  • 08.03.2022

In our time, no one is protected from such a scourge as a fungus; everyone, without exception, can catch this disease. Perhaps he already lives in your body, but the body's defenses successfully suppress its development.

However, at the slightest failure in the immune system, harmful microorganisms can become activated and lead to unpleasant consequences. Clotrimazole ointment will help to quickly and painlessly say goodbye to the fungus. This effective tool should be kept in every first aid kit.

The composition of the ointment Clotrimazole

The composition of this drug includes the active substance clotrimazole, which has antifungal properties, as well as the following auxiliary components:

  • propylene glycol;
  • polyethylene oxide 400;
  • polyethylene oxide 1500;
  • methyl parahydroxybenzoate or methyl paraben.

The drug must be stored at a temperature of +5 to + 25 ° C, in a dry place out of the reach of children.

What ointment helps from: indications for use

This antifungal agent treats the skin and mucous membranes. The active substances of Clotrimazole penetrate the fungal cell and inhibit its development. After using the drug, the harmful cell accumulates a lot of hydrogen peroxide, which leads to its destruction.

This tool not only kills the fungus, but also helps to cope with pathogenic bacteria that adversely affect human health. The drug is used to treat various diseases of the legs, mucous membranes, skin caused by fungi:

  • thrush;
  • genital candidiasis complicated by trichomoniasis;
  • dermatomycosis;
  • paronychia;
  • dermatophytosis;
  • erythrasma, etc.

Also, this remedy is recommended for infection with a fungus that provokes microsporia and. Fungi are especially sensitive to the main active substance, and therefore are destroyed quickly enough. However, you should prepare for the fact that the treatment will take more than one week.

In addition, the ointment helps to cope with such a problem as skin pigmentation. Of course, Clotrimazole is primarily an antifungal agent. But despite this, he helped many people get rid of age spots. Also, the drug is effective for streptoderma and herpes.

Analogues of Clotrimazole ointment:

  • Candide;
  • Kanesten;
  • Amyclone;
  • Candibene.

How to use Clotrimazole ointment

The method of use for many diseases is the same - the ointment is applied 3-4 times a day in a small dose on dry and clean skin or mucous membranes. Rub the drug into the affected areas carefully and carefully. It is impossible to cover the treated areas with bandages.

Often, doctors advise using the ointment in combination with other drugs. For example, with thrush, only complex treatment will be truly effective - using ointment and vaginal suppositories.

The course of treatment with ointment can have a different duration, which depends on the form and stage of the disease. On average, you can focus on the fact that:

  • Treatment of mycoses lasts at least a month. You can not interrupt the course even in the absence of visible signs of the disease. Sometimes doctors advise continuing to use the ointment for another 2-3 weeks after treatment for preventive purposes.
  • Foot fungus must be treated for another two weeks after the symptoms have completely resolved.
  • Lichen is treated for three weeks or more.
  • Mild forms of thrush pass quite quickly - in 7-10 days.

How to use for thrush

Thrush is a common disease that affects both women and men. With candidiasis, it is recommended to use the ointment 2 times a day, treating the areas affected by the fungus with the agent.

Women should apply the ointment when the first symptoms appear, such as: itching and irritation in intimate places, a feeling of swelling, copious cheesy discharge, and burning when emptying the bladder.

With thrush, the vagina must be lubricated once a day with a thin layer of ointment, gently rubbing it in a circular motion. If the disease is chronic, then the drug should be applied not once, but three times a day. Approximate dosage - 5 gr. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor. During the application of the ointment, you can not have sex. In the presence of the disease, both partners are treated. Clotrimazole for men is applied twice a day to the head and foreskin of the penis.

From nail and foot fungus

Small doses of Clotrimazole inhibit the development of mycosis, and large doses completely destroy it. Before proceeding to the use of the medication, it is necessary to wash the affected area with laundry soap and a solution of baking soda, and then dry it thoroughly.

The ointment must be applied in a thin layer on the affected areas 3 times a day. Treated areas must not be covered. After 5 days, you can notice the first signs of healing, but you should not interrupt the treatment. As a rule, treatment lasts 4-8 weeks. To make sure of your full recovery, you must pass the appropriate tests.

For the treatment of lichen

Clotrimazole ointment is used to treat pityriasis (color, multi-colored) lichen. This disease is caused by yeast. These microorganisms are opportunistic pathogens, i.e. they can live in the body of a healthy person, but do not cause any disturbance. However, certain factors can provoke uncontrolled reproduction of fungi, which will lead to the development of colored lichen.

With this disease, the ointment is applied to the affected areas 2-3 times a day for 2-4 weeks.

Can it be used during pregnancy and lactation

There is no evidence that the ointment can cause disturbances in the embryonic development of the fetus, however, the appropriateness of using this drug should be determined by the doctor on an individual basis. It is impossible to treat mammary glands with Clotrimazole during breastfeeding and lactation.

Contraindications and side effects

The ointment can not be used with increased sensitivity of the patient to its components and in the first three months of pregnancy. It is not recommended to apply the ointment for wet inflammations - in this case, it is better to resort to a cream with the same name, since it has drying properties.

With caution, the ointment is taken in the second and third trimester, as well as for problems with the liver.

Usually the drug is well tolerated by patients, but in some cases, side effects in the form of itching and irritation are possible. Swelling, peeling, redness may appear on the skin. In this case, the doctor determines the advisability of further use of the drug.

If an allergy in the form of urticaria appears on the skin after using Clotrimazole, then treatment should be immediately interrupted.

The drug clotrimazole has various forms of release. Candles, solutions, creams, gels and ointments. The ointment form is the most popular.

Compound

Ointment contains clotrimazole, in the amount of 1 gram.

In addition to it, the composition includes excipients:

  • propylene glycol;
  • polyethylene oxide 400;
  • polyethylene oxide 1500;
  • methyl parahydroxybenzoate or methyl paraben.

Operating principles

is a substance from the group of imidazole derivatives. It acts on fungal organisms as a poison, disrupting their vital processes. Clotrimazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a structural component of fungal cells, which leads to their gradual destruction.

Since the ointment is poorly absorbed, the substance accumulates in the upper layers of the skin, which leads to an increase in the detrimental effect on pathogenic fungal organisms.

In sufficiently high doses, the drug also has an additional toxic effect on the cells of the fungus, increasing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in them, and accelerating the process of their destruction.

The drug is active against the following pathogenic fungi:

  • dermatophytes;
  • yeast fungi;
  • moldy fungi;
  • causative agents of multi-colored lichen and erythrasma.

It has a weak antimicrobial effect against some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Clotrimazole ointment is absorbed into the skin and mucous membranes. The substance is concentrated in the epidermis and in the keratin of the nails, almost not penetrating into the lower layers of the skin and practically not getting into the bloodstream.

Indications for use

The drug is used to treat various diseases of the legs, mucous membranes, skin caused by fungi:

  • thrush;
  • stomatitis;
  • genital candidiasis complicated by trichomoniasis;
  • superficial candidiasis;
  • dermatomycosis;
  • paronychia;
  • dermatophytosis;
  • erythrasma;
  • mycoses complicated by infection of pyogenic cocci.

Ways to use Clotrimazole

First of all, you need to prepare the affected area:

  • Clean it with soap and water and wipe dry;
  • Soap should be used soft, such as baby soap, because the alkaline environment reduces the effectiveness of the drug;
  • Skin with a disturbed acid-base balance has an increased risk of an allergic reaction to the ointment;
  • The towel, after wiping, must be disinfected, for example, boiled.

The medicine is applied 2-3 times a day, based on: a column of ointment, half a centimeter in size, on a skin area the size of a palm. It is also recommended to treat 1 cm of healthy skin around the affected area to prevent the spread of infection.

Treatment of thrush

Thrush (candidiasis) is a disease caused by pathogenic yeasts of the genus Candida. Usually occurs in the genital form, causes itching, more often in women and less often in men. sometimes it can affect other mucous membranes, such as the oral cavity. Clotrimazole is often prescribed for the treatment of thrush.

The use of Clotrimazole in female thrush:

  • It is necessary to take a supine position, bend your knees, and inject a sufficient amount of the drug into the affected organ;
  • For convenience, it is recommended to use a special applicator;
  • Then, you need to lie down for at least half an hour so that the product is evenly distributed and absorbed;
  • It is also necessary to process the external genitalia;
  • To avoid stains on clothes, you can use panty liners, without fragrances;
  • Since the ointment is poorly distributed over the surface of the skin, in the case of vaginal candidiasis, it is preferable to use other forms of the drug, such as cream or suppositories;
  • The duration of treatment is up to one month.

The use of Clotrimazole for male thrush (candidal balanoposthitis):

If one of the sexual partners has thrush, treatment should be carried out in both. Even if one of them does not have visible symptoms of the disease, preventive therapy is prescribed.

Treatment of nail fungus and feet

  • Apply the ointment not only to the foci of infection, but also to the skin of the finger;
  • Rub gently;
  • After applying the medicine in the area of the feet, you can wear socks made of natural fabric - cotton or linen;
  • In order to avoid a new infection, it is recommended to treat the inner surface of the shoe with Clotrimazole;
  • , special solutions of the drug are more suitable, because interact with the nail plates better than ointment;
  • Nails, in case of illness, need to be cut short, and the drug is better absorbed if they have a rough surface;
  • Usually, to cure this form of fungus, you need a course of Clotrimazole, lasting from 4 to 8 weeks + 1 week of prevention.

Lichen treatment

The drug is suitable for:

  • multi-colored (pityriasis) lichen;
  • ringworm.

How to apply:

Treatment of dermatitis

It can be caused by both fungal infections and other causes.

There are three forms of this disease in which clotrimazole is often prescribed:

  • seborrheic;
  • atopic;
  • diaper.

Application for seborrheic dermatitis

causes a fungus of the genus Malasesia, and treatment with antifungal agents is indicated here in any case.

Clotrimazole is used for seborrheic dermatitis on the face 3 times a day, on the head - 2 times a day.

For children, it is enough to apply the medicine once a day.

Use in atopic dermatitis

is an allergic disease, but can also be complicated by a fungus as a result of infection when scratching the skin.

Clotrimazole, in this case, is well suited, because. has additional antibacterial properties.

Usually prescribed in combination with other drugs.

For diaper dermatitis

Diaper dermatitis is an irritation of the skin in babies as a result of wearing diapers or constant swaddling, as the dense fabric does not breathe well and causes sweating.

May be complicated by candidiasis, as the fungus loves a moist, warm environment.

Usually the disease disappears after a week of applying the ointment. The ointment has low absorption, so its overdose is almost impossible.

It is desirable after the procedure that the baby has a glare for at least 10 minutes.

It is possible to prescribe additional drugs of different effects, depending on the specifics of the disease.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Clotrimazole is not used in the first trimester of pregnancy. During the second and third trimester, the use of the drug is possible, with the permission of the doctor.

During lactation, you can not apply the medicine directly to the nursing breast.

Application in childhood

The drug can be prescribed to children, even newborns. For example, with diaper fungal dermatitis.

But with some restrictions:

  • The skin of a child is involved in the process of breathing more actively than that of an adult, therefore it is not recommended to apply the medicine to large areas of the skin;
  • Large foci of infection are treated in parts, alternately, 2-3 times a day;
  • The ointment is suitable only for those types of fungal infection that are accompanied by drying of the skin.

For infected diaper rash in infants, Clotrimazole is used in the form of powders.

Excipients: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, synthetic cetaceum (ester cetyl wax), purified water.

Description

Homogeneous mass of white.

Pharmacotherapeutic group

Antifungal agents for external use. Derivatives of imidazole and triazole. The codeATX: [ D01 AC01] .

pharmachologic effect

Clotrimazole inhibits cell growth and division and, depending on the concentration, may have a fungistatic or fungicidal effect. Clotrimazole changes the permeability of the cell membrane by disrupting the synthesis of ergosterol and binding to the phospholipids of the fungal cell wall. Clinical studies have shown that topical treatment of infections with clotrimazole is as effective as other imidazole derivatives such as econazole and ketoconazole.

Clotrimazole inhibits the synthesis of proteins, fats, DNA and polysaccharides, damages cellular nucleic acids and accelerates the excretion of potassium. It can also inhibit the activity of oxidases and peroxidases and the biosynthesis of triglycerides and phospholipids in fungi. At higher concentrations, clotrimazole causes damage to cell membranes through mechanisms independent of sterol synthesis. Clotrimazole prevents the transformation of Candida blastospores albicans into an invasive mycelium. A change in the activity of the cell membrane leads to cell death and depends on the degree of exposure of the drug to microbial organisms.

Activity spectrum

Clotrimazole is characterized by a wide spectrum of activity. Clotrimazole inhibits the development and destroys dermatophytes (Epidermophyton floccosum, microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum), yeast (Candida spp., Cryptococcus neoformans) and dimorphic fungi (Coccidioides immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis). Also, clotrimazole is active against some gram-positive (Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Gardnerella vaginalis) and gram negative (Bacteroides) microorganisms.

In vitro clotrimazole inhibits reproduction Corynebacterium and gram-positive cocci (with the exception of enterococci) at concentrations of 0.5-10 µg/ml.

Clotrimazole has a wide spectrum of fungistatic and fungicidal activity in vitro. Its effect on the mycelium of dermatophytes (Trichophyton, microsporum, Epidermophyton) similar to the action of griseofulvin, and the effect on budding fungi (Candida) similar to the activity of polyenes (amphotericin B and nystatin).

Clotrimazole at a concentration below 1 μg / ml inhibits the development of most strains Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum and microsporum canis. Clotrimazole at a concentration of 3 μg / ml inhibits the development of most pathogens Pityrosporum orbiculare, Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida species, including Candida albicans, some strains Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as some strains Proteus vulgaris and Salmonella. Clotrimazole works against Sporothrix, Cryptococcus, Cefalosporium and Fusarium. Concentrations above 100 µg/ml are effective against Trichomonas vaginalis.

Mushrooms resistant to clotrimazole are extremely rare; there is data only for individual strains Candida guilliermondii.

No development of resistance has been reported in clotrimazole-sensitive fungi after passage. Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. There are no cases of development of resistance to clotrimazole in strains FROM.albicans, resistant to polyene antibiotics due to chemical mutation.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically to the skin, clotrimazole is absorbed by the epidermis. Higher concentrations of clotrimazole are found in the horny and spinous layers of the epidermis, as well as in the papillary and reticular layers of the dermis, however, clotrimazole enters the systemic circulation in small quantities.

Clotrimazole is metabolized in the liver to inactive substances excreted from the body through the kidneys and intestines.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The main substance inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, has a fungistatic effect and fungicidal activity, and leads to the death of fungi. Due to the inhibition of the synthesis of ergosterol, the component binds to the phospholipids of the fungal cell membrane, changing its permeability. In high concentrations, clotrimazole damages fungal cells by lysis without suppressing the synthesis of ergosterol, prevents the formation of proteins, fats and polysaccharides of fungi, destroys their nucleic acids and increases the excretion of potassium.

The drug has a broad effect on dermatophytes, yeasts, dimorphic and mold fungi, protozoa, plus it destroys gram-positive bacteria. Fungistatic activity is manifested in relation to the mycelium of dermatophytes, budding fungi from the genus Candida. The component is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation when applied to intact and non-inflamed skin. The concentration in blood serum is negligible, with intravaginal application, absorption is 3-10% of the dose. The drug breaks down in the liver to inactive metabolites, excreted by the kidneys and intestines.

From what ointment Clotrimazole

With external use of ointment, gel, cream and solution, according to the instructions, the following indications are distinguished:

  • fungal diseases caused by dermatophytes, yeast-like fungi, mold pathogens sensitive to the active ingredient;
