One of the most famous and revered representatives of the 12 apostles in the Orthodox religion is the apostle St. John the Theologian. Prayer to him remains the strongest to this day, for it was he who was called the beloved disciple of Jesus Christ and it was he who became the only witness to the mighty power of the Almighty.

Prayer to the Apostle John the Theologian received its power thanks to the saint himself. His earthly life was distinguished by high morality, spirituality and righteous intentions. After all, he devoted most of his life to people converted to paganism, admonishing them to accept the Christian faith and thus know the Great Lord, his deeds in the name of mankind.

He lived to a ripe old age and died a natural death (the only one of the twelve apostles), and spent his last days as a hermit: in complete abstinence and prayers. And when it was already very difficult for him to say prayers, he said only one thing: “Love one another. Keeping this commandment of God is enough to enter into eternal life.”

John is not only the greatest righteous man, he fair man and devoted friend. One of all the disciples of Christ who did not hide when he was crucified. He stood at the cross next to the Mother of God and accepted the pain of his Teacher as his own, feeling everything that Jesus experienced in those terrible moments. And his faith did not fall, it remained unshakable and just as strong.

This miraculous power is also confirmed by the fact that annually on May 8, fragrant myrrh appears from the tomb where the relics of the saint are kept, giving physical and mental healing to everyone who needs it.

The righteous are addressed with different prayers, but still one of the most common is the prayer to John the Theologian for family happiness. Among the 12 disciples of Christ, only the Evangelist John the Theologian managed to die a natural death. Based on the texts of the Holy Scriptures, he was a favorite disciple of Jesus and alone was present at His death. Christ also asked John the Theologian to become a new son for His mother. After the death of Christ, all the disciples went around the world and preached the Gospel, John was no exception. Today, prayers to the holy Apostle John the Theologian are heard everywhere!

About the apostle

Jesus called him as a disciple along with his brother James, they are also found in the Gospels as the Zebedee brothers (their father was Zebedee). Initially, they were followers of the Baptist, but then they followed Christ and witnessed many miracles:

There is a story in the Gospels how the mother of the brothers wanted to put them on the throne on the right and left hand from Jesus, which indicates their approach to the Teacher.

The Apostle John the Theologian, in addition to the Gospel, also owns several conciliar epistles, as well as the book of Revelation - a description of the last days of this world and the second coming of Christ. After the day of Pentecost, the apostles began to preach the Word of God everywhere, for which they were executed. John the theologian was instead sent into exile on the island of Patmos, where the prisoners worked in harsh conditions and hewed stones.

It was during his imprisonment on the island that the Evangelist John the Theologian began to receive visions in which the Lord revealed to him the further fate of the world - pestilence, death, disease, the coming of the Antichrist, and then the onset of the Millennial Kingdom. All this he set forth in the book of Revelation.

O great apostle, loud-voiced evangelist, most elegant theologian, seer of inexpressible revelations, virgin and beloved confidante of Christ John! Receive us, sinners, who come running under your strong intercession. Ask the All-Generous Humanity Christ our God, even before your eyes His Blood for us, His indecent servants, poured out, may He not remember our iniquities, but may He have mercy on us and do with us by His mercy: may He grant us health of soul and body, all prosperity and abundance, instructing us to turn it to the glory of Him, the Creator, Savior and our God, at the end of our temporal life from merciless torturers in air ordeals, let us deliver us, and so let us reach, with you leading and covering, Jerusalem on the mountain, You have seen his glory in revelation, now you enjoy endless joys. Oh great John! Save all the cities and countries of Christianity, this temple, those who serve and pray in it, from gladness, destruction, cowardly and flood, fire and sword, invasion of foreigners and internecine strife; deliver us from all misfortune and adversity, and with your prayers turn away the righteous wrath of God from us, and ask His mercy for us, that together with you we will be able to glorify the Most Holy Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

After that, a prayer for healing is read, according to which many miracles have already happened in the body of the Orthodox Church.

O great and all-praised apostle and evangelist John the Theologian, confidante of Christ, our warm intercessor and quick helper in sorrow! Beg the Lord God to grant us the remission of all our sins, since we have sinned from our youth in our whole life by deed, word, thought and all our feelings; at the end of our souls, help us sinners (names) to get rid of air ordeals and eternal torment, and with your merciful intercession we glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

The third is read a prayer for blessing in every deed.

O great and incomprehensible God! Behold, we offer you St. John for supplication, whom you have vouchsafed unspeakable revelations, accept intercession for us, grant us the fulfillment of our petitions to your glory, moreover, complete us with spiritual perfection for enjoyment, endless life in Your heavenly abodes! O Heavenly Father, who created the whole Lord, the Almighty King! Touch the grace of our hearts, yes, melting like wax, they will be shed before You and the mortal spiritual creature will be created in honor and glory of Yours, and Your Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

And they finish with the fourth prayer for the mercy of God and the intercession of the apostle before the Lord for the granting of spiritual purification to people.

O all-praised apostle and evangelist John the Theologian! Begged the Lord God to grant us (names), the abandonment of all our sins, we have sinned from our youth in our whole life in our deed, word, thought and all our feelings: at the end of our souls, help us, sinners (names), get rid of air ordeals and eternal torment, but by your gracious intercession we glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

If prayers are performed not in the temple, but at home, one should light a candle or lamp and read prayers in silence in front of the icon of the saint. It is best to do this in the morning, while the head is not covered by fuss. You should concentrate on the text and words and pass them through the soul, and not just read by heart.

Advice! It is also useful to read several chapters from the Gospel or the saint's epistles for instruction and reflection during the day. This can be done not only in holidays, but also on weekdays, at the desire of the heart or acute need.
