Tip # 1: varieties of climbing roses are divided into two types: actually climbing (ramblers) and semi-climbers (climbers). The lagoon belongs to the second option and is characterized by thick, erect shoots that are difficult to braid onto the arch. The best option would be to grow near direct supports, for which it will be convenient to tie them up. It is convenient to plant near the fence, along the walls, arbors.

Landing and care

  • acquisition of a healthy seedling;
  • selection and preparation of a landing site.

Post landing care includes:

  • watering;
  • loosening;
  • disease prevention;
  • pest control;
  • sanitary and forming cuttings;
  • fertilization.

Features of caring for Laguna roses

It is worth noting here that due to the declared size of an adult plant, the amount of water for irrigation, as well as fertilizers, must be appropriate.

Despite the indicated resistance of the rose to common diseases, one should not neglect the measures for their prevention: treatment with copper-containing preparations, inspect and remove parts of the plant with signs of damage, location on a support and garter shoots.

Separately, it is worth paying attention to pruning:

  • In autumn, sanitary is carried out, removing damaged parts of the plant. A slight shortening of the shoots of water shelter is allowed. Since flowering occurs not only on new arrows, therefore, they try to preserve the shoots of the past season. But three-year-old branches are best removed, since the intensity of flowering on them decreases. But if possible, it is desirable to transfer this procedure to the spring period, when it will already be clear which of the young shoots survived.
  • Spring pruning consists of removing non-overwintered parts, as well as the tops of the shoots, to provoke more growth and branching. On arrows growing sideways, 2-3 buds are left. During this period, after a thorough examination, three-year-old branches are removed if all the others have successfully endured the cold. Formation consists in trimming excess, sloppy growths.
  • In summer, cut off the faded parts of the shoots.

Tip # 2: if the pruning of three-year-old shoots was decided to be postponed to spring, then in the fall it is advisable to mark them by tying them with threads, ribbons, sticking a sticker. After the winter period, it will be visually more difficult to find the oldest branches.

Shelter for the winter for this variety of roses is mandatory (See also the article ⇒). Branches under shelter begin to bend down long before frost. It is hardly possible to bend them in cold weather without damage. Spruce branches, boards or other similar material must be laid between the lashes and the ground to avoid contact of the shoots with the ground.

This variety of roses is quite young, so the opinion of people who have personally appreciated the pros and cons of growing it should be added to the manufacturer's recommendations for planting and care.

  • Bushes grow quite large. Therefore, if you plan to plant several roses of this variety side by side, the distance between them must be left at least 1.5 m.
  • Before sheltering, the whips must be gradually bent to the ground, while cutting them less than 50 cm is not recommended. Therefore, there should be enough free space nearby for laying the shoots and their full shelter.
  • You can plant a rose along walls, fences, but it is better to avoid the north side, since a full-fledged daylight hours are required for the full development of the plant. Fairly frost-resistant plant, but for the winter time requires shelter.
  • The lashes of the rose are quite elastic and can independently support their weight, but in this case the bush can take up quite a lot of space. To give a more accurate shape, the shoots are heaped together and fixed with a support. If you plan to use it as a hedge or grow it along a wall, fence, the shoots of the bush are distributed in the form of a fan. At the same time, young shoots are attached with a greater frequency than more formed lashes.
  • A full-fledged plant, corresponding to the declared characteristics of the manufacturer of the variety, is obtained when grown on nutritious soil, with a favorable structure and sufficient watering. Expect a large increase from a rose, abundant flowering is not worth it if planted in soil that does not meet the requirements for growing roses. Although the flower of this variety is considered quite unpretentious.
  • When planting a rose along a fence, a wall, it is advisable to avoid a place where buildings form a nook. Since the ground part of the plant is quite powerful, dense, it needs a sufficient ventilation regime to avoid high humidity. Drafts are harmful to roses, but airing is a prevention of many diseases.
  • This variety has a beautiful color and no less pleasant aroma, so it is advisable not to hide it in the depths of the garden. The rose blooms in two waves, it turns out almost the entire season, so it can be grown as a single flower, but also easily combined with others when making garden compositions.
  • A good contrast is obtained when planted together with varieties New Down, Ilse Crown, Harlequin, Schwanensee. If you just want to add something else without creating strong transitions, then you can choose similar ones in color and size, for example, Shakespeare, Othello.

Also, many gardeners who grow the Laguna variety confirm that it is indeed quite resistant to many common diseases.

Alternative varieties

It has already been said above that, in terms of flowering and characteristics, the variety is very similar to Rosarium Uetersen, which also has increased disease resistance. Refers to semi-climbing roses with bright pink large flowers

If you need something fragrant, but do not want pink flowers, Golden Gate can be considered an alternative here. An unpretentious shrub, resistant to diseases, flowers are large with a bright fruity aroma.

Another variety related in size and immunity is Super Dorothy. But it blooms a little later.

Frequently asked questions about Laguna roses

Question number 1. If you plant a flower in the spring, will it bloom this year.

In summer, buds may form on the plant, but they are recommended to be cut off to give the plant more strength to grow shoots. You can leave one ovary in order to further evaluate the varietal affiliation. The most complete flowering, as a rule, occurs in the second year.

Question number 2. Are there any pests or diseases that you need to be most attentive to when growing this variety?

In general, a variety with a fairly high immunity. But if you rely on the reviews of people who directly grow this type of roses, you need to inspect the bush for aphids. Most likely, the considerable density of the plant has an effect. If signs of damage by aphids are found, the sections are cut off. With a more massive lesion, the plant is treated with insecticides.

Climbing rose "Laguna"
rose "Laguna" grows very quickly and well, shoots up to 2.5-3 meters high. Abundant flowering, bright crimson large roses "Laguna" not only enchant with their beauty, but also attract with a fragrant smell.

Spray roses have long been used to decorate the front garden or garden. But to add charm to buildings, and not only, climbing roses are used. One of the representatives of this genus of plants is the Laguna rose.

Why the lagoon

Climbing rose "Laguna" is one of the brightest representatives of climbing flowers. Grows up to 2-2.5 meters in height. The radius of the space occupied by the bush is 1 meter. Flower buds have a filled structure. The color scheme of this variety is represented by light shades of pink and red. "Laguna" is a fairly young variety, bred only in 2004. Flowering is quite abundant. Even in cold weather, the growing season continues. The plant is unpretentious to climatic conditions. The bush grows very quickly - many young shoots appear during the summer.

Interesting! Thanks to its endurance, abundant flowering and rapid growth, the Laguna rose is very popular among gardeners of various levels.

Basic landing rules

Due to its undemanding care, Laguna is often recommended to beginner gardeners. But in order for the flower to still start, it must be planted correctly, responsibly following several important steps: Choose the right seedling. If the seedling is of poor quality, then it will not be accepted or the plant will not grow and bloom. The seedling should not be damaged, the branches should be even. Leaves on the inside and outside should be green and without plaque. You should also pay attention to the root system. Since "Laguna" is a climbing rose, the root system should be wide, and each root should be thick and strong. Choose a place for planting in accordance with the characteristics of growth. Rosa lagoon prefers loose soil, which is rich in nutrients. You should not plant a bush in the same place where a rose used to grow. The area should not be open - partial shading is necessary. Under direct sunlight, the quality of the flower deteriorates. Properly prepare the seedling and the site before planting. The preparation of the seedling consists in the processing of its root system. First, the dry and longest root processes are removed. This should be done with a sharp tool so as not to tear the root system. After pruning, the seedling is placed in a bucket of clean water with the roots down. It is better to do this at night. A pit for planting is prepared several weeks in advance so that the soil is enriched with oxygen and nutrients evenly saturate the soil. The recess should not be wider than the root system of the bush, so you do not need to dig a whole trench. Regarding the depth, then you should not overdo it here either - it is calculated in accordance with the position of the lower four kidneys. Proper landing procedure. This is the main stage that needs to be considered more carefully and approached with all responsibility. Properly chosen place for planting, as well as properly planted, guarantee a positive result - the plant will take root and bloom in a year.

Step by step

Proper planting of climbing roses "Laguna" includes several stages: The prepared pit is watered in advance. The main thing is to wait until the moisture is completely absorbed - you should not plant a rose in the mud. Then fertilizers are applied. The best option would be ordinary manure - half of the bucket. The rose is installed in a recess and the root system is placed around the entire perimeter of the bottom. After that, the seedling is sprinkled with earth. The main thing is that the soil does not cover the lower buds and a part of the root looks out, which smoothly passes into the trunk. The bush itself is cut to 20-25 centimeters above the ground. In advance, a support is installed near the seedling. It can be, for example, a frame or a decorative staircase.

Important! If the rose is intended to decorate architectural objects, then it should be planted at a distance of half a meter from the intended support, so that there is room for the development of the root system.

How to grow properly

The main thing is not only to plant successfully, but to take care of the plant. And it, in turn, consists in:

Polive

Formative pruning

Fertilizing

Proper reproduction

In order for the plant to bloom and develop, special knowledge in botany is not required, but some care features should be taken into account. Rose loves thorough periodic watering in combination with top dressing with fertilizers. Nutrients can be purchased at any garden store. Pruning is done in September. In the process, the thinnest and weakest shoots are cut off. For the winter, the bush is cut as much as possible, and then insulated. When warming, the wattle fences are bent to the ground. Reproduction of the rose lagoon consists in green cuttings. This method of propagation ensures that the shoot takes root well. The principle of care for both young and older rose bushes is practically the same. The only difference is in tying - in young actively growing seedlings, the procedure for redistributing supports is more frequent than in already formed plants.

While watching the video, you will learn more about the climbing rose.

Climbing rose "Laguna" is a fairly young flower variety of its group, but is already very popular among gardeners. This is facilitated by the unpretentiousness of the flower to weather conditions and resistance to diseases.

Climbing roses are perennial vines up to 5 meters tall. They are used for landscape design of gardens and parks. They are good to use for entwining arbors, columns and hedges.

For the correct formation of rose shoots, it is recommended

The profusely flowering and fragrant climbing roses are in great demand. However, in areas with cold winters, they need to be covered, laid for the winter so that they do not freeze out. Therefore, in places with a harsh climate, it has its own characteristics, in particular, more labor-intensive care than for other species. In the south, climbing roses delight with their beauty all year round.

We will talk about the best varieties of roses marked with an ADR certificate - a quality mark in this article.

ADR certificate, what is it

This certificate was first awarded to roses in Germany in the middle of the 20th century. Allgemeine Deutsche Rosenneuheitenprüfung (ADR) - All-German certification of rose varieties.

Wilhelm Kordes - a well-known breeder - organized annual testing of up to 50 new varieties of roses, with the award of an ADR certificate. After testing the variety, only a few receive it.

New varieties are planted in the field at 11 laboratory stations located in different regions. For several years, roses survive with little or no care, resisting both diseases and pests. Then they are tested for winter hardiness, susceptibility to disease and decorative appearance.

The best varieties that receive the highest score receive a long-awaited certificate. This sign can be seen on rose seedlings when making a purchase.

About the variety of varieties of climbing roses tells this video:

Rose climbing pink "Laguna" (Laguna)

Climbing pink "Laguna" (Laguna). Climbing roses are used for vertical gardening - arches, arbors, pyramids, garlands, columns, pergolas, fences, gazebos; for decorating the walls of buildings, balconies. Particularly beautiful compositions created from groups of varieties of climbing roses, as well as climbing roses on high boles.

Climbing roses occupy one of the leading places in vertical gardening, go well with small architectural forms, are indispensable for creating decorative columns, pyramids, arches, trellises, green decoration of building walls, balconies, arbors.

The climbing group includes, first of all, real climbing, or the so-called climbing (Rambler), roses with long flexible creeping or arched-rising shoots (lashes) from 1.5 to 5 m or more in length. Their shoots are bright green and covered with thin curved thorns. The flowers are small (2-2.5 cm in diameter), double, semi-double or simple in various colors. The flowers are mostly weak-scented and collected in inflorescences. Real climbing roses bloom very profusely, mostly once, for 30-35 days in the first half of summer. Flowers are located along the entire length of overwintered shoots. The leaves are small, leathery and shiny. Most varieties are quite winter-hardy, wintering well under light dry cover.

Location: sunny and ventilated. Roses are photophilous plants, so it is best to plant them on the walls and supports of the southern and southwestern exposure. Preference should still be given to the southern exposure; good lighting helps the growth ripen, on which flowering will occur next year.

Landing: a strip of earth 50 - 60 cm wide is enough. They are planted in pre-prepared pits 50 x 50 cm in size. If the pits are dry, they must be watered and manure applied the day before planting - no less than half a bucket in each hole. In order for the bush to be strong and bloom profusely, after planting, the plant must be cut 15 - 20 cm from the soil level. Climbing roses used to decorate walls and other objects are planted at a distance of at least 45 cm from the landscaping object.

Care: from the second year after planting, climbing roses are content with little care, consisting in rare but plentiful watering, top dressing and pruning. Faded branches are pruned to encourage additional flowering. Roses are watered every 8-10 days. The soil around the plant is mulched with sawdust, humus, straw, grass. Cow dung, which is applied at planting, is used by plants for two years. In subsequent years, fertilizers are needed, especially organic ones. In addition to manure, you can feed roses with mineral and complex fertilizers: TMAU (peat-mineral-nitrogenous), flower mixture, etc. Four or five top dressings are required during the growing season.

Pruning: climbing roses need pruning. Its main goal is to form a crown, obtain abundant and long flowering, and maintain plants in a healthy state. In addition, pruning helps to achieve continuous shoot coverage of the object near which the plants are planted. When pruning, special attention is paid to the growth and development of vegetative shoots, since flowering in climbing roses occurs on the growth of the previous year.

With good care, roses grow long shoots over the summer, up to 2-3.5 m. They are covered for the winter. In the spring of the next year, only frozen and podpreshy shoots and the ends of the shoots are pruned to a strong outer bud. The shoots that survived after wintering are first spread on the ground so that strong replacement shoots develop at the base of the bush, ensuring the flowering of the bush for the next year. After the young shoots of replacement have reached a length of 50-70 cm, the old shoots, on which flowering should take place this year, are tied to supports. In the future, climbing roses are pruned, depending on how these roses bloom, once or twice. These groups of roses differ significantly in the nature of flowering and shoot formation.

The first form flowering branches on last year's shoots. They don't bloom again. In replacement of faded shoots, the so-called main (basal), these roses form from 3 to 10 recovery (replacement) shoots that will bloom for the next season. In this case, the basal shoots after flowering are cut out to the base, like in raspberries. Thus, bushes of single flowering climbing roses should consist of only 3-5 annual and 3-5 biennial flowering shoots.

It is important to remember that climbing roses bloom on overwintered shoots, which must be preserved to their full length, only the very tops with underdeveloped buds should be removed. Climbing roses, when cultivated on a high agricultural background, can form recovery shoots in excessive quantities. This thickens the bush very much, weakens flowering and makes it difficult to shelter for the winter. Therefore, for abundant flowering of climbing roses, they should be pruned and the number of shoots adjusted.

Greater attention requires pruning large-flowered varieties. The length of their lashes should be commensurate with the size of the bush. If the bush is very strong, as, for example, in the variety "Climing Gloria Day", it is necessary to leave long lashes, in shorter bushes they should be shorter. If the branches of this group of roses are cut very short, then instead of flowering shoots, only vegetative shoots will begin to grow. Often varieties of this group do not bloom. To achieve their flowering, you need to shorten the branches a little and tie them horizontally or obliquely.

Proper pruning and careful cultivar selection can ensure almost continuous blooming of roses in your garden throughout the growing season. Along with pruning, the garter of climbing roses also plays an important role, which should provide an inclined, horizontal or spiral arrangement of branches that prevents the growth of vegetative shoots and stimulates the development of flower ones.

Wintering: require shelter. It is important to remember one thing: between the roses and the shelter (film, roofing felt, etc.) there must be air space on top. Roses die not so much from frost, but from soaking and dampening during long winter thaws or in spring, when the covering material is compacted and does not allow air to pass through. It should be remembered that the preparation of roses for winter begins long before the onset of frost. Already at the end of August, it is necessary to stop watering and loosening the soil. At this time, it is no longer possible to feed roses with nitrogen, but it is necessary to apply potash supplements to strengthen the tissue of the shoots. Roses should be covered for the winter only with the onset of a steady drop in temperature to minus 5-6 ° C. Slight frosts not only do not harm roses, but even contribute to better ripening of shoots and harden plants. Premature shelter leads to the fact that the plants germinate and rot due to lack of air. Shelter is carried out in dry weather. Climbing roses are removed from the support, damaged or rotted shoots are cut out and the leaves are cleaned. After that, they twist, tie the whips with twine and pin them to the ground with metal or wooden hooks. It is advisable to put dry leaves or spruce branches under them. From above, the shoots are covered with any covering material: dry leaves, spruce branches, wooden boxes, etc.

Pests, diseases: aphids, spider mites, powdery mildew, bark cancer. Powdery mildew is caused by the fungus Sphaerotheca pannosa Lev. White spots appear on the leaves, which gradually grow. Powdery mildew develops rapidly in hot and humid weather, usually in late July - early August. Plant growth stops, flowering stops, and plant death may occur. As a preventive control measure, 2-fold spraying with Bordeaux liquid is recommended: on sleeping buds after removing the shelter and on growing (up to 20 cm) shoots.

Coniothirium (Coniothirium wersdorffiae Laub) - bark cancer, or “burn” of roses. Signs of the disease are detected when the shelter is removed in the spring. Initially, red-brown spots form on the bark of the shoots, which, growing, gradually turn black and can cover the entire shoot with a ring. The causative agent of the disease is inside the tissue. Ringed shoots should be immediately cut out with the capture of a healthy part of the shoot and burned. The fungus develops most intensively in the dark under the winter shelter of roses for the winter, especially at high humidity. Preventive measures are a decrease in the dose of nitrogen in the fall, fertilizing with potash fertilizers to strengthen shoot tissues, timely shelter and ventilation during winter thaws, timely removal of shelter in spring, pruning and destruction of affected shoots.

The idea of using shrubs and trees as support for climbing roses is not a human invention, but a way of life for these plants in the wild. On a large tree, climbing roses appear in all their lush splendor. Not all trees and shrubs are suitable for use as a support for climbing roses. Since the rose grows very quickly, the support plant must be large and tall enough. Do not use plants with intensively growing and located near the soil roots, which are in strong competition with rose roots. We can recommend: broom, shadberry, hornbeam, mountain ash, apple tree, pear, mountain pine, yew, larch.

Rosa Laguna is able to fill everything around with an amazing aroma. Its strong fruity aroma with hints of wild rose hips is remembered for a long time. One bush is enough to decorate the foreground of the garden or the area near the house.

Climbing rose Sweet Laguna is also able to grow very effectively on arches, along a fence, wall or arbor.

Description of the Laguna Climbing Variety

The climbing rose variety Laguna, introduced in 2004 by the German company Kordes, was obtained by selection. This technique allows you to breed the most resistant varieties to the effects of diseases and adverse climate.

The Laguna rose variety belongs to the semi-climber species. What is characterized by the presence of thick erect shoots, which are difficult to braid arches. The shoots themselves are straight, 1.8–2.5 m long, well and densely leafy. Foliage is dark green, glossy, medium in size.

The buds are pointed on top, large, containing up to 50 - 60 petals. The petals are painted with an intense crimson red color. The cup of the flower, when fully opened, can reach a diameter of 10 cm. The shape of the flower resembles the types of old varieties of roses. Brushes collect 7-8 flowers.

During intensive flowering, the bush is completely covered with flowers, buds, which cover the entire foliage. Flowering is repeated, abundant throughout the season.

The density and richness of the aroma of roses is its main advantage.

The only drawback is the many prickly spikes.

The Blue Lagoon Blue Rose is distinguished by its blooming racemes of medium-sized flowers, which are lilac at the beginning, and later become pale lilac. The bush reaches a height of 2.5 - 3 meters.

Park raspberry-red Laguna roses have very good resistance to diseases, rain, frost.

Features of caring for Laguna roses

Climbing rose Sweet Laguna, like other varieties of Laguna roses, is distinguished by a high level of disease resistance, wintering and general hardiness.

Plant care is quite simple and mainly consists of regular activities for:

  1. Watering first once every 5 days, then (the next year) once every 10 days in the morning or evening;
  2. Top dressing in the spring - nitrogen, in the summer - phosphorus and potash, in the fall - potash fertilizers;
  3. Sanitary pruning, for shape and faded flowers;
  4. The construction of a shelter for the winter on lashes previously removed from supports and laid on the ground with breathable material, then spruce branches, boards and roofing material.

Growing features:

  1. A variety for comfortable fruitful growth requires a shade at noon. This will ensure the safety of the petals from sunburn.
  2. Planting is allowed at a soil temperature of +10- +12 0 С.
  3. Neutral or slightly acidic fertile loams are the best soil for planting.
