To resolve this doubt, so that it does not interfere with our real joy, it will be enough for us to know what kind of death God determined for our sinning forefather. How much did Christ, our Savior, who died for us and rose again, diminish its power? And what is the rest of her power over us worth?
The transgression of the commandment of God by Adam was so grievous that one bodily death was not enough to punish this crime, but after it, according to the righteous and incorruptible judgment of God, the death of the soul followed. Bodily death consisted in the corruption of the body, spiritual death in the corruption of the soul.
Bodily death was also hard for a person. The king and ruler of the universe, belittled by “the little one from the angels” (Ps. 8; 6), to get bread in the sweat of his face, and often instead of bread, reap thorns and thistles from the earth; all his life to fight with diseases, with misfortunes, with every kind of misfortune, and finally turn into dust and decay, according to this immutable definition: “as the earth thou art, and to the earth thou shalt return” (Gen. 3; 19), - truly, this is a difficult lot and sad!
But spiritual corruption for him was an incomparably greater punishment. The soul that has moved away from God is subjected to much more severe suffering. Falls weaken it more than sickness weakens our body. Puffed up with pride, she suffers more dangerously than the body from water sickness. Inflamed by violent fornication, it hurts more desperately than the body from the flame. Seething with envy, hatred and enmity, it harbors in itself the most contagious poison, more deadly than the deadly plague. In a word, because of her sins, she became abominable before the eyes of God, striking the smell of her Creator with their stench; and therefore she became rejected into the fire, which never quenches. And this was precisely the most terrible fear of death for sinners. If we were subject only to bodily death and only to corruption of our flesh for our sins, then it would be more convenient to bear such a punishment.
What has the Son of God done for us? How did He trample on our death, our cruel tyrant? I answer: The Son of God took upon Himself our corruptible body, paid with His sufferings to the righteous Judgment of God for our transgressions, as the prophet foretold about this, saying: “The same ulcer was for the sins of nakedness and we were tormented for our iniquities” (Is. 53; 5) . Having thus paid for our sins, He freed us from eternal punishment and endless fire, and, moreover, according to His immeasurable kindness, He made us sons of God and heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven (Rom. 8; 17). So, how little has the power over the sinners of greedy and insatiable death diminished here? Truly, we must exclaim with the Apostle: “Where is thee, death, sting? Where are you, hell, victory? (1 Cor. 15; 55). Where are your prisoners and victims?
True, we are still left with sickness and bodily misery; remained in the lot of inclination to sin, which are the ailments of the soul; the most bodily death and its fear remained in inheritance. But what? These illnesses and sufferings for us, who believe in Christ, who died for us and rose again, are nothing but the eradication of the evil of sin, which has remained in us and has been left for sure, so that we, striving against sin, become like Christ our Savior in suffering Him to be worthy of a victorious crown, honors and rewards prepared for those who “struggled with a good fight” (2 Tim. 4; 7-8). A natural son inherits from his father only by obedience to his will and showing the likeness of the father in himself: all the more so for us, who have become the sons of God and heirs of His Kingdom, the Son of God, who has adopted us as God, must become like in sufferings and deeds against sins.

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, he will live" [Jn. 11, 25]. Here came for us the longed-for, saving holiday, the day of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This holiday is a pledge of peace, a source of reconciliation, the extermination of enemies, the destruction of death, the death of the devil. Today, people have united with the angels and, overlaid with flesh, along with disembodied Forces sing songs of praise to God. Today the Lord has broken the gates of hell and destroyed the very face of death. But what am I saying, the face of death? He even changed the very name of death: now it is no longer called death, but calmness and sleep,” writes St. John Chrysostom.

The feast of the Holy Resurrection of Christ, Easter, is the main event of the year for Orthodox Christians and the largest Orthodox holiday. The word "Easter" came to us from the Greek language and means "transition", "deliverance". On this day, we celebrate the deliverance through Christ the Savior of all mankind from slavery to the devil and the gift of life and eternal bliss to us. Just as our redemption was accomplished by Christ's death on the cross, so by His Resurrection was granted to us immortal life.

The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of our faith. It is that first, most important, great truth, with the proclamation of which the apostles began their sermon. Just as our sins were cleansed by Christ's death on the cross, so eternal life is given to us by His resurrection. Therefore, for believers, the resurrection of Christ is a source of constant joy, unceasing jubilation, reaching its peak on the feast of the holy Christian Pascha.

On Easter night, from April 11 to 12, His Grace Ephraim, Bishop of Berdyansk and Primorsky, concelebrated by the clergy of the cathedral, led the solemn Easter service in the main church of the diocese - the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in Berdyansk.

The Easter service began with the midnight office with the reading of the canon Great Saturday"By the Wave of the Sea" - one of the saddest hymns of Great Lent, which glorifies the passion and burial of Christ. However, the faithful listen to him no longer with sorrow, but with joyful anticipation of the moment of Christ's resurrection.

During the singing of the words of the katavasia of the 9th song “I will rise and be glorified,” the clergy transferred the Holy Shroud to the altar through the Royal Doors, and lays it on the throne, where it will remain until the feast of the Passover.

Easter matins, "the joy of the Resurrection of our Lord from the dead", began at 12 o'clock in the morning. At the approach of midnight, the Archpastor and all the clergy in full vestments, to the sound of bells, while singing the stichera: “Thy Resurrection, Christ the Savior, the angels sing in heaven, and vouchsafe us on earth with a pure heart to glorify Thee” made a procession around cathedral.

The procession opens the most joyful holiday - the Bright Resurrection of Christ, this is the procession of the Church towards the resurrected Savior. The Church, as a spiritual bride, goes, as the sacred hymns say, "with merry feet to meet the coming Christ from the tomb, like a bridegroom." The festive Easter service in the cathedral began with Easter matins. Having bypassed the temple, the procession stopped in front of behind closed doors, as in front of the entrance to the cave of the Holy Sepulcher.

The archpastor and the clergy sang the joyful Paschal troparion three times: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and bestowing life on those in the tombs” and also the verses of the ancient prophecy of St. King David: “Let God arise and scatter His enemies ...”, after which the church doors opened, and procession with the joyful news of the Resurrection of Christ, he goes to the temple, just as the myrrh-bearing women went to Jerusalem to announce to the disciples about the Resurrection of the Lord.

The Divine Liturgy of Paschal Matins consists predominantly of the singing of the canon. This majestic and solemn chant in honor of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and His divine majesty is a real masterpiece of Christian liturgical poetry. It belongs to the pen of the great teacher of the Church, theologian and hymnographer St. John of Damascus, who managed to combine in this work both the lofty patristic instructions about Christ's resurrection and the joyful spiritual feelings of God-loving believers.

The cathedral was overflowing with believers who came to glorify the Resurrection of Christ. In the eyes of people - a special joy, all the lamps and candlesticks are burning ... "Christ is risen from the dead! .."

There were many children among the parishioners. On other days at this time, the children are already dreaming, but on the eve of the Easter holiday, nothing can force the children to stay at home. You can see in their eyes how much pleasure it gives them to participate in the festive “adult” night service.

At the end of the Paschal matins, after singing: “Let us embrace each other…”, Vladyka Ephraim, having christened with the clergy, went to the temple to congratulate all the faithful on the feast of Christ's Resurrection. His Eminence handed over an Easter red egg to everyone who came to the temple, a sign of the rebirth of all living things, awakening.

The custom of giving each other colored eggs for Easter dates back to the 1st century AD. Church tradition says that in those days it was customary, when visiting the emperor, to bring him a gift. And when the poor disciple of Christ, Saint Mary Magdalene came to Rome to the emperor Tiberius with a sermon of faith, she presented Tiberius with a simple chicken egg.

Tiberius did not believe Mary's story about the Resurrection of Christ and exclaimed: “How can someone rise from the dead? It is as impossible as if this egg suddenly turned red. Immediately before the eyes of the emperor, a miracle happened - the egg turned red, testifying to the truth of the Christian faith.

At the end of Matins, the Ruling Archpastor read the Announcement of St. John Chrysostom, beginning with the words: "Whoever is pious and God-loving, may he enjoy this good and bright celebration...". The saint in his Easter creation calls on everyone to rejoice in the resurrected Savior: “Rich and poor, rejoice with each other. Temperance and laziness, honor the day. Fasting and not fasting, rejoice today…” and proclaims the eternal victory of Christ over death and hell: “Where is your sting, death? Where is your, hell, victory? Christ is risen, and thou hast fallen. Christ is risen, and the demons have fallen. Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen, and life lives. Christ is risen, and the dead are not alone in the tomb.”

After the solemn Paschal Matins, the Paschal Hours were followed, which consist of Paschal hymns glorifying the joyful event of Christ's resurrection.

On Paschal night, Vladyka Ephraim, concelebrated by the clergy of the cathedral, celebrated the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the open Royal Doors, which are open from the beginning of Matins and do not close for a whole week as a sign that Jesus Christ has forever opened the gates of the Heavenly Kingdom to us.

Many believers, on this day, wish to partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ in order to take part in a joint meal with the risen Christ.

After the ambo prayer, His Eminence consecrated the artos. The word artos is translated from Greek as "leavened bread" - consecrated bread common to all members of the Church, otherwise - whole prosphora.

The use of artos begins from the very beginning of Christianity. On the fortieth day after the Resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven. The disciples and followers of Christ found comfort in prayerful recollections of the Lord, they remembered His every word, every step and every action. When they came together for a common prayer, they, remembering the Last Supper, partake of the Body and Blood of Christ. Preparing an ordinary meal, they left the first place at the table to the invisibly present Lord and put bread on this place.

Having consecrated the artos, Vladyka Ephraim read a prayer for the consecration of Paschal food. At the end of a long fast, the Church allows you to rejoice in the bright Resurrection not only spiritually, but also bodily, blessing the consumption of foods that were forbidden during fasting.

At the end of the festive Liturgy, the Ruling Archpastor read the Paschal Epistle of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, and then congratulated everyone on the bright day of the Resurrection of the Lord.

At the end of the Paschal service, Vladyka Ephraim consecrated Easter cakes, Easter cakes and eggs for the Easter meal of the faithful, greeting everyone with the words “Christ is risen! ".

With the blessing of His Grace Ephraim, Bishop of Berdyansk and Primorsky, the press service of the Berdyansk diocese and the Yug TV channel conducted a live television broadcast of the nightly Easter service from the main church of the diocese. The liturgy was commented in Russian by the head of the diocesan department for family affairs, Priest Alexander Rekotov, and in Ukrainian by the press secretary of the diocese, Oleg Zotov.

Hours of Holy Easter and the whole Bright Week:

Easter clock

During the entire Bright (Easter) week, instead of morning and evening prayers, they sing (or read - but, as you can easily see, the peculiarity of this week is that, if possible, everything is sung!) Easter hours.

The descent of Christ into hell. Icon, XIII century. Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs(Thrice).

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the Only Sinless One. We worship Thy Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy Holy Resurrection: Thou art our God, unless we know Thee otherwise, we call Thy name. Come all faithful, let us worship the holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, the joy of the whole world has come by the Cross. Always blessing the Lord, let us sing of His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

Do you- except you. See you come- for behold, she has come.

Don’t we know anything else for You, we call Your name…- the words Holy Scripture: Lord, do you not know anything else; We call Your name (Is. 26:13; see also Ode 5 of the canon for Communion).

We sing and glorify Your Resurrection: You are our God, do we not know You otherwise, we call Your name ...

“This expresses the feeling of perfect repose in the Savior. And how natural it is, especially now. In the resurrected Jesus Christ, a person - the poorest wanderer on earth - is delivered from sin, hell, death, the devil, adopted by God, honored by the deification of his nature ... If the curse is destroyed and sin, if death is trampled on, if hell is destroyed and the head of the primordial enemy is erased, then what else to fear? If so much strength is manifested, then will the Lord shorten His blessed right hand after this?

Ipakoy, voice 4

Having anticipated the morning even about Mary, and having found the stone rolled away from the tomb, I hear from the Angel: in the light of the everlasting Existing One, with the dead, what are you looking for like a man? See the grave sheets; and preach to the world, as the Lord has risen, who kills death, as he is the Son of God, who saves the human race.

anticipating the morning- arrived before dawn. More about Mary- those who were with Mary (Mary's companions). I hear- heard. Tetsyte- run, hurry. Preach- announce. Yako is- because He.

"We hear in the Paschal canon the voice of the Angel to the myrrh-bearing women: Tetsyte and preach to the world, as the Lord has risen, killing death. The voice of the Angel in relation to us means: live so that your whole life is a single word: "Christ is Risen!" and so that, looking at you, the whole world, both Christian and non-Christian, would say: Truly Christ is risen, because apparently he lives in one or the other, apparently forces work for Him. the Risen Lord through imitation of Him and assimilation of the power of His resurrection.

Saint Theophan the Recluse

Kontakion, tone 8

Even if you descended into the grave, Immortal, but you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as the Conqueror, Christ God, prophesying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostle, give resurrection to the fallen.

Asche- although. Prophetic- said.

Also the troparia, the voice is the same:

In the tomb of the flesh, in hell with a soul like God, in paradise with a thief, and on the Throne you were, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, fulfilling everything, Indescribable.

Do everything- fulfilling everything by Himself. undescribed- ineffable (indescribable).

Troparion in the most short words gives a striking image of the fullness of the Godhead - Christ, who is inseparably abiding with the Father and the Spirit, rests his body in the tomb, descends in soul into hell and brings out the souls of the righteous, and according to His true words to the thief, now abides with him in paradise (Luke 23:43) – and, filling everything with Himself, brings the Universe to fullness, fulfills the work of salvation.

The Apostle Paul, citing a psalm verse, says: It is said: having entered on high, he took captive captives and gave gifts to men (Ps. 67:19). And "ascended," what does it mean, if not that He also descended before into the lower parts of the earth? Descending, He is also ascended above all heavens, in order to fulfill everything (Eph. 4: 8-10).

Like the Life-bearer, like the most beautiful of paradise, truly, the brightest of all royal chambers, Christ, Thy tomb, the source of our resurrection.

Highly consecrated Divine village, rejoice, for you have given joy, Mother of God, to those who call: blessed are you in women, O All-blameless Lady.

reddest- the most beautiful. Vyshnyago- the Almighty. village- housing.

Like the Life-bearer, like the reddest of paradise ... The tomb of Christ appears before us as the bearer of Life (the Life-bearer), more beautiful than paradise, sparkling more than any royal palace! (Please note: the subject in this sentence - what is being said - is precisely the tomb of Christ, "Christ" - the appeal, we are talking to Christ about His tomb)

Lord have mercy(40 times).

The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Christ has risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs(Thrice).

On the days of the Paschal week, and even up to the giving of Pascha, before the meal, the troparion of Pascha is sung (or read), and after the meal, the merit of Pascha.

Zadostoynik (refrain and irmos of the 9th song of the Paschal canon):

An angel crying out of grace: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And pack the river: rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb, and raised up the dead; folks, have fun.

Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now and rejoice, Sione; You, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the uprising of Your Nativity.

Vopiyashe- proclaimed. Pack the river - I repeat. show off- rejoice, enjoy. Thy Christmas- Born by you.

Shine, shine, the new Jerusalem... By the new Jerusalem is meant the New Testament Church of Christ. Rejoice now and rejoice, Zion ... Under Zion (the mountain on the south side of Jerusalem, where the house of King David was, and later the chamber of the Last Supper, and the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles) in the New Testament, according to the interpretation of blessed Jerome, of course, the saints: they , standing on the pinnacle of the virtues, they form Zion, of which it is said: Its foundation is on the mountains of the saints. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the villages of Jacob (Ps. 87:2).

Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian

This prayer is read in the temple on Wednesday and Friday of the Cheese Week and throughout the Holy Forty Day, except for Saturdays and Sundays (if you follow the charter exactly, it is also read on some days and other multi-day fasts). During Great Lent (in the weeks) it should certainly be included in your cell rule; most naturally - at the end of morning and evening prayers, and, if possible, in the middle of the day.

Lord and Master of my life, the spirit of idleness, despondency, arrogance and idle talk, do not give me(Earth bow).

The spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love grant me to Your servant(Earth bow).

She, Lord the King, grant me to see my sins and do not condemn my brother, for you are blessed forever and ever, amen (bow to the earth).

my belly- my life. Lyubonachaliya- lust for power, love to rule over people. Behold- see.

God, cleanse me a sinner(12 times and the same number of small - waist - bows.)

And then the whole prayer: Lord and Master of my life...(and one prostration at the end.)

See the linen of the tomb, and preach to the world, as the Lord has arisen, killing death, as the Son of God, who saves the human race.

Even if you descended into the grave, Immortal, but you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as a conqueror, Christ God, prophesying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostle, give resurrection to the fallen.

She taught prayers, saved, protected,

And then she sobbed at the Cross, shed tears, lamented,

She suffered with her sweet Son.

In case you are waiting for good luck at work, ask Saint Tryphon for help. The texts of prayers for Easter can be found on this page.

Holy Martyr Tryphon, our quick helper. Be my helper and protector from evil demons and leader to the Kingdom of Heaven. Pray to the Almighty, may he give me the joy of work, may he always come near me and fulfill his plans.

Prayer for wealth and good luck

The Lord is my shepherd. I will not need anything: He makes me rest in miserable pastures and leads me to calm waters, strengthens my soul, guides me in the path of truth. If I walk in the idol of the shadow of death, I will not fear evil, because You are doubtful. You have prepared a table before me in view of my enemies, you have anointed my head with oil, my cup is overflowing. Thus, may Thy goodness accompany me throughout the days of my life, and I will abide in the house of the Lord for many days. Amen.

Prayer for marriage on Easter

In Orthodoxy, marriage is considered the duty and happiness of every girl. Only married woman can know the happiness of motherhood, give life to another person, continue the human race. What to do if time goes by, and the girl remains unmarried? Orthodox prayer will help here.

The text of the prayer for Easter for marriage

In order to enter into a strong, indestructible marriage "in heaven", a girl must pray for marriage on Easter. The text of such a prayer says that the girl completely trusts her fate to God, asking him to fill her heart with love. An unmarried girl asks the Lord to keep her chaste until the moment when her worthy groom, future husband, is found. She asks Jesus not to leave her lonely and give her a faithful life partner, give her a strong marriage and healthy offspring. In turn, the unmarried girl promises the Lord to be a hardworking housewife, a kind and loving mother, and a devoted wife.

Prayer of a girl for marriage

Oh, All-good Lord, I know that my great happiness depends on me loving You with all my soul and with all my heart, and on fulfilling Your holy will in everything.

Govern yourself, O my God, my soul and fill my heart: I want to please You alone, for You are the Creator and my God.

Save me from pride and pride: let reason, modesty and chastity adorn me.

Idleness is contrary to You and gives rise to vices, give me a desire for industriousness and bless my labors.

Since Your Law commands people to live in an honest marriage, then bring me, Holy Father, to this title sanctified by You, not to please my desire, but to fulfill Your destiny, for You Yourself said: it is not good for a man to be alone and, having created his wife as a helper, blessed them to grow, multiply and inhabit the earth.

Hear my humble prayer, from the depths of a girl's heart sent to you; give me an honest and pious spouse, so that in love with him and in harmony we glorify you, the merciful God: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Holy Great Martyr Catherine

O Saint Catherine, virgin and martyr, true bride of Christ! We pray to you, as if it were a special grace, that your Bridegroom, the Sweetest Jesus, had already received you: as if you had put to shame the temptations of the tormentor with your wisdom, you defeated fifty winds, and having drunk them with heavenly teachings to the light of true faith, you instructed you, so ask us this God's wisdom, Yes, and we, all the intrigues of the hellish tormentor, have dissolved, and despised the temptations of the world and the flesh, we will appear worthy of Divine glory, and to the expansion of our holy Orthodox faith we will become worthy vessels, and with you in the heavenly tabernacle of the Lord and Master of our Jesus Christ with the Father and the Holy Spirit praise and glorify forever and ever. Amen.

Righteous Philaret the Merciful

Troparion, tone 4:

Imitating Abraham in faith, following Job in patience, Father Philarete, you divided the good land to the poor and endured the deprivation of these courageously. For this sake, crowning the Ascetic with a bright crown, Christ our God, pray to Him that our souls be saved.

Truly, your worthy purchase is seen and wise to be judged by all those who are wise: you have given away the valley and the short-term, seeking the heavenly and eternal. The same and worthily acquired eternal glory, merciful Filarete.

Stikhira, voice 2:

Do good from God, says the Theologian, and you are from God, merciful Filaret. As if there is God, so is your work, hedgehog of good deeds, the latter by nature, yours by communion.

Easter Spells for Health and Good Luck

It is believed that conspiracies uttered during Holy Week and during the Easter week, they have the most powerful power. Orthodox Church does not welcome the passion for Easter conspiracies, but allows them to be pronounced in case of emergency. For example, there are conspiracies, the utterance of which on Easter helps to heal even the seriously ill. For each disease, there are special conspiracies, the texts of which are passed down from generation to generation.

Texts of conspiracies for Easter - Rites for health and help from diseases

Many conspiracies uttered on Easter and Holy Week have a powerful healing power. When pronouncing their texts, you need to perform various rituals, examples of which you will find on this page. For example, if you want to talk about bone pain, you should buy soap at the beginning of Holy Week, its first day. Paying for the purchase, the change must be left to the seller and not thank him. When pronouncing conspiracies for Easter, you can use willow branches consecrated on Palm Sunday. To do this, you need to touch the patient with twigs and pronounce the words of the conspiracy. Willow buds and the branches themselves fall off at this time, otherwise you yourself can get sick. You can also talk about diseases when painted easter egg. At the same time, a testicle is rolled over the patient, saying words about Christ's resurrection. Such a conspiracy is pronounced thirty-three times. To help a seriously ill person, you need to come to the temple with a consecrated painted egg and ask the priest to christenate with you. After that, you should go to the icon Holy Mother of God and ask for the healing of the "bar of God" suffering from an illness. To attract wealth and good luck, on the third day of the holiday, you need to come to the temple very first and light a candle at the crucifixion of Christ. When pronouncing the words of the conspiracy, you need to cross yourself.

The feast of the Resurrection of Christ is called Easter after the Old Testament holiday established to commemorate the deliverance of the Jews from Egyptian slavery. In accordance with the event of the Resurrection of Christ commemorated on this holiday, the name Easter in the Christian Church received a special meaning and began to denote the passage from death to life, from earth to heaven. “The word Pascha,” says St. Ambrose of Milan, “means passing away. This feast, the most solemn of feasts, is called this way in the Old Testament Church - in remembrance of the exodus of the sons of Israel from Egypt and at the same time their deliverance from slavery, and in the New Testament Church - in a sign that the Son of God Himself, through the Resurrection from the dead, came from this world to the Heavenly Father, from earth to heaven, freeing us also from eternal death and the work of the enemy and giving us "the power to become children of God" (John 1, 12) ".

In the series of the Lord's holidays, the feast of Easter occupies a central place, and in the series of all Christian holidays, it "exceeds all the celebrations, even those of Christ and in honor of Christ, as much as the sun surpasses the stars."

All Divine services and church rites of this holiday are especially solemn and imbued with one feeling of joy about the Risen One.

Long before midnight, believers in bright, festive clothes flock to the temple and reverently await the upcoming Easter Celebration. The clergy are dressed in all the most illustrious rank. Just before midnight, a solemn Annunciation announces the onset of the great minute of the Light-bearing Feast of the Resurrection of Christ. Priests with a cross, lamps and incense come out of the altar and, together with the people, like the myrrh-bearing women who went to the tomb in the morning, go around the circle of the church singing “Thy Resurrection, Christ the Savior, the angels sing in heaven, and vouchsafe us on earth with a pure heart to You glorify." At this time, from the height of the bell tower, as from heaven, a jubilant Easter chime is pouring. All those praying come with burning candles, thus expressing the spiritual joy of the Light-bearing Feast.

The procession stops at the closed western gates of the temple, as if at the door of the tomb of Christ. And here, according to the usual exclamation, the priest, like the Angel who announced to the myrrh-bearing women at the tomb about the Resurrection of Christ, is the first to proclaim a joyful song: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs." This song is repeated three times by the clergy and the choir.

Then the primate proclaims the verses of the ancient prophecy of the holy King David: "May God rise again and scatter his enemies ...", and all the people (chorus) in response to each verse sing: "Christ is risen from the dead ..."

Finally, the primate, holding a cross with a three-candlestick in his hands, with their movement traces the sign of the cross against the closed doors of the temple, they open, and the jubilant host, as once myrrh-bearing to the apostles, enters the church, flooded with the light of all lamps and lamps, and announces it with a song: " Christ is risen from the dead!"

The subsequent Divine Liturgy of the Paschal Matins consists of the singing of the canon composed by St. John of Damascus. The songs of this canon are separated by the repeated "Christ is risen from the dead!". During the singing of the canon, the clergy with a cross and a censer, preceded by lamps, go around the whole church, filling it with femiam, and joyfully greet everyone with the words: “Christ is risen,” to which the believers joyfully answer: “Truly, He is risen!”. The repeated departures of the clergy from the altar are reminiscent of the frequent appearances of the Lord to His disciples after the Resurrection.

At the end of Matins, after the singing: “Let us embrace each other, brothers! And forgive us all on the resurrection for those who hate us” - all believers begin to greet each other. The joyful Paschal greeting reminds us of the state of the apostles, in which, when the news of the Resurrection of Christ suddenly spread, they said to each other with amazement and delight: "Christ is Risen!" and answered: "Truly Risen!" Mutual kissing is an expression of love and reconciliation with each other, in memory of our universal forgiveness and reconciliation with God through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Then the word of John Chrysostom is read.

After Matins, the Hours and Liturgy are served immediately, with the opening Royal Doors, which are open from the beginning of Matins and do not close for a whole week as a sign that Jesus Christ has forever opened the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven to us. At the Liturgy, the first conception of the Gospel of John the Theologian is read, beginning with the words "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God ...", in which the Divinity of our Redeemer is depicted. If the Liturgy is celebrated by a council of priests, then the Gospel is read on different languages, as a sign that all the peoples on earth "came out broadcasting" about the Lord.

Special Easter rites include the blessing of artos, "in honor and glory and remembrance of the glorious Resurrection" of our Lord Jesus Christ. Under the name of artos is meant a prosphora with an image on it of a cross crowned with thorns, as a sign of Christ's victory over death, or with an image of the Resurrection of Christ. The word "artos" is Greek; translated into Russian, it means "bread". The historical origin of artos is as follows.

The apostles, accustomed to eating a meal with the Risen Lord, after His Ascension to heaven, remembering His cherished words: "I am with you all the days", felt with living faith the invisible presence of the Lord in their congregations. Starting the meal, they left unoccupied the place on which Jesus Christ reclined with them, and on the table opposite that place they placed, as if for Him, a piece of bread, and each time after the meal, giving thanks to God, raised this piece of bread, saying, "Christ is risen." When then the disciples of Jesus Christ dispersed into different countries in order to preach the gospel, they, if possible, tried to observe this custom: each of the holy apostles, in whatever country they were, in the new society of Christ's followers, starting a meal, left a place and a part of the bread in honor of the Savior, and at the end of the meal, together with with them he glorified the Risen Lord, raising up the part of the bread laid in memory of Him. Thus this custom was preserved in the Church, and after a number of centuries it has come down to our time. Artos, placed on Holy Pascha in the temple before the eyes of the faithful, should serve as a similar reminder of the invisible presence of the Risen Lord with us.

At the same time, the artos reminds us that Jesus Christ, by death on the cross and resurrection, became the true bread of the animal. This meaning of the artos is revealed in the prayer for its consecration. In addition, in this prayer, the priest, invoking the blessing of God on the consecrated artos, asks the Lord to heal every illness and disease and give health to all who eat the artos.

Gospel of John

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. It was in the beginning with God. Everything came into being through Him, and without Him nothing came into being that came into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

There was a man sent from God; his name is John. He came for a witness, to testify of the Light, that all might believe through him. He was not a light, but was sent to testify of the Light.

There was a true Light that enlightens every person who comes into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to his own, and his own did not receive him. And to those who received Him, to those who believe in His name, He gave the power to become children of God, who were born neither from blood, nor from the desire of the flesh, nor from the desire of a man, but from God.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father. John testifies of Him and, exclaiming, says: This was the One of whom I said that He who comes after me has become ahead of me, because he was before me. And from His fullness we all received grace upon grace, for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has revealed.

John 1, 1-18

About Holy Easter

Now the salvation of the world - the visible and invisible world. Christ has risen from the dead; rise up with Him also; Christ in His glory, you also ascend; Christ from the tomb, - free yourself from the bonds of sin; the gates of hell are opened, death is destroyed, the old Adam is laid aside, a new one is made. Easter, Lord's Easter! And I will also say in honor of the Trinity: Easter! She is our holiday celebration and celebration of celebrations; surpasses all celebrations, even those of Christ and in honor of Christ, as much as the sun surpasses the stars.

Saint Gregory the Theologian

Today, by the Resurrection of Christ, the underworld is opened, the earth is renewed by the baptism of the catechumens, heaven is opened by the Holy Spirit. The open hell brings back the dead, the renewed earth brings forth those who are resurrected, the opened heaven welcomes those who ascend. The underworld returns the prisoners to the heavenly, the earth sends those buried to heaven, heaven presents them to the Lord.

Saint Ambrose of Milan

Wisdom has said that on the day of rejoicing, disaster is forgotten. The present day makes us forget the first sentence pronounced on us. Then we fell from heaven to earth: now the Heavenly One has made us heavenly. Then death reigned through sin: now life again has dominion through righteousness. Then one opened the entrance of death: and now one brings in life again. Then through death we fell away from life: now death is abolished by life. Then from shame they hid under the fig tree: now with glory they approached the tree of life. Then, for disobedience, we were expelled from paradise; now, for faith, we are led into paradise. What should we do after this? What else but to roar like thunders and hills, about which the prophet proclaimed, saying: the mountains will rise like rams, and the hills like lambs of sheep. So come, let us rejoice in the Lord! He crushed the strength of the enemy and hoisted for us the sign of the victory of the cross, hitting the enemy. Let us exclaim with a voice of joy, with which the victors usually exclaim over the corpses of the vanquished.

Saint Gregory of Nyssa

Here comes for us the longed-for, saving holiday, the day of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This holiday is a pledge of peace, a source of reconciliation, the extermination of enemies, the destruction of death, the death of the devil. Today, people have united with the Angels, and those overlaid with flesh, coupled with the incorporeal Forces, lift up songs of praise to God. Today the Lord has broken the gates of hell and destroyed the very face of death. But what am I saying, the face of death? He even changed the very name of death: it is no longer called death, but calm and sleep.

Saint John Chrysostom

Easter is a worldwide and greatest holiday... For the Resurrection of Christ radically changed both the earth, and hell, and Heaven... The Risen Lord sent the Holy Spirit to earth and sanctified Christ's Church on earth - the pillar and affirmation of the Truth, which will be on earth until the end of the age, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it... The soul of the Lord descended into hell after His death, crushed hell and rose again... The Resurrected Christ ascended into heaven and founded the Church there, into which the souls of all the righteous have entered and continue to enter... The Church united heaven and earth. We have one Church - earthly and heavenly. The Lord has done everything for us; let us not be traitors and murderers of ourselves. Let us purify and sanctify our souls in the sacraments of the Holy Church.

Saint Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow

Word of St. John Chrysostom on the day of Holy Pascha

If anyone is pious and loves God, let him enjoy this bright celebration. If anyone is a wise servant, let him be filled with the joy of his Lord. If anyone is weary of fasting, let him now accept his reward. If anyone has worked from the first hour, let him now receive his due reward. If anyone appears after the sixth hour, let him not doubt, for he loses nothing. If anyone delays until the ninth hour, let him come without any fear. If anyone has come only at the eleventh hour, let him not be afraid of slowing down, since the generous Master accepts the last one equally with the first; gives rest at the eleventh hour to those who come, as well as to those who worked from the first hour; he has mercy on the latter, and takes care of the former; he pays to that, and gives to him; and he appreciates the work and praises the location. Therefore, enter all into the joy of our Lord: and you will receive the first and second rewards, rich and poor, rejoice with one another. Respect the day, temperate and negligent! Fasting and non-fasting - rejoice today! The meal is full of food! Enjoy everyone! Taurus is huge: let no one leave hungry! Everyone enjoy the wealth of goodness! Let no one weep from poverty, because a common kingdom has appeared! Let no one mourn over sins: forgiveness has shone forth from the tomb! Let no one be afraid of death, because the death of the Savior has freed us! He who was seized by her trampled her; he who descended into hell captured hell, grieved him, who tasted of His flesh. This is what Isaiah foresaw when he called out: hell, He speaks, be upset(Isaiah 14:9). When he met you in hell, he was upset because he was defeated, he was upset because he suffered ridicule. He took the body, but found God, took the earth, but met the sky, took what he saw, but attacked what he did not see. Death! where is your pity? hell! where is your victory?(1 Cor. 15:55) Christ is risen, and you are cast out! Christ is risen, and the demons have fallen! Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is risen, and there is not a single dead in the tomb! Christ, risen from the dead, became the firstfruits of the dead. To Him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
