Who is this Chinese Pilot Jao Da, whose name is the presentable Moscow club-cafe named after? It turns out that Zhao Da is not a fictional character at all, but really a Chinese pilot. He was born in 1915 on October 10 in the Chinese village of Laian Qixia. His father Zhao Se was a shoemaker. Cranes often flew over their village, and since childhood, little Zhao Da began to rave about the sky. He built his first flying machine from bamboo at the age of 14. Having jumped from the wind tower on his flywing, Zhao Da flew only a few tens of meters. The father did not resist his son’s hobbies and sent him to flight school. Having trained as a pilot, Zhao Da fought with the 32nd Brigade of the US Air Force on a Curtiss-P40 fighter. After the end of the war, Zhao Da bought his battered plane for a nominal fee, repaired it and, having painted the silhouette of a winged cat on the fuselage, set off to travel the world. He flew around the planet many times in various directions and even participated in expeditions to the North Pole. It is not known where he spent more time: in the sky or on the ground.

Zhao Da made his living by delivering various cargoes to mountainous and inaccessible areas. They say that once a leader from the African tribe Ushe turned to Jao Da with an unusual request. There had been no rain over their settlement for a long time, and the leader wanted to go higher and ask for rain from there. They flew across the sky for a long time, and the next day it started to rain.

There were no state borders for Zhao Da, since he flew at low altitude, inaccessible to radars and always remained undetected.

Once, in a French suburb, Jao Da met a girl, Sophie, who asked to take her on a plane. They fell in love, but the pilot cannot live without the sky. Zhao Da flew away, but his Sophie remained. A Chinese pilot arrived in this village only a few years later. There he was met not only by Sophia, but also by the little boy Bernard, the son of Zhao Da. They all lived together for some time, but the sky beckoned and Zhao Da flew away again. Sofia understood and loved him, and therefore did not try to keep him.

But all flights always end in landings. In 1995, a pilot landed his plane in the small Russian village of Kuznechikha, in the Kalinin region. There he decided to stay, and Bernard came to visit. Over time, his son decided to get into the restaurant business and opened several bars and restaurants around the world. Meetings with his father prompted Bernard to open an art club in Moscow near the China City metro station with an intriguing name: “Chinese pilot Zhao Da.” And recently, a similar establishment with the same name opened in Yaroslavl. Now posters “Chinese pilot Zhao Da” adorn Yaroslavl.

Arriving to visit, we met the general director of the club Sergei Galyas and chef Natalia Ignatkina , who gave us a detailed tour of the establishment.

Sergey, tell me how this place was born? Why is it called "Chinese Pilot Zhao Da"?

S.G.: It's a long story. The place appeared 19 years ago - we had a birthday in August. It is without a doubt iconic. 19 years ago, our founders - Vladimir Zhao, Irina and Alexey Paperny (from the cult group Paperny TAM - editor's note) met and decided to open a music club. And why such a name is clear from the surname of our founder, who had high-ranking military leaders associated with China in his family. It is noteworthy that the name is Chinese, but the cuisine is European. But if you need Chinese cuisine, you can go to the Chinatown cafe, which also belongs to us and is located exactly above us. We are, first of all, a night music club where you can eat delicious food and listen to quality music.

The average life of a restaurant is two years. How do you manage to exist successfully for so long?

S.G.: First of all, our club has a soul. We also react sensitively to the market - our menu is constantly changing, innovations are introduced into the interior, but at the same time we maintain the basic idea for which our guests love us. And guests are our main wealth. Those who jumped at our discos 19 years ago today come to us for children's parties with their children.

Which famous people have performed for you over the past 19 years?

S.G.: Dibrov gave his only concert in Moscow here, Kusturica, Manu Chao came here, Zemfira, Psoy Korolenko, Pelageya, the Leningrad group began their careers here. Zhao Da was the launching pad for so many celestials of the current stage.

Now let's talk about food - how do you form the main backbone of the menu?

N.I.: Based on demand - for example, we have had Japanese meat on our menu for 19 years. We tried several times to remove it, but the guests do not allow us to do this. It's the same story with salad with deep-fried cheese. All generations have their own taste preferences. It's no secret that now everyone is crazy about burgers, and accordingly, we have burgers. We also have our signature feature - huge Breton pancakes, they are now in our top, because... they are large, filling and very tasty.

Question for the chef: if you came here as a guest, what three dishes would you order?

N.I.: I would take arugula with shrimp, Breton pancake with shawarma and salad with deep-fried cheese. We also have very tasty meat in a frying pan. We also have food finger snacks that are very convenient to eat at the bar.

Who washes the dishes at the chef's house?

N.I.: My husband washes the dishes, but my daughter does most of the cooking - I need to rest sometime (laughs).
