Gluing of fabric wallpaper. The process of gluing textile wallpaper

  • 15.06.2019

Before you start gluing wallpaper, you should decide what tools and materials you need:

    Plaster putty

    Water-based paint

    Adhesive for textile wallpaper

    Sharp scissors

    Rubber roller

    Short hair roller

    A piece of soft tissue

Surface preparation

The preparation of the surface for gluing textile wallpaper should be carried out more thoroughly, since it must be perfectly clean and dry. Otherwise, appearance the pasted textile wallpaper may be damaged.

First of all, old wallpaper, paint and fiberglass should be removed from the surface. If the wall was covered in the form of enamel, then it needs to be roughened with trisodium phosphate. After that, the surface of the wall should be rinsed with clean water.

All defects present on the surface must be removed. Then the walls should be (use a deep penetration primer) and allow time to dry.

After that, so that the textile wallpaper does not sag after drying, it is necessary to apply an oil-based emulsion paint on the walls in one layer.

Important! Make sure that the surface on which the wallpaper will be glued does not differ in tone. You can use a recycled lining as a backing.

Please note that the backing must be glued horizontally. Otherwise, the backing joints will be visible through the wallpaper.

Gluing technology

When gluing textile wallpaper, first of all, it should be remembered that the room temperature should be from +18 to +25 degrees, and the air humidity should be 40%. The moisture on the surface itself should be 8%.

Cutting out the wallpaper and marking the wall

First you need to check that the color, pattern, pile direction and batch number are the same on all rolls.

Such wallpapers should be cut in the same way as ordinary paper ones: measure the height of the wall, add 5 cm to the allowance and cut off strips of the appropriate length, adjusting to the pattern.

Important! Use sharp scissors to cut the wallpaper!

Then mark the wall.

Important! Use only a simple pencil to mark the wall surfaces and strips of wallpaper, otherwise stains will remain on the wallpaper.

When you have made the markings on the wall and cut off all strips of wallpaper, you should write on each strip the number according to which it will be glued. After that, attach the wallpaper to the wall to check the drawing.

Before applying the glue, decide on the wrong side of your wallpaper.

Important! Insofar as textile wallpaper require a more scrupulous attitude to themselves, for gluing them you should use a special glue, which is of high quality and lack of dyes. You can use vinyl glue, in which the water content is low. And, most importantly, don't thin the glue.

Important! After covering the canvases, it is necessary to give the glue time to soak into the wallpaper. At the same time, fold the strip of wallpaper with the missed sides inward (one side ⅔ length, and the other ⅓). Then roll the strips into rolls and leave for 5-10 minutes.

Do not bend the wallpaper, otherwise folds will form on them, which, later, will be visible on the walls. And remember that the canvases should be spread strictly in one layer so that the material does not swell.

Important! If you use non-woven textile wallpaper, the glue is applied directly to the wall. Thus, your wallpaper will not deform after drying and will keep it clean.

Start gluing the wallpaper from the corner and do not forget to observe the direction and coincidence of the pattern. To facilitate this process, markings can be applied to the surface of the wall.

Important! Textile wallpaper should be glued only end-to-end.

To stick the first canvas on the wall, you need to: make an allowance of 2.5-3 cm on the ceiling, press the center of the wallpaper strip with a rubber roller, and then smooth it along the sides to remove air and irregularities. At the same time, it is necessary to smooth it smoothly and without pressing hard on the wallpaper. You should not perform the process of smoothing textile wallpaper with your hands or a rag.

If in the process on front side glue has gotten into the wallpaper, clean it with a damp sponge. In this case, all movements must be carried out strictly vertically. The allowance that remains near the baseboard must be cut off with a sharp knife.

Subsequent strips of wallpaper are glued in the same way as the first one.

Drying

It will take at least 24-48 hours for the textile wallpaper to dry completely (the exact time will be indicated on the glue package). The room must be free of drafts during drying and the temperature must be kept constant.

Textile wallpaper without seams

There are also textile wallpapers without seams. This type of wallpaper is glued horizontally. Some wallpapers of this type are 3.1 m wide and 100 m long.

Caring for textile wallpaper

Textile wallpaper should be taken care of very carefully. To remove dry dirt and dust from them, use a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush.

If any stains appear on the surface of the wallpaper, use a damp piece of cloth or a sponge dampened with warm water... You can also use a mild soap solution or detergent.

Important! Remove dirt without excessive friction using a slightly damp sponge or cloth. After that, blot the cleaned area with a dry cloth.

We think that after reading this article, you can easily cope with pasting this kind of wallpaper. But, if you still have questions, you can watch the following video.

On such wallpapers, the pattern is applied using ordinary paint, as well as special with the so-called thermal rise. It contains a component that increases in size when heated in special chambers and creates a relief structure. On wallpaper where the pattern is embroidered with interlacing threads, the seam will most likely be visible.

SEPARATE PANNOS

The most expensive type of textile wallpaper. One of the most popular wallpaper manufacturers in this class is the English company "DeGOURNAU". These panels consist of separate silk fabrics, which are not repeated among themselves, but continue each other, creating a single picture. The images are applied by hand by professional artists.

Needless to say, any thing self made require special treatment. Exclusive expensive panels are practically works of art, the work with which requires not only the utmost accuracy, but also impeccable technique.

This type of material is supposed to be glued not immediately to the wall, but to a pre-glued non-woven backing. It makes the substrate even, white, evenly absorbent and prevents cracking.

DISADVANTAGES OF TEXTILE WALLPAPERS

The main disadvantages of textile wallpaper include:

  • they are quite easily soiled and attract dust;
  • such wallpapers only need dry cleaning.

Many manufacturers of textile wallpaper have taken care of eliminating this disadvantage by applying special antistatic impregnations and impregnations against fading.

HOW TO CLEAN TEXTILE WALLPAPERS

After renovation, there is always a surplus of unused wallpaper. If scraps of paper, vinyl and other simple types of wallpaper can be safely thrown away, then textiles (at least a small piece) are highly recommended to be left. The reason is very simple: if you accidentally stain the already pasted wallpaper, do not try to fix the situation right there on the wall. As we wrote earlier, textiles are a very delicate and delicate material. You can try to clean the dirt yourself with a so-called dry cleaning agent, for example, "Vanish". BUT! We strongly recommend that you first "practice" the pruning, otherwise, you risk only aggravating the situation.

It must be remembered that the surface of textile wallpaper is nothing more than an expensive fabric, which can be rendered unusable by any careless action. A drop of glue is enough to make the wallpaper hopelessly ruined.

SELECTION OF GLUE

Before starting work, you need to know which glue is best to use. The ready-made SEM-MURALE adhesive is ideal for this job.

Fabric wallpaper are distinguished by their sophistication and attractiveness. There are many types of this wall finish. We will talk about them in today's article ... We will also figure out how to properly apply fabric wallpaper on the wall and at the same time avoid annoying mistakes ...

Fabric wallpaper (textile wallpaper) Is the view finishing walls used indoors. The front part of which is a different fabric made of: linen, silk, jute, etc. The cost of the roll depends on the value of the material. Also, the price is influenced by the environmental friendliness of raw materials and the production method.

Types of fabric wallpaper

Fabric wallpapers are different types(see below), they are also divided depending on the basis, which is paper, non-woven or synthetic.

Synthetic fabric wallpaper. Foam rubber acts as a basis here, which is glued to the canvas. Quite difficult material when viewed from the point of view of installation. Due to the foam rubber, such wallpapers have increased sound insulation and thermal insulation.

Fabric wallpaper on a paper basis. The backing is made up of a variety of paper grades, making this wallpaper completely sustainable. But an additional problem arises when gluing: the paper gets wet under the action of the glue, and then it can shrink.

Non-woven fabric wallpaper... This base is mainly composed of cellulosic and chemical fibers. This gives non-woven fabric wallpaper an important advantage when gluing: it does not swell and shrink.

Jute wallpaper

Jute wallpaper made from a plant - jute, which will also germinate in India. This plant has long been used for the production of ropes and fabrics. There are paintable jute wallpapers.

  • UV resistant (do not fade in the sun);
  • Expensive finishing material;
  • Highly attracts dust;
  • Absorb odors;

Silk wallpaper

Silk wallpaper... It can be assumed that this wallpaper is composed of silk, but this is not entirely true. Due to the high cost of this material, there is a small amount of silk, and the rest is viscose.

  • They look very elegant and rich;
  • Keep warm well;
  • Natural materials are environmentally friendly;
  • They have noise suppressing characteristics;
  • Expensive finishing material;
  • Accumulates dust;
  • Capable of accumulating odors;
  • When exposed to moisture, they are destroyed;

In production linen wallpaper use linen or composite materials.

  • Aesthetic appearance;
  • Only dry cleaning is possible;
  • Some types of linen wallpaper have antiseptic properties;
  • They have heat and noise insulating properties;
  • Resistant to sunlight;
  • The cheapest type of fabric wallpaper (hence the most common);
  • Impossibility of wet cleaning;
  • Dust settles;
  • Accumulate foreign odors;

Production velor wallpaper very complex, which naturally affects the price. The visible front is made of nylon bristles.

  • They look quite expensive;
  • Pleasant to the touch;
  • Non-aggressive dry cleaning is possible;
  • Completely environmentally friendly material;
  • Quite good heat and noise insulation characteristics;
  • The most expensive type of textile wallpaper;

  • Absorb odors;

Can be divided into two groups:

  1. Natural felt wallpaper: the front part is made of felt fabric.
  2. Analogue of felt fabrics: instead of felt, other materials are used (microfiber, polyester, acrylic, polypropylene).

In stores they are sold not in rolls, but running meters... Pasting is carried out strictly according to the instructions.

  • The most exotic type of fabric wallpaper;
  • Possible wet cleaning(using detergents);
  • Good thermal insulation properties;
  • Good noise insulating properties;
  • Harmless (no harmful substances);
  • Absorb odors;
  • Relatively expensive;
  • There may be slight difficulties when gluing;
  • Dust collector;

- made of natural materials based on cotton threads and natural dyes. To create a "rich" interior, gold and silver threads are added to some types.

Fabric seamless wallpaper are made of dense and expensive fabric. Distinctive feature- this is the presence of only one seam connection, the whole room is pasted over with one sheet. Door and window openings are cut out only after the end of the pasting.

How to glue fabric wallpaper on a paper backing

Let's take a look at perhaps the most difficult type of textile wallpaper from the point of view of gluing - it is fabric wallpaper on a paper basis.

Fabric wallpaper is resistant to moisture and therefore cannot be washed. Here, the first difficulty in gluing the canvas immediately arises: excess glue that protrudes along the edges can stain the wallpaper and then they will be damaged. The second significant difficulty concerns the basis of the wallpaper, in this case we have it on paper. The paper base under the influence of the adhesive can expand, and then shrink.

Considering these features of the fabric material, let's start:

We take a special glue for fabric (textile) wallpaper and prepare it strictly following the attached instructions. Depending on the type of wallpaper, the glue is applied: on the canvas, or on the canvas and on the wall (for paper-based wallpaper).

We cut the wallpaper into canvases in length equal to the height of your wall with a small allowance. Next, using a roller, apply glue to interior canvases with an even thin layer, while leaving the edges of the canvas (about 1 cm.) without glue, in order to avoid it getting on the front part. In order to avoid uneven deoxidation of the canvas, we wet the remaining dry edges with water using an ordinary spray.

After waiting a couple of minutes, the prepared fabric can be glued to the wall. Smooth with a plastic spatula or roller. When working with a spatula, hand movements should be up or down (lateral movements can damage the texture of the wallpaper). We cut off the excess of the canvas (top and bottom) with a wide spatula and a sharp knife.

A similarly prepared second sheet (with edges moistened only with water) is applied to the wall with an overlap (1-2mm.) On the adjacent sheet. We catch the picture, and then we move the canvas from the first piece of wallpaper. All other actions are the same as when pasting the first fabric cloth.

Fabric or textile wallpaper is an elite finishing material. Working with him requires a different approach than with paper wallpaper... But the finish is too expensive, since professionals are usually invited to glue wallpaper on a fabric basis, who take a lot of money for this, although you can cope with the technology yourself.

Choice of materials

Already buying wallpaper on a fabric basis, you should take into account several nuances. They can be made up of panels, and they can also be seamless and in rolls. The first type of wallpaper is the most expensive. It is easier to work with seamless ones, and rolls are made on various bases: NON-WOVEN, non-woven, paper.

It is best to stick fabric wallpaper for walls on SEM-MURALE - a special glue for working with textile wallpaper. There are other compositions for textiles, ideally, buy wallpaper and glue from the same manufacturer. This guarantees the greatest strength of the connection.

Surface preparation

Usually professionals are attracted to work with this type of wallpaper. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the material is very demanding, so you need to handle it as carefully as possible. Secondly, it is required to cut wallpaper with an accurate calculation, and if there was no previous experience in cutting, it can be quite difficult to guess.

You need to glue wallpaper on walls on a fabric basis in the following sequence:

  1. Training.
  2. Cut the canvases.
  3. Wall markings.
  4. Bonding walls.
  5. Impregnation of wallpaper with glue.
  6. Direct bonding.

Preparation begins with the removal of the old finish. It is important to remove absolutely all of the finish, even if other areas are still holding well enough. The purpose of wall preparation is to achieve perfect flat surface as much as possible. Even small particles of cement or plaster caught under the glued layer can damage and tear the wallpaper.

When all old finish removed, the wall is thoroughly washed, debris and dust are removed, and then plastered. For plastering use a wide trowel to minimize unevenness. The dried surface is carefully sanded and primed with a deep penetration solution.

After that, they start cutting the canvas. The most convenient way to stick vertical stripes 1-1.5 m wide. Therefore, leave marks on the wall every one and a half meters in order to navigate along them in the future.

For example, a wall 5 m long. We measure out two segments of 1.5 m and one for 2 m, put marks. Check carefully and measure several times. The fewer seams and pieces, the better, but it should also be comfortable to work. Try to touch the front surface of the wallpaper with your hands as little as possible.

Now we measure the same segments on the canvas, but strictly adhering to two rules:

  • the seams must be straight and vertical;
  • the pattern must be adjusted so that the seam cannot be discerned on the finished pavement.

The gluing process

If the adhesive is thin, it is necessary to saturate the wallpaper. Usually, the manufacturer immediately notifies this on the packaging and gives instructions on how to do it correctly.

Apply a layer of glue to the wall from the corner, necessary to glue one piece. A segment is neatly attached from the upper corner so as to maintain the horizontal and verticality of its texture. Everything depends on the first canvas. further work... Then, along the plumb line, the canvas is smoothly smoothed and pressed against the wall with a medium plastic trowel. Rollers cannot be used for this. Make sure that the edge of the segment coincides with the previously marked markings on the wall.

Canvases can only be glued from top to bottom, without overlap, butt-to-joint. Smoothing the wallpaper with rags, rollers and hands is prohibited. Try to prevent glue from getting on the front side of the canvas - the surface will instantly deteriorate and cannot be restored.

Glueing fabric wallpaper on the walls is very careful. Wrinkles and creases should be avoided in directions other than top to bottom. If folds are formed, sticking the canvas just simply will not work.

Care

After cutting, you may be left with scraps of wallpaper that have not been used. In no case should you throw them away. Since the material is quite delicate and collects dust, sooner or later you will see that the walls lose their attractive appearance and need to be washed. It is impossible to do this with a wet rag with soapy water.

It is also impossible to brush off the dust with a brush and even more so to rub - the coating will become unusable. Therefore, use only dry cleaning products - there are plenty of these in any hardware store. Before you start cleaning the walls directly, try the product on the remaining shreds.

Varieties of wallpaper

The material of the front side can be quite diverse, since textile wallpapers in the interior have been successful since the days when only the royal estates could afford them:

  1. Silk. The base is paper, and the front side is viscose with the addition of silk. This composition significantly reduces the cost of the material than if it were made entirely of silk.
  2. Linen. This type of web consists of a paper base laminated with natural or fibrous blended yarn. As a result, a continuous linen fabric emerges on the surface.
  3. Felt. Material on a paper basis, the front side of which can be either felt or polymer. The latter does not differ to the touch from felt, resembling velor, but it is more wear-resistant - you can clean it with a washing vacuum cleaner.
  4. Jute. They are natural fabrics with linen on a paper basis. Can be cleaned by dry vacuuming, do not fade. They have good thermal insulation.
  5. Velor. Interesting view wallpaper, which is made from paper base covered with special paints. While they are still not dry, a special apparatus fills them with velor pile, and at the output canvases are obtained that imitate velvet, tapestries and other noble surfaces. The most capricious view, requiring constant cleaning, absorbing dust and odors.
  6. "Japanese grass". Paper base with fiberglass and sage ropes. It looks quite fragile, which can change color even in the same roll, which is normal for this species. When glued, they are durable and strong.
  7. Jacquard. The most user-friendly wallpaper that can be glued completely without joints thanks to different sizes standard rolls. The acrylic base allows you to straighten the canvas during operation without damaging it. Jacquard wallpaper resembles short-cut wool to the touch.

Conclusion

Textile fabric is capricious and demanding both in working with it and in further care. But the aristocratic beauty of such a finish deserves to be pasted over with textiles in a hall, bedroom or living room.

Textile wallpapers really have a luxurious look and add status and high cost. But unlike its competitors, this material requires special gluing skills. After all, their upper layer consists of fabric. Naturally, this fact affects the price of the material, since both silk and cotton can be used in its creation.

Attention! This wallpaper can be glued in virtually any room. The only exceptions will be bathrooms, kitchens, bath rooms, etc.

In the case of proper gluing and comfortable external microclimate conditions for the material, they can remain in excellent condition for about 10 years.

Aspects of

It's time to discuss the technical side of the matter. The following tools are useful for gluing:

Important! It is required to use exactly specialized view glue.

Surface work

Having prepared all the necessary working tools, it's time to start preparing the surface. Unlike other types of wallpaper, textile wallpapers require special conditions, more thorough and painstaking work both during preparation and during gluing. The walls should be perfectly flat. Even small cracks that are typical for "new buildings" will bring big trouble. In addition, the wall must be absolutely dry and clean. If you do not follow the above tips, the final appearance will be spoiled, the repair will have to be redone, and the wallpaper, in turn, will have to buy new ones. This instruction will not only help you to make repairs correctly and beautifully, but also save a lot of time and money.

First of all, you need to get rid of old paint, old coatings or other finishing material... If the wall was painted with enamel, it is roughened, and then washed off with water.

Based on the above information, the walls must be brought into a perfectly level state. Further, the surface must be putty and primed. After the work done, in order to avoid sagging of the textile wallpaper, it is necessary to cover the wall with one layer of emulsion paint.

Attention! It is necessary to monitor the color of the wall on which the wallpaper will be glued. They shouldn't be different. Otherwise, it is advisable to use a substrate. You need to glue it horizontally so as not to leave traces, otherwise this material will be conspicuous.

Correct gluing

We offer step-by-step instructions on how to properly glue textile wallpaper:

Attention! If the textile wallpapers selected for gluing do not have a seam, it is advisable to refuse them. Even the best specialists their business does not always take up such work.

Working with glue

The work begins with the wallpaper being laid face down.

After the work done, you need to give time for drying, you should not measure it yourself. All detailed information will be indicated on back side packaging with glue. In general, it will take about two days. The temperature in the room should correspond to that which was during gluing, namely 18-25 degrees. Naturally, drafts are unacceptable.

How to glue non-standard canvases can be seen in the following video:
