Egor Druzhinin about the musical "Flying Ship", the philosophy of dance, the show "Dancing" and jokes about pension reform

Renowned choreographer and show mentor Yegor Druzhinin released a new musical "Flying Ship" with Anastasia Stotskaya and Vladimir Kisarov in the lead roles. Rethinking the plot of the popular cartoon of the same name, Egor created a new play that became a hit for both children and adults. Tricolor TV Magazine spoke to about the philosophy of dance, the details of creating a unique musical, narcissistic participants in the show "Dancing" and how to get to work from the show.

Egor, your musical premiered recently "Flying ship". How did you ensure that the story of Zabava, who cannot choose between two men, becomes interesting for children too? How did the script of the popular cartoon change?

In the script that we have written, the story has ceased to be just a fairy tale, it has become a parable that every viewer - both an adult and a child - can project onto himself, onto his life. The child first of all continues to see in this story a fairy tale, and an adult viewer - a true story. And the funny thing is that children don't look at the adult motives of our characters, but read them very well and react very well to them. The waterman is funny because he makes paradoxical conclusions, but at the same time he behaves like the father of those children who came to our performance. And this applies to all characters. In Zabava, they see almost a peer, such an eccentric girl, and her relationship with her father seems to them similar to their own relationship with their parents. In Ivan, they see a bully who is fond of this girl. When Zabava talks to Ivan, it is clear that this is not a conversation between adults, but between two young people who are getting carried away and gradually falling in love with each other. And so it is with every character in the musical. Even Polkan becomes interesting and sympathetic to children, because he is bold, he enjoys life, he has no problems and he is sure that sooner or later he will seize power in this kingdom with Fun.

What is special about the play for family viewing?

This is not just a performance that is interesting for both. What parent will take their child to a children's play and not be touched not so much by the play itself as by their child's reaction to it? But this is not at all the effect that I personally expect. I would like the adult spectator to take out something of his own from the performance, and the child - something of his own. Moreover, this relationship between a child and an adult as spectators is very important to me. A child does not understand all adult jokes, but for him an adult is always an authority, always someone whom the child tries to be like, and therefore the child turns on, for him, parental laughter is an inspirer in order to watch the performance more attentively, to follow more closely plot, also respond. Moreover, children often develop a paradoxical sense of humor; they will laugh not at the point of the joke, which they may not have understood, but, for example, at the rhythm and paradox of the joke.

For example?

We have a joke in the play about pension reform. Fun announces her task for suitors: she will marry only the one who builds a flying ship. Vanya asks her if she has a simpler task: to defeat the dragon or find the Firebird? To which Zabava says: “Can you make sure that in our kingdom-state the retirement age is reduced by 10 years?” And Vanya answers her: “Well, the ship is the ship!” And the children react to this joke in exactly the same way as adults, and not because they know what the point is, but because they understand that Zabava offered Ivan such a condition that he cannot fulfill, so they laugh along with the adults.

Tell me about the casting. Was it immediately approved Anastasia Stotskaya? Is there strong competition between musical artists in Russia, or can you still count the good ones on the fingers?

Among the artists of the musical, the audience is most familiar with the actress and singer Anastasia Stotskaya and the artist of the show "Big difference" on the STS Vladimir Kisarov. We did not have a goal to involve super-famous media artists in the musical, but the performance does not need this, there is no such need. I enjoy working with people I have known for a long time. And in this case, the fact that a large audience of viewers knows them in no way can affect me. If there is a coincidence, then it's nice, if not, it's okay. The fact is that the caste of musical artists in Russia is quite extensive, but at the same time quite closed, because these people, as a rule, wander from one performance to another, and we know that people who would work on television (this is the main mechanism that makes people famous) and who, along with this, would participate in musical performances, musicals, not so much. But real fans of the musical will surely recognize a huge number of familiar and beloved surnames in the program of our performance “The Flying Ship”.

And you can someone from the show "Dancing" take a job in a musical?

Dima Maslennikov, participant of "Dances" of two seasons: the second season and "Battle of the Seasons" is the choreographer of The Flying Ship.

Now everyone is dancing and opening dance schools. They offer a million approaches, techniques and so on. But what is the most important thing in dance?

You really said about the casting in "Dances" that many people are engaged in narcissism and this hinders the case.

The fact is that when future participants of the next season of the Dancing project come to us, they have completely different dance experience behind them, some more academic, some more street. But in any case, they came to Dances because they would like to realize their talents, and their talents are very diverse. Someone likes to dance hip-hop, someone likes twerk, and someone likes contemporary, modern, jazz, someone comes with classical training (I mean ballet), and someone comes with a folk dance school, someone has been dancing longer, and someone has started recently. It does not matter. In dancing, it is important that the person who wants to reach the final is original and able to express himself expressively and emotionally. But if we talk about my requirements for these participants, then first of all, of course, I want to see artists in them. I'm less concerned about how they hold themselves in front of the camera outside of rehearsals, how they give interviews, how they talk about dance. Of course, I would like that after they pass the crucible of the competition, the “Dancing” tests, they understand that dance is not only the ability to move, it is also a worldview.

Age limit: 12+. This is not an age limit, this is a recommendation due to some "adult" jokes. I went with my 5 year old daughter and she really enjoyed the show. There was nothing critical in my opinion.

Plot: Is there anyone who has not seen a wonderful musical cartoon of the same name? I think everyone knows! The main plot of the musical is not much different from the cartoon. But there are significant additions.

Tsar - presented as a marginal living in a barn with his beloved daughter Zabava. He transferred all his property, except for the crown, to Polkan for use, but even this does not save him ... There is not enough money even to put it on the phone. Almost every dialogue between Polkan and Tsar ends with:

Separately, I would like to talk about some actors:

Fun - Anastasia Stotskaya! She fit the role almost perfectly: appearance, fragility, irascibility and absurdity of character were in harmony with her role. The only thing I personally lacked was tenderness in her performance. I didn’t have enough lyrics from her side in the love line.

Vanya - chimney sweep - Dmitry Savin! You will not find his name on any poster, even in its extended version, which lists, in general, completely unknown and unmemorable actors. Apparently this is such a law and show business policy. But the man did an excellent job. Sincere performance of the role, the transfer of all feelings at the level of "I believe!", A voice penetrating to the depths of the soul and that "lyricism" and sincerity of feelings that Zabava lacked so much. Here, honestly, if Polkan got it, she would not be upset.

Polkan - Alexander Ragulin. The strongest voice and excellent performance of the "negative" hero. A truly memorable character, bright and very outrageous.

Tsar - Sergei Losev. The cutest grandpa ever! Causes extremely positive feelings.

Vodyanoy - Alexey Bobrov. Very comical, original and excellent transfer of the classic "receptionist" of the registry office, for which he received "Bream" in the performances!

From the program you can learn about the "second" composition of the presentation. In the official VKontakte group, you can find out who will play in the play, but only the day before. Of course, maybe it will be a shame for someone not to get on Anastasia Stotskaya - Zabava or Sergey Migitsko - Vodyanoy, but this will not change the charm of the performance anyway. Seeing, at the very beginning, what goods are sold at the fair, I began to worry in earnest: what to expect next from the musical? But, fortunately, everything went well.

The Tsar-sovereign also comes, whose treasury is completely, completely empty.

They start a conversation about how to fix the Tsar's financial situation. Polkan promises to solve all financial problems if the Tsar will marry his daughter, Princess Zabava, to him.

The tsar himself has long been trying to profitably sell Zabava in marriage.

He already wooed her princes, both Greek and Turkish. Everyone was rejected by Fun!

And she even called the American prince an obscene word!

Zabava does not want to get married by calculation.

And requires freedom in choosing a groom! By love!

Zabava meets a simple chimney sweep Ivan. And, as it should be in a fairy tale, he immediately falls in love with him.

But the Tsar-father is against their relationship. Why does he need a poor son-in-law?

He locks Fun in the palace. Or rather, what was left of it. To change my mind and come to my senses.

And Polkana himself is inciting how to achieve the favor of the princess.

Zabava comes up with a test for her fiancés: I will marry the one who builds a flying ship!

Overseas suitors drop out of the race immediately: the task seemed too difficult for them. Polkan googles where you can buy such a ship.

And only Ivan honestly goes to the construction of the ship!

Along the way, he comes across a swamp, in which Vodyanoy is spinning about his worthless fate.

Vodyanoy, seeing in Vanyusha your soul mate decides to help him no matter what.

And lends him her magic tools.

Meanwhile, Polkan steals the ship and wants to pass Zabava as his own.

Ivan manages to recapture the ship. But Polkan is cunning - he convinces Ivan that Zabava will not be happy with him anyway. What can he, a rogue chimney sweep, give her, the tsar's daughter?

He gives Polkan his ship. Let Zabava marry a rich man and be happy with him!

And so that Fun would not be sad about him, he comes to her to say goodbye. And he tells all sorts of horror stories about himself. And that the disease is incurable. And that he is married. Three at once...

In the end next year It will be 40 years since the animated film "The Flying Ship" directed by Garry Bardin with songs to music by Maxim Dunayevsky and poems by Yuri Entin was released. Years go by, but the audience's love for the cartoon is only getting stronger. More than one generation of boys and girls has grown up on it, who today, but already with their children, continue to watch this fairy tale - about true human values, about true love, devotion, about friendship and kindness.

Egor Druzhinin decided to transfer the fairy tale cartoon story adored by millions and favorite characters - chimney sweep Vanya and Princess Zabava, Tsar-father, Polkan, Vodyanoy and Babok-Yozhek - to the stage, from which, of course, songs from the fairy tale "Flying Ship" will sound , which have long become musical hits. The main role - Princess Zabava - will be played by Anastasia Stotskaya. And the premiere of the musical will take place next weekend - October 5, 6 and 7 - in the Izmailovo Concert Hall.

Egor Druzhinin, whom the general public met a long time ago as a talented choreographer, is recognized as the best director of musicals in Russia. In his production, he will reacquaint the audience with the unlucky and naive Tsar, his rebellious daughter Zabava, the heir to the throne who believes in true love, the treacherous Polkan, sincere Vanya, who wins over with simplicity and openness. If I come to a concert or festival events, I try to get to where the performers are preparing for the next number. And this time I was especially lucky - I was invited to a rehearsal of a real musical.

The musical "The Flying Ship" was a success in St. Petersburg, and now a performance is being prepared in Moscow. On October 5, 2018, the Moscow premiere is expected at the Izmailovo Concert Hall!

Vladimir Kisarov, already familiar to us, invited me to the rehearsal. In the film, he played an evil boss, this time he also got a characteristic role - Polkan.

Why do you always get the bastards? I ask him.

Apparently it's getting old. Before, I always played heroes-lovers ...

At this moment, the Tsar joined our dialogue, who specified that in The Flying Ship Polkan is also, in a sense, a hero-lover.

In fact, it is easiest to play a positive role. Everyone loves you and cares about you. But try to play a negative role, and even so as to please the audience!

The Flying Ship was one of my favorite childhood cartoons. I remember that as soon as it was shown on TV, we then discussed it for a long time with classmates and even sang songs from this cartoon. Most of all I was subdued then by Vodyanoy (singing in the voice of Anatoly Papanov) and such cheerful grandmothers-yoshkas, singing ditties, dancing in mortars, playing harmonies and waving brooms.

"Flying Ship" has evolved from a beloved children's cartoon to a massive hit musical! You probably remember the plot, I will not dwell on it.
