This monument was built in honor of George Washington. It is 555 feet tall and provides a panoramic view of Washington, D.C., via elevator. It is called “The Pencil”, because it is one of the tallest stone construction in the world and in the USA. Located south of the White House.

This is the Jefferson Memorial built in honour of Thomas Jefferson. Inside is a 19 – foot statue of Thomas Jefferson standing on a 6 – foot pedestal. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. He was the first President of the United States.

Lincoln Memorial

This is the Lincoln memorial, built in honour of Abraham Lincoln. It was built in the style of classic Greek temple. It has 36 columns. Each column represents the state in the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death. But the dominant feature of the building is the realistic figure of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States in 1861.

Washington is the capital city of the United States It does not belong to a state, you know. It’s a city and district – the District of Columbia. Washington, D.C. is located on the east coast. It was chosen by George Washington as the permanent site for the nation’s capital in 1800. It was he, who named the land D.C. after Christopher Columbus. And this city was named after the first American President.

Washington D.C. is one of the only cities in the world that was designed before it was built. It is well planned. Washington is one of the most beautiful and unusual cities in the USA. It has little industry, and only one million people. One reason Washington looks different from other cities is that no building in the city may be more than 40 meters tall. There are no skyscrapers, because they would hide the city’s many monuments from view.

The heart of the city is the capitol George Washigton decided to put the Capitol building on a hill at one end of the city, and the president’s house on a hill at the other end. Nowadays the Capitol is the best starting point for sightseeing about the city. It is the tallest building in Washington, D.C., and the most famous building in the USA, because this is where laws are made and the Congress meets. The Capitol is surrounded by a beautiful garden with many trees and flowers.

Deemed as one of the most stately buildings in the world, it is constructed of Massachusetts marble and Virginia sandstone, with a cast iron dome to complete the building.

Completed in 1865 by Constantino Brumidi, the Frescoe covers the 4, 664 square feet inside the dome of the Capitol Building.



The president meets members from the Office of Homeland Security and other White House staff in the Oval Office.

The State Dining Room is currently used for formal dining.


Modeled on the Greek Parthenon, the Lincoln Memorial was designed by Henry Bacon and completed in 1922.

Its 36 columns represent the number of states in the Union at the time of Lincoln’s assassination in 1865.


In the center hall of the structure sits a 19-foot tall statue of Abraham Lincoln.

The memorial is located at the west end of the Mall on the banks of the Potomac River and is the site of many historical events, such as the Dr. Martin Luther King “I have a dream” speech.
